Tibetan Kitchen is a cozy, welcoming, vegetarian friendly Tibetan Restaurant. We arrived around six o'clock and were promptly welcomed and seated. There are six or so tables in the space. The service was excellent and we were impressed by all of the vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. The vegetable momos were packed with flavor and served with a sauce. The iced chai was spicy and delicious, just perfect. Our waitress was kind and attentive. The whole experience reminded me of being welcomed into someone's home. I will definitely return to Tibetan Kitchen the next time I am in New Haven.

The food and service were exceptional. Having food allergies, it is often difficult to eat out. So many great vegan options that allowed us to eat without dairy or concerns.

I will be back next time I'm through this area. The service is so personal. Lots of attention to detail. Everything was tasty and full of flavor, even a soup that I expected to be quite mild. When we walked in and saw how busy the place was, we had confidence that we had found a great place. Lovely atmosphere.

The food was PHENOMENAL. We got Tingmo (Tibetan steamed bun) which was like a Chinese ManTou, Tsel Momo (pan fried veggie and cheese dumplings), Tsel Thenthuk (Tibetan noodle soup) -- the bowl of soup was HUGE, Veg Phing (veggie soup with rice) and the portions were all worth the price! The dishes were all so flavorful and delicious. We were completely satisfied. The service was also so great -- the staff were friendly and the food came out quickly! It's a small restaurant so if you have a large group, I would do takeout, but for small groups/date night, this restaurant is absolutely perfect. The decorations are so cute and the place is cozy :)

Loved the Tibetan Kitchen! Service was lovely and the food delicious. Cozy, comfortable and clean ambiance. Veg and non-veg options. Definitely recommended.

Delicious and unique food in a nice atmosphere. Servers were friendly and helpful. The portions are large and perfectly seasoned. I can't wait to try more!

    Cold appetizer

Some of the dishes here were excellent. I loved the butter salted tea to start, which was one of the specials listed on the chalk board. It had a subtle flavor that I'm sure would be hard to replicate if you don't have practice. The appetizers weren't the best part of the meal but were a nice addition. I didn't taste much sesame in the cold noodles, and the other appetizer, made with peas, tofu and potato was mostly potato. The dumplings were perfectly fried (lightly) and juicy, much better than your average fare. I ordered the beef noodle soup, which was very good, aromatic with a combination of shredded beef with ground beef on top. My dish was very hot and took a while to cool down, so I was falling behind the rest of my party in finishing my meal... Something to bear in mind if you choose this option. The waiter was attentive and made sure to ask if there was anything else we wanted to order before the kitchen closed for two hours. We went on a Saturday afternoon and didn't realize how small the dining room is. The place fills up quickly, so you might have to wait to be seated. The dining room is cozy with wooden tables, and the place is decorated modestly in Tibetan style. I would recommend going here and taking your time over a hot meal while enjoying the ambiance.

You can't see the noodles hiding under the soup, but it was very substantial and filling.

A small little restaurant on the quieter side of Chapel St. Feel free to spin the prayer wheels (clockwise) as you walk in! I came here with two other friends on a Tuesday morning, and it was really cozy. We had the whole place to ourselves and we ended up all ordering the same thing in different spice levels. 3 is comfortable, 4 is enjoyable, and 5 is a bit much unless your tastebuds have already died. There is also extra chili on the table so you can add more to your liking. Flavor was great, no complaints about service. Will be bringing more friends over.

Amazing food, the vegan and vegetarian options are labeled (!), the service is top notch. The vegans in our party had the chili tofu (like a hot sweet chili flavor) and the potatoes and spinach with flatbread. Both were delicious, as was the appetizer (spicy cold noodles). Those noodles were my favorite - high recommend! The omnivores in my group had beef dumplings, a noodle dish, and another entree - they loved all three. Come here and try everything! -at least that's my plan. Thanks for such an accessible menu!!

Himalaya, a Himalayan/Nepalese restaurant in Berlin, has been on my radar for a while because of…read moreits high overall Yelp rating. We recently moved closer and I decided to try it for a work at home lunch day. I did no research before going. It turns out that Himalaya does not presently have a dine in option, which is fine because I live nearby. I walked in to look at the menu and order. I'm not sure if the person who helped me was having an off day, or maybe he's used to regular customers ordering ahead and didn't like having to change his routine, but he was not particularly welcoming. No smile or friendly greeting. I'm fairly sure that he rolled his eyes when I went to pay with cash. I don't know who this person was relative to the restaurant, but it didn't set a good tone. I ordered from the Lunch Specials. I ordered the Chicken Saag special which came with Basmati Rice and Naan. I don't remember the exact cost, but I remember being surprised at how inexpensive it was. Everything on the Lunch Special menu was inexpensive relative to places I frequent. I was told that it would be 10 minutes. I returned around 15 minutes later and my order was ready. All of the food was at least OK to pretty good, but didn't really pop for me. I'm much more familiar with Indian restaurants than I am with Nepalese and Himalayan restaurants, but some of the dishes share names. I'm not sure if there are seasoning and other variations in Indian versus Nepalese cuisine, or if any variations are more based upon the chefs cooking the meals. In any event, Himalaya's version of both the Saag and the chicken in the Saag were different than I'm used to. I prefer the way the Saag is seasoned in my favorite Indian places in CT. I feel like the chicken in most Indian restaurants is kebab style and is cooked in a tandoori oven. Himalaya's chicken had a rougher texture and seemed like it was perhaps roasted. It was pretty good, but probably my least favorite Saag dish I've had in a while. The Basmati rice was fine. The naan was OK. The texture and flavor didn't measure up to my favorite Indian restaurants. I have multiple nearby Indian restaurants that I prefer to Himalaya. In light of that and my less than positive service experience, I'm unlikely to return to Himalaya. However, given Himalaya's strong overall rating, it's clear that others have had good experiences and maybe you'll have better luck than I did. And as I said, the lunch specials are a good value. 3 Stars

My only regret and disappointment is that it's been open for seven years and this is the first time I've discovered this wonderful find in the heart of New Haven. I have been looking to come to this place for sometime, but you do need to do reservations for a Saturday night. I didn't want two weeks earlier through Resy. Full disclosure, I get a credit from American Express as part of their partnership with Resy and this is one of the locations that you can obtain that benefit from. We arrived shortly before our reservation time and waited in line as two other groups were turned away as they were all booked up for dinner until much later in the evening. Once inside, I understood as it is not a large dining area. The motive is very Indian forward with images of transportation themes from India, including bicycles on the ceiling above the tables. To start with, the drinks were some of the most flavorful options I have had in some time all with a very traditional Indian twist. I am not big on coconut or tequila, but my wife loved her coconut tequila drink. I thought the Manhattan was a big hit as the date balanced out the flavors perfectly. Even the cold drink, my daughter got reminded me of getting the same back in India. I personally was not a big fan of the mango lassi. My son got but he loved it. It was a bit thick for my taste. With regards to the food options, this reminded me of being in Manak Chok in India. For those that don't know, that is an area in western India known for its street foods and late night dining. The smells and tastes of the food would fit right in there. We started with the Dahi puri. This was a big hit for the entire family. You get six items in the order and this is a great place to start, especially if you like the balance of the street food. The Chaat Dog was also a big hit. We got the option with Lamb covered in chaat. The role was toasted perfectly and the balance of the flavors really hit well. The entire family enjoyed the chicken stuffed naan with the side of the sauce. I will admit it had a bit of a kick, so be careful for those who are not looking for spice forward foods. I have always been a big fan of Chole Bhature (chick peas and puffed whole wheat fried bread). The one here was nearly perfect as served. I was saying to my wife, that it could only be made better with a little bit of raw onion on top. As luck would have it, the waitress overheard my comment and next thing you know, we had a side of chopped onions and lime, the perfect topping for this dish. With regards to the biryani, it was flavorful, though it has never been my favorite thing. It comes with a side of raita as well. Again, that is not something I really enjoy. However, all three of my family enjoyed this immensely, and the serving was so generous, we had a decent amount of leftovers after our meal. We finished the night with some mango kulfi. It was too large scoops as you can see by the picture. This was the perfect sharing dessert for the four of us to conclude our meal. As noted above, our waitress was super attentive and very quick to bring out the dishes and drinks throughout our dinner. I will note that the price point is also great for New Haven restaurants as the complete meal with drinks for all and a dessert came out to $120 before tax and tip. This is definitely a place I would strongly recommend for any in the area. If you're not close by, book a reservation before you come down so it's not to miss out on this amazing experience. It is definitely worth a try if you want a traditional Indian street food experience. They do also have options like more traditional Punjabi style restaurants on the menu, but we focused more so on the street food options during our first visit. I will update further as I experience this place again which I expect to happen in the very near future.
