My daughter and I came in hungry today and didn't leave disappointed that's for sure. We tried the beef Momo, gangbu lungsha with beef and Tinthuk with pork. The flavors were all incredible. Seriously so on point and I had never tried the Gangbu which was a spicy, garlicky, amazing dish. I asked for extra spicy and then kind of wimped out, so what the chef prepared was honestly perfect. Went back after a while. Their hours have changed a bit since the pandemic but I think they're open on a more consistent basis now. We got food for takeout. They were packed on a Monday night. I got my favorite the beef shapta which is a sautéed beef dish that has onions and peppers in it. I got the Neumta Bale which is a fritter like bread that goes really well with the shapta. I'm sure you could also eat it with rice. My wife got her favorite the chicken Thukpa Nuema which is a noodle dish. The lady who has been there since the first time we went there was present. The food was horrible. We ordered the sweet momos and they were super tiny and expensive for what it was. My friend got a tea which didn't taste good. My mango lassi was lacking. The service wasn't that great. The person who took our order was racist. The ambiance was lacking. I would never go back there. I don't know why this place has so many five-star reviews. I paid $21 for a tea, a mango lassi, and four pieces of tiny momos. Not worth it! We ended up going to Arigato next door, and it was so much better. EDIT: the manager, I presumed, apologized over PM and then also mansplained the price of the momos. also claimed not to see any racist behavior in the security camera. i don't know how you can prove racism existed in our interaction through a security camera, but okay. Passing through Amherst on our way back to CT, my mom & I settled on trying something new, Tibetan food. We checked reviews and other than being short staffed, the reviews were great. Raves about the food flavor was our deciding factor. It'd been a rainy & chilly day watching my son's college football gane & we needed warmth, sustenance & time wasn't an issue; until it was. We arrived & were sitted at the exact same time as a couple who had the other of the two servers available. Somehow, under her care, they ordered, ate, paid & left before we received our appetizer, Dolma Mono, dumplings with Tibetan sweet root. Maybe the reviews gave us high expectations but the dumplings arrived room temperature, thick skinned & no sauce. The sweet root was interesting but not something I'd order again. I ordered Mothuk soup with chicken. The broth was tasty and gave me the warmth I was looking for. There wasn't much else to the soup; some baby spinach & chicken wrapped in the same thick skin as the dumplings. No pop of flavor for me but t my mom faired better. She ordered Shamday with chicken, served with greens & white rice. It truly was flavorful. Fried bread also hit the spot. Overall, the inconsistency bothered me. Table to table the service, timing & taste was all over the place. I'd try another place on the strip before going to Momo again. read more

We visited this restaurant for dinner, while we were visiting some friends who live in the area. We ordered a variety of dishes, including lamb and vegetable momos, a spicy stir fried lamb dish, a tofu dish, and soup. Our friend who is a vegetarian had never tried Tibetan food before, and he absolutely loved it! There are a lot of vegetarian dishes on the menu. Momo brings the heat. We started with sliced beef tongue. I don't know what I was expecting, but I was floored with how good this appetizer was. It tasted like schezuanese food, super savory with garlic, green onion, and both traditional and numbing spice. The momos themselves were great, especially the lamb momos which had just a little bit of broth in them, almost like xiao long bao. We also had the Momo family soup, which was a little bland, pretty much just an egg drop soup with some chicken and noodles. My wife and I are locals and we like to try unique and interesting foods. We went to Momo with that intention. The Service: although a very nice person, the server was not very attentive. She had two tables to serve and it took 25 minutes for our food to arrive. I think they do a fair amount of take out but during the time we were there, no one came in our out to pickup food. The Food: we had some momos and another meat pie sort of thing for starters and a stir fry dish with egg and peppers and vegetables. The starters were very bland and not very flavorful. Perhaps the restaurant "Americanizes" their food and skips some of the spicing that you would find in Tibet, in fear of over doing it. The egg and vegetable stir fry was fresh and well prepared but again, bland and uninteresting. We had to give it a chance but I don't think we will be back. The restaurant was clean and tastefully decorated and we think it has potential. There is a very eclectic mix of people in the Amherst area and I think Momo's ought to step up their game. read more

We were here for momos, but ended up trying a variety of special dishes. - Bhaley (puffy fried pastry, with vegetables filling): crispy, fresh out of the pan, careful with the steam! - Nyam Zumb Katsa (Momos with chili sauce): we got lamb momos (dumplings). Reminds me of Szechuan Chinese food. The homemade chili sauce was impressive. - Yertsa Lhosha (Pepper stir-fried lamb), Shasta (red sauce stir-fried beef) : these two dishes are quite alike. To be honest not too impressed. Comes with really delicious steamed bread and fried dough. Try one of them with a meat of your choice if you are a meat lover. Good for group. My first and last visit. A friend and I were very excited to try this place out. We ordered 3 dishes, 2 of which were appetizers. We were the only table in the restaurant to sit 1hr 45 minutes. Once the dishes came out, we were told they were "preparing the sauce and sides" that come with it. We then waited an additional 10 minutes and no sauces or sides appeared. We ate the momos cold without sauce. Once the plates were clean, the server asked "do you not want the sauces now?" They dropped the check, we're thinking maybe they'll take a little off for the inconvenience ? No. $45 for half done food. I really can't make this up. Yup, based on my one visit, I would make another visit. The menu isn't all 100% Tibetan food. About half is Tibetan food and the other half is Chinese food. I'm not "up to speed" on my Tibetan food knowledge so the server was kind enough to talk me through the menu. I ordered the shapta dish which is a stir fry combination of meat, bell peppers, onions, and chili peppers. That's all. It's a pretty simple dish. I've had Tibetan food in the past and this was pretty much in line with what I've had before. Tibetan food reminds me a lot of Sichuan Chinese food, but that's probably not surprising because both provinces are located next to each another. My shasta dish had lots of chicken in it (almost too much chicken) and was reasonably priced. In fact, all the menu items were reasonably priced. Ordered the Shamday. Never have I had such bland food. The broth and meat seemed to have been seasoned with salt alone. And such small portions. There were a grand total of three small pieces of potato. The "side green mustard" of the menu turned out to be celery(! I guess there no cheaper green available) cooked again seemingly with only salt. For an entree that cost 15 dollars I was hoping to get more than bland beef with plain white rice. This is my favorite restaurant experience in a while. In addition to the food being amazing, it is unique and interesting. We were a bit hesitant because it didn't seem bustling, but totally worth it! The pork momo with the supinmandu(hot sauce) was fresh and I was impressed with the soup in the thin dumpling skin because it was much less messy than other soup dumplings I've had. Phingsha was hearty and stew-like. It would be so nice a cool/cold day. Recommended with a few drops of hoisin sauce with each bite. Tinthuk is a light beef broth that reminds me of the Korean ox-bone soup, but more beefy. I know others have recommended this on here and they were onto something! The po-cha was a little too buttery for my liking, but the sweet tea was exactly like milk-tea. Overall, it was a delicious hearty meal. read more

My wife and I arrived at noon on a Friday and no one else was in the restaurant. I'm not sure why no one else was there! The meal was wonderful. We shared the traditional pork momo (dumplings) in a sauce. They were great, but the second dish really blew us away--a chicken and tofu dish (Jato). The sauce was amazing. Was in town for college visit June 28, 2022. Decided to try cuisine we've never tried. This place looked interesting and had some good reviews (and some not so good). Wanted to see for ourselves. Food was delicious but small portions for the price they charge. Spent about $80 for 2 fried bread orders and 2 entrees (and which was smaller portions) and a dumpling dish. Later that night and all next day, everyone in my party had bouts of diarrhea. My husband had it the worst. It lasted all day for him. Trying to figure out what we all ate that may have caused it. The only meal we shared our foods was at this place. I would not recommend this place. I don't know if this is just an isolated incident or not. It wasn't busy (we were the only customer although they had a few phone orders during our time there). Be aware of you decide to try this place. read more

Was especially impressed by the sautéed beef with green onions - I tend to avoid beef because of the tough texture but this beef was cooked perfectly and just melts in your mouth! Decided to give this place a try and was pleasantly surprised. Tried the stir fried noodles with chicken while my husband tried a dish I can't recalling but was very tasty as well. The server was very friendly and is native to Tibet so we relied on her recommendations including the Tingmo. The music was light and pleasing to the ear as we had our lunch date. We often try different foods as we travel to different parts of the world and it was good to find this fresh tasting cuisine not too far from where we live. She is a vegetarian so it takes a bit of extra work to find a place to eat, after all no one wants to eat just salads. Momo seemed to be a great option. We ordered an appetizer that was sweet rice with raisins and a root, honestly I wanted to take a bowl home for breakfast!! I ordered the cold, spicy noodles and my daughter had veggies with tofu. I was surprised her tofu was soft and not firm but it was delicious. She kept telling me she loved the fluffiness of her tofu. My noodles were just wonderful on a warm night, they were the perfect balance of textures and heat. My daughter has a huge sweet tooth so we don't go anyplace without sharing a dessert. They make their own yogurt and we had to have it for dessert. It was sweet and tangy with rice, cashews, and raisins. It made me sad for all the yogurt I spend money on each week at the grocery store, I really should try to make my own. I had the pork momos which were served with peanuts in a spicy sauce with sesame oil; didn't particularly blow my mind.
