I'll start off by saying that the food was good. Pad thai was phenomenal, the lime adding a unique twist. The portion size was for a girl who can eat. They are knowledgeable about what is and isn't gluten free. Prices were VERY reasonable. The restaurant itself was very ambient with low, cozy lighting. However, they lacked HEAVILY in the service department. They weren't busy, so our party was sat immediately. But, we didn't see our server until 10 minutes later when she asked for our order (not drinks). In our 40 minute wait for the food, we didn't not see our waitress or get any refills. Everyone's food came out at awkward times , the salmon (which meant to take the longest) was one of the first to come out. food - 6/10 service - 7/10 I have tried this place before but decided to give it another try and I have to say this place is not a favorite. The portions don't make you full and the flavors aren't strong. The proportion of noodle to everything else was a bit much and the protein tastes like it was just added it on too afterwards. The pad see ew is 7/10, got beef and it was too hard. The texture was ok. Crazy noodle 6/10, got shrimp and the shrimp had no particular flavor and the dish overall was too sweet. There were also only 3 pieces of shrimp. The kra pow is a 6.5/10, had a nice sweet flavor but wish it had that kick of spice and a thicker sauce. The tom yum soup was 6/10, it's hard to go wrong with tom yum but this was did not hit. The mushroom and shrimp felt like they were just added in afterwards ans didn't have the strong soup flavor. The soup was also room temp not particularly hot or cold so it was an awkward sip. Overall I wouldn't come here to eat again. The waitress was nice and the place was clean with a bathroom. read more

The Taste is located in the heart of Amherst Center. The service is pretty good and the place is decorated in a minimalistic but modern design. I believe it is a family-run business, but everyone is professional and understands the business well. The food was pretty decent. I got the Basil Fried Rice, which was priced reasonably. I did think the portions were a bit small so it wasn't good for sharing, but priced reasonably enough for individual plates. The basil fried rice had a little kick in it but didn't have that much spice to overwhelm. Overall a good place to go if you are looking for Thai food in the area or a casual date night. read more

I've been here twice on two different trips to Amherst! Every dish was a delightful journey into the vibrant and complex flavors of Thai cuisine. Starting with the pumpkin curry, it was a rich and aromatic dish with the sweetness of the pumpkin complementing the warm Thai spices. A very comforting dish! I couldn't resist trying the Pad Thai, a classic Thai noodle dish, which did not disappoint! The Siam rolls, we're one of the crispiest things I've ever had! The contrast between the crunchy exterior and the tender, flavorful interior likely makes them irresistible appetizers. I regret eating them all in one sitting but I knew they would be good in a hotel microwave. The chicken coconut soup, made with a creamy coconut milk base, kaffir lime, tender chicken, mushrooms, and other herbs and spices infused the broth with layers of complex flavors, creating a comforting and aromatic soup that warms the soul. Lastly, the Thai-style basil chicken pan-fried dish was flavorful with tender chicken, aromatic Thai basil, bell peppers, onions, and chilies. My son and I were visiting colleges when we decided to eat dinner. We should have gone elsewhere. He ordered a chicken dish, I ordered a rice dish. As he was eating, he said it "tasted horrible" and even said "I think there's something wrong with this chicken." He was unable to finish the meal and pleaded with me not to embarrass him by complaining. By midnight he was violently ill, and continued to be until well into the next day. Best Thai food in the area, flavored correctly, spiced authentically and priced right. Curries are a go to with a stir fry noodle dish. You can also add a fried egg on your dish for a couple extra dollars, totally worth it. Problems, slow wait times, small tables, the rice they give you with the dish is very minimal, so you will may have to pay for an extra side of it which is not great. Serving sizes in general are small, but a top 5 restaurant in Amherst I would say in my opinion. read more

I would give the interior decorating a 3.5/5 I think it needs to be brighter and probably use a fan. It felt very stuffy especially on a hot day. My husband had the Garlic salmon entree ($15.95) which he gave a 5/5. He loved the way the salmon was grilled. And the portion was just right. Definitely a lot better than what he had at the Framingham legal seafood. His words. I on the other hand had the Pork Crazy noodle ($11.95) which I loved. I really loved that there was no gravy. Some restaurants would cook their noodles with lots of gravy. And I don't like that in my stir fried noodle dishes. I would give my dish a 4/5 only because I thought that the portion size was a little too small for its price. I would have liked a little more noodles. Other than that we also had a glass of Thai iced coffee and mango smoothie. I like their mango smoothie. They used real mangoes and they also cut it into little cubes for your glass. Great food, bad services! We had 6 people and the server refused to change us to a bigger when the whole place is empty, and we have to squeeze in a 4 people sized table. The waitress seems impatient when we ordered food, she just left and said tell me when you decide what you want. I want to complain about the service!!!!!! I waited a few minutes at the door before the waitress noticed me. She was not serving tables at that time. After I sit down she immediately disappeared . it took more than 15 minutes for them to show up again and another few minutes to notice me and my waving hand, and gave me the cup of water. Well I need to mention, It's not busy time! There were only 3 small tables and one big table of customers, most of the tables are empty! The waitress was just nowhere to be seen most of the time!!!! Lunch in Amherst center on a Saturday afternoon called for Thai. We came here since a friend who is local recommended it, and my sister, mom and I were all impressed. Lunches came with a hefty portion of food, plus a side salad and your choice of a small appetizer. I went with the veggie egg rolls. Really delicious! For my main, I went with the thai basil with veggies and sticky rice. Super tasty. They don't ask for heat levels here, which I was not expecting, however it was perfectly spicy for me and PACKED with flavor. My sister ordered the pad thai. It was so light, but so tasty. She said it was some of the best pad thai she has ever had. Overall, we really enjoyed our meals here and will return when we come back to Amherst! read more

No complaints whatsoever. Everything from the food to the service to the decor was all terrific. Even the prices were fairly reasonable. This Thai restaurant is one of the more classier Thai restaurants that I've visited, and yes I've visited a lot of Thai restaurants over the years. It's apparent somebody put a lot of thought into their decor (see my pics). Even the presentation of the food was carefully thought out. This restaurant would make a great date restaurant. That's right, it sort of has a romantic feel to it even though it's located in downtown Amherst right next to a popular pizza hang out joint. What's also nice is that it won't cost an arm and a leg for two people. I suppose if I were forced to say one negative thing it would be that I wished my portion size was slightly bigger. But maybe that's just me, because I hadn't eaten anything all day so I probably could eaten a god damn horse. Oh and my cashew chicken entree could have been more a tad more spicier. Just a tad. Their Thai Iced Tea is sooo good, I can't stress that enough. I'd go back solely for that iced thai tea, but the meal in general was really good too, I had the Green Curry with Duck. The presentation of all the food was really nice, the rice came in a separate plate stacked up into a cone shape, the Thai Iced Tea was in a glass mason jar and the curry was in a deep bowl. Stopped in for some Pad Thai with chicken and it ended up being some of the best I've had in the area! They use skinnier rice noodles than I'm accustomed to, but it was absolutely delicious, along with perfectly tender chicken. Service was friendly and very alert about allergies. At first I thought the dinner portion was a bit small for the price, but I ended up not finishing it and determined that it was probably just visually smaller because of the different noodles. I definitely recommend the "country" (spicy) version of pad thai! For desert I had the sticky rice with coconut milk and mango - which I will now probably come in for every time I am in Amherst! I could eat this every day, morning, lunch and night! The mango is seasonal, and I was glad that the waitress was very conscientious over that fact and said she would check to make sure the mango was ripe enough, and asked if I might like anything else if it wasn't. This place is amazing. I am half Thai, grew up eating Thai food, visit Thailand frequently and this is one of the most authentic Thai food places I've eaten at in the states. Definitely the best restaurant I've eaten at in Amherst hands down. Protip: Get the pumpkin curry it's an unreal traditional Thai dish and you never see it at any other Thai restaurants.
