Lentil Soup
Henri D.

DISRESPECTFUL SERVING SIZES (6 CHICKEN BREAST CUBES PER ENTREE!) PAPER UNTAPED DELIVERY PACKAGING WAS CAUSE FOR FOOD LEAKING. SAUCE WAS LIQUIDY & A UNDER SEASONED MESS. REFUSED TO GIVE ME A PARTIAL REFUND OR STORE CREDIT. Ordered 2 chicken curries through Door Dash my chicken curries were poorly packed with the chicken vindaloo sauce spilled onto the bag. The packaging was paper?! And not secured with any tape. But it gets worse, the chicken was unseasoned and dry as dirt. Curry sauce was liquid and under seasoned as well, yes under seasoned from a Indian restaurant. Worse of all in each curry I only got 6 chunks of chicken breast, less than A FIFTH OF A POUND. Not to mention the rice was overcooked and the lentil soup was watery and not thick and creamy par for the norm. The women I spoke to on the phone telling her the situation and hoping to get a partial refund a store credit or at least an apology, but in line with the food I got lying about package material saying they used plastic, then she passed the blame to door dash blah blah blah, she hung up on me when I called her out on her bs. No responsibility, a lot a businesses refuse to take responsibility for their poor food packaging or whatever it may be and pass it on to door dash.

This place should be called the Shame of India. It's that embarrassing. Along with the rice being dry, the chicken tikka masala tastes like pure Buffalo sauce. If this wasn't enough of an insult, their to-go servings of kheer are about the size of a shot glass (no I'm not joking). All this for $45. Not only would I refuse to go back, but I think, if the owners have any dignity, they'd shut down this glorified popsicle stand until it's able to put out a decent plate of food.

Amazing vegan menu. Owner is a strict vegetarian and understands her vegan costumers and able to veganize any order. I had the special hot dish with squash and potatoes and my spouse had the eggplant. You are given a choice on how spicy you would like the dish and the basmati rice is daily made and delicious. The appetizer selection is spectacular. I highly recommend

We went here on the opening day and were pleasantly surprised. The food was great not only in taste but appearance as well. It arrived fairly quick, was hot with large chunks of meat (we had chicken vindaloo) and veggies. The staff were very friendly and talkative. There are over a dozen tables and moderate foot traffic into the place. Especially for grand opening day. I think I have a new favorite Indian restaurant!

We arrived very close to closing time, and usually that's when you don't expect the best food or service. However, the staff were incredibly prompt, courteous, and genuinely warm throughout our visit. We ordered the saag paneer, dal makhani, and garlic naan, and everything arrived hot with perfectly balanced flavors and spice levels -- exactly what we needed on a cold, rainy night. The food was exceptional, and we made sure to thank the chef personally. The prices were very reasonable, the restaurant had beautiful music playing, the tables and linens were spotless, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. To top it all off, they surprised us with dessert on the house. The entire experience was heartfelt and memorable. I would definitely visit again and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for delicious food and outstanding hospitality.

The descriptions and spice level were super helpful. I think the restaurant tried too hard to appeal to American taste buds that many of the items seemed bland. Don't get me wrong, I like mild but there was little taste. Complimentary naan was warm and fluffy.

I liked that they had an actual drink menu with classics whiskey, vodka, and other regular cocktails. I almost ordered a pomegranate whiskey sour but decided not to drink tonight. Instead I got a pineapple juice drink that was really refreshing. We kept it pretty simple with chicken tikka masala and garlic naan (which I forgot to take pictures of), and it was good. Nothing over-the-top, but definitely enjoyable. I also went a little out of my comfort zone and ordered the pepper shrimp in a coconut sauce. That ended up being my favorite. It was really good, and I'd definitely order that again. Our waiter was very kind. There was a slight language barrier, but he was so patient and still explained things to us. I even learned that the traditional clay oven a lot of Indian dishes are cooked in is called a tandoor. Overall, a really nice dinner. I love Indian food, and I'd go back.

To my great surprise, Royal Spice, at least the evening I was there, is squarely in the outstanding category. I stopped in on a whim, on my way back (the long way) from Keene one late afternoon. Since it was just me, I only sampled one dish, the Chettinad chicken, and garlic cilantro naan. The flavor profile is from Southern India, specifically the Tamil Nadu region. This area has a rich cuisine centered around coconut and tamarind and a unique assortment of spices (being from the hottest area of India, the spices can be eye-watering, but here they ask you for your tolerance). The Chettinad had a wonderfully unique flavor profile, absolutely delicious. Even the naan was perfect: fluffy and crispy at the same time, loaded with fresh garlic and cilantro. I need to return with a large party to sample more.

We recently moved closer and I decided to try it for a work at home lunch day. I did no research before going. It turns out that Himalaya does not presently have a dine in option, which is fine because I live nearby. I walked in to look at the menu and order. I'm not sure if the person who helped me was having an off day, or maybe he's used to regular customers ordering ahead and didn't like having to change his routine, but he was not particularly welcoming. No smile or friendly greeting. I'm fairly sure that he rolled his eyes when I went to pay with cash. I don't know who this person was relative to the restaurant, but it didn't set a good tone. I ordered from the Lunch Specials. I ordered the Chicken Saag special which came with Basmati Rice and Naan. I don't remember the exact cost, but I remember being surprised at how inexpensive it was. Everything on the Lunch Special menu was inexpensive relative to places I frequent. I was told that it would be 10 minutes. I returned around 15 minutes later and my order was ready. All of the food was at least OK to pretty good, but didn't really pop for me. I'm much more familiar with Indian restaurants than I am with Nepalese and Himalayan restaurants, but some of the dishes share names. I'm not sure if there are seasoning and other variations in Indian versus Nepalese cuisine, or if any variations are more based upon the chefs cooking the meals. In any event, Himalaya's version of both the Saag and the chicken in the Saag were different than I'm used to. I prefer the way the Saag is seasoned in my favorite Indian places in CT. I feel like the chicken in most Indian restaurants is kebab style and is cooked in a tandoori oven. Himalaya's chicken had a rougher texture and seemed like it was perhaps roasted. It was pretty good, but probably my least favorite Saag dish I've had in a while. The Basmati rice was fine. The naan was OK. The texture and flavor didn't measure up to my favorite Indian restaurants. I have multiple nearby Indian restaurants that I prefer to Himalaya. In light of that and my less than positive service experience, I'm unlikely to return to Himalaya. However, given Himalaya's strong overall rating, it's clear that others have had good experiences and maybe you'll have better luck than I did. And as I said, the lunch specials are a good value. 3 Stars
