Pintu is always wonderful. Food is always excellent. Service is great also. Very comfortable place

As usual, I like to arrive just as soon as a place opens. In this case 11:30am. I was greeted by a pleasant fellow and I was told that I had to wait 5 short minutes for the lunch buffet to be ready, no problem there......it'll be nice and fresh! I've read other reviews that mentioned poor lighting, it seemed more than adequate to me even though it was during a sunny day. I grabbed a plate a got to it. I'd like to mention I really don't know anything about Indian food whatsoever, but I do know what tastes good and what is well made. I sampled everything offered on the buffet line at least once, some items several times. My favorite items were the Tandoori chicken, Veggie Pakora, Chicken Tikka Masala, as well as the Lamb Keema Matar and of course the Butter Naan. They offered Kheer Badam a sort of runny pudding for dessert, which was a lighter perfect choice and tasty for the end of my meal! Overall, the food was delicious and enjoyable. The Veggie Chana Masala and the Veggie Curry trays were cold, I'm not 100% sure but I'm thinking those two choices should have been warm. I ate them anyway however! The service was adequate, initially but later I was never asked for a refill of my soda, or water with two empty glasses sitting for some time in front of me. As well as having to ask for extra napkins.........which you'll definitely want to have! Paying your check was an interesting electronic payment experience. No paper bill at all, but a card reader is brought to your table and you pay and tip right there. Interestingly convenient I guess. Pintu's was definitely worth a visit and a great way to try numerous different kinds of Indian cuisine if you're not familiar. The bottom line is I left full and happy I stopped by. I have to tell you, I have eaten in a lot of Indian restaurants--all over the country. (Not in India, lol). You remember I was a food critic in CA and was actually paid for my opinion. :) So when I say that Pintu's Indian Restaurant stands tall among them all, I am not exaggerating. The food is excellent, all made from scratch, highly refined and complex, and amazingly delicious. Happily, except for the fried chicken, there are no industrial seed oils, no Canola. They use butter for naan, ghee for sauces, and tandoori has no oil at all. Yay! Once we tried the buffet and especially enjoyed the tandoori and the chicken masala. I love their rice pudding. A very refreshing meal topper. Our favorites--Nav Ratan Korma, a delicious vegetarian concoction of nine veggies and pureed nuts in a memorable cream sauce, and Lamb Muglai Korma (I'm thinking Korma must mean vegetables), with tender chunks of lamb, simmered with nuts and raisins in a creamy curry sauce---to die for. And, of course, naan--this time a perfect roasted garlic naan, great for sopping up those cream sauces, so not one drop is wasted. Pintu Chawla, the owner, was gracious and friendly (I read some people said he is rude. I suspect they were the ones initiating rudeness). Our servers, Hemanth and Brian were helpful and kind. It takes a lot to make a success of running restaurants these days--more than usual even. Pintu knows what he's doing. His staff is well managed. And, even the Indian music and comfy booths make the stay very pleasant. If there were tablecloths, china, and crystal, it would rival any five-star restaurant out there. But I give it five anyway for the reasons stated. This will be our new favorite for Indian food--which we absolutely love when it's done well. read more

My coworkers and I do a quarterly dinner out. After this dinner we looked at each other and said this is where it will always be held. On the way back from Boston we needed to grab some dinner with outdoor seating. Luckily we had a live band singing Jamaican beats! I deeply regret this meal... My sister was craving Indian food, so we decided to order Pintu's takeout. We were told it would be ready in 35-45 minutes. After a 45 minute wait, we arrived to a full parking lot and a restaurant of hustle and bustle. We had to wait an additional 20 minutes for our takeout. On a busy Saturday this is understandable. Yet the staff was not only unapologetic, but also was completely disorganized--- minus one star. The servers looked lost or unsure of themselves the entire time-- min another star. Someone forgot to provide a container of basmati rice-- subtract another star. I arrived home to discover that I was given okra burnt to a crisp --- deduct one star for the carcinogenic risk. Honestly, I am Desi and I've eaten better Indian food from a Trader Joe's or Saffron Road frozen dinner. Not to mention the expensive prices for small portions of food, poor execution, and awful service. I regret leaving a generous tip for this pickup. I truly dislike writing bad reviews and feel empathic, however I am hoping other members in the Yelp community read this warning and hopefully have a better experience than I did. We wanted to order tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala but the nice waitress said it costs more and these are all in the open menu which was surprisingly 17$ which totally worth it. Best Indian food I've had! My party had big differences in spice preferences, and when informing staff they handled it perfectly. If you ask for it mild, they gave you mild. I'm an asian man I know all Asians have secret menus. I was at my dentists (Hadley Dental) who are owned by an Indian family so I asked them where they eat if they want the real deal and they said "Pintu's". I live in Amherst and our Indian restaurant is horrible. Anyway I am so so happy I asked. Pintu's is a charming charming family style place and serves five star food you would usually have to go to New York to get. Also these people don't hold back nothing. If you want some Agni level godly fire, these people will send you to a fiery heaven you will never forget. My wife and I love this place so much. We ate everything. Food is amazing!!! Wait staff has left us bewildered. We have been there twice. First time, owner mentioned they were short staffed. Ok, plausible. Second visit, almost the same inattentive service. The waiter brought out one drink at a time, we aren't sure if he forgot the others or just not well trained on serving. But, we ordered a variety of apps and each had our own meals. Each app came out separately, one app was completely forgotten. So, not really sure we will go back. It's too bad! We love the food. read more

After many years did I get to eat proper and authentic North Indian how it is meant to be. I am aware of the other reviews and yes am also aware of they being erratic when they get busy however that's what you are buying : good food so I am fine to wait. The food quantity is pretty big and coming from Boston area expectations its even bigger and cheaper. The lachha paratha and the roti are truly all whole wheat and just about made perfectly how I have had it for years. Amritsari fish is a must: crispy on the outside and juicy inside with a tangy salty spice rub. Chicken Pishoti had a welcome fresh vibe to it although it's on the spicier side yet had the balance of the sweetness provided by the tomatoes. The Bhindi do piaza : it's not the typical okra tossed in a bucket full of onion in a tomato sauce. It's crispy and hot off the wok. Yes, I would have liked a bit saucier than drier however I'll take this anyway over most of the Boston area famous Indian restaurants. Lastly: this is extremely important: the quality of the basmati rice: what's the length of each grain? What's the broken to full cooked rice ratio? If it's more than 10% of broken rice then you have screwed it up. Also, perfectly cooked basmati rice is never sticky. Then comes the smell and how it tastes( depends if you have soaked it in hot water before cooking it in boiling water). I might sound like a snob of basmati rice. Haha. I might be one Theirs was perfectly cooked. Then why 4 star and not one? It's not life altering. It just exceeded my expectations but did not blew my mind off. Tried the lunch buffet on a Monday. I don't know much about Indian food so I can't speak to the authenticity, but everything was delicious. The buffet included a sampling of what I assume were classic meats and stews with salad and naan. The service was quick and friendly. The only thing keeping me from a five star rating was the price - $21 for the buffet and a Diet Coke. Seemed a bit much for a lunch buffet. Hands down the best Indian food in this area. Be ready for a long wait time on Fridays and Saturdays (whether you're eating in or taking out), they are extremely busy those days. I once asked them why the wait was so long, and they mentioned that everything is cooked to order. It's fresh and delicious! Can't go wrong! Guy once called me out for having the first generation iPhone when it first came out came over to my table said "you must think you're pretty important for having something expensive like that." I had heard about Pintu's from one my friends. We were in Springfield area for some work. And we decided to stop at Pintu's for quick lunch. They serve buffet and a la carte. We went for buffet. It was so great. Service was also really quick. I really enjoyed their Dal makhni. Tasty and flavorful. I definitely recommend trying it. The chicken tikka is decent. Having driven into Springfield from Vermont, my wife and I found Pintu's for dinner at the end of a roundabout off an ornate bridge (to conceptualize how a circle could have an endpoint, you'll need to visit Pintu's). The bar section was pretty full for a Tuesday night; the dining section not so much. Once seated in our booth, we perused the eclectic menu. When I shared my Whole Food Plant Based proclivity with the waiter, he immediately beelined it to the kitchen to consult the Chef, who was nice enough to come out to our table and walk me through some viable menu options for me. I started with the mixed veggie platter--a copious assortment of onions, tomato, and cucumber in a generously dappled sprinkling of aromatic spices that made these veggies pop with flavor. Next, Dal soup, another generous portion whose spicy heat catalyzed an impassioned and persevering perspiration that would have me toweling my forehead and scalp with my unsuitable napkin for the rest of the meal (it was my own doing, having boldly ordered the 'hot' version of each dish). Finally, the Chana Masala, equally spicy yet, as with the soup, just enough so as to blast the volume of the delicious melange of chickpeas, tomato, and ginger rather than drown it out. Ultimately, this dinner was quite the culinary and sudoriferous adventure, one that, as with all well prepared meals comprised of well prepared, real food, left me feeling sated and content with no intestinal repercussions any time afterward. I am told by reliable sources that this is legitimately the most authentic southern Indian cuisine in Massachusetts. We tried it tonight and can confirm. The flavors and spices are perfectly balanced and there's a unique quality to the dishes. We ordered at lot of food: Chicken tikka masala, nav rayan korma (incredible), lamb korma, bindi masala, a mushroom dish that was out of this world, and garlic naan. This is THE spot! Great food, staff and the manager is amazing! I'm visiting from Cali and my friend brought me here as it is her favorite place in the area. Pintu was super friendly. Engaged us in conversation and made great recommendations on places to visit during my stay. To top it off, he customized the "birthday serenade" by playing a trendy song that my friend quite enjoyed. He even added a few more Caribbean tunes since in convo, he'd discovered that I was from the Caribbean. We also got a complimentary wine sample and gift wrapping paper. The food was delicious, flavorful, very filling and enough to still have leftovers. 1/2 entrees can be shared among 2 people and you'd still have leftovers. They've also got a good drink menu and wine list with many options. This was by far the best dining experience I've had in a very long time. They were very personable and made it a custom experience. Moving to this area and found this restaurant by mistake. Superb place. The staff is super friendly, the owner Raj was so sweet and basically served us himself. The food was amazing as well, we got the samosas, chicken malai tikka, bhindi, dessert and chai and everything was on point. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for amazing indian food. We recently came back from India and were bummed out thinking that we wouldn't find Indian authentic food in the US. Then we came to Holyoke for a work trip and found Pintu's. The food at this restaurant is so good it is almost like being back in India. Their Shahi Panner is out of this world. I loved their coconut filled naam bread. The only thing that I would improve is the decoration as it is a little dark and dated - bright colors and more light is needed. But the food was so delicious!
