We went here on the recommendation of our son. He and his girlfriend go there. The restaurant is very quaint and decorated in the Indian motif. Our appetizer of the Indian breads was adequate to share for all three of us. I had the Mango Chicken and Shrimp at the medium spice level. It was very flavorful. Returned to Massachusetts once again and immediately found myself in this restaurant consuming lots of cauliflower lollipops, samosas, chicken tikka masala, and a refreshing mango lassi. And once again it was all completely scrumptious!!! read more

We enjoyed a tasty dinner on the patio. Everything was super tasty. We also enjoyed a couple of less 'usual' Indian dishes. The cauliflower lollipop dish was awesome! Service was good. The only weird thing was that the waiter insisted on taking our app plates but yet had us keep our silverware for re-use but we had nowhere to put them except directly on the patio table. We also didn't find the food terribly spicy despite asking for it to be about a 7. We were being cautious but either they forgot to make it spicy or they are fairly conservative on the spice heat. Third time coming here. First time eating indoors. What a beautiful and quaint place. The staff was all so wonderful, friendly, funny and inviting. Brought my parents for their first time. They LOVED it. Mom had chicken tikka, dad had Lamb tikka. They shared Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes. I had vegetable samosas and vegan chatpate Chole. This Indian restaurant is so GORGEOUS inside! Down to every detail! The owner shipped the chairs and tables over from India. Stunning wood carvings. You can look into your table that is covered with glass and see little wood carved details. The chairs are wood and carved beautifully. They have Indian Goddesses placed around. You truly feel as if you have been transported to India while sitting in the restaurant. The food is SUPERB! I love the variety basket of breads. The chicken tikka masala melts in your mouth! This restaurant truly looks like you're eating inside someone's house. The place is decked out in decor from floor to ceiling. The owners also are regularly checking in on each table and are super friendly. They don't go light on the spices here. The food and drinks were all delicious. They have a unique drink menu that is hard to find at other places. The naan was hot and fluffy. And the dishes we got was also flavorful. We had to get mild this round but I feel like that dulled some of the flavors compared to when we ordered the normal spice level. read more

FANTASTIC as always... there were 5 of us, seated in their patio outside (sooo nice to eat outside)... we each ordered and shared different dishes... every single one was beyond fabulous!!! The Owners came over to chat with us, as well as to make recommendations (we asked for creative new dishes)... the beer recommendations were spot on and the Muga white wine was on point, perfect pairing and we polished off the bottle quickly! Wife & I used to be regulars here 25+ years ago it was as good or better any Indian we'd had in NYC. I went back today and happy to report it's still top notch. I have an health condition which is relieve well prepared spicey food, Indian being the best for this. My daughter and I headed to India house for dinner, it's one of the better Indian restaurants in the area. I've visited a number of times but not for the last couple years. For a starter we ordered the veggie samosas. They were tasty but I'm used to a very rustic samosa and these did not feel like they were hand made. I could very well be wrong but that's what I felt at the time. For our mains we had aloo gobi and chicken tikka masala with both regular and garlic naan. The tikka masala was chunks of chicken in a very fragrant curry and the aloo gobi was more spinachy and saucey than I've had it before, The dish was much dryer at other places. Regardless, it was pretty tasty. I do like this place. Portions are on the small side, and prices are on the big side. A curry will run ~$24 and 1 naan is $4. read more

Most Expensive Indian Restaurant I Have Been To, Won't Be Back. $25 for a Chicken Biryani and $29 for a lamb curry, I was expecting top notch elegantly garnished Indian food. But what I got, a 50 minutes wait time for a mostly empty restaurant and below average under spiced Indian food along with below average serving sizes, and dry chicken. Expect to spend $40-$50+ per person if you're getting appetizers and drinks. And if you're really hungry you still may not even be full, when you walk out the door you will be filled with regret. The best Indian food I've ever had. Full stop. Samosas, Coconut Chicken, and Aloo Baigan. All delicious! In walking distance of the The Academy of Music, you can park once for your lovely evening out. The outdoor seating is working great--very informal: they serve the entrees in takeout containers, so all you need is the lid if you have some to take home. If there's something you want that you don't see on the menu, ask--we were pleased to learn we could get paratha and lime soda, neither of which was on the menu. read more

Looking for Indian food in this area to eat for my daughter's birthday, I took the recommendation of someone else who loves this place. We usually eat at Pintu's so we know little bit about good Indian food. This place it's quite a bit different than Pintus, The atmosphere was bright, the tables looked like medieval doors turned into tables, the waitress was phenomenal, and they had a well organized system of people delivering the food, bringing the bar order, and picking up the plates who can also get you something you needed if you wanted so you didn't have to wait. This is a good cross-training model for any restaurant. They also had clever dipping dishes and bowls that your food was delivered in, these things just add a really nice touch. When we went to order, the menu was separated nicely into foods that are vegetarian, gluten-free, and specialties, and they even had cauliflower rice. This is a restaurant who knows how to design food choices for the type of area that this is. Unfortunately, I tend to always order the chicken tiki marsala, because that is just one of my favorite dishes, and my daughter and her boyfriend ordered the same, (ours medium, his hot) so I don't have a lot of variety to report here. They grill their chicken and it has a different flavor to it in the sauce that I found tasty. They don't serve as much food as Pintus does, but it certainly was in the same caliber of authentically good sauce. The person who ordered the vegetarian dish ordered something that had chunks of potatoes and other vegetables, and it was super tasty. The total for our bill, including tip, came to about $30pp and that included appetizers, and an adult beverage. I would highly recommend making reservations on any weekend although the service does go quickly without one. read more

Wow. Definitely one of my favorites in the area! We ordered take out for my husband's birthday during quarantine and definitely did not disappoint. Ordered via phone and then when we got there, there was already a line outside of people waiting to get their food. Everyone was 6 feet apart and they put our food down on the table. My personal fav was the paneer tikka and the chole! The chole has a homemade kick to it and the masala to it is amazing! The paneer had flavor to it and not the same bland paneer tikka most restaurants have! Husbands favorite was the saag and the truffle Parmesan! He's tried a lot of naans before but this truffle parm has to be his favorite! He also finished the saag in one sitting, so there's that. I also want to add that our food accidentally fell from a rough pot hole on the road and the plastic Tupperware held through! Major plus points on that. I have eaten here many many times over the years and generally recommend it. I would have written a five star review before my last experience. Last weekend the owner/owner's daughter was incredibly rude and pushy. I recognize her as always being there and in charge so I assume she has a relation. We were a group of three younger people, two of us were splitting one curry dish and one was getting their own (very expensive place for Indian food and portions, so this wasn't a "cheap" move). The lady mistakenly thought we were all sharing one dish and started getting aggravated. However she hadn't even looked at our friend to take her order. Of course we also got orders of Lassi and Garlic naan. The meal went fine after that with other servers attending to us. Until towards the end she comes back and asks if she can put in more food - berating us for not having leftovers to take home. We said no three or more times before she stopped and gave up. It was very embarrassing and awkward. No offer of dessert however. Main server was nice and usually the great food makes up for the prices. My family (5 adults and one 1.5 year old toddler)could not wait to be seated and anticipated our meal remembering the last time we ate at this restaurant. We were shown our table at 5:30 as per our reservation. We ordered appetizers and drinks and they came quickly. Good samosas and pikora. We waited and waited for our entrees trying to keep the little one occupied during the wait. There was food constantly going out the door for take out but no food for us. We could not see how it was possible that all those take out and call in orders came after we sat down. We finally got our dinner at 7:30...yes 7 flippin 30. No word for those many minutes that our meals were in the way...so anyhooo... We were served and the quality of the food did not make up for that fact that we were there over 2.5 hours for some apps, rice, naan and 4 hot dishes. My husband and I visited the India House Restaurant in Northampton, Ma, for the first time last weekend. I had picked this restaurant for it's good reviews, and a warm atmosphere. I loved the ambiance, and the food was exceptional. My husband has always loved Indian food, and he was extremely pleased. The service was also very warm and friendly. So I would highly recommend this restaurant, and I wish we lived closer! But even more than the great food, ambiance, and service, I have to say that I was so impressed by the staff of this restaurant because after leaving, I realized I had lost an earring that was quite valuable, possible in the restaurant. My husband went back in to search for the earring without success. We drove home, about a 2 hour trip, and a few minutes after arriving, we received a phone call from the restaurant saying they had found my earring, and would send it to me! It arrived a few days later. To me, that act of caring showed a lot of integrity. read more

The high prices ($20 for butter chicken) combined with the very bland taste on plastic bowls and cutlery didn't sit right with us. I am fan of this place and have been a few times. Atmosphere is very nice and it's a building that might have been an older stately home sometime in history of Noho. The decor inside is all Indian influenced and well done. The Indian cuisine includes all the standard fare you would expect. The vegetarian options are a bit more present than I have seen in other Indian places - but being in Northampton MA its a good move and certainly appreciated, I suspect. Service has been great every time I have come. In the good weather you can eat outside with ample seating ...and that for me is always a big plus. Again, appetizers, main course, are all what you would expect. I have never ordered desserts. I have only ordered beer or wine with my meal. I do not think they have a full a bar. For appetizers I have ordered the Vegetable Pakora, Samosa - all very good. The Naan is good and standard, I have never ordered any of the special ones. For main courses I have had Nargisi Biryani, and chicken Korma, and chicken Masala - again all very good. Prices and value are there. Prices might be 5-10% more than what you would expect but the quality, service and atmosphere of the India House makes it well worth it. For sure, this place is a "do again" ... and I have done it again, and again! I certainly recommend India House. read more

If the food wasn't good I would never ever support this restaurant. That's probably why they get away with charging so much and being so gross. I have also witnessed them being rude and unfair to their employees. This place is not worth supporting. If you're thinking takeout Indian would be great, don't bother. We placed our order online, at 4:30 pm - not exactly the dinner rush hour. Estimated finish was 55 minutes. Well, we were already in the car on our way, and while we expected a bit of a wait, that's actually quite a long wait. But that part is fine. What was ridiculous is that you have to CALL to tell them when you arrive. My husband and I both tried to get through. Each of us called 25-30 times over 15 minutes. And then, over an hour after we placed our order, we were told it would be another 25 minutes. We live almost half an hour away. By the time we actually eat, it will be almost 7. We have some decent Indian sauce in a jar at home. I won't be bothering with India House takeout again. Other restaurants are doing this much better. read more

3.5 stars probably for me. All of the food is good, but the prices are steep. Maybe it's the area, but these same dishes would run you $14-$15 in DC, where they charge $18-$24 here. Service is a little slow - our drinks came out in waves, and we rarely received water pitcher replacements. The paneer naan was ok, but lacking a bit of flavor. Was also too fluffy for me - reminded me more of a pancake than naan. The mango coconut cardamom lassi was very good - maybe my favorite order of the night. Mostly mango in flavor, with very subtle coconut/cardamom. However, maybe not worth the extra charge over the plain mango - not sure. For entrees we tried the lamb gosht aloo, cilantro lime chili chicken, and chicken tikka. All were good, spice levels were good, my favorite was probably the cilantro lime chicken but all were very good. Portion size was standard for an Indian place (aka I had no trouble finishing), and each is served with basmati rice. One thing about India house that I wasn't a fan of - we usually order some vegetarian dishes as sides, but here they only have one size and they'll run you around $15-16 on average. read more

Owners gave off unpleasant vibes, we went there as a party of six and though the servers were very nice it did not make up for the owners standoffish behavior. The food was mid to say the most. If you are looking for spice then please look elsewhere. Overall the food was definitely not worth the money, the prices were ridiculous compared to other Indian restaurants where you better food and serving sizes for much less. A portion of food we ordered came wrong and when we asked for the correct order they increased the service charge for a mistake they made and didn't even apologize for it.
