    Chaat area

This is one of the very largest Indian buffets we have been to in our area. There is a small Chaat table with about 4 items plus two soups. Around the cornor there is a U shape buffet area with at least 25 different hot roll-top buffet units. The vast majority of items on display originate from the South, everything is beautifully presented and maintained at perfect temps. Overall this was a good experience there were, however; several selection that I felt were overly salty. The food was tasty but there are a few other buffets we attend that are smaller and the food we feel is better there . A large selection of items is difficult to execute and is reflected in a higher price approximately $25/ person is what you should expect to pay at Peppers. Peppers is worth a stop as you will be introduced to many new items perhaps you haven't seen before. There are some exceptional items on this buffet just not enough of them to push the review above 3 stars.

Pretty solid indian food, decent decor, reasonable pricing. Being familar with Kumar's before it, and the eastern pizza co beside it, I was interested to see what has changed from the last time I've been to this location. First off, they didn't change any of the decor from Kumars. If you been there when they were Kumar's, they kept all of it. Not a detractor, but besides the name change there isn't much that has changed there. The server was kind, took our orders and offered advice on the menu. I asked for him to bring the heat on the chicken 55, wanted to rue the day I was born. We got samosa's to share, along with a couple naans and some curry to see how their standard fare comes out. Food came out pretty quickly. I will admit that food service always seems to be pretty quick at these smaller locations. We took pics and dug in. The Chicken 55 and fried jalepeno bites were the weak parts of the meal. The coating on the peppers was a thick chickpea shell which was very crunchy but seasoned. The jalepenos didn't provide any heat, and the peppers were mush from the inside. They were probably frozen, but not the best bite. The chicken 55 was only hot in temperature, unfortunately being incinerated and overcooked. There was a good amount of dried peppers mixed in, but they didn't have time to rehydrate and impart that heat into the dish itself. So it wasn't hot. The Samosas were also somewhat basic. No spices in the filling, mostly came off as a chickpea mash in the middle of a pastry wrapper. Not bad, just nothing special either. The rest of the meal came out pretty good though. The curry had perfectly cooked chicken and a flavorful gravy, some earthy spice notes, a good amount of heat, and just a little of the tomato acidic bite. With the lightly fragranced and super light basmati, it was a good bite. I also enjoyed their naan, soft and fluffy. I don't think they do a good job with their stuffing though. The server really overhyped the heat level of the bullet naan we got, but once again we didn't get heat. Overall, as an indian place this one has the promise to be great. Right now, there's some tweaks that need to be done to bring them to the higher levels but it's good for the area. They need to be bolder in their flavors, reduce the acid bite of the tomatoes with maybe a tiny bit of baking soda. Don't overpromise or hype up a dish, and be a little careful with the oil temps if you're using a fryer.

Food was delicious, and we got to try some things we've never had before. The service was great and attentive even on a busy night. The food was prepared to perfect spice level requested. Looking forward to coming back to try the buffet! Thanks!

There not a lot if decor either. The music is authentic and they play Indian MTV. The immediately start you out either a beer pitcher of water. For my drink, I'm having a Limca (you just grab it out of the cooler). Limca is an Indian multinational brand of lemon- and lime-flavoured carbonated soft drink made primarily in India and certain parts of the U.S. It contains 60 calories per 150ml can. The formula does not include fruit, relying instead on artificial flavours. In an interview in 2008, Ramesh Chauhan of Parle Bisleri revealed that he had approached the owners of Duke's Lemonade, requesting them to share the formula for the drink with the promise not to make it in India, which was turned down. Chauhan decided to come up with his own formula, which he launched under the Limca brand in 1977. In 1992, when the Indian government allowed Coca-Cola to return for operations, at the same time as it admitted Pepsi for the first time, Coca-Cola bought local soft-drink (soda) brands, from Parle Bisleri owner Ramesh Chauhan including Limca, Thums Up (a cola-like drink), Maaza (a mango-juice based drink), Citra (a clear lemon-lime drink), and Gold Spot (orange flavour). Prior to 1988, the original formula of Limca contained brominated vegetable oil (BVO). After worldwide reports of ill effects of BVO, its use in soft drinks was banned in India. As a result of this ban, the formula for Limca was changed. This is good (artificially flavored or not). For my soup, I'm having the Chicken Hot and Sour (spicy). This is a popular Indo-Chinese soup made with mixed vegetables, mushrooms, soy sauce, herbs and spices. It has a balanced taste that is spicy, tangy and hot. The soup is usually thickened lightly and flavored with ingredients like ginger, garlic, vinegar and pepper. This is good! It's not too salty. It's hot and spicy. Lots of chicken too (it's small chunks and at the bottom). Ceramic plates and metal silverware. That's a good sign! For my appetizer, I'm having the Chicken Makai Kebabs. Otherwise known as Reshmi kebab, this is [technically] a Pakistani dish of boneless chicken marinated in spices, cream, and cashew paste, and then grilled in a tandoor. The name "reshmi" translates to "silk" and describes the kebab's tender, silky texture. Some recipes use ground chicken and cream cheese to achieve this silky texture, creating a "seekh" kebab instead of a "boti" kebab. Indians make it a lot too. This is a LOT to eat! It's steaming hot! It takes a while to cook so be patient. The spices are defining unusual. I like the Indian version of cole slaw too as a side dish except they use of onion. It's crunchy. Yummy! There is a new place opening up across the mall called Sakura Haven. The new venue plans to feature an anime theme with cosplay, a live DJ, karaoke, and other themed entertainment events. Signs were recently installed at their new space. Sakura Haven has been operating as a pop-up at various bar around Connecticut. The new venue is their first physical location. For my entree, I'm having the Chicken Madras. Chicken Madras is a flavorful, spicy, and tangy Indian curry originating from the southern region of India and the city of Chennai, formerly known as Madras. The dish features chicken in a rich tomato-based sauce made with a unique blend of Madras curry powder, which is a mixture of South Indian herbs and spices. The curry is known for its heat, which comes from chili peppers or paprika, and its tangy, citrusy notes. I'm told they use coconut here. You can add naan but I don't eat a lot of bread. This is steaming hot! I love this sauce! It's not very spicy but I like it! What a great meal here!

I'm starting it out with sambar. Sambar is a flavorful, lentil-based stew that's a cornerstone of South Indian cuisine. It's typically made with pigeon pea lentils (toor dal), tamarind, vegetables, and a fragrant spice blend known as sambar powder. The dish is often tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and dried red chilies. Sambar is known for its rich, aromatic flavors and diverse variations across different regions. This is a bit spicy and very salty but I one it! Next up, I'm having a [vegetarian] samosa. A samosa is a crispy, fried pastry that originated in the Middle East and is popular in South Asian and West Asian cuisine. The savory snack is made with a pastry-like crust and can be filled with spiced potatoes, peas, onions, meat, or fish. The filling can be spicy or sweet, and the shape varies by region, sometimes triangular, crescent, or cone-shaped. It is often served with a couple sauces. These are good! The light green one is called a green chutney. Green chutney is the most common sauce served with samosas, which is made with a combination of cilantro and mint. Other options include mango chutney, tamarind chutney, tomato chutney, or raita, which is a yogurt-based sauce. This can be a bit spicy. The brown one is a tamarind sauce. Tamarind sauce, often used in Thai and Indian cuisines, is a condiment made from the pulp of the tamarind fruit, known for its unique tangy, sweet, and slightly sour flavor profile. This is less spicy and very tasty. For my appetizer, I'm having the Baby Corn Pepper Fry. These are battered baby corns that ate stir fried. It is quite good and nicely garnished. For my entree, I'm having the Gongura Chicken Kabab tandoor. Gongura, also known as sorrel or roselle, is a leafy green vegetable with a tangy flavor, commonly used in South Indian cuisine, particularly in Andhra Pradesh, to make chutneys, pickles, and curries. It's boneless, well seasoned and mixed in with purple onions and green bell peppers. Be sure to add the lemon! This is fantastic! Easy to eat and very light. For dessert, I'm the Carrot Halwa. Gajar ka halwa, also known as gajar halwa, is a beloved North Indian dessert of grated carrots cooked down into a pudding-like consistency with milk, sugar, cardamom, and sometimes ghee. The word gajar means "carrot" in Hindi, and halwa refers to the porridge-like texture. This sweet treat is often made during the winter months when red carrots are plentiful, and can be served warm or cold as a snack or dessert. This is a low cholesterol, delicious dessert! I love these guys!

**Mayabazaar: Creative Concept, Underwhelming Execution**…read more You can't miss the Mayabazaar food truck when you spot it--the exterior is a creative mashup of Indian cinema meets Marvel, with Bollywood and Tollywood actors' faces photoshopped onto the Avengers. It's quirky, fun, and definitely gets your attention. We went in with high hopes and hungry stomachs. Here's where we might have gone wrong: Mayabazaar apparently specializes in South Indian food, but we decided to venture into their Indo-Chinese offerings instead. We ordered chicken fried rice, chicken Hakka noodles, chicken lollypop, and--staying closer to their wheelhouse--South Indian thagubothu chicken. The verdict? Everything was just...meh. Nothing had that standout flavor or quality that would make you think, "I need to drive out of my way for this." We were two families, seven people total, and we sampled what felt like a rainbow of preparations from their menu. The food wasn't bad, per se, but it wasn't memorable either. None of us have made the trip back. Hartford County already has a crowded field of Indian restaurants, each claiming authenticity and trying to carve out their niche. Mayabazaar has real potential--the creative branding shows they're thinking outside the box. But potential only goes so far. The execution needs to match the concept. Maybe we should have stuck with their South Indian specialties instead of the Indo-Chinese route. But when a restaurant offers a diverse menu, everything on it should be worth ordering. For now, Mayabazaar remains just another option in an already saturated market.

Lead to some awkward moments. The dosa lunch was good. Very much different types of bread and sauces to dip them.none of the sauces had a lot of spice or flavor, which was a letdown. The fried bread was very savory, and the steamed bread was like a masa bread which was a good sauce sponge. Just needed more flavor. The northern Indian lunch was more similar to other dishes we had. The carb being rice and the curries with a bit more body to them. Still lacking spice, but not bad. The carrot and cardamom sugar dessert was a tad too sweet. Needed to tamper the raw sugar flavor down a bit to let the carrot and cardamom flavors play off each other rather than both getting obliterated by sugar. The dosa was fun, the peas and mashed potato were bland, but the crispy dosa had a cheesy like crisp to it which was nice. Price was cheap, everything came out to around 25 bucks. I would hope for more flavor out of these style of dishes, but it was okay for the money.
