I'm back! It's probably been a decade. The restaurant is located on 1119 Silas Deane Highway in Wethersfield, CT. The sister restaurant is located on 575 Talcottville Rd. in Vernon, CT. They start you out with a cold ice water. For my first drink, I'm having the Old Fashioned made with Four Roses Bourbon, simple syrup, a dash of bitters (2-3 for me) and garnished with an orange and a Maraschino cherry. This isn't bad. It's balanced pretty well. It could be a bit more chilled. I would recommend stirring it with a bar spoon. For an appetizer, I am trying the Sabjiplatter which is an assortment of vegetable fritters including eggplant (Bhujia's), potato, onion, spinach and cauliflower which come with tamarind and mint sauces. This is good! I love those sauces! For our second appetizer, we are having the Utsav Kebab Platter made with a blend of Tandoori kebabs, chicken tikka, chicken malai, kalmi kebab and shrimp tikka. These are good! Dip them in the sauces. They can be a bit dry. For out next appetizer, we are having the Papadum With Chutney which is toasted lentils crispy and flattened with onion chutney, tamarin and mint sauce. I love that onion chutney! For my soup, I'm having the Thakkali Rasam. This is a spicy South Indian hot and sour thin soup made with garlic, tamarind, herbs and spices. It's hot, spicy, tastes a little oily and has a few dried red pepper flosters. I love it! For my salad, I'm having the Garden Salad made with fresh cut rounds of cucumber, carrots, onions, tomato, and carrot served with Olive oil and Chat Masala. This thing is huge! I love the dressing! For my entree, I'm having the Goat Mamsun Koora which is goat meat n bone cooked on roasted coconut peanut masala with hot chilies, ginger, garlic and curry leaves. This is delicious! It's quite couch too!!For my second drink, I'm having a Proper Manhattan made with High West Double Rye, equal parts sweet and dry vermouth, a dash of bitters and garnished with a cherry. Very good! Sad to hear this place is closing! Their lunch special was a great deal, just $15. Everything was delicious, fresh, and a good quality. It was super empty when we went for lunch but unlike some other reviews I found the service to be quick until we were ready to pay for our bill, then we couldn't find anyone! "There's a party going on right here A celebration to last throughout the years" (Kool and the Gang) What is the English translation of the word Utsav? Would you believe "celebration, or joyous occasion"? Well, I can probably declare that celebration is the right word to describe one of the best lunch specials I've found in months. Now brace yourself, and remove all breakables from the room, when I tell you that you can get a seven course Indian feast of a lunch for just $15. Utsav has 22 lunch specials priced in tiers -$15 for vegetable or chicken, $18 for seafood, and $20 for lamb. You'll find Utsav in the Wethersfield shopping center on the Silas Deane Hwy. All of those lunch specials start with a lightly dressed refreshing salad of greens, shredded carrots, seeded half cucumber slices, and sliced red onions. Now let me tell you about the remaining six courses. Your lunch comes out on a serving tray with lots of bowls - one each for your entrée, Basmati rice, eggplant with zucchini, spinach with potato, rice kheer for dessert (a rice pudding with raisins and nuts), and a separate plate with 3 wedges of Naan bread. I wanted to try something different for my entrée, and since I didn't think I ever had Khorma before, I ordered Chicken Khorma prepared very spicy. Korma is an Indian curry cooked in a yogurt sauce with nuts and spices. There was a good amount of tender chicken cubes, and that spicy curry was wonderful. Same with the rice, bread, and the vegetables, although I did prefer the spinach with potato over the eggplant with zucchini. There was so much rice and bread that I took half of those portions home for another day. We love Utsav! They make incredible food that's impossible to stop eating once you start. It's also a very large restaurant with comfortable seating, and several tables that can accommodate larger parties. We came to with some friends to celebrate my birthday. We ordered a large spread to make our own little buffet and everything was amazing! We had mutter paneer, dal tadka, tandoori chicken, balti baingan, and hakka noodles. Everything was vegetarian except for the chicken, and even if you are a meat eater I recommend you try any and all of those dishes. The way Indian cuisine handles vegetables is always next level! It's hard to pick a favorite dish, but I have to say that the hakka noodles were perfectly smoky with tender-crisp vegetables, and the balti baingan, which is a dish comprised of smoky mashed eggplant, rocked my world. Service has always been great when I've been. It's friendly, quick, and I've never seen my water glass go down more than halfway. Owner and servers should be Embarrassed. When we walked in and were seated, it took them what seemed to be a LONG time to even talk to us to see if we had any questions on the menus. They never even asked us if we wanted drinks. I'm not very familiar with Indian cuisine, I've had it once before, I don't know what it was, but I remember enjoying it. I was with a friend who suggested we stop at Utsav Indian Cuisine for a light lunch. She wanted their Mango Lassi, there's the sweet and the salty to choose from. We went with the sweet. I think I should have gone with the salty. We also got Lamb Samosa. As soon as we placed our order, the waiter came with the bill...he hadn't even brought the water yet. I asked him if he could wait a bit. Our Lassis came out, and I wasn't impressed, as we were sipping, I'm not kidding but another waiter brought another copy of the bill... what is going on?? On to the lassi.. this is very heavy on the yogurt, a little mango. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be, but it's not for me. It made me very thirsty after. The salty version has spices in it, I might have liked it better. The Lamb Samosa was very tasty. This is a triangular shaped pastry stuffed with spicy lamb and peas. It came with mint and tamarind sauces for dipping. This was delicious, with just the right amount of heat. The service was unfortunately awful. Not just because they kept asking for payment long before service was delivered, also because we had to ask for plates and napkins. Maybe it was just an off day, or someone was just hired. I am a fan of the food at Utsav Indian cuisine; however, I cannot tolerate being told that "we are closed" and being asked to leave at 2:01 PM when the lunch hours state 12 to 2. I would assume that the lunch hours mean that is when they will seat you and that if they seat you they will give you enough time to enjoy your meal. Such is not the case. I was brought to check while I was still eating, was asked again if it was ready a few minutes later, and then, as stated was asked to leave. They have lost my loyalty. I am a regular customer who has been here probably over 50 times. There will not be another visit. Customers, particularly regular customers, should mean something. read more

And nah, Covid impacted workforce crunch has got nothing to do with it. If you are a group larger than 4, look for a diff place. We were a group of 10. 5 vegetarian n 5 non vegetarian. Appetisers... Shaam savera...their speciality Gobi Manchurian...decent Chicken 65....no go Chicken wings...decent Utsav's mixed grill platter...50% was cauliflower. Sweet lassi Salt lassi Main course... Chicken biriyani...no go, not a biriyani. Lamb biriyani...no go, not a biriyani. Paneer khurchan...decent Malai kofta...no go Hakka noodles...no go 6 out of 10 above lists preparations were less than mediocre. The host was not aware of the menu and couldn't help us through the orders. Had no suggestions and had to ask other staff members to answer any of our questions. Since the restaurant wasn't busy, we asked for the head host multiple times to assign another or just help out our guys, but he did nothing! One of my favorite Indian restaurants around. From the awesome ambiance (even with a fish pond with bridge over sections) to the awesome food and flavors, this is a must try Indian restaurant in the area. The drink choices are also great but what sets the place apart from others is the true depth of flavor that they have and deft touches of spice when requested. You can go all the way from 5 alarm to no bells at all on heat, all while still getting true flavor in what you are eating. The prices have gotten a bit higher since Covid making this a harder place to visit on the regular, but it is still my current favorite Indian restaurant in the state. read more

Utsav has an extensive menu of Indian dishes that are not commonly found. They also have different dosas. I ordered the Mysore dosa, Balti Baingan (eggplant), tawa fried fish, and amma's fish curry. Each entree comes with rice, but the rice didn't seem fresh. I was excited but the only dish that I got which was enjoyable was the fish curry. Prices are a bit on the high side. The Mysore dosa comes with a coconut chutney and sambar. It was waay too spicy for me to enjoy. Be aware if you cannot handle spice. I felt it burning in my stomach as spicy chutney was spread on the whole crepe. The coconut chutney and the sambar was good and not spicy at all. The spice level on the fry fish and fish curry can be adjusted. I opted for mild. The tawa fish was a bit bland and still had a fishy smell. The fish curry was good and creamy. Pretty good Indian food for the area! My friend and I started off with masala dosa- similar to crispy crepe with dipping sauce. This was my first time having it and thought it was pretty yummy. My friend said that the dosa here isn't as crispy as dosas at other places she has tried before. For entrees, I got the chicken tikka masala and my friend got the chicken korma. We both agreed that the sauces were really good but the meat was very tough. The garlic naan was one of the best I've tried though- soft, buttery, and covered in garlic. The food here really hit the spot. It is a popular restaurant as they were pretty full on the weekend. All the foods were flavorful and plentiful. I have a service dog. He's been tested and passed the state test, he's fully recognized in the eyes of the law. Today I came in and my party was relegated to a part of the restaurant that was away from customers eyes. The host that sat us told us that if anyone asked it was a service dog. We were confused and I said, "he is a service dog." and he nodded like we were playing the part. My friend said "no, like an actual licensed service dog." He looked panicked and then left. It's so scary that he was willing to let in an untrained dog into a restaurant. He just assumed my dog was a pet and allowed us in. Scary! That can put real service dogs in danger! (like my dog is!!) We had another great takeout meal from Utsav. I'll stick with what's new for us. Tawa Tamancha is on the tandoori grill section of the menu and the dish is essentially seasoned and grilled vegetables like broccoli, green beans, potatoes, onions and peppers and grilled paneer. The vegetables have great flavor and texture. This may be my favorite showcase for paneer. The dish comes with a rich side sauce that is tasty, but the dish really stands on its own. Balti Baiingen is a mashed eggplant dish that is well seasoned beyond my understanding. I'd recommend it. Utsav keeps the streak going. read more

Utsav is one of the best Indian places in the Hartford area. I have had a lot of Indian food, and the food here is authentic and delicious. The servers were so helpful in making recommendations and accommodating food needs. Definitely need to get the vegetable samosas- however- they do have a bit of a kick to them so if you aren't a fan of spice keep that in mind! Praveen is always so welcoming. He checks each table to be sure everyone is getting a great experience. My husband and I have eaten at several of the Indian restaurants in the area and continue to come back here. The dining area is clean and inviting. The staff are always pleasant. This is a lovely sit-down restaurant with friendly and helpful staff and a lovely decor. My kids loved the fish pond right by the door. The food is freshly prepared, so be prepared to wait a bit. But it's so worth the wait. Everything we got was wonderful! We got samosas to start (one per person is plenty, they're big), then between us we got four different types of curry and a biryani. What a great night out the three of us had!!! Our meal and the service we received were fantastic! We started by sharing the Lasuni Gobi cauliflower which was great. We also had both the Onion and Garlic Naan -- so good. For our meal, we enjoyed Aadu Mappas with added vegetables, Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Saag. What flavor!!! And I enjoyed the Strawberry Lassi while my wife enjoyed a Ginger Beer. For dessert, we had tasty Kheer. The portions were so generous that there was even enough to send our son home with a couple meals. Our entire evening was cozy, fun and delightful. Came here for the first time and it was just delicious. Started with the tawa fried fish we only tried based on other reviews and it was ssoooooo good--- super super spicy but we gobbled it up. Then I got the malai kofta which was so creamy and filling and two others in my party (who had never even eaten Indian food before) got the chicken tikki masala and have not a stopped talking about it lol they are now obsesssed and can't wait to try more Indian food- the staff was great and food amazing- OH the garlic naan. The ambience is great and more spacious then Vernon one. Waiters are courteous and so is the management. As this is Indian restaurant so of course, you ll get to listen to Hindi songs. Coming to food- in the buffet, they provide ample no of variety in veg and non-veg both. What I like is they serve tandoori as sizzlers. Isn't it great...!! This place is legit. My family loves this place and we end up here every time in town. The lunch buffet is solid with the usual items on display. I think they do dosa for the buffet as well. Everything here is on point whether you're looking from vegetarian/dosa to the grilled tandoori meats and gravy dishes. The interior is nice - large, clean, well lit. The staff is very friendly. Was shocked that the Buffet was not being run but as only maybe 4-5 groups were dining I can understand why. We ordered lunch specials of tandoori chicken for her and lamb vindaloo for me. I came here to have dinner with a friend. We were seated immediately. Ended up ordering lasun ki gobi, chicken Tikka, amchuri murgh (based off yelp recs), and 2 naans. The lasun ki gobi aka gobi manchurian came fairly quickly. It was absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend to anyone. We didn't even finish the plate when the chicken Tikka came along. My friend wanted this dish, or else I wouldn't have ordered it in the first place. Comes in a sizzling platter and looks very appetizing - but for me it was dry (preference for meat maybe). Soo this is where things got a bit trippy. We were waiting literally forever for the amchuri murgh to come (15-20 min around). I tried to ask the server, but he didn't come by till later. I saw other tables who came after us were getting their curries. I honesty think they forgot we ordered this. When it did finally come, the murgh was not cooked fully. It was really hard and took a lot of effort with a fork/knife to cut the meat. This was the most disappointing part of the meal which is why I give 3 stars. We told the server, but there was no apology and we still had to pay for it. At the end, the check also took forever to come. I don't think the delay in the dish is the waiters fault, but probably miscommunication or negligence of the kitchen. Overall decent place, certain dishes are better then others. The entire meal cost $53 ... also two naan is a lot of pieces for two people to finish, which is a good thing imo. read more

My boyfriend and I came here one Sunday for the buffet -I really enjoy Indian food but wow there was so much food and it was so filling. We came right at opening so we were like the 3rd group there. The weekend buffet price is $15.95 so pretty reasonably priced. I am not super familiar with all the names of the food -but they had a wide variety of dishes -vegetarian, chicken, fish, lamb, etc. Our waiter came by to give us a basket of Naan, but we weren't even able to finish it all. The food was delicious but so filling -I will have to try to come back for dinner to order a dish so that I can take home leftovers.
