Vegetable Samosas, sorry had already started before taking th picture. Delicious!
    Alex H.

I've been to Utsav in Vernon many times and I feel it is the best Indian food I've eaten stateside. This is a small place with a family owned feel to it. Clean, well kept and welcoming. The staff is always friendly and attentive to their guests. On this visit, we ordered the vegetable samosas which was excellent. My guest is a frequent visitor to Indian restaurants and was surprised at how good they tasted. She ordered the chicken tikka Masala which didn't disappoint. I ordered my favorite, the Lamb Pasanda, which has a creamy cashew and almond sauce which I like with medium heat. I rarely find this dish in other Indian restaurants, so generally order it when I visit here, although when I visit with others we generally share all the dishes and I've enjoyed many of the items on the menu. As a side note, Utsav use to do a great lunch buffet which I would use to introduce friends and family to great Indian food. This ended during the pandemic, but I would love to have them bring this back. I know, shameless plug, but it truly was a great way to try various items on the menu. Overall, I would recommend Utsav as an introduction to Indian food and hospitality to folks looking to try Indian food as well as to those, like me that love the cuisine. Cheers!

The food is Amazing! The service was wonderful! Highly recommend! They were so respectful. We had the chicken tikka masala, vegetable samosas and garlic naan. All phenomenal! We will definitely be back! We had leftovers.. each meal was enough for 2 meals for us! :)

Calamari, spinach cup, and lamb samosa appetizers!

Utsav is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to, hands down! They also specialize in south Indian cuisine, which is rare (as well as offering northern cuisine more commonly found). We ate fantastic lamb dishes, including lamb samosas; fish; calamari, and a spinach cup appetizer with a tomatoey sauce that was out of this world. Drinks are expertly mixed, with an extremely generous pour. The service is at another level entirely, welcoming, prompt, polite, and professional. The highest recommendation, you won't be disappointed!

    Chicken Shahi Korma

I got takeout from here because their reviews were great and I was thoroughly disappointed. The Chicken Tikka Masala was okay, but it was very tomato forward and the flavor was lacking depth and the consistency was odd. While both dishes had a soupy consistency, The Chicken Shahi Korma was basically water. No thickness at all and had almost no flavor. For the price, the food definitely did not live up to it, and both dishes were stingy with the chicken. There are certainly better Indian restaurants in the Hartford area, I will not be coming back and do not reccomend

This was absolutely delicious! The customer service was top tier; friendly and welcoming staff. We loved the colorful design and the traditional music.

Tawa Tamancha! A delicious, healthy Tandoori dish that's relatively new on the menu with fresh grilled veggies and paneer.

Not all Indian foods are spicy, nor are they all based on curry! This is sometimes what I hear when people won't try it. Utsav continues to offer the finest, most authentic Indian food. Their menu is built to bring diners a great selection of dishes for meat/fish eaters, vegetarians and vegans. Spice levels are determined by each customer and the staff is eager to help new diners find meals to suit their tastes. Service is superior!

There not a lot if decor either. The music is authentic and they play Indian MTV. The immediately start you out either a beer pitcher of water. For my drink, I'm having a Limca (you just grab it out of the cooler). Limca is an Indian multinational brand of lemon- and lime-flavoured carbonated soft drink made primarily in India and certain parts of the U.S. It contains 60 calories per 150ml can. The formula does not include fruit, relying instead on artificial flavours. In an interview in 2008, Ramesh Chauhan of Parle Bisleri revealed that he had approached the owners of Duke's Lemonade, requesting them to share the formula for the drink with the promise not to make it in India, which was turned down. Chauhan decided to come up with his own formula, which he launched under the Limca brand in 1977. In 1992, when the Indian government allowed Coca-Cola to return for operations, at the same time as it admitted Pepsi for the first time, Coca-Cola bought local soft-drink (soda) brands, from Parle Bisleri owner Ramesh Chauhan including Limca, Thums Up (a cola-like drink), Maaza (a mango-juice based drink), Citra (a clear lemon-lime drink), and Gold Spot (orange flavour). Prior to 1988, the original formula of Limca contained brominated vegetable oil (BVO). After worldwide reports of ill effects of BVO, its use in soft drinks was banned in India. As a result of this ban, the formula for Limca was changed. This is good (artificially flavored or not). For my soup, I'm having the Chicken Hot and Sour (spicy). This is a popular Indo-Chinese soup made with mixed vegetables, mushrooms, soy sauce, herbs and spices. It has a balanced taste that is spicy, tangy and hot. The soup is usually thickened lightly and flavored with ingredients like ginger, garlic, vinegar and pepper. This is good! It's not too salty. It's hot and spicy. Lots of chicken too (it's small chunks and at the bottom). Ceramic plates and metal silverware. That's a good sign! For my appetizer, I'm having the Chicken Makai Kebabs. Otherwise known as Reshmi kebab, this is [technically] a Pakistani dish of boneless chicken marinated in spices, cream, and cashew paste, and then grilled in a tandoor. The name "reshmi" translates to "silk" and describes the kebab's tender, silky texture. Some recipes use ground chicken and cream cheese to achieve this silky texture, creating a "seekh" kebab instead of a "boti" kebab. Indians make it a lot too. This is a LOT to eat! It's steaming hot! It takes a while to cook so be patient. The spices are defining unusual. I like the Indian version of cole slaw too as a side dish except they use of onion. It's crunchy. Yummy! There is a new place opening up across the mall called Sakura Haven. The new venue plans to feature an anime theme with cosplay, a live DJ, karaoke, and other themed entertainment events. Signs were recently installed at their new space. Sakura Haven has been operating as a pop-up at various bar around Connecticut. The new venue is their first physical location. For my entree, I'm having the Chicken Madras. Chicken Madras is a flavorful, spicy, and tangy Indian curry originating from the southern region of India and the city of Chennai, formerly known as Madras. The dish features chicken in a rich tomato-based sauce made with a unique blend of Madras curry powder, which is a mixture of South Indian herbs and spices. The curry is known for its heat, which comes from chili peppers or paprika, and its tangy, citrusy notes. I'm told they use coconut here. You can add naan but I don't eat a lot of bread. This is steaming hot! I love this sauce! It's not very spicy but I like it! What a great meal here!

My fiancé and I are big Indian fans and love trying new Indian restaurants. We always pass by this…read moreplaza but forgetting that Peppers is here. One Thursday evening we wanted to go out for dinner but didn't have a plan on where. My fiancé was just driving and we saw Peppers and was like, ok, today is the day! The parking lot was decently packed so that was a good sign. Upon entering, we did not realize how large the inside of the restaurant was. Plenty of seating and there was another room on the other side with even more tables. Our waitress asked if we would like to look at their buffet options and after a quick look, we decided to just order off of the dinner menu for our first time. The place was a tad bit warm for my liking, but hopefully that's only because it was 50° outside. I always get the chicken tikka masala when I try new Indian restaurants as a baseline on how I determine if I liked their curry. My fiancé was a bit more adventurous and tried the Karaikudi chicken. We got two orders of naan, the garlic and bullet, and shortly after our food arrived. I went over to wash my hands before feasting and saw there were sinks lined against the wall.. The soap dispenser worked but none of the sinks had running water. So, I headed over to the bathroom, soap in one of my hands. The tikka masala was on the thicker side of what I'm used to, and was not as red compared to other places. I appreciate the light use of red food coloring, but the thickness of the curry kinda threw me off. I also asked for it spicy but this tasted more of a medium level, when I wanted that nose-dripping sweating feeling. I appreciated the amount of chicken that came with it, but it wasn't as fall-apart tender as I would have liked. It also seemed as though this was made in bulk and just scooped out when ordered because it was just warm and not as hot. Not my favorite tikka masala, but I would try another one of their dishes. My fiancé thoroughly enjoyed his Karaikudi chicken. He ordered his as medium spicy but it came out spicier than my dish. His was also a lot hotter in temperature so I enjoyed it more as well. He had a pleasant experience and would return. The naan was the star of the show. I enjoyed the slight crisp and chewiness and it paired well with the curries. I did not appreciate how the hot curries were served in plastic dishes as that is not the best for your health. For something that high in temperature they should consider investing in ceramic dishes. We were also given cheap plastic black dishes to eat on. I was curious about how much the buffet costed so I asked our waitress. I'm not sure if it was her thick accent but I'm pretty sure I heard $49.99 per person. Holy cow. We were there for dinner time but what an incredibly steep price! My fiancé and I ended up spending around $50 with enough food to also take home with us. We cannot justify $50 per person without food to take home. Indian is an incredibly dense and heavy food to consume! I'm really hoping I misheard her, but if that wasn't the case, we wouldn't try their buffet and just order off the normal menu. Overall, we may return to try again. I was pleasantly surprised at the service and ambiance of the place. From our experience, we usually order take out at Indian restaurants because the service is usually lacking, the vibes aren't right, and there's usually a finger in our food as it arrives to our table. The servers had gloves on here and there was an Indian soundtrack playing in the background. Lots of different people were present and service was pretty tentative. Other than the buffet price, I'd say the normal dinner menu's prices were pretty comparable to most others. The service, naan, and my fiancé's dish were a win, and might be enough for us to return on our next Indian night out.

The food was delicious but the service was mediocre at best. We were the only ones eating and…read moreordered lamb vindaloo , tika masala and masala dosa. **Mayabazaar: Creative Concept, Underwhelming Execution**…read more You can't miss the Mayabazaar food truck when you spot it--the exterior is a creative mashup of Indian cinema meets Marvel, with Bollywood and Tollywood actors' faces photoshopped onto the Avengers. It's quirky, fun, and definitely gets your attention. We went in with high hopes and hungry stomachs. Here's where we might have gone wrong: Mayabazaar apparently specializes in South Indian food, but we decided to venture into their Indo-Chinese offerings instead. We ordered chicken fried rice, chicken Hakka noodles, chicken lollypop, and--staying closer to their wheelhouse--South Indian thagubothu chicken. The verdict? Everything was just...meh. Nothing had that standout flavor or quality that would make you think, "I need to drive out of my way for this." We were two families, seven people total, and we sampled what felt like a rainbow of preparations from their menu. The food wasn't bad, per se, but it wasn't memorable either. None of us have made the trip back. Hartford County already has a crowded field of Indian restaurants, each claiming authenticity and trying to carve out their niche. Mayabazaar has real potential--the creative branding shows they're thinking outside the box. But potential only goes so far. The execution needs to match the concept. Maybe we should have stuck with their South Indian specialties instead of the Indo-Chinese route. But when a restaurant offers a diverse menu, everything on it should be worth ordering. For now, Mayabazaar remains just another option in an already saturated market.

Good Indian fare, nice owners, still needs work on the interior…read more Came here for a dinner trek. There was a noodle shop right next door that was okay, and we wanted to give this new place a try as well. The inside is sparse and still rough with construction. The space use to be a açaí bowl location, and they still had some of the signs and decor from that location here. There's also some ripped up flooring and exposed piping in the middle of the floor. Don't plan on dining in unless you can handle some rough corners. The chef/owner was nice but shy, the wife was much more extroverted and very kind. The chef took the order, the wife took care of the interactions and check ins. Missus really enjoyed interfacing with the lady, she enjoys supporting the local businesses that go in with passion. We got the chicken 65, samosa chaat, and chicken khorma. Food came out steadily, and we dug in. The samosa chaat was good. Spiced lightly, but good flavor. The samosa was slightly cold in the middle, but the flavors were there. The chicken 65 was also lightly seasoned but the chicken crisp and tender. Needed a dipping sauce to impart some extra spice. The portion was large and well done. The chicken khorma was great. Tender chicken thigh with a nutty creamy sauce with a little spice. The highlight of our meal. We also got naan, garlic and peshwari. The garlic was good, very garlic forward but the naan seemed to be very thin. There was a lot of rips and holes through the 4 pieces we got. We also got the peahwari naan, which was little light on the filling but has the right flavors. Pricing was reasonable, especially given the quality vs the portion. It's not a dine-in location as of yet, but the food is perfect for to-go. It's good Indian done well, needs to work on the spice level of their dishes but it's ideal for those who don't like heat. Our waitress was very nice and gave us plenty of time to dig through their rather large menu. One thing I appreciated was that while our waitress was attentive, checking in periodically to see if we had decided, she didn't rush us to make a decision. We settled on trying the onion pakoda and the chilly shrimp but there wasn't anything chilly about it. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it but the chilly shrimp was covered in a sort of Indian general Tso sauce, which was delicious. It had a nice kick to it. We discovered that combining the shrimp and fried onion was an excellent pairing. Also I highly recommend trying the mango lassi, such a refreshing way to cap off some heat from the sauce. We ordered butter chicken, chicken Tikka masala, and a side of garlic Naan. I generally don't do carbs so I had Naan of it.... I'm sorry. Any who our food came out in a reasonable time and I wasn't disappointed. It was quite good, the only thing I'd say is that we ordered our dishes with medium spice and there wasn't much spice to it. If you're a fan of spicy food maybe give the high spice level a try and order a mango lassi to help with the heat. But generally the food was good. The only other minor gripes was it was kind of chilly, in the restaurant. Usually the cold doesn't bother me but I was noticing it and my poor girlfriend had to wear extra layers while we ate. Aside from these things it was a nice experience, the food was good, the service was great, and I'd visit again if I were in the area. Check them out if you like Indian food.
