Chicken Tikka Masala
Queenie H.

My fiancé and I are big Indian fans and love trying new Indian restaurants. We always pass by this plaza but forgetting that Peppers is here. One Thursday evening we wanted to go out for dinner but didn't have a plan on where. My fiancé was just driving and we saw Peppers and was like, ok, today is the day! The parking lot was decently packed so that was a good sign. Upon entering, we did not realize how large the inside of the restaurant was. Plenty of seating and there was another room on the other side with even more tables. Our waitress asked if we would like to look at their buffet options and after a quick look, we decided to just order off of the dinner menu for our first time. The place was a tad bit warm for my liking, but hopefully that's only because it was 50° outside. I always get the chicken tikka masala when I try new Indian restaurants as a baseline on how I determine if I liked their curry. My fiancé was a bit more adventurous and tried the Karaikudi chicken. We got two orders of naan, the garlic and bullet, and shortly after our food arrived. I went over to wash my hands before feasting and saw there were sinks lined against the wall.. The soap dispenser worked but none of the sinks had running water. So, I headed over to the bathroom, soap in one of my hands. The tikka masala was on the thicker side of what I'm used to, and was not as red compared to other places. I appreciate the light use of red food coloring, but the thickness of the curry kinda threw me off. I also asked for it spicy but this tasted more of a medium level, when I wanted that nose-dripping sweating feeling. I appreciated the amount of chicken that came with it, but it wasn't as fall-apart tender as I would have liked. It also seemed as though this was made in bulk and just scooped out when ordered because it was just warm and not as hot. Not my favorite tikka masala, but I would try another one of their dishes. My fiancé thoroughly enjoyed his Karaikudi chicken. He ordered his as medium spicy but it came out spicier than my dish. His was also a lot hotter in temperature so I enjoyed it more as well. He had a pleasant experience and would return. The naan was the star of the show. I enjoyed the slight crisp and chewiness and it paired well with the curries. I did not appreciate how the hot curries were served in plastic dishes as that is not the best for your health. For something that high in temperature they should consider investing in ceramic dishes. We were also given cheap plastic black dishes to eat on. I was curious about how much the buffet costed so I asked our waitress. I'm not sure if it was her thick accent but I'm pretty sure I heard $49.99 per person. Holy cow. We were there for dinner time but what an incredibly steep price! My fiancé and I ended up spending around $50 with enough food to also take home with us. We cannot justify $50 per person without food to take home. Indian is an incredibly dense and heavy food to consume! I'm really hoping I misheard her, but if that wasn't the case, we wouldn't try their buffet and just order off the normal menu. Overall, we may return to try again. I was pleasantly surprised at the service and ambiance of the place. From our experience, we usually order take out at Indian restaurants because the service is usually lacking, the vibes aren't right, and there's usually a finger in our food as it arrives to our table. The servers had gloves on here and there was an Indian soundtrack playing in the background. Lots of different people were present and service was pretty tentative. Other than the buffet price, I'd say the normal dinner menu's prices were pretty comparable to most others. The service, naan, and my fiancé's dish were a win, and might be enough for us to return on our next Indian night out.

The food was delicious but the service was mediocre at best. We were the only ones eating and ordered lamb vindaloo , tika masala and masala dosa. The first two dishes came out fairly quickly but the dosa didn't come out till my two friends were almost done with their meal. We had to hunt the waitress down and asked twice before they brought it over. If you want flavorful Indian food just bring your patience!

The portion of $20 meal.

I ordered butter chicken through DoorDash. It was quite delicious but for $19.99 we got the finest container. The garlic naan was also delicious but again, for one small piece cut in half - $6 dollars - I don't know. The prices are inflated - I've been to plenty of places where their portions are much better & even lower prices.

Pretty solid indian food, decent decor, reasonable pricing. Being familar with Kumar's before it, and the eastern pizza co beside it, I was interested to see what has changed from the last time I've been to this location. First off, they didn't change any of the decor from Kumars. If you been there when they were Kumar's, they kept all of it. Not a detractor, but besides the name change there isn't much that has changed there. The server was kind, took our orders and offered advice on the menu. I asked for him to bring the heat on the chicken 55, wanted to rue the day I was born. We got samosa's to share, along with a couple naans and some curry to see how their standard fare comes out. Food came out pretty quickly. I will admit that food service always seems to be pretty quick at these smaller locations. We took pics and dug in. The Chicken 55 and fried jalepeno bites were the weak parts of the meal. The coating on the peppers was a thick chickpea shell which was very crunchy but seasoned. The jalepenos didn't provide any heat, and the peppers were mush from the inside. They were probably frozen, but not the best bite. The chicken 55 was only hot in temperature, unfortunately being incinerated and overcooked. There was a good amount of dried peppers mixed in, but they didn't have time to rehydrate and impart that heat into the dish itself. So it wasn't hot. The Samosas were also somewhat basic. No spices in the filling, mostly came off as a chickpea mash in the middle of a pastry wrapper. Not bad, just nothing special either. The rest of the meal came out pretty good though. The curry had perfectly cooked chicken and a flavorful gravy, some earthy spice notes, a good amount of heat, and just a little of the tomato acidic bite. With the lightly fragranced and super light basmati, it was a good bite. I also enjoyed their naan, soft and fluffy. I don't think they do a good job with their stuffing though. The server really overhyped the heat level of the bullet naan we got, but once again we didn't get heat. Overall, as an indian place this one has the promise to be great. Right now, there's some tweaks that need to be done to bring them to the higher levels but it's good for the area. They need to be bolder in their flavors, reduce the acid bite of the tomatoes with maybe a tiny bit of baking soda. Don't overpromise or hype up a dish, and be a little careful with the oil temps if you're using a fryer.

Chaat area

This is one of the very largest Indian buffets we have been to in our area. There is a small Chaat table with about 4 items plus two soups. Around the cornor there is a U shape buffet area with at least 25 different hot roll-top buffet units. The vast majority of items on display originate from the South, everything is beautifully presented and maintained at perfect temps. Overall this was a good experience there were, however; several selection that I felt were overly salty. The food was tasty but there are a few other buffets we attend that are smaller and the food we feel is better there . A large selection of items is difficult to execute and is reflected in a higher price approximately $25/ person is what you should expect to pay at Peppers. Peppers is worth a stop as you will be introduced to many new items perhaps you haven't seen before. There are some exceptional items on this buffet just not enough of them to push the review above 3 stars.

Food was delicious, and we got to try some things we've never had before. The service was great and attentive even on a busy night. The food was prepared to perfect spice level requested. Looking forward to coming back to try the buffet! Thanks!

Since covid restrictions lifted, we've resumed dining out but somehow forgot about Utsav. We remembered yesterday and last night we finally returned. I am very pleased to report that Utsav is still as great as ever! The food is still exceptionally good and the service is still excellent. We were the last couple left in the restaurant and rather than try to hurry us out, one of the owners and chef, Thankachan Joseph a/k/a Joe, came out of the kitchen and joined us in engaging conversation about Indian cuisine and his restaurant. It truly was a most enjoyable dining experience! If you haven't dined at Utsav or if you just haven't gone recently, you owe it to yourself to go and enjoy delicious Indian cuisine, in delightfully colorful surroundings with excellent service. If you're lucky, maybe you'll even get to meet and talk with Joe.

I wasn't thrilled but decided to give them another chance. This time dine-in. Service was good, food was decent, but I thought the prices on the menu were a bit high for a small place with minimum ambiance in a strip mall in Vernon. What really shocked me was that the prices on my bill were not the same as the prices on the menu. Entrees were $1.50 more and sides were $1.00 higher. No mention of it on the menu, by the server, or posted anywhere in the restaurant. Not huge differences - 6 to 15% increases, but I feel a bit ripped off to be shown one price and charged another. I know the restaurant reserves the right to change prices at any time without notice. I reserve the right to go somewhere else.

The dining area here is REAL small (like 6-7 tables). The music is authentic. They play Indian music videos and shows on the TV screen. For my drink, I'm having a Thums Up Abhishek. Thums Up is India's leading homegrown cola brand, known for its bold, intense, slightly spicy flavor profile and strong carbonation. Originally launched by Parle in 1977 after Coca-Cola exited the country, the brand was later acquired by The Coca-Cola Company in 1993, where it eventually grew to become a multi-billion-dollar market leader. Cricketer Abhishek Sharma stars in Thums Up's "Aaj Kuch Toofani Karte Hai" 2026 campaign alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant. The high-energy campaign highlights explosive play and features limited-edition player cans. This tastes like a less sugary Coke. It's only 10 grams. For my first item, I'm having the Chicken Hot and Sour Soup. Indian hot and sour soup is a popular Indo-Chinese dish that is an "Indianized" version of the traditional Chinese soup, known for its vibrant red color and a distinct balance of spicy, sour, and savory flavors. There's a lot that goes (or can go) into this. That's why it's $7. This is a good-sized portion (between a cup and a bowl). It's piping hot too. It's quite good! It's extra spicy (per my request) and not super salty. It's not as thick as the Chinese version. I like it! This is good! It's pretty spicy too! They give you an entire bottle of ice water. Next up, I'm getting a Sambar (off menu). Sambar is a South Indian lentil and vegetable stew, known for its tangy, savory, and spicy flavor. It is made with toor dal (pigeon peas), a variety of vegetables, tamarind broth, and a special spice blend called sambar powder. Sambar is a staple in South Indian cuisine and is commonly served with idli, dosa, vada, or steamed rice. They normally served it with a dosa or rice but I declined it. Damn! This is hot and yummy! It's like a soup. Not so spicy. For my main meal, I'm having the Lamb Pasanda. Pasanda is a rich, mild, and creamy South Asian curry made with yogurt, cream, and ground nuts like almonds or cashews. Originating from the royal Mughal courts, its name comes from the word pasandemeaning "favourite". It is similar to a korma but features a distinctive nutty flavor and a slightly tangy yogurt depth. It tasted similar to Jamaican (chicken) curry. What a great meal here!

It was so good that i got it twice in one week! Chili chicken was also great, and he manchurian noodles were tasty as well My only complaint is that the dosa we got was not as crispy; however, that could largely have been because we did take out and the dosa sat in a styrofoam bin. It's typically made with pigeon pea lentils (toor dal), tamarind, vegetables, and a fragrant spice blend known as sambar powder. The dish is often tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and dried red chilies. Sambar is known for its rich, aromatic flavors and diverse variations across different regions. This is a bit spicy and very salty but I one it! Next up, I'm having a [vegetarian] samosa. A samosa is a crispy, fried pastry that originated in the Middle East and is popular in South Asian and West Asian cuisine. The savory snack is made with a pastry-like crust and can be filled with spiced potatoes, peas, onions, meat, or fish. The filling can be spicy or sweet, and the shape varies by region, sometimes triangular, crescent, or cone-shaped. It is often served with a couple sauces. These are good! The light green one is called a green chutney. Green chutney is the most common sauce served with samosas, which is made with a combination of cilantro and mint. Other options include mango chutney, tamarind chutney, tomato chutney, or raita, which is a yogurt-based sauce. This can be a bit spicy. The brown one is a tamarind sauce. Tamarind sauce, often used in Thai and Indian cuisines, is a condiment made from the pulp of the tamarind fruit, known for its unique tangy, sweet, and slightly sour flavor profile. Gongura, also known as sorrel or roselle, is a leafy green vegetable with a tangy flavor, commonly used in South Indian cuisine, particularly in Andhra Pradesh, to make chutneys, pickles, and curries. It's boneless, well seasoned and mixed in with purple onions and green bell peppers. Be sure to add the lemon! This is fantastic! Easy to eat and very light. For dessert, I'm the Carrot Halwa. Gajar ka halwa, also known as gajar halwa, is a beloved North Indian dessert of grated carrots cooked down into a pudding-like consistency with milk, sugar, cardamom, and sometimes ghee. The word gajar means "carrot" in Hindi, and halwa refers to the porridge-like texture. This sweet treat is often made during the winter months when red carrots are plentiful, and can be served warm or cold as a snack or dessert. This is a low cholesterol, delicious dessert! BEST! 5- Food Truck?…read moreRestaurants are on notice ... this food truck is out to take your business. The food here bridges the gap between "restaurant" and "home" Indian food. Bold flavors that also allow subtle aromatics to shine! No wonder the people in line came from Worcester, MA to Manchester, CT just for this food. Beats 90% of the Indian fare in CT. And I only say 90% to reserve for others I haven't yet tried.

**Mayabazaar: Creative Concept, Underwhelming Execution**…read more You can't miss the Mayabazaar food truck when you spot it--the exterior is a creative mashup of Indian cinema meets Marvel, with Bollywood and Tollywood actors' faces photoshopped onto the Avengers. It's quirky, fun, and definitely gets your attention. We went in with high hopes and hungry stomachs. Here's where we might have gone wrong: Mayabazaar apparently specializes in South Indian food, but we decided to venture into their Indo-Chinese offerings instead. We ordered chicken fried rice, chicken Hakka noodles, chicken lollypop, and--staying closer to their wheelhouse--South Indian thagubothu chicken. The verdict? Everything was just...meh. Nothing had that standout flavor or quality that would make you think, "I need to drive out of my way for this." We were two families, seven people total, and we sampled what felt like a rainbow of preparations from their menu. The food wasn't bad, per se, but it wasn't memorable either. None of us have made the trip back. Hartford County already has a crowded field of Indian restaurants, each claiming authenticity and trying to carve out their niche. Mayabazaar has real potential--the creative branding shows they're thinking outside the box. But potential only goes so far. The execution needs to match the concept. Maybe we should have stuck with their South Indian specialties instead of the Indo-Chinese route. But when a restaurant offers a diverse menu, everything on it should be worth ordering. For now, Mayabazaar remains just another option in an already saturated market.

Then I also ordered a goat biryani and Philly cheesesteaks grinder. I was asked which cheese I wanted on the grinder and I said mozzarella. Also if I want everything on it and I said yes. In about 20 min it was ready to take home. It all smelled great piping hot. The pizza was great but the menu said meat lovers. I could only see the halal pepperoni and cut up sausage and some few bits of maybe Turkey? No ground beef but just mostly two kinds of meat toppings carefully spread out and not really layered or loaded. I didn't complain for $17.99 because it was halal and during Ramadan. It was very tasty though. The crust was perfect. The sauce was great with Italian spices and flavor. The large size was plenty for my husband and I. The goat biryani looked plain and I missed not getting any raita. It's very pricey for $15 and had I noticed that I wouldn't have ordered it. Luckily it was not too oily and had mildly spiced tender pieces of goat and some bone meat pieces. Some would say it was not spicy enough and didn't have the masala of a typical biryani. I would say this was more of a pulao. The grinder had fresh veggies and bread was good and also fresh. But I looked and was so disappointed to see not a lot of pastrami! Not at all a thick layer like grinders at other places have piled on. I opened it up to see and realized that I would need at least a triple amount of meat that was in there. The pastrami was tasty and fresh but really way too thin of a layer of meat to make a good grinder. Then it was too much bread and not balanced out with the fillings inside. All in all, I would just order a pizza next time and ask for extra meat. Also this place is located next to a halal grocery market, Asian grocery, so you can shop while you wait.
