Many years ago, I worked in Woodbridge and came to know the Reo Diner well. It stands as a classic New Jersey diner with deep local roots and a strong identity as a Woodbridge staple. With its extensive menu, long hours, and comfort-food focus, it has been a go-to spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for generations. Whenever I travel through New Jersey, I always make a point of having at least one Taylor Ham (the local slang for any brand of pork roll) meal. I especially love how Jersey diners serve it with sunny-side-up eggs laid right on top. I had visited my hometown the day before and was spending part of Sunday in Woodbridge before heading out later in the day. I decided to stop in for a late-morning Sunday breakfast. It had snowed the night before, but the streets and parking lot were well cleared. I walked in and sat at the counter. The waitress poured excellent diner coffee and took my order. Before long, my breakfast arrived: sunny-side-up eggs over pork roll, a generous portion of home fries, and rye toast. Everything was delicious and exactly what I was hoping for. The atmosphere is pure Jersey diner. There's even a celebrity photo gallery near the cash register area--and yes, you still get your check at the counter or table and pay on your way out. It was an excellent meal enjoyed on a crisp winter day in a classic New Jersey town with late-Victorian and early-20th-century railroad roots. A great meal on a great day. read more

We all know what to expect from a diner experience..so I will tell you that REO has the staples of a good diner with the addition of super fast and polite service. Which you usually do not expect from a packed diner. The inside is clean and typical 50's style decor. The food is good, but I just a burger. However, burgers are the most ordered item..so it is a good litmus test for a diner. The burger itself was good size 10oz patty and cooked to order (medium). The bun was soft and fresh too. It's a one and done for me. The customer service here is lackinggggg. From the half greeter at the door to the waitress, so disappointing. Why am I as a customer giving what you should be giving. It's free to smile people:( The actual establishment appears clean, diner vibes, booths, comfortable for all and the bathrooms are clean. On to the food; the buffalo wings were 6/10, they don't come covered in sauce but that's ok, everyone makes wings differently. My husband enjoyed his chicken parm aside from the watery sauce, he said it was good. My youngest enjoyed her chicken fingers and fries, she rated it a 9/10. I sent my steak and eggs back because it wasn't good, wasn't med well and just wasn't. Server didn't seem pleased but she removed it off of our bill. Came here for a casual breakfast/lunch and it was pretty solid overall. I got the Hungry Man Option B -- the pancakes were fluffy and tasty, and the butter was nicely whipped which added a nice touch. The turkey bacon was cooked well, though I personally wish it had been crispier. The sausage didn't do much for me, but I'm not the biggest sausage fan so take that with a grain of salt. Scrambled eggs were pretty standard. Others at the table had burgers -- one got the cheeseburger which was just okay, nothing too special. Another had the Fiesta Burger and said it was a solid, classic burger. Service was fine and seating was decent. Tea and coffee were average, pretty much what you'd expect from any diner. One thing to note -- no avocado on the menu, which was a little disappointing for those who like it with breakfast. The bathroom was surprisingly nice and clean, but heads up: there's a small bump right as you walk in that blends in with the floor -- easy to trip over if you're not paying attention. Had the pleasure of stopping here for some coffee, which was pretty much what you'd expect. Good! I ended up getting the Italiano Panini and my girlfriend a Mexican Breakfast Wrap. These too were pretty alright along with the great service. NOW, I'm not a wuss or anything but I guess since the halloween season is coming around they decorated the restaurant accordingly. This was honestly very scary for me as I was eating to look up and see a floating demon that was PROBABLY haunting my food. Im getting goosebumps just THINKING about it. This diner is my go-to best place to eat once-a-week for dinner. Relatively new to Jersey. Live in Woodbridge Township. This place is easy to drive to and has ample parking lot spaces. I and my companion enjoy eating at the Reo mostly for "our" favorite waitress, Merry who works evening shifts on Thursday & Friday and morning/early afternoon shifts on Saturday & Sunday. She is extremely attentive, always has our preferred soda fountain drink ready for us and has a lovely disposition. A real people-person. You should ask for her. She's great. If you are not satisfied with how your food is cooked, just let her know and she'll have it redone to your specifications. I don't really understand, when people do reviews, why they complain about under- or over-cooked food, they don't say something to their waiter. We've had other female wait staff who have also been very nice and good at their jobs. One of my favorite entrees is the Chicken Marsala over linguini. The sauce is tasty, the marinated chicken pieces and large mushrooms plentiful, and the pasta perfectly cooked. Really, with either a salad or soup and rolls, it's very filling and well worth the cost ($17.95). Also delicious is the Chicken Francaise, in which you get 3 large pieces of sauteed chicken, and the Sliced London Broil. Have the latter with sweet potato fries. Yummy. These dishes always come out hot. The overall ambiance of the diner is pleasant. We are usually greeted at the door by Adele (the older woman) who also handles the cash register and who wishes us a pleasant good evening when we leave. Lately, perhaps due to the very cold weather, the diner hasn't been too crowded or busy which is a shame. Won't stop me and my friend from going, however. I can't comment on the breakfast or lunch items yet. If and when I do eat at the Reo earlier in the day, I'll post another review. read more

Finally stopped into this neighborhood staple after driving by it for years, and we were not disappointed. Food: let me start by saying, I'm basing my review off of diner food. Yes, you will get better pancakes for double the price a "brunch spot" but everything here hit the spot and was delicious diner food. The pancakes were fluffy with a slight crisp, turkey triple decker was great with moist turkey breast, eggs cooked perfectly, perfextly crisp bacon and delicious onion rings. All for a great price. Service: our server was great. She checked on us multiple times and our food came out quickly. Ambiance: this spot gives you classic diner vibes with a bit of a modern feel. It doesn't have that sticky carpet that many diners do, and that was nice to see. Overall, great spot for a quick bite or a classic club sandwich. 100% will be back! read more

Excellent diner experience on the road with a larger group where everyone was happy and even myself, the largest eater of the group, had to have a to go box. Very nice service here, and very speedy. We were sat and got our waters and drinks quickly. The Fat Sandwich line immediately caught my eye and I was looking for a Greek fair, so the Fat Alex was a must. Chicken tender on top of shawarma meet with tzatziki sauce, lettuce and tomato - WOW. Huge sandwich that was even better the next day. The folks that got burgers were happy, my friend got a chicken gyro and was happy, and we even got a slice of cheesecake and that was the move. The Greek salad I had was a mid-size salad bowl of crisp greens, with cuke slices and tomatoes as expected. I forgot to ask for dressing on the side, so of course it was a wet salad, but for the price I can't complain much. Menu said anchovies but it came without any. Our server went back to the kitchen right away and came out with a little cup of them for me, so can't complain there either. My husband had a decent vegetable panini. The diner has been there as long as I can remember it and has served not only my generation, but generations prior and they continue to feed this community to this day. There is nothing like a Jersey diner. New Jersey is the diner capital of the world and rightfully so. The Reo Diner is a great part of the diner scene in the Garden State. My go-to at a diner is the pizza burger deluxe and I would recommend the pizza burger deluxe here. You honestly cannot go wrong with this culinary wonder. The breakfast items are good recommendations here, as well. Service is good. Great servers that only make the experience better. The Reo Diner has been a wonderful part of my memories and it is still a great spot to meet with friends when I am visiting New Jersey. I would definitely recommend here and I give it five stars. read more

Horrible Customer Service, Horrible experience with takeout as well. All of our items were missing the Gravy's and Pasta with No Sauce. Nothing on the side either. Call them to let them know and had a defensive attitude and would rather be argumentative. The food quality here is akin to a cafeteria at your local hospital. It is definitely lacking the freshness and quality of proteins that you will find in many other diners throughout the state. Our experience was very disappointing. All the food was dry, Turkey and Steak needed that gravy trust me! Pasta was a brick of cheese and Pasta all together. Wings are a joke, No Sauce. Vegetables are canned and reheated. Food had no flavor. Had a cup of matzoh ball soup that was okay on a cold day. Ordered corned beef on rye that the menu said comes with Cole slaw and pickles while for other sandwiches it had to be requested. Mine came without and had to ask. Also asked for mustard. No deli mustard here just a bottle of guldens. Corned beef was very dry and flavorless. No free refills on soft drinks. Wife had an omelette that was also lacking in flavor. I come from a family business and currently own a food business of my own. i am not one to talk negative unless deserved and usually keep my mouth shut. however, food is my passion and i thrive on great service and food. This place food Quality is poor. the bacon is possibly the cheapest bacon you can buy from restaurant depot. the home fries have no taste. i get some people like their home fries plan but at least buy quaintly potatoes and not cheap ones. finally, i asked over over medium eggs and not runny eggs. there's a difference. i would stay away from this place. $42 down the drain. read more

For my review of this establishment. The hostess was very nice. We did not have to wait for someone to greet us upon arrival and we were seated quickly. The parking lot looked very full so I thought there was a wait. Once we were seated our waitress greated us and served our drinks. Coffee and a Coke. After awhile of just checking my surrounding this establishment serve PEPSI. Some people don't care, but some people do. If the waitress expressed it was Pepsi when I asked for Coke I would have ordered another type of drink. The food came out fairly uick and I wasn't happy with the soup or toasted pit bread. I know motza ball is usually served with chicken broth, but I had it with chicken soup. The menu claims they make the soup fresh daily. Well you can tell my soup was not made fresh and the pita bread was lightly toasted and yet had soggy. I hope the next time I visit will be different read more

The Reo is a very middle ground NJ diner. It's very much the average of what you'd expect from a diner in NJ. I've done breakfast recently and the western omelette was good. They cook the ham, onions, and peppers ahead of time so they get a little browning. I definitely prefer this to places adding them in raw and it staying too crunchy. Last visit I gave one of their "fat" sandwiches a try. Had the Fat Al (chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, and marinara sauce) and the disco fries (gravy and mozzarella sauce) as my side. Sandwich was ok. Tenders and the mozzarella sticks were tasty, I'm guessing the marinara is a standard jarred sauce. You might want to eat it sort of quickly since the roll isn't too substantial and can get soggy. Disco fries were also ok. Fries themselves and the cheese were good, though the gravy is a bit on the paste-y side. I'd go back but wouldn't say it's necessarily my first choice diner with so many around. read more

I got food poisoning twice at the Reo Diner after eating Chicken Tenders and a Hamburger well done. The food is not as good as it used to be. My neighbor got sick after eating eggs there. When I complained about my burger the waitress said it was because I got it well done. The service is not as good as it used to be.
