The Superior diner has reopened under new ownership, but unfortunately, the experience has significantly declined. The prices are exorbitantly high, and the quality of the food is very quite poor. To be frank, it was unpleasant. The fries were undercooked and soggy. I opted for a turkey bacon and egg sandwich, as it was the least expensive option available. I had suggested to my family that we leave, but they were reluctant to appear impolite. I was eager to depart. The sandwich featured a well-cooked egg, undercooked bacon, and was served on an overly sweet roll, which resembled a hamburger bun (small). It was priced at $8.00, yet it came with no additional sides. My spouse ordered a Reuben sandwich, which also came with fries that were soggy and undercooked, priced at $18.99. My son chose a medium-well burger, but it arrived more on the rare side, and the fries were equally soggy, uncooked and unappetizing. The total for our meals, NOT excluding the tip, amounted to $56.23. My son barely touched his burger or the fries, while my husband consumed half of his Reuben but left the fries untouched. I took only two bites of my sandwich before deciding not to eat any more. My son had a coffee, and my husband ordered a Sprite. I had water. In summary, I will NOT be returning to this establishment. Had breakfast today and it was their first Sunday since reopening and they appear to working out the kinks. Carlos was gracious and our server Becca was attentive. Service was slow but the food was on point. I had a Monte Kristo and she had the breakfast Tacos. The toco's needed a better presentation. Superior Diner New Owners! So excited that it remained a diner! We go to other towns to eat, since Perth Amboy does not have diversity in restaurants. So this is good that they opened! Always visited this diner when in Perth Amboy. Found new management re-opened and went there 3/27 with my Wife. Found menu was limited choices and the prices higher than before. Wife ordered usual 2 egg plate with bacon and homefries well done. Home fries were minces inot as ordered and bacon was stuck to one another and place on top, bad presentation. I asked if sausages were the big links like before and waitress said yes, but went for a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich $8 as the plate was too high. Found the sausages were more like chirizo and were burnt, so I picked them out. Didn't complain as was pressed for time. Had to track down waitress for refill on coffee. Atmosphere: The Superior Diner is an older, cobblestone building. It's not a big, shiny, metallic building, but it stands out along the road. The inside of the Superior Diner has plenty of booths, tables, and a full-length bar. Coffee: The Superior Diner coffee was brewed hot and fresh and the waitress refilled it often. Good coffee, no complaints. Food: The menu is huge and there are plenty of breakfast, lunch, and dinner specials. In fact, the Superior Diner menu has the most specials of any diner I've been to in a while. I didn't know what I wanted but then saw the pork chop special and ultimately decided that's what I wanted. I've ordered diner specials a lot lately because they are cheaper and with more food! Anyway, the pork chop special came with soup, salad, and the meal. For my soup, I chose the lima bean soup. It was a red base with a little kick to it. I've never had lima bean soup and it was great. The salad was typical of a diner salad with nothing unique or unusual about it. The pork chops were delicious and were cooked well.  They weren't overcooked and were tender and juicy -- one of the better diner pork chops I've had recently. For my sides, I chose beets and they were good as well. Nothing unique or unusual, but they tasted good. Service: Our waitress at the Superior Diner was friendly and our food came out fast. She was one of the better waitresses I've had recently. There was another waitress who was holding loud conversations and it made it hard to hear anything. Very cute, quaint diner. This small diner on this main road in Perth Amboy is the perfect place to stop for a quick bite. My friends and I stopped in around 1pm and had some lunch. The waitress was very friendly and attentive to our table. The food was unlike I expected. My friends got the burger specials and I got the tuna salad sandwich and was pleasantly surprised by the freshness of the food not only mine but of my friends. Superior Diner visit was my first time to eat at a local restaurant in the Perth Amboy area. Was welcomed and immediately seated. Our waitress Susan "Sue" was very patient and pleasing. We looked over the menu while not very busy it was very comfortable and inviting. After trying to decide on meals we ended up ordering... Corn beef and cabbage dinner with salad, soup and dessert. Florentine Omelet with spinach and feta. Corn beef hash with 2 eggs over-easy and home fries "pan fried potato chunks" 2 griddle cakes scrambled cheese eggs and sausage links It was ALL absolutely delicious. I took photos of the new menu and posted them for others as Superior Diner does lack an online menu or website however what they lack for social media they make up in portion sizes, service and perfectly priced meals. This is your standard New Jersey hometown diner. Nothing fancy...but solid food, very friendly service, and homey atmosphere.

I'm finding it hard to say what was superior about this place. Maybe the superior water stains on the drop ceiling tiles or the superior smell of mothballs that filled our nostrils throughout the meal. This place is small with limited parking in the front, but luckily at noon on a Sunday there was not many people there. Bad sign. I had a sausage, cheese and potato omelet. Wife went Belgium waffle. They do not have real maple syrup. The sausage in my omelet had next to no flavor, which is too bad because there was a generous amount of sausage in there. The eggs themselves were overcooked, which is normally ok and saved with a bit of ketchup, but the ketchup was thin and tasted weird. I'm a heinz or nothing ketchup guy, and something was just off. I didn't try my wife's waffle, but did try the side of thin and awful bacon. Gross. Coffee was strong and good. That's about all. No more traveling to crappy towns to check out local diners for me. read more

Atmosphere: 8/10. Great diner atmosphere, traditional news on the television. The waitress I had was very welcoming, and was always quick to fill up my coffee. I stayed there after my meal for almost an hour just reading and doing some work on the computer. The only negative was an iffy location, but overall a great diner atmosphere. Menu/pricing: 9/10. Expansive diner menu with an array of daily specials, all prices very reasonably. Food: 9/10. I met up with a friend for brunch and since I work in the area, I suggested the Superior Diner (based on the good rating!) This is your typical Jersey diner with the classic breakfast offerings and set-up. We both had omelettes and they were both good, but I thought they took longer than the usual "diner time" to come out, especially since we were there on a weekday and it wasn't that crowded. Also, they never brought us out water, but that may have been because we both had juice (though they did refill my coffee about 3 times!) Stopped by with a co-worker during lunch hour and had breakfast. When we were seated we noticed the table was dirty because someone had spilled salt/sugar all over the table. Our waitress came over and starting placing the napkins and silverware on the table without noticing it. We had to ask her to get a rag. No apology. When we ordered our coffee and water, she went to the table in front of us before she realized she had the wrong table. I had the blueberry pancakes with a side of turkey sausage and my co-worker had an omelette. While we were waiting for our meals we could here our waitress and another waitress talking about how our waitress was being verbally abused by someone and that she should get a restraining order. The other waitress then became friendly with the table in front of us and started showing them her tattoos. The waitress, probably in her 50's, lifted the back of her shirt up to show her tattoos and then lowered the front of her shirt to expose more tattoos. WOW! Neither waitress was professional. When our food came, our waitress put the food down in front of the wrong person so we had to switch. Our waitress was very distracted. I have to admit my pancakes were tasty. They were 3 large pancakes with lots of fresh blueberries. The turkey sausage were 4 links but bland. The bathrooms were clean but from the 1980's. The water stains on the ceiling were tough to ignore. If I didn't have the side show and the drama that was affecting my waitress, I would have had a better review. read more

My mom recommended this diner as being good and cheap. The way diners used to be and should be. Many diners are gaudily decorated and have way too many frills that just drive prices up. I do not go to a diner for ambience,decor or top service. I go to a diner for an inexpensive meal, served fast and cheap. Anyway, this place is so low key and plain looking it's easy to pass by it. And that's the only downside you will read in this review. They have a lot of specials and whole complete dinners for $10 or less. I had the meatloaf platter which was out of this world. Served on a hard roll with gravy and fries. Cole slaw and pickle on the side with a cup of clam chowder. For $8.65! What a deal. And it was GOOD. My wife had the same. My dad had the fish and chips. My mom had the roast beef. My son had chicken fingers and my daughter had a hotdog. Everybody had fries and sodas. The adults had soup too. We all had puddings and ice cream for dessert too. The total with tax and 18% gratuity=$61.00. Fantastic. Everything was hot and fresh and delicious. I can't wait to try this place for breakfast!
