Review is only in regards to Table Massage. First, I'm a female and my massage was done by a male without them asking if that was okay. There were many awkward moments. Second, Language barrier... The massage guy and myself had difficulty in what he was trying to explain me needing to move a body part or flip over. Third, and most importantly 90% was purely elbows being used to massage. The place is called Relax and my massage was far from it. You just can't relax from elbow pressure on everything. The 10% of no elbow was very good. I thought I was getting a relaxing massage but nope. read more

I've been a customer since they started at Barton Springs Mall and followed them to the present location. Best case scenario - you get a great massage for a good price Worst case scenario - Your masseuse is doubling as the "receptionist." He or she will be distracted very time the phone rings or the door chimes. They'll think nothing of stopping in the middle of the massage to deal with some customers and pick up where they left off. Chatting among themselves while working on customers is another distraction I try and over look but when you have the 'receptionist' and he's already giving you a horrible soft massage because he's distracted and now he's talking, it's just too much. You end up leaving more stressed than when you arrived, as if that was even possible. I used to bring friends from out of town, 4-5 people at a time but had to stop because someone in the group always got the "receptionist" and had a bad massage. The 'worst case scenario' happened about 9 months ago. Today, I decided to give the place another try. Again, I got the "receptionist," the doorbell rang about every 60 seconds and he couldn't stop talking to his co-worker. Chances are you will have a great massage but become a regular customer and sooner or later you will get the "receptionist massage," you'll remember this review and know exactly what I'm talking about. Since the guy today was a cocky little so and so, I'm putting this place on ice for now. read more

I'm giving this place one star based on me and my girl's experience. We both got a 45 min table massage, and felt wierd from the get go. First off, it's over the clothes, maybe I've been a bit spoiled before, but that's what yelp is for right? My last spa experience was at Burke Williams in San Francisco, which was full service (steam room, sauna, etc..), and was fantastic, and I didn't expect as much here of course, but.. So we didn't get an option of male or female technician, and I ended up with an old (Chinese?) man, who tore me up. I'd say a good third of my massage was focused on my butt, even tho I requested more focus on my upper back and neck. The rest of my body that he worked on was just harsh honestly. He ended it with death pinches and a few slaps on my back and shoulder. I came out of this more tense than when I went in. My girlfriend wanted to end it 10 minutes in. She felt uncomfortable with the hippie dude breathing super loud, and after asking for a lighter touch he still went at her pretty rough. At one point he actually put his fingers IN her hears, the proceeded to her face. Not very sanitary? Same as me, she's more tense coming out. She's just to sweet and polite to have stopped the massage, which was unfortunate. Overall we were both bummed, and are booking another massage somewhere else tomorrow. read more

I have never left a yelp review before but I really want to after today's experience. The massage itself was ok. I'd rank it in the lower 50% of massages that I've ever had as far as technique, so not exactly praise worthy. Additionally, I requested the 20 minute massage and mine ended after 17 minutes with the guy leaving to do other things probably three times during that 17 minutes. When it came time to pay I paid the rate ($22) with no tip. The old cashier lady looked at me shocked and asked if I made a mistake by not tipping. I said no mistake. She said that I should tip 20% (hell no). I refused because my 20 minute massage ended after 17 minutes. She started obviously talking about me in a language I couldn't understand in a nasty tone of voice, and my massage guy came over, and rather than address the issue politely, he said I got a 20 minute massage and should tip. At that point I walked out. I will tip for excellent service, or if I feel that a service deserves more than I needed to pay. I think $22 for 17 minutes of mediocre rubbing is pretty decent. I'm the customer, I shouldn't be reprimanded for choosing to not tip. Ps - he didn't know what he was doing. I'm more sore after the massage, and not in a good way. read more

The worst! 90 min table massage I have ever received. In this case you get what you pay for. From the sand paper massage oil to the constant interruptions of attending new customers walking in and out, this place was ridiculous. There was nothing relaxing about this "Relax Day Spa". Save your money and go to a certified massage therapist elsewhere. It takes a lot to bruise me and my neck and back were riddled with torturous reminders every time I moved. Stay away form this place and Linda the masseuse. read more

WOW!!!! I pass by this place all the time in the mall, and after returning from a day of air travel, I decided to give it a try. I didn't schedule an appointment and instead decided to try my chances as a walk-in on a Saturday. I went for a combo... "Foot Joy" with "Full Body Relax." One hour total time and $58. Boy was it worth it! First, they soaked my feet in a bath of "chinese herbs" (read: disinfectant for those who have nasty ass feet.) Then, they started a nice foot massage, focusing on pressure points. I swear that my sinuses popped and my gut shifted in a pleasant way when they hit those points on my feet. They worked on the calves, all while I leaned back in a chair. After that was done, they whisked me to the back area behind some asian paper room dividers, and in broken English, I was told to lay face down on the massage table. The guy who helped me, "Kevin" (surely that's not his REAL name) worked by entire body with his arms and elbows, then flipped me around and worked on my hands and head. In his broken English, he'd say "Okay, lady?" to which I'd reply, "yes, okay!" Warning: they will work your buttocks with their elbows, too, so if you're uncomfortable with that, be sure to let them know on the form you fill out. Personally, I'd recommend you go for it. He worked some muscles in my neck, shoulders, and back, and I left feeling 3 inches taller and incredibly relaxed. I also walked out with a "grand opening specials" flyer for their new location in the Brodie Oaks plaza on South Lamar near Sun Harvest and next to Starbucks. If you're lucky enough to go in on Monday through Thursday between 10am and 3pm, you can get the same service for $20 less. I saw a couple get the foot joy and chair massage combo and they both seemed incredibly pleased when their services were done, sighing with "Man, that was awesome!" I HIGHLY recommend checking this place out and at least going for the "Foot Joy" service. It's a nice change of pace and much different than a standard Deep Tissue or Swedish massage! read more

Allow me to paint the picture for you.. Typically everyone is a walk in, in no time there did I see any one had an appointment. Take a seat and wait for someone to come out to greet you.. You'll be asked what combo or service you would like.. Take a look at the menu, it's pretty simple to navigate. After you decide which service you'll be enjoying you're escorted back to a large room with a horse shoe of chairs that recline and each have a lil pillow. I chose combo 2 heavy on the foot rub, few mins for back massage. I sat in my chair, a towel was brought out to cover my legs, it's dim and there's (only way I can describe) Asian Sinatra playing quietly.. You dip your toesys in a wooden fresh bucket of water and then they begin the rub. Sure it may be weird if you really think about a group of strangers all relaxing in the same room for a foot rub but I just kept thinking wow this is really neat and super Austin chic. I never reach out of my comfort zone and I just went on a whim. Foot rub was pretty good, felt amazing after a week in heels.. Wasn't the best but it was great for the price. I'll skip chair massage next time, was a lil aggressive for my liking. read more

They let me waiting 30 minutes telling me all the time that was going to be only 5 more minutes. They attended 3 people before me even when they arrived later than me, only because they were asking for a more expensive massage. read more

Always walk in and immediate service. They don't really speak English well but you can point to the sign and they do it. The foot reflexology is incredible! I go back when I need a pick me up between regular massages at another place because it's way more affordable. I am SO happy to have found this place and I will frequent them a lot since my job requires me to be on my feet 8+ hours a day with only a 30 minute break to sit down. You are a dream, Relax, affordable quick relaxing foot rubs that work. So nice! read more

I have been going to Relax Day Spa for about 4 months now and they do incredible work. For medical reasons I need to have my feet massaged and I always ask to use the same person (Andy) as he just does a great job. I highly recommend Relax Day Spa as it feels great and is very relaxing. read more

The key to enjoying Relax Day Spa is to remember that you get what you pay for. So for less than $1/minute, you get a pretty awesome (no-frills) foot or shoulder massage. There are people walking in and out of the front door, the employees are talking to each other, and it's not spa-like at all. BUT it's less than $1/minute, which is less than massage at a nail salon, so I think it's still pretty cool. If you want to feel more zen, just bring some ear buds and your favorite chill playlist. read more

This place is great. I've gotten two massages here and both were very good. They knew what they were doing and were professional. The prices are also affordable and the venue is comfortable and clean. I also like firm massages and both were essentially deep tissue. read more

The massage was great but the woman cut me short by 15 minutes for my $38 combo 1. We started at 5:20 pm and I was out of there by 6:00 pm. I knew I'd been shortchanged but not by how much until I got into my car. read more

I love this place. I get the #2 Combo which is something like 40 minutes of work on your feet and 20 minutes chair massage. They are all very strong and very firm. I like a very firm massage and this is the first time I have ever had to ask someone to soften up a bit. Never mind that --- I prefer too firm to not firm enough! It is very inexpensive as well. It is $42 for an hour for the #2. I always leave $20 tip because they work their tails off. My only complaint, and why I cannot give them five stars, is that roughly 2 out of 5 times I go there, the employees are all talking loudly to each other, the whole time you are there. A few times they were having rather heated discussions. It had be hard to relax and stay unfocused when people are yelling at each other. Even with that, I would still come here any day over Massage Envy or Massage Harmony! read more

Love this place. It's no spa but they do consistently great work. I get the 40min foot (and leg -awesome after a long run) + 20min chair massage. read more

I wasn't feeling well today so I went to Sprouts on South Lamar to get some homeopathic cold remedies when I spotted a neon sign on a nondescript building next to Starbucks that flashed "Reflexology" at me. I love Reflexology and haven't found a good practitioner here in Austin. So, I went in. I was immediately greeted by several people who obviously did not speak English which is not a problem for me. I was handed a menu card to choose the service I would like. I chose a 40 minute Reflexology treatment for $28. I was led into a large, comfortable, dimly lit room and directed to sit down in one of the many large recliners. A woman adjusted pillows behind my back, covered my legs with a towel and reclined my chair so that I was laying at a very comfortable angle. Soft "new age" music played. She brought me a small water to drink and put my feet in a bucket of warm water to soak. Several people have mentioned that there was a lot of loud talking and laughing by other therapists and this is true. When in Rome folks. This is not a classically Western day spa. I actually liked the fact that my Reflexologist wasn't making small talk or idle chit chat with me. It was all business which actually allowed me to relax more and not be concerned with how my therapist was feeling. Another woman came in right after me and was seated in the chair right next to me. There is enough space between the chairs that it was fine. It is very much like going to have a pedicure. If you've been to Great Nails or any other such establishment, then you'll be fine with the whole thing. If you're expecting a private spa experience then you'll probably need to adjust your receptivity. Anyway, my therapist went to town on my feet and I just closed my eyes, relaxed and went with the entire experience. At one point, my sinuses cleared and my lower back ache went away. I totally ascribe to the benefits of Reflexology. I wanted to try something else on the menu, so after the foot treatment I added a 20 minute chair massage for another $12. The same therapist who did my feet also gave me my massage which was vigorous and perfect. As expected, I feel much better. I loved this entire experience. Everyone was polite and professional. I am absolutely going to become a regular at Relax! read more

This is a great place to go in a pinch if you need to unwind at a reasonable price. There are different options to choose from. I always get the 40 min "Foot Joy" and a 15 minute chair massage. Reflexology is very relaxing and I like that they stay open until 9 pm during the week. The staff speaks very little English which is perfectly fine by me. They do their magic, I fall asleep and I always leave feeling great. This is not a fancy atmosphere by any means and I'm ok with that. Best chair massage I've ever had too. read more

I mean, it's $38 for almost an hour long foot massage and chair massage. It's in an open room, so it can get noisy. But you don't need an appointment, they're open til 9pm... I've seen people on their cell phones during their massage, so the expectations on both sides are pretty clear. But it's definitely my go to spot after a long night in heels! read more

Every time I've come in for treatment it's been great. Though do have my favorites... Yoyo is the best and Sam is great, too. I feel great!

I've had really good...and really poor massages here. Just left and the lady cut me short by 10 mins and didn't really seem to care at all. Sometimes the people are great...but the chances are 50/50... read more

Tl,Dr: decent massage, not so good hygiene, not so good courtesy I had gone here with my fiancé. There was barely any communication on what the differences are between each of the packages, but that was expected from a place like this. They were rushing us to pick one and get started. We picked the table massage. We were ushered into a room which was already dim-lit. They had a sign that specifically asked us not to remove clothes. As usual they ushered us in with barely any instructions, only to come back and ask us to remove most of our clothes. But there were NO hooks or tables or any spot for us to put our clothes - we had to put them on the floor, which I did not feel great about considering the general ambience. Further, the guy who massaged my fiancé had a severe cold. We could hear him sneezing and blowing his nose during the massage. We are pretty sure he has passed it on to my fiancé who is sick now. Please do not let your sick employees do a massage!!! I was not happy and gave a small tip for both services. The cashier openly asked me to give more. When I said no, she started mumbling away in Chinese - they could have asked us what they could do better instead. read more

LOVE this spot. My GF and I went 3 times this week. After years of experience getting massages, I am very pleased with what they do at Relax. It's very unique, focused and easy on both wallet and schedule. At times, we definitely prefer this over a 90 minute deep tissue. Quality is outstanding! read more

DO NOT come here unless you enjoy brutal massages that will leave you with bruises. I went here for a table massage and the guy who did my massage was super aggressive. I went with a friend and the two massage therapists were talking to each other most of the time so it was hard to relax on top of the fact that the guy was digging into my muscles. I now have bruises down my back. I understand soreness after a massage, but not bruising. I cannot even sleep on my back. read more

I am finally writing a review of this place after giving it chance after chance this past year. The first time I went, after moving to Austin, I had a great chair massage and decided to treat myself every couple of weeks. It just got worse and worse every time - I always requested a 'strong, firm' massage and every time it was less strong and more ridiculous. Several times I got the older woman and no offense to her, but she cannot do a strong massage. I wanted to wait for someone stronger but they would never let me. Then, I started getting this guy who would cough constantly (without covering his mouth) and bringing up phlegm and it was disgusting. And he was constantly using one hand and I swear he was on his phone?!?! I thought maybe he had a cold the first couple of times but I got him again the other day after not going for 2.5 months - same thing! He should not be working there. Most of them should not be working there - they don't care, they don't try, and they are rude. I was always hoping that I would get a good massage again like the first time but after about 20 more massages and several hundred dollars later, I have learned my lesson and have stopped going. I am going to find a real, decent massage in this city if it kills me!! Don't waste your money here - you have about a 1 in 20 chance of getting a good, proper massage from someone who actually tries. read more

When I lived closer to this spa I would frequently get a chair or foot massage here. It is convenient and they will usually accommodate walk-ins. On a recent visit i was quite disappointed. The therapists talk to each other while massaging, and the whole experience felt rushed, not relaxing. The icing on the cake was when I went to leave a tip. Usually I pay in cash rather than put it on the credit card so the therapists don't have to pay the service fee. I asked for some ones for a $5 bill, and the therapist gave me back $1 and refused to give me more. It felt like a hassle and she was adamant that she was not giving me back my money. It is only a couple of dollars but the whole experience felt like a shake down. read more

When this place first opened it was really good. The last eight times I've gone I've been beaten up and it's been painful and not relaxing. It's not relaxing but very painful! read more

I can't say enough good things about there foot reflexology, it has been a great addition to my health regime.

I feel very relaxed after getting a foot massage and / or chair massage. Someone is always available when I go during lunchtime. The price is reasonable. read more

They quickly sat me down along with the scurry of other clients. I chose foot reflexology of 50 minutes for 38$. At least 40% of the treatment was from my ankles to my knees which is not reflexology. The effort spent on the feet was too soft. I rub my feet in the same manner at home. During the time there three of the therapists were chatting and chuckling while one of those three snorted flegm loudly three times. When I paid the woman who worked on me she presented me a ticket with the price of 38$ and pointed to the tip section. I handed her 40 and she again pointed to the tip section. I said, ¨yes, you get two dollars.¨ She pointed to the tip section twice more. read more

I come here all the time and absolutely love it. I gave it 4 stars because it depends on who you get, but when you get someone good, it's absolutely amazing and such a great deal. I went in today and asked for a chair massage with special emphasis on my neck, and she did an amazing job!!! I think she even used China gel because my skin was super warm when she touched it and then icy cold when she moved to a different area. It was amazing. If you get someone you don't like, just come back at a different time on a different day. I've never had the same person twice. read more

Creepy:(((( had a very inappropriate experience there last time. He reached up my pants while massaging my legs and brushed where he shouldn't have- on purpose- and after I told him to stop he did it again, pretending not to understand English. It was a new guy. I used to LOVE this place. I came once a week and it was clean and respectable. But they've hired new people and this young guy made me feel so uncomfortable. When I told them, their English was either genuinely bad or they pretended not to understand. I felt icky afterwards and embarrassed and will NEVER go back. I'm sad I lost my favorite massage place. read more

Great foot massage spot. I always bring a friend. Cheap prices and strong therapists !

I have been to this place several times. This time like one other time, I felt like the therapist was hasty, and the touch was too aggressive. I went with a friend, and she felt the same way. Since no one seems to speak any English, it is very difficult to ask for a lighter touch. The foot massage was lackluster, the leg massage was painful. During the chair massage part, he grabbed my left arm, yanked it around, and popped it. Five days later it still hurts, and I have a hard time sleeping on that side. I really want to like this place, but I don't know who is giving the technicians their instructions, but someone needs to discuss good customer service and good communication with them. I would much rather pay double for a good treatment, than subject myself to this again.....too bad because when it was good it was really good. read more

My daughter and I had foot relexology and hand massage. We both had woman and it was fine. The place can be disorganized depending when you arrive. They did have some music, but the therapists also talked to each other some and someone else was measuring the room while we were there. In a pinch it will work for you, for less money it will work. If you are high strung in any way it will be annoying. read more

Photos are accurate, it is one large shared room -- I don't/didn't mind that at all. The people were nice, there really was not the loud talking, but the therapist next to mine was talking in their native language to my therapist and both were looking right at me -- it was odd, but I expected that based on other reviewers. I went with my husband, we both had the foot/arm combo and we could not wait to get home and shower. They soak your feet in buckets of water to start...they are lined with clear plastic bags. I thought the bags were to toss out but no, my husband saw the buckets lined up at the front all with residual water left in them..like small puddles in the bottom, they were just dumping the water out and reusing the bags for mulitple customers -- that is really gross. The chairs are upholstered..and they put upholstered pillows behind your back and neck to recline you -- who knows how many heads and bodies have been on those pillows... My therapist's touch was way too light on my feet and legs, great on my arms but I thought she was going to break my fingers...really, I'm pretty tough but she bent them so much and the pain was intense...I was concerned. My husband described his therapist as "barbaric"...his nails were too long and digging into his skin...the pressure was way too hard and caused repeated pain. I don't recall seeing any licenses...surely they are there...? I wouldn't go back....it felt too dirty...especially if they are reusing bags for soaking everyone's feet, that is just disgusting. read more

SAVE YOUR MONEY. Their are so many other awesome local businesses in Austin that you can give your hard working money to. To make a long story short I received a combo 3 from a very nice lady that did a great job, so good that I wanted to add on a chair massage for 12 extra bucks. Some other lady took over (the owner of the joint) she rubbed me very lightly and kept walking away to service the register and walk in customers. I think my 2 year old can give a better massage then what I received. It was bad so bad that 5 mins into my 15 min massage I was done and got up and left. The owner checked me out and charged me 12 extra bucks on top of my other message for a 5 min on and off pat on the back. She then started shouting Tip! Tip! I explained to her that I would be back after I got some cash since I didn't want my tip to go to the tip pool. I wanted to make sure that the lady who hooked me up got my big tip, since it wasn't her fault the owner was so rude. The owner starting yelling to the other workers that I was leaving without tipping in Chinese. Little did she know I knew exactly what she was saying. I got 20 bucks out my truck and handed to the lady that took care of me and asked to speak to the owner so that I can express my frustration. I let her know that I was very unsatisfied with my chair massage, and I was shocked that she still had the nerve to charge me for something I was clearly not happy with/ didn't really truly get. However my main issue was the fact that when I walked away to my truck she yelled to her staff that I was leaving without tipping as if I had robbed a bank and someone needed to chase after me. I was charge 38 bucks for the combo 3 then charged 12 bucks for nothing and I'm sure that my 20! tip was thrown into the tip pool. The owner did say she was sorry for the massage and that she was busy and that I can come back another day and get a free massage. I probably won't be back since I don't feel that was the best way to handle the situation after all why would I want to come back after she pretty much called me a cheap ass when she assumed that I wasn't going to leave a tip, to her surprised when I tipped 75%. Do yourself a favor and save your money for a better local business, when the owner of a company charges you for something you didn't get then calls you a cheap ass in Chinese it's time to probably spend 10 more bucks for a better relation experience. Work hard, play hard, spend wisely. Rated this at costly since anytime you give someone money for a service not received that is not considered a deal. read more
