Glen is out-of-this-world AMAZING! He is hands-down the best deep tissue massage therapist and energy worker. His technique is practical and effective. No matter how often I go to see him, he always checks-in to see what I need help with in each session. He is very intentional about how he works on me and the pressure he uses, and resultantly has supported me with a tremendous amount of healing. I first came to Rub Massage Austin not having much belief or interest in the Reiki energy work thing. After having been seen by Glen for several years, I quite literally see things differently, and have experienced surprising and extremely positive spiritual transformation. Glen performed myofascial release on me several days a week for several months and helped me eliminate large swathes of scar tissue from an invasive surgery. There were also several large lumps of scar tissue that he was able to eliminate completely using various massage techniques. He also taught me techniques I could use at home between sessions to assist with the healing process. As my body recovered from the trauma and I worked my way back to regular activity, he performed deep tissue massage that helped keep my healing and recovery on track. All the while, Glen performed a type of energy work called Reiki, which was just included as part of his regular services. I will forever be grateful to Glen for helping eliminate all that scar tissue, and continuing to help heal me throughout my recovery. The effects of the energy work though - those were perhaps the most enlightening part of the whole experience. Once I'd spent a good amount of time as a client of Glen's, my mind opened up and I was able to experience additional healing at the spiritual level. How crazy is that, right? It's like yoga - you come for the exercise and get the spiritual benefits just by being present with the practice. So amazing! Jacob did a great job of really working deep into some of the spots that are always tight in my shoulders. He checked in to make sure the pressure was okay, which I always appreciate. I was once given the nickname "corpsie"... not just for the coldness of my footsies in bed, but... also for the the complete and total lack of pain sensors I seem to have been given at birth. Meaning - my ENTIRE LIFE - there has been ONE, and only ONE person who has ever been able to make a massage feel like something beyond a feather rubbing along my back to annoy me. Until Glen... Oh. My. God. Seriously (Yes, I am reverting to 5th grade valley girl speak).... Oh. My. God. I only went to see Glen in the first place b/c I had some super-cheap deal that made me think "...if nothing else it will be a practice in sitting still." This is why Glen is AMAZING: - He is open to you giving feedback, and doesn't make you feel like a wench when you do. - That said, you soon realize there is NO NEED to give him feedback, he has some sort of magic spidey sense that leads him directly to whatever knot or strange, twisted body part that needs to be put back in place -He balances the subtle touching (just enough to warm things up so he can move to deep tissue) with the serious work of getting things back where they belong - In over 2 years, I have NEVER left feeling pained. Know how some therapists say 'you might feel worse for a while...' Well, he's never had to go that route with me. Just pure awesomeness. -He gives insurance receipts for reimbursement if you are so lucky to have that as a benefit. - If you aren't filing via insurance (there have been times I haven't) he is beyond reasonably priced, and worth every penny and then some. Over the last couple of years, I've become obsessed with kettlebell workouts and while they provide a great workout, I quickly realized that this style of workout put stress on parts of my body I didn't even know I had. Glen is an absolute delight. His skills speak for themselves (as I write this, I am still a bit massage drunk). But not loudly enough, which is why I am here to sing his praises. His energy is great, and he clearly knows how to listen to the body and what you tell him about it. I broke my back in 2008. I've been getting massages every two weeks since 2009, to relieve stress and tension, and to keep my back muscles from tightening up and spasming. By the time I'd go back for my next appointment, before I found Glen, I was usually hurting. Now, I've had two appointments with Glen, and I'm about to have my third. I've had to let three weeks go by since my last one, because of the holidays and some sad/difficult personal circumstances. And yet, my back has held up since my last massage with him. He asks questions, and he listens to the answers. The music is perfect, and he lets you choose to talk, or spend your table time with him in blissful silence. An hour massage with Glen feels like two, yet the time passes in the blink of an eye. My body feels alive and happy when the appointment is over, and my mind is as relaxed as it can get. I have been dealing with Lower back and Sciatic pain for months now.  Through a combination of stretching, yoga, and massage therapy, I am starting to get it under control. First review, but I had to leave something. I've suffered with migraines since I was 8, and I'm quite active, resulting in a large amount of tension in my neck and shoulders, as well as my lower back. I went in to have this dealt with, and I was massaged by Jacob. He was very accommodating to my needs, and made the experience quite worthwhile. He asked questions about my lifestyle in order to help me avoid having so much back pain, and always asked if he was applying enough pressure or too much. Full disclaimer: Glen is a friend of mine from high school, but that was of course well before we entered our respective professions. :) I was happy to reconnect with him at another friend's storytelling performance several months ago, and learn that he is highly recommended as a massage therapist. I have been going to Glen monthly for 6 months now and he is an excellent massage therapist. I would describe his style as intuitive and he incorporates multiple modalities. He always finds the spots that need work! If you come monthly you also get a discount. The parking downtown can be hard to find at times, so allow yourself an extra 10 minutes in case you have to drive around the block a few times to find a parking spot. read more
