Huge shoutout to my mother for gifting me a Shiatsu massage at Santa Barbara Sparkling Spa through Groupon. I have been super stressed (as many people are during these crazy times) with work and school. I have developed trigger point muscle spasms that occasionally lead to debilitating migraines. So, being gifted with a shiatsu massage got rid of those tension muscles and left me feeling rejuvenated. Making the appointment was easy, I texted the number provided and immediately got a friendly response and was able to book an appointment 3 weeks out. It was nice that they reached out to me when their earlier appointment was unable to make their appointment so I was able to move up my massage to a time that actually worked better for me. I appreciate their easy communication. Hector greeted me along with providing hand sanitizer, and checking my temperature. The whole place was super calming, inviting, and clean. Shoes were left at the door which i presume can be related to both hygiene and the rituals of a peaceful atmosphere (correct me if I am wrong). Hector brought me back to my massage table and explained how shiatsu massages work, which was really helpful because I have never had one before. In summary: breath through the movements especially the more tense areas, communication is important so that he knows where to spend more/less attention, and to let go and embrace the moment. Tip: for shiatsu massage do not wear jeans. Luckily mine were stretchy so I was able to move easily with them. However, I do wish I wore leggings for fuller movement. Hector was so great. He provided the right amount of pressure and worked well with my tense muscles. There were a couple of tender spots that I was surprised about and appreciated that he explained a possible reason as to why I would be feeling that area. Interesting is maybe a good word. I have had many professional massages and this one was different from past experiences. That's ok, I am open to new experience and treatments. I will see how I feel after a day or so. This massage was deep and slow, with pressure, Scott did explain that the type of massage is slow to let your brain stem connect and relax the muscles. Kind of makes sense and as time passed I did feel my muscles starting to relax. Mixed feelings here as I did miss my massaging part. Towards the end of my session Scott did work on my upper shoulders and neck; this was divine and made it all worth while. To address the canine part I did not mind at all, love my furry family friends, however I am surprised that this is not mentioned on appointment or discussed before the massage. Who knows, I could be highly allergic to canines. Next did not give the 5th star because Groupon was for massage with champagne. Somehow that was missed, and since my therapist (Scott) did tell me during massage that alcohol is not good and sneaks up on you and can really change your prospective in life, I was afraid to ask where my champagne was so left without enjoying any bubbles . Not sure I would go back, but yes I am glad I gave it a try. New experience always a plus. read more

Do NOT buy their Groupon. As we all have experienced during these COVID times, stress is something we've all experienced. I wholeheartedly had the best intentions to find a spa, who's vision ensures its customers feel relaxed and welcomed; clearly, this business has no interest in exercising good customer service or performing their selling point. I want to share that I purchased two (2) Groupon deals, one for my partner and me. Their Groupon deal notes that to book an appointment, one needs to reach via text and indicate interest in getting a massage and note if it's a Groupon deal. In short, I reached out to them via text and informed them that I'd like to schedule two massage appointments, one for me and one for my partner, and inquired about their availability. I was informed that they only book "one person at a time" "separately" and that the earliest booking was a month out... I texted back and informed them that it's fine to please book us for the Dec 16 opening. Their response noted they misread my text, that "they don't couples" "we book one at a time." Understandably, I get that no couples are not being serviced, but I was simply asking to be booked the same day. Their response that followed was abrasive and in poor taste that I was completely flabbergasted. They noted, "I'm not booking "us" ... "they understand my goal" ...." they work with one person at a time, if we want something together, they are not the right company." Okay, so at this point, I start to think that maybe, just maybe, the person behind the phone has misunderstood and they need me to state that I want to book two individual appointments for two different people and that I'd like to request them on the same day, just not the same hour. (please see texted pictures attached). But their response got even better. They suggested that I get a refund AND try Massage Green. I was appalled and thought, wow, instead of this person taking the time to sort out the misunderstanding, they rather pawn people off and not try to retain the customer. A simply, "I'm sorry, I may have misunderstood your request...Is there a good number I can reach you at, and work on getting that appointment for you and your partner?" Instead, they sent passive-aggressive emojis, which clearly denotes they have no desire to stay in business. Overall, I simply cannot wrap my head around a "business" who refers customers to another spa competitor. Love this place!! Not going to lie, it was more painful than relaxing at times, but as anthlete, I needed it bad. You guys rock!!!

We had a Groupon for this place and the price was good just above $100 for a couples massage. Unfortunately we had the displeasure of receiving a 35 minutes massage when we paid for 60 minutes. This wasn't the first time we had been and the same thing was done the previous time. We even paid for the hot tiger treatment, it's was an extra cost and expected at least the minimum time allotted. The massage also came with champagne and truffles, we had a glass and asked for truffles after massage because they never offered them. The massage was great, I just wish I got what paid for. Even if it was a groupon, we at least expect the minimum, if not don't offer the service.... maybe next time. We went in for a relaxing, fun, time and ended up a little bitter; even then still tipped and paid for an extra service. Oh well. Edit: masseuse called screaming to argue about the fact we were 15 minutes late and that was the reason they cut the massage a whole 30 minutes, thanks. Nice way to relax your customer. read more

I bought a groupon voucher for a massage for my birthday and whoever I was in contact with completely ruined it for me. They wouldn't even give me their name, and did not try to be accommodating. My friend got the groupon voucher as well, so we decided we would travel to SB the same day. Understandably they couldn't do the appointment at the same time due to COVID so I asked if they had 2 openings the same day anytime throughout the week. The person I was talking to could not understand what I was saying and kept repeating we don't do same time appointments. I kept repeating I did not want that and they kept repeating the same thing over and over. I asked for available time slots for the week then so my friend and I could figure it out on our own but they wouldn't even provide that. This is my first ever experience with an establishment that is so obviously not trying to satisfy the customer. *Update: owner finally contacted me and scheduled us in. There was no apology. Later the owner informed me that she/he saw my yelp review and asked me to take it down. I was busy that day (Tuesday- my birthday) and forgot to respond. The next day they said they cancelled my appointment because my "reaction to an international pandemic is awful" I would understand a reaction if I asked for something ridiculous but for a business to say that when all I asked for was 2 available time slots the same day or two consecutive days is extremely unprofessional. They didn't even offer to let me have a good experience which I was still open to after the miscommunication fiasco and redeem themselves. read more

Wow!! My husband and I just received a couples massage from Jen and Scott and it was fantastic. Normally, when you ask a masseuse for a deep massage they just add a little pressure, not here. They get into every knot, muscle and pressure point. We walked out floating on air. It's a very nice space overlooking state street and the bubbly was a nice touch. We already booked another appt. The only tip I will offer is to get there a little early to find parking. We scoped it out ahead a of time and parked in the parking structure around the corner. read more

Highly recommend this very hip spot for a massage. Whether you are a local or on vacation, you'll be happy you stopped by! Hector is very skilled with his hands and did exactly what I asked: a "seek and destroy" mission for some very tight spots I had after sleeping on an uncomfortable mattress. My back and hips were so tight I thought for sure I'd need a second massage before my vacation was over but I woke up the next morning and everything was back in place and relaxed! I'm a very happy customer and look forward to stopping in next time I'm in town. I loved that they played chill music (a nice change from Tibetan chants or bowls at most massage places) and I loved the greeting from the service dog in the front room. So I booked an appointment for a couple massage Saturday 11/11. Due to a family emergency, I needed to cancel. I called them Thursday afternoon, they didn't answer (no surprise). Considering it's a 24 hour cancelation & my appointment wasn't until 10 am Saturday. I figured I could just call Friday morning and still be able to cancel. Well I called Friday morning, 4 DIFFERENT times, left 4 DIFFERENT voicemails telling them I needed to cancel, never got a call back from them. So today's Monday, I called them to let them know I still am owed a refund, they finally called back when my fiancé called them. They said it was a "late cancelation" & the manager even went as far as saying I was lying and I didn't call until Saturday morning to cancel. I have phone records to prove I called Friday. (See picture) I'm now beginning to think they didn't call me back ON PURPOSE. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Now I have to go through the trouble of disputing the charge on my card (which I already started). Just save your money & go somewhere else. Not worth the waisted time with these people. I bought a couples massage on Groupon. First, we had a tough time finding the place, since the name of the spa on Groupon (SOMA Get Fit) didn't match the name of the spa on the door (Santa Barbara Sparkling Spa). We called the spa for help getting there, but no one answered. We wound up parking blocks away and arriving a bit late. That time came right off the massage, which is to be expected, since another couple showed up as we left. The spa room was very nice and relaxing. We filled out forms indicating where we were in need of massage. My partner and I both indicated pain in our necks and shoulders. Scott massaged my partner and Jen massaged me. After reading the form, Scott asked my partner if he wanted the whole 60 minutes on his back and shoulders, which is what he got. My partner loved his massage and found it to be deep and therapeutic. I advised Jen I would be happy to have my whole massage on my neck and shoulders, and that I preferred it very deep. Honestly, the massage felt more Swedish in nature and I was just frustrated when she flipped me over and did my arms and legs, hands and feet. FINALLY, she got to my neck and I told her I had been waiting the whole massage for her to get to my sore, aching neck. No lie... she stroked it ONE TIME and that was it. The massage was over. My partner left in ecstasy, totally relaxed. I left, as sore as when I came in, and bummed out. Nothing is worse than a rotten massage from a therapist that is just going through the motions and not listening to your words or your body. My 3 stars is an average - 5 for Scott and 1 for Jen. I should say I found Jen to be a very nice person, but she just didn't pay attention to what I wrote or said to her. read more

Their prices allow me to make this part of my regular self-care routine. I got a groupon for a massage here and after waiting over two months for an appointment (which I understand because of covid) a lockdown in Santa Barbara came into effect again. When I tried to contact them to see if they were still open all I got in return was thumbs up emojis and then I asked if they were doing indoor or outdoor massages they again avoided my question. Since indoor massages are illegal right now, I tried to cancel my appointment because it seemed sketchy and unsafe, they completely stopped responding, and there is no way to get ahold of them over the phone which is very inconvenient. I purchased the Groupon for this place. I figured, why not support a local business? When I tried to book an appointment they wouldn't honor the deal. The rude response what that it is the policy of management that you have to actually have the service before the expiration date of the Groupon, and not just book by the expiration which is what is implied given the small operation couldn't possible handle the hundreds of Groupons sold within the short time frame. Of course, this 'policy' is not disclosed on the Groupon deal, it is conveniently used as an excuse to not honor the voucher. Not only was the receptionist rude on the phone, but she promised the manager would call to discuss; which never happened. This type of customer service is unfortunate, but I'm extremely disappointed that a local Santa Barbara business would be so deceptive. This is the type of business practice you'd expect from a large corporation, but a local business that is in the service industry? ...to pull a stunt like this...Well, I fear for the survival of this company. Then again, if you're treating people like this, I wouldn't feel comfortable utilizing their services any way. Upon taking this up with Groupon, they are refusing to refund despite this scam. He knows exactly where to put pressure. Some massage therapists don't know how to feel the muscles and target them but he does a great job. I really enjoy my massages with him. If I could give negative stars I would. I bought my wife an anniversary Groupon here and they refused to accept it because she missed a previous Groupon appointment. I wish I could comment on their actual service, but I can't because their customer service doesn't care about the customer. If you aren't going to honor Groupons, don't sell them. Never give this dishonorable place your time or money! Later edit in response to Scott: your policy does not take into account that we also spent money, twice for services we will not receive. Fine, she wasn't able to make the first appointment (due to illness, which you did take into consideration or acknowledge in your response). She assumed you wouldn't want to give a massage to someone with an illness, but of course your excellent customer service people could care less about that. I was born, raised and have never left Santa Barbara. That being said I've been to a lot of local massage therapists, spas, sports massage, etc. I was referred to Scott by my friend and now visit SB Sparkling at least once a month. As a wedding planner I am on my feet 10+ hours a day and was having serious hip problems. Cleanliness was superb, and quality of the massage was 5 star. I was given a warm neck pillow and relaxed in a cozy blanket on a massage table for the 45 minute CBD oil foot massage. The foot massage was excellent and you could definitely tell the masseuse was educated. Great price for the value! Definitely beats the Rainbow Foot spas and Evan's Relaxation Stations where you are lined up next to other clients and risk inconsistencies in the quality of the massages. read more

He told me about an upgrade with heat and cbd which I accepted to get in order to enhance the massage and I really liked it. I felt so much better during and after the massage. Just had the 60 minute massage. Robert gave me the best massage I have ever had. Being a previous athlete, I have had a minimum 60-70 massages in my lifetime, but no one has been so intuitive with my body before. Robert was extremely detailed and relieved tension throughout my body. I cannot recommend this enough and am super stoked to find someone who I can continue to go back to for the foreseeable future. Received a gift card for a massage from a good friend... and WOW, what a gift! Made an appt with Scott and couldn't wait to get in for a much needed massage. The location is convenient, ample parking in the public (pay) lot behind the building. The environment is warm and welcoming, including Tabitha, the furry four-legger who seems to be there often, if not all the time - unlike some of the other reviewers, I for one don't mind her greetings, she's harmless and doesn't care who you are, she's just saying hi. My wife and I purchased a couples massage groupon and our massages were given by Jen and Hector. Facility - The space and ambiance were very nice. Everything felt, smelled, and looked very clean. The building and location had a great feel and we enjoyed our short wait and the customer service. The champagne was great but I did note that our groupon include chocolate truffles that did not materialize. Not a big deal I point it out to be fair. We also added on the Tiger balm and warm towels option. (i highly recommend this additional add on) Massages - speaking for my massage, Hector was amazing. I have experienced well over 100 massages and Hector gave the best massage I've experienced to date. I was able to fully relax! He gave the massage precisely at the firmness level I requested and his technique was extremely good. I felt amazing after and on into the evening. speaking for my wife's massage, Jen was good. My wive has similarly experienced many massages. She did feel the massage was good but unfortunately left still feeling as if her target areas (as described in the pre-massage questionnaire and in speaking with Jen before the massage) had not been worked out. She specifically asked to have her shoulder, shoulder blades, and upper back to be concentrated on as she felt she had many knots. When she left she felt like she had a good massage but that the target areas hadn't been hit as well as she had hoped. Overall - Both Jen and Hector were extremely courteous and the massages were great. We are definitely interested in making the drive back to Santa Barbra from LA just to have these massages again. read more

Came in for a couples massage with my gf and it was probably the worst experience I ever had. I've had massages a few times here and there but never like this one. When you show up they greet you with champagne and truffles which I thought was pretty cool. Then they make you fill out a paper to point out where on your body you want them to specifically work on, and as I mentioned to the lady how bad my backs been hurting from an injury for the past 2 days, they said they were going to get that taken care of. Once we get in the room my gf and I get to the tables and lay down. Then a guy comes in and doesn't even say a word other than: Light, medium or firm massage, which I put on paper light/medium cause I was kind of hurting a bit. Then after that he starts with the massage, pretty firmly, and let me just tell you , it wasn't what I was expecting at all. It was awkward, weird and felt like he was in a rush or something. I honestly needed my sciatic nerve in my lower back area worked on but he worked on everything else but that . I was super close from just getting up and just waiting it out in the waiting room cause that was massage didn't help at all. If anything it made my back worse. I saw my gf enjoying her massage so I just said fuck it I'll deal with it. Kind of regret us leaving that big of a tip. read more
