So I didn't even buy anything, but on our way to the door, one of the employees told us that we could borrow some eclipse glasses to view the eclipse. If you're into outdoor activities, it's worth a trip to REI. They sell camping, hiking, cycling, canoeing, and many other products. Their store has a very nice design and the layout is easy to navigate. Employees are helpful and attentive. I come here for cycling accessories, so I can't speak on their other sections of the store. They have a pretty decent selection of parts and bikes that range in price from affordable to a bit expensive. There are a lot of fair deals but some items cost a bit more than they should. You can get membership here which gets you access to sales, classes, planned activities, and an annual refund which is useful if you come here often. read more

The advantage to this national chain Local Bike Shop (LBS) is that you are not confined to just one location...Staff members are held accountable for their service, if you have a problem, you can escalate it versus dealing with a smaller LBS owner who may have a chip on their shoulder because you decided to return a bike.... Now if you are an avid cyclist who wants greater customization or has specific questions, in the market for a road bike which requires tailor bike fitting, or just want more of local coffee and donut house experience, you are better off going to a smaller place where you get a good vibe from experienced staff.... read more

This is a great store! Its great in all aspects- customer service and products (quality, variety etc). Some reviews from about 2 years ago often mention this store had horrible customer service. However, my experience today was excellent. The workers walked around and asked if I needed help finding anything. One person had a conversation with us, asking what kind of trip we are planning on embarking on. He told us about a trip he was going to take soon and it just felt like a welcoming atmosphere. As if we were long time friends! The workers followed COVID guidelines like wearing a mask, wiping down the counter/ card pay machine. I definitely will be coming back to this store. Only complain is the price. Like 200$ for even clearance clothing! But I do understand this is bc they sell top name brands like Patagonia, Columbia, and The North Face. read more

I have been to REI a couple times in the past week for an item for my bike. The reason I went there was because they were the only place in Houston that had a particular bike computer that I wanted in stock. The store itself is very nice with a lot of equipment...maybe a little bit crowded. The prices are somewhat inline with most of the other bike shops including the big ones like Sun and Ski. The only problem was the lack of customer service. Both times I was there looking around at all their products and only one employee asked if I needed help. I wont be back because of this unless they are the only store that has an item I want and I will probally look online for it before I go back. read more

I came in for an online purchase pickup around 7pm yesterday and walked around a bit. I was looking for the customer service desk . Not one person who worked there said " Hi" or asked me if I needed help. When I finally found the counter, the lady " helping" me was extremely short and cold towards me. I have worked retail and realize that it is a hard job but there is no excuse to be rude to a customer or not offer help. A kind smile or a " hello" goes a long way. This is the first and the last time I shop there and had I not already purchased my item I would have turned around and walked out. I expected this place to be an expensive version of Academy. But to my surprise, the store offered some great deals and really exceptional products. I've only been once, so far, but I ended up getting the perfect Kelty backpack (out of tons they had to choose from), and since I bought a "membership" I got 20% off. REI is the bomb.com! I went here after I got on this huge camping binge so I wanted to find some outdoor gear. I love their SIGG bottle collection and they had a great sale when I went. I got a pair of trail running shoes for only $30 so I decided to buy another pair for a buddy of mine since they were so cheap. They also have a great selection of Gerber knives and flashlights and I'll be returning soon to get some more camping gear. The staff here would give me great advice on what gear to get. I went ahead and became a member and eventually earned some money to buy other stuff at the store since I bought so much stuff from here after awhile. Their return policy is pretty sweet as well. I brought over my backpack that was minimally damaged during a trip to Spain and just had it exchanged immediately for a brand new one with no questions asked. My only problem is trying to not buy anything here when I am in the area. read more

I remember when I first came here the rock climbing section was dismal. It has since improved. This store is pretty much your typical REI. Staff are mostly friendly and helpful. There is one employee whom I have had multiple negative experiences with. Older and heavy set, he will try to tell you what you need in a very bossy manner. I last encountered him when shopping for a backpacking pack for my girlfriend. He tried to tell us that she needed two backpacks, one for travel, one for camping (a 20 minute speel). He immediately reached for the most expensive Osprey to sell us. The entire situation was uncomfortable. We finally were able to ask him to leave us alone so we could look at and try on packs. When we found the perfect pack he rang up our purchase with his iPhone. Don't let him do this! I've let him do this twice and he fumbles the buttons, cancels the order, will have to rescan everything. Just politely tell him you'll use the regular check out. It will save you 15 minutes. I want to reiterate that all other employees here that I have interacted with are very friendly and helpful. read more

I go to REI for Brooks tennis shoes. It's one of the only stores that carry them! They have outstanding customer service, I have never had a bad experience here! One of the only places left that has a shoe department that actually is educated on how to measure feet and that has product knowledge. They sell all kinds of camping gear, knives, canoes, bikes, back packing supplies etc. they also have different workshops throughout the year, I haven't been to one yet but I plan on it. I'd advise everyone to sign up for the REI membership. It is 20 bucks for a life long membership and you get dividend amounts that are based off of your purchases. read more

I probably just walked out of REI for the last time. I am sick of going in that store and they're being nobody on the floor to 1) open up the dressing room (even yelling for someone it took 10 minutes for someone to appear) 2) answer a question (They had several new arrivals (I figured out after 20 minutes) on racks that had big "SALE" signs on them) 3) prices NOT marked on items and 4) EVERY item I touched fell on the floor. SUCK IT UP REI and purchase some non slip hangers. Putting a "sale" sign on racks of clothes that are NOT on sale is a tactic I expect at Walmart, NOT the REI I have supported for years. I had 2 women apologize about the dressing room. There's always an excuse but I'm sick of it. I suggested to one they get a bell if they're not going to watch the dressing rooms and she said she would be offended if someone rang a bell at her. What about offenses their customers??? Save your time and head to Whole Earth. They have twice the inventory and plenty of nice, pleasant, knowledgeable people to help you. read more

Nice and clean store. Lots of options for all sorts of outdoor activities. Top names in clothing, shoes, equipment, bags, tents, food, etc are here to get you started or keep you going. It is a bit pricey so know that everything here starts rather high in dollar value. Also, visiting around the standard work day hours of Mon-Fri 10-4 is the best time to go. Weekends are crowded and there are only four fitting rooms that almost always have 1-2 people standing in line as they wait to try something on. Nearby you have DSW, Petco, Barnes and Noble, etc. read more

This is my 2 cents on the amazing folks working in the REI Bike Dept. I bought a Marin curb hopper about a year ago... took it in for the Gold Tune-Up and now with a couple of upgrades my bike is BETTER THAN NEW... and at an extremely fair price. Speaking of extremely fair prices... I broke a spoke on my rear wheel and rather than drive to REI... I paid a shop out here in Miz City $35 to get back up and running. Two months later another broken spoke on the same wheel... I needed to go inside the loop for something else and planned to drop the wheel off at REI... thinking I would pick it up in a couple days... the guy in the shop fixed it while I waited... charged me a buck and a half for the spoke... no labor charge... and I got in a 50 mile ride the next day!!! My road bike is going in next... they have a lock on my business... great team. read more

Horrible customer service. I was there for an hour trying to buy new hiking boots for my upcoming Inca trial hike in sept and no one was able to help me. I have high arches and wide feet and was having difficulties finding the right shoe with the proper fit and support. No one working there was able to provide any advice or support. The sales associate were more preoccupied with getting different shoe sizes for customers than actually helping people. I kept asking one guy who worked there for advice but he seemed more occupied with helping other customers. I left empty handed and frustrated. read more

Yay for REI! Great gear and selection, always quality stuff. My only complaint is this store's location (seriously, they aren't in an accessible part of town, and they really don't fit in there). It is expensive, so yes, you could definitely save by getting stuff online if you know what you're doing. Make sure you get on their dividends program. I have been going to rei for as long as I can remember. They're prices may be a bit more but, the fact that they take things back with no hesitation is worth shipping here. This is your typical rei store, which I have been to maybe a dizen times. Staff is courteous and helpful they usually have a decent selection of most outdoors equipment. This one in particular has limited selection of rock climbing shoes. They do not allow dogs. During peak hours the staff can get overwhelmed. read more

The customer service here is exceptional! I needed a copy of my receipt from REI to send to my insurance company, but I did not have an account with REI for them to look up my purchase and was unsure of my date of purchase. The two sales associates, Daniel and Jade spent time looking through the computer system to find my purchase and when they came up with no results, they actually went to the back and grabbed boxes that contained all of their past bike purchases! They spent about 30 minutes looking through every box, and every receipt before they finally found my receipt! I have never met such dedicated and caring staff! This location rocks! read more

I love REI. My family is a REI member which means we paid a one-time $20 lifetime membership fee, and get a percentage back in rebates to spend on cool stuff each year. Also means if we lose a receipt, we can return/exchange any item since it's all on file--this means a lifetime warranty on all REI items. We've gotten everything from backpacks to camping gear to water bottles to bike pedals to bike racks to multifunctional tools here. Customer service is helpful and friendly. Once in awhile, they have a "garage sale" where they sell all sorts of returned items at low costs. Even if you don't need outdoor gear, it's cool to browse the camping gear aisles; portable kitchen sinks and freeze-dried spaghetti and meatballs are so strange and cute. read more

I love REI. I bought a shirt online and they delivered it to the store so I didn't have to pay for shipping. The shirt was a little small and so I ordered another larger shirt online and the customer service person was wonderful and let me have it at 20% off so I didn't lose out on the coupon I used for the original shirt. I then returned the smaller shirt. Some places when you try to exchange for size, make you lose your original discount...not REI. They are as honest and fair as you can get. read more

I purchased a REI trail 40 bag for a trip to Thailand. Very happy with the personalized attention I received from two different employees. They were both very helpful and helped me get fitted so I knew exactly what size I needed. It was definitely overwhelming with all the different kinds of backpacks so having that help was needed and appreciated. This store does have what you need and what you didn't even think about for your next trip. I will definitely be returning here for everything else. read more

My husband loves REI. It's a very nice and big place for all your outdoor needs. They sell the top notch stuff....so their prices are pretty much on the high side. Honestly, I think you could probably buy everything they had cheaper somewhere else. This location is in the same strip center as a DSW, michaels, dollar general, and Academy. I would stop by Academy first to see if they have anything you need for cheaper then go to REI. But that's just me..... read more

Obsessed with REI since I stumbled upon one in Seattle a few years ago. Having missed the ability to have a outdoor gear shop in Florida, I was super excited to have the chance to enjoy the gear hunting in the Houston store. Went to buy hiking shoes and a daypack. The pricing was reasonable for the shoes but the service was lacking a bit compared to my prior experiences. I was able to try on what I wanted but no one was overtly interested in giving me advice about the different shoes. Walked out with a nice new backpack and shoes but would have been nice to get some help from the staff. Maybe it was just an off day. Excellent lifetime membership and so much variety with packs and camping gear. Still a fan. read more

REI has all the basics and more that you need for outdoor sporting activities. I have bought many products from REI over the years and have always been satisfied. They usually have very helpful and knowledgeable sales associates who take the time to go through different products and provide information on pros and cons. REI has a great membership program. Only have to pay once to join and then you get 10% back in dividend money every year! They also offer 20% off coupons to members several times a year and have a one year return policy incase a product doesn't live up to your expectations which they honor hassle free. Climbing is what I do everyday and they carry climbing gear, which to me is worth like about 7 stars. Safety climbing gear is what keeps me alive and still wriggling my toes. They also carry really neat and high quality camping supplies and some children's toys. A really fun store for the outdoors type of human. read more

This store is amazing with how much selection it has in stock! The staff is wonderful as well except I have experienced some issues in the shoe department. I typically wear a size 5 in normal shoes and the staff in shoes told me they do not carry that size in HIKING boots. Note: I told him my normal shoe size is a 5, I know nothing about hiking boots. Therefore, I had to purchase hiking boots from online. About a month later we went back to REI before our hiking trip to pick up a few things. My fiance also needed to purchase his hiking boots. The employee that helped him explained you have to go a whole size up and why. He went into thorough detail helping us. Which is when I learned I bought the wrong size and that REI carried a 6 shoe size the entire time!! I am upset because if an employee has this knowledge why not tell the customer?! Why not just say you are supposed to go up a size in hiking boots?! Now, I had to buy NEW HIKING BOOTS and now I have to figure out a way to sell my old ones.
