But I visited this store recently because I needed a new suit. The store manager assisted me, and she was very helpful and friendly. Hi, my name is Gretchen P, and I am a J Crew addict. I, the eclectic one, have been secretly shopping with them for over twenty-five years. For those of you keeping score, that would catapult us back into the early-mid 80s. And yes, this was back when one could only order by catalog over the phone...and the catalog shockingly resembled a Lands End catalog with basically only pique knit polos with colors such as: Papaya, Mango, Lime, Marine, and Grape. Rich, vibrant 80s colors. The tropical fruit color names have remained for the most part, but their style (except from 2002-2007) is now wearable, a little more trendy, and affordable once again. I'm glad they've moved into Lord & Taylor's old spot, because it's easy to find a parking space underneath. For other old-school Houstonians out there, this would be the "cut through" parking garage. (For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, talk amongst yourselves. For those that do...this used to be the "prime short cut from Westheimer to W Alabama" garage.) In fact, on a busy Sunday afternoon, I was in and out of this garage in thirty minutes. J Crew has the best sales, and if there isn't a store wide sale going on, their sale rack is killer. I found a number of really cute, exceptionally well-made tops and dresses for about $30 a pop a couple of days ago. I love to layer, and since they've gone a bit basic again, this is perfect. I also recently found a great navy pique jersey dress for a great price. It's dressy and has a number of cute details, but extremely comfortable. Another recent dress I found, was one of their Final Sale items. Which means you can't return it. Making me a bit nervous for $80, I'm in the waffling state of "Do I or don't I?" I mention that everything is exceptionally well-made, and just want to bring that up again. I have several items, including coats, that I bought years ago (in one case, fifteen years ago), that I still wear today. Basically, I go here when I want something that is classically simple, is pretty and detailed, is well made, and fits well. Okay, just talked myself into the $80 nonreturnable dress. I recently came out of my J. Crew phase. Phew! It was breaking the bank. However, they have cute tees and tanks with a twist (flower appliques, adornments around the collar, etc.), cardigans of all sorts so you can dress up/down your tank/dress (boyfriend, Jackie, cashmere, petaled, sequined), cute jewelry, shoes, etc. I used to lump J. Crew and Banana Republic together, but J. Crew's clothes are infinitely more wearable for day-to-day stuff. It's still preppy and classic, but more interesting and fashionable. Unlike Melissa T., I've never noticed if the salespeople greet me more or less frequently than white folks, but when they do greet me (if I haven't skulked off quickly enough to the section of my choice--I don't like getting greeted), they're hands off if I tell them I'm just browsing. When I've had a box of stuff I was returning, someone came up and asked if I wanted to keep my stuff behind the register while I browsed. Thanks! J. Crew's stuff is expensive, but they have a good sale section online, and if you check once a week, an extra 20% or 30% off will show up from time to time. Shipping will cost ya, but you can always return stuff to the store. Make sure you check the sale section in store again, because sometimes things will be cheaper in store. The return policy is great--I've worn stuff that had threads coming loose, and have been able to return it (though this was within a one-month window of ordering it). read more

Been coming to this J. Crew for the last few years and have been pleased with every visit but my most recent few. A new manager, Cameron I believe his name was, was very flirtatious with my wife while I was across the store, and even touched her at one point. When I went over to her and made it obvious we were together he became instantly condescending and arrogant, and refused to offer us any assistance. I didn't want to make a big deal of it, and went on my way. I came back a few weeks later to do some Christmas shopping, and he carried the same "I am better then everyone" attitude towards not just me, but all the other customers as well, as well as to his coworkers. I can't believe someone with this type of attitude towards customers is still employed, yet alone a manager. read more

My J. Crew collection is quickly expanding, and beginning to overtake my love for Banana Republic and Gap. First of all, the Galleria location is always neat, tidy, and well-lit. Even the sale section is clean. Sizes and colors are much easier to find when things are organized. J. Crew's pricepoint is much higher than Banana Republic, so I guess people don't feel the need to tear through the whole store in search of a good deal. I'll admit that a even a sale is not much of a sale here, but it hasn't stopped me from scooping up multiples classic cardigans and t-shirts when they offer an additional 30% off. Sometimes when they do this, the items are final sale though, just ask if you're hesitant! Sales associates are friendly, but they don't breathe down your neck. The quality of their clothing is noticeably better than Banana Republic. You'll see a lot less polyester, acrylic, and other uncomfortable synthetic fabrics being used. 15% off for students with valid ID, but I believe this is only on regular-priced merchandise. Try their item locator service if you can't find your size in the store! I found a 100% wool blazer that I loved for a killer price, but it was only available in larger sizes at the Galleria. It was much more expensive online, so I didn't want to order it. I called their locator service, and they shipped it from another store and matched the price, no questions asked. read more

I only go here to shop for or with my boyfriend or any other male. I think their men's selection vastly overshadows their women's. I like to peruse their collection of shorts and cardigans and I always manage to pick up a couple of "staple" items here as gifts...and a year or two later, I am told they hold up rather nicely. The quality is great. The sizing for women at J. Crew is really large and boxy, so I hardly find anything that fits me without looking dowdy or matronly. However, I do like their scarves and have managed to snag a couple. I am also a fan of their v-necks and jewelry. Still, I wish they had more petite sizing (I go to their website for that) and options! Oh, as far as service... with retail, it's hard to get exceptional hospitality. I never expect greetings or "how may I help you?" at J. Crew, but I've been pleasantly surprised the last few times I've gone! They seem to have toned down their snobbiness. read more

Definitely one of the better J. Crew locations I've been too. There looks incredible; it's very clean, well organized, and has an awesome selection. The employees were super kind, made me feel welcome, and were on top of their game. I came looking for a very particular dress, which they were able to give me a few options, set me up in a dressing room, and even hold the item for me while I shopped around the Galleria. It seemed they were a little short-staffed on a Friday night, but they still managed to make an effort to get everything you needed. They also made me aware of all of their Labor Day Weekend promotions without me even having to ask. A+! read more

I am in love with the French Hen collection. Not one JCrew in Denver still had the sweater or anything else PLUS the sweater was sold out online. Travelling through Houston, I thought I'd give this JCrew a whirl. The sales associate greeted me immediately and asked what she could do to assist me. She was bright and friendly without being insincere or condescending. I told her I was in search of all things French Hen and she guided me in the direction. Once she saw me sifting through the rack with the sweaters with abandon, she offered to see what size I needed. I begged her to find me an XL (not on the rack) and she appeared from the back with the XL in hand. I am not a small girl and mostly when I walk into JCrew I do feel out of place and frowned upon. The sales clerks in general rarely offer to help me nor are they nice if they do. I love the clothes or I wouldn't put up with it. So thankful to this location for making a difference! First off, I'm more of a fan of the clothing line than this particular location. I shop in-person here to take advantage of the 15% student discount, to avoid shipping costs, and to actually see the colors. (J. Crew is fond of bright colors, which can look worse in person than on-line.) I feel Melissa T.'s pain. I would say that I frequent this J.Crew 3-4 times a year. Not the most prolific shopper, but I make each visit count. To be fair, I do get to observe good customer service from some sales associates. It's just that I am often ignored except by the minority sales associates. No welcome, no offering of assistance while I browse. The sales associates are usually good about offering to fetch you different clothes while you are in the dressing room. What usually happens to me is that I ask for a different size, wait an awkward 5-10 minutes in the dressing room, and later learn that the sales associate forgot about my request. Basically: Love the clothes. Wish there were better customer service at this J. Crew. read more

J. Crew is pretty nice place. I like to search for future gifts for my boyfriend, who I know really likes the clothing here. The quality of the shirts are amazing, the softness is pure joy. And sometimes you'll find a great cardigan at a good price. For myself I try to stick to the more casual clothes. Vnecks and tanks are best. I don't much like the dresses for 140, but I'll gladly take a cute shirt for 20. They had a sale recently and I was able to snatch up a cute REAL leather belt for 10 and a shirt for 15, it was a steal :) The service is always friendly, as well. I don't get a snobby vibe from them when I walk in like, 'I know this kid can't afford much in here, why is she even here?' Definitely be back for more! read more

I am a HUGE fan of J.Crew, and I honestly did not even know that the Galleria had a J.Crew at all until 2 years ago, thanks to its weird placement. For those who are wondering, the store is on the first floor right next to Borders. I've been to my fair share of J.Crews when I lived in Boston, so I was excited to check out this store in my hometown. This particular store is hit and miss. Sometimes, they have a huge selection of merchandise and shoes (which is AWESOME), but I find that more often than not, they don't carry a lot of things and everything always looks really picked over. Also, I typically have a lot of issues finding things in my size when it comes to bottoms (I'm a size 6-8 in skirts and pants). The sales associates are all really nice for the most part, aside from one or two who always seem to make it obvious that they hate it when I bring in things to return. You see, due to the fact that the store doesn't carry a lot and rarely has merchandise in my size, I do most of my J.Crew shopping online. I'm a petite shopper as well, and since J.Crew doesn't carry petite sizes in their stores, I go online for these options when they're available. All this means that once in a while, I'll bring in 5-6 items that didn't work out to return in the store (why pay return shipping when I can just do it in the store, amIright??). Despite the fact that I neatly organize my returns, go on a weekday to do them because there's fewer customers, and am polite, I sometimes get a sales associate who will huff and puff about it like I'm putting them through the worst thing imaginable. Luckily, the last few times, I've gotten nicer ones. The dressing rooms are always neat, and the associates are great at helping you snag other sizes to try on if you're already in the dressing room without being too pushy. I like someone who's helpful, but hands off, and the majority of associates at this store are just that. For other J.Crew lovers in the Houston area, I'd say to come to the store during the first week when they roll in their new merchandise because that's when you'll have the biggest selection in both items AND sizes! read more

His fake projection of friendliness is undermined by his unwillingness to work with customers with online returns/exchanges when sales associate request his approval behind the scenes. Don't know why this is the case, since online returns do not affect bottom line store numbers. The Highland location is best then City Center comes in a close 2nd. 1 star because the other managers are somewhat helpful. read more

Woman's department is poorly arranged but it's ok because the staff is super friendly. It's probably the Southern Charm, but the staff at this J Crew is by far the friendliest and most helpful I've come across. They are knowledgeable too. My brother in law was shopping here and I grabbed a chair for a bit of a break. I was quite surprised that one of the associates here, Jay, noticed me and offered me some water! WONDERFUL SERVICE. We stayed there for about 40 minutes looking through both the ladies and men's selections. Great store for basics (sweaters, t-shirts, etc.) and dresses. Quality is great. The jeans are nicely made but not great if you have any curves. The shopping experience leaves MUCH to be desired. You walk in there's a big black guy in a suit at the door he may or may not greet you. Little to no acknowledgement from sales staff. When you do interact with sales staff they aren't at all helpful. I've been looking for a sweater that is on the website for the last month. None of them knew what I was talking about and a few acted like I was nuts until I showed them the product on my phone. As a sales associate you should know your products! Only one girl in the store has ever been really helpful by searching a sale dress in the system and having it sent to my home. I won't chalk my treatment in store based on my skin tone but, as a manner of overall mediocre customer service. read more

Allison Salas is the paradigm of excellent customer service and representative of J.Crew. First time I met her she recommended I get the J.Crew credit card. Highly adverse to getting any sort of card, her explanation on how it would benefit and save me a lot money on my purchase changed my mind. When I realized how much I could have earned, saved, and collected from the rewards I wish I joined earlier. Example: free alterations - already worth it. She found the right color suits to go along with the ones my husband bought a year ago. Then there's the time I forgot to pack my husband's suit pants for a business trip to NYC. Not Fedex or UPS could overnight on Sunday without a business account and my husband needed the pants Monday morning. I was at my wits end when I decided to call Allison up at the store and she immediately went to work to find a solution. She searched the system and found there were only 15 pairs of pants in the country in the right size, color, and style (I'm assuming the style is being phased out). There happened to be two in the system in NYC and she went to track them down. Not only did I get the pant on Sunday, J.Crew also sent it by courier to my husband's hotel. Perk of J.Crew card or just great customer service also on the J.Crew TriBeCa store - I don't know. Either way, Allison was a life saver and even though I ended up paying for a new pair of pants, at least my husband didn't have to waste time going to find and buy a completely new suit, not to mention the overnight quotes I got from FedEx and UPS would have cost about the same as the new pants. I wish other service industry people had the same sort of work ethic, product and attitude that inspires confidence and loyalty as Allison does. read more

Yes Jcrew might be a little pricey, but your getting quality clothes. With that said, there are so many discounts and sales to take advantage of. Student discount, teacher discounts, military. Plus there are always sales. To the girl below who complains that it's made for tall white people, that is ridiculous. I don't get on here and complain that nothing at Ecko fits me because I'm white and short! My girlfriend is hispanic, and short and everything fits her. And no one says hi to you when you walk in? Maybe they are busy or didn't see you? I've have had them say hi, and sometimes they didn't. But I was hugged enough as a child so it didn't bother me, I don't know. Anyways, the jeans I have bought from Jcrew are by far my favorites, and the quality is great. I also have a Ludlow suit that fit so well it didn't need to be tailored. I have tons of t-shirts that are always on sale, as well as boxers and sweaters. I would say 90% of my closet is Jcrew now and the staff at the Galleria location have been nothing but helpful. They even have personal stylists that will help you if you aren't sure what to wear! read more

I've never reviewed a clothing store before, but i felt the need to review this one. Jay, the associate who helped me today was PHENOMENAL. You don't even understand how good this man's customer service is. This was the last store in the mall I stopped by and was just looking for a suit. I wasn't so desperate and turned down all the stores before me, but his customer service made me want to buy the suit from here even if it wasn't nice. Good thing was, it was actually really nice and he gave me a lot of bonuses for signing up for the JCrew Credit Card. Jay had to juggle about 5 casual customers in the store while helping another person in the fitting room along with myself. I never once felt abandoned and he made sure that all of his customers were taken care of. I had my suit on in the dressing room and I was just staring at myself in the mirror, trying to make a decision when he stepped in and stayed with me for a really long time to make sure I was making the right choice. I could not recommend this place enough. I've always shopped at Jcrew Factory and this was my first time ever stepping into a normal J crew and I was just blown away at the service. read more

So I rarely review on yelp...but I had to share my WONDERFUL experience at J. Crew. I am leaving for college in a few days and DESPERATELY needed khaki shorts for sorority rush. I went into J. Crew and found the PERFECT pair but the store didn't have them in the color khaki. First, the tall guy working was very helpful and gave his good opinion! THEN, a woman with blonde/brown hair, skinny (I believe manager?) was AMAZING!! The woman called SEVERAL stores trying to find this specific pair of shorts...she said if she found it, she would call me....so after leaving the store and an hour or so later, she called and said she found a pair and they were shipping them from Connecticut. I can not say enough how GRATEFUL I was and was SO impressed by her customer service skills. I will forever rave to all my friends how awesome this location is! I've been meaning to write about my experience at this J.Crew location. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful as I searched for a last minute professional outfit. Although, the manager there was able to assist me, they did not have my size. I left the store to try to find another quick find elsewhere, however I ended up back at J.Crew. The manager as well as one of the store associates called MANY other J.Crew locations to find my size and have it shipped. They were also willing to do a price adjustment to the online price as well! I've never experienced amazing customer service as I had at this location. read more
