Maintaining a nearly century-old home has its challenges. Years of online research informed me that the shower valves were American Standard Aqua-Seal, but the devil was in the details: a whole lot of information gaps. Plumbing forums helped, but were not enough. General WWW searches yielded little besides the few forum entries. AI was no help. Brought the bag o' parts in to Red Supply. Robert immediately identified which parts were Aqua-Seal, which were NuRenu, and explained that the latter were a newer design considered a superior replacement. Also, all my bag o' broaches were Hot, and i needed a Cold. Correct information from a knowledgeable person in minutes, not maybe-correct information from who-knows-who-or-what in hours, weeks, or years. Red Supply had the correct Cold side NuRenu broach in stock at a reasonable price. I walked out with a years-overdue correct solution to this old house's shower valve issue. Amazon can't touch this service and knowledge, nor can Despot or Blows. Put your tech device down. Bring what you know (parts, pictures, and/or words) to Red Supply. Speak to one of the experts there. Odds are good you'll walk out with what you need, else have the correct item on order and will get it soon. Aside: as of the date of this review, the Yelp listing has No Bike Parking. That is true in the sense that there is no dedicated bike rack (that i've seen), yet any bicyclist able to use a standard bike lock of theirs will have no problem finding a place to park and lock up. This place is great! The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful, and intent on figuring out a solution for one's unique problems. I was helped by Robert and Mac to repair my Altmans bathroom faucet. I had 2 problems: a leaky valve and a broken handle stem. The leaky valve required a new valve stem that stubbornly refused to be removed from the valve body. Robert instructed me to soak it in vinegar and then use penetrating oil by first tightening the valve a little bit to break things free and then unscrewing the old valve stem from the valve body. It worked perfectly. Red Supply had the hard to find replacement valve stem in stock. If I had tried to order it from any other business it would have taken forever to ship. As for the broken valve handle stem, it was such a weird design (a splined sleeve with a threaded end) that I had zero chance of finding a part like that. Altmans is not in business anymore and I was contemplating whether to have a machine shop custom make the part, or buy new handles and escutcheons, or buy a new faucet set altogether. I showed the broken parts to Robert who came up with the brilliant idea of using epoxy putty. I tried, and so far it seems to be holding up fine. Thank you for all the help and advice! read more

Today was my first time going to Red Supply to get a replacement cartridge for my old shower faucet. I had gone to Home Depot first but couldn't find the part. One of the employees there actually recommended Red Supply and said they have everything--and they really do! Robert was awesome. Red Supply primarily deals with pumbing supplies. So a few weeks ago when I decided to replace a drain of a vessel sink, I naturally checked Home depot first. Surprisingly for such a big corporation, they only had one type in stock. All others had to be ordered and shipped to store in 2 weeks. A worker of mine told me about Red. He also drove me there. The place is small inside. There's a counter with a few staff members. Unless you know exactly what you're looking for and where it's located, chances are you'll need to get their assistance. It'll probably help if you do a little homework on what you're trying to accomplish, the piece or parts you're looking for, and any additional items you'll need to finish the job. Parts on the shelves do not have prices listed. They will take it back to the counter and check prices on the computer. Expecting to get ripped off, the prices are actually quite reasonable, and in line with other stores. Heads up: They may not be the friendliest, but if you can overlook that, at least you'll have someone knowledgeable to answer your questions and find the right parts for you. And you just might accomplish your task in one trip. In contrast, it sure beats Home Depot when you're waiting in the aisles for someone to come by, or just buy any part and hope it works. read more

Today I walked in looking for an adapter to convert a wall mount faucet to deck mount. Jason (employee) quickly claimed he couldn't help "every thread is different". I was left scratching my head, like a secrete key, like a cryptocurrency code...like a human fingerprint ? What da.... This guy Jason arrogantly stated that every faucet has a different thread and he wouldn't be able to "even begin to figure out the match". I'm a doctor and know very little about plumbing but I can bet there is no such thing as a individualized thread. At the end of the day I went to Home Depot down the street and found a 1/2 inch, female pipe adapter. Jason needs to go back to PCC for a refresher course on plumbing. LOL. read more

I've been here twice . The first time was a bit awkward. There was a weird vibe in the place. The second time was just bad. I walked in and a plumber was trying to return a toilet that wasn't working and the two people behind the counter were obnoxiously talking to him and berating him. They went on and on for 5 minutes talking about him after he walked out to talk to his boss. I stood there at the counter and they could have cared less. So I decided to leave and go somewhere else. Plumber came out to tell me that is would be about $1500 to fix my shower. Would have to change the valves and go through the wall. After some you tube, I Mickey moused it but was not a great fix. Ended up at Red Supply with my faucets. The gentleman behind the counter was patient but gave me a quick lesson in stems and helped me find exactly what I needed, explained why I needed it, and how to install it. I wasn't the only one. Other customers coming and going with photos, getting a consult along with supplies. $35 + 1.50 @ Ace for longer screws- I fixed it perfectly and replaced the handles. After my cold water faucet stopped working, I went to Home Depot and LA Plumbing (Monrovia) in search of replacement parts. The former said they didn't carry the parts; the latter was blatantly unhelpful and made no effort at concealing their disinterest towards my request. Fortunately, Julie and Dana at Red Supply were knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help us find spare parts. Although my faucet didn't have an identifying manufacturer's name, Julie was able to find a suitable replacement while Dana used five wrenches to lock the parts in place. About 2 miles from my house is Red Supply. I consider myself fortunate to know that Red Supply is a place to try for the replacement of older plumbing fixtures not found at one of the big box hardware stores. Originally, my contractor recommended Red Supply and taught me the drill. Yes, bring in the defective part, a clerk will consult a catalog to find the part #, and probably special order the worn-out part. Or, bring in a print-out of what you're seeking---that does facilitate the dialogue, instead of trying to describe the somewhat unfamiliar. Pro or non-pro, be prepared with the list of questions. You'll feel more secure because the clerks stand on a platform behind a counter, so are looking down on the customer. Now that OSH is no more, I gave Red Supply a shot when I had to replace one of the valve stems and the shower diverter in my shower/tub. The crusty gent who helped me (and reminded me of Hank on KING OF THE HILL) found replacements in less than five minutes and offered tips on how to install them.
