When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly hostess who took our temperature. I appreciate the Covid precautions this establishment is taking. Each table is separated by a barrier and 6 feet apart. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. He timed how we received each dish so well. We received a gnocchi dish for being first timers at the restaurant compliments of the chef. It was incredible and I wish I had a whole bowl. We ordered the guacamole which was incredibly fresh. We also got the brussel sprout ceasar salad which was delectable. I'd order this every time. Our main dishes were the chicken piccata and pork tenderloin. I loved everything about the chicken piccata. First the chicken was friend perfectly and juicy. The slaw and spinach were flavorful and you can tell they are using quality ingredients. My husbands pork tenderloin was also delicious but he couldn't stop eating my chicken piccata. Highly recommend this restaurant for a date night or special occasion. It is on the pricey side. We spent about $100 on everything. But you will receive great service and have quality food. The food here is so amazing that I had to come here to write a review. We tried several high end restaurants on our trip to Tennessee and this was our favorite restaurant. What sets this kitchen apart is that whether it's lamb, steak, shrimp or catfish, everything you order is cooked to perfection. Nothing is overdone. Food was excellent, albeit the elk meatloaf serving was sized more as an appetizer. Everyone else had generous servings - porterhouse steak, snapper, eggplant meatballs. We've been to Red Pony a few times, last night most recently for our anniversary. Food was overrated IMO. Definitely flavorful and rich, but I wouldn't say in a good way. I had the watermelon salad and the special (surf and turf). There was so much going on that I felt like I couldn't really taste the quality of the actual food - all of it seemed to be drenched in dressing, sauce, seasonings, etc. My husband loved his entree though (he got the beef tenderloin). After our meal he asked if I wanted dessert there or to go to a "safe" option like Kilwin's across the street, which we know never disappoints. I opted to give Red Pony one more shot and decided to try the blueberry lemon gelato (thinking you can't get dessert wrong), but even that was a favor explosion and again, way too extra for me. Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly but his timing was not great. We had our reservation for 6:30 and ended up leaving around 8:45-9ish, waiting so long especially at the end to get our check. I know art is subjective and so is food, but overall I was disappointed with our experience as a whole and think this restaurant is overrated. read more

We entertained good friends from out of town here at their temporary location. The filet and lamb were spectacular. The only two things to consider here is the old jail obviously was not designed for large groups so the volume in the restaurant is almost unbearable. The other very minor issue was the side I was recommended by the waiter, the potatoes. Literally, four whole baked potatoes on my plate. I wasnt wearing my glasses at the time and I thought they may have been a potato based fritter but after cutting into the first it became obvious. Just a strange 'side' to offer. All in all I will wait for them to return to their old space as the food is worth the exorbitant prices but the atmosphere is a 'no' for now. read more

Four of us went for dinner over the weekend. Two hour wait so went to the upstairs bar area to try and snag a table. Two bartenders served us: Timothy and can't remember other one but had long dark curly hair. They were both fantastic: attentive, friendly, gave great recommendations. Food was excellent. The food was excellent as was the service; our waiter was very helpful and attentive. It is not a fancy place like Perry's or any other of the newer restaurants in the area. It has 2 floors with a bar on both floors. It is in downtown Franklin with its own atmosphere. The only negative, and for us a big one, it was very noisy on the 2nd floor. It was hard to carry on a conversation with my wife. When we left the noise was just as bad downstairs. There were big tables on both floors that were full. This was the source of the noise. My husband and I have been dining at Red Pony for a few years, and it is nothing short of phenomenal. If you want a romantic, quality dining experience with outstanding hospitality - this is your place! They do an amazing job of rotating menu items while still keeping a few of their best dishes. We have truly never had a bad meal or dining experience there. The menu has very unique flavor combinations with a contemporary approach to classic cuisine. Cocktails, amazing -- desserts, even better (it would be a crime to skip their creme brûlée). In my opinion, the portions are appropriate, and although it is usually a higher priced dinner, it's totally worth it. Tonight, we went for my birthday and received SUPERIOR hospitality from Brian and Tyler. Upon arrival, we had arguably the best table reserved (with a great view) and a custom menu for my birthday - I was totally blown away. Our dinner started out great with gnocchi, fresh bread and salad. But our entrees were really disappointing. I had a very specific conversation with waiter about the cut of their filet mignon. I was only interested if it was a thick cut: 1 1/2-2 inches. He assured me it was and that he would speak to the chef about it specifically. But the steak came out 1 inch thick and dry, despite being medium rare. And the waiter played dumb as though we'd never had the conversation. My husband had the roasted chicken and it was bland. Creme brûlée was too sweet - maybe the worst I've ever had. Absolutely not worth the $180 we spent. read more

First of all, we called for reservations on a Monday evening, and were told that it wasn't really necessary...so we arrive ...with 8 people waiting to be seated. OK, things can change. The menu was unexciting. We both had the tenderloin on the risotto with asparagus. A big deal was made about how they seared the meat on high heat, but it was really not that impressive. The risotto was rice, not risotto. and the asparagus was overcooked. Don't get me wrong. This went by pretty quickly at our table. - chicken sandwich - not as spicy as I thought it was going to be, but had some heat to it. - fried cheese balls - so delicious, ooey and gooey! Okay, so many new choices nearby, but went back recently and loved it. Waiter normally works in the bar, but he was personable, charming, and fun without being intrusive. Gave great food recommendations and enough attention to make us feel important. We sat upstairs which is cozier and much more relaxing. Food was wonderful as always. We tried the specials which are sneak peeks to the fall menu and something to look forward to! We were celebrating our anniversary and enjoyed the seasonal Old Fashioned as well as the blueberry galette which our server recommended and it certainly lived up to expectations. Our server was well informed, professional and accommodating as was the other server for our area. Food and drinks were delivered timely and all staff was friendly. My only recommendation/ concern is that there was not a changing table for our third wheel (2.5 month old baby!). The manager (I assume!) helped to find a space, but I was surprised there were not accommodations. Especially as our baby was not the only one in the restaurant. Hunting down a space to change a dirty diaper took a little time, but our thoughtful server had the kitchen slow our food, so at the time of serving, the temperature of the food was perfect. All in all, will certainly be back! Likely not with the baby as she gets older, but you never know! In the meantime, hopefully accommodations can be considered to make more welcoming for all of the young families who reside in Franklin and desire a delicious meal. read more
