Surprisingly good rolls were fresh and generous with the fish. In particular their tuna avocado roll hit the spot. Looks dumpy from the front, and parking appears to be non-existent, but there is a parking lot in the rear. Their lunch special (Mon-Sat 1130-330) is really reasonably priced at $11/3 rolls. Beware however, that it is not on the bound menus, but it is listed on their paper takeout menus. One star also removed because the menu stated the lunch combo came with soup and salad but turned out to only come with one or the other. read more

We love this place and are here at least once a week. We've been coming since they opened, together with our now almost 3 year old daughter who loves it. The waiter always make sure to bring her miso soup with extra tofu, the nigiri comes out fresh, sizable, and delicious. The coconut shrimp roll and saporro rolls are favorites. A great addition to the neighborhood. I'm usually skeptical of sushi in an Asian fusion or restaurant offering Chinese food, but this was an absolute exception. The black tuna roll with spicy tuna, crunch and avocado was yummy and a bargain for the price. The queen roll was decent, if you scooped up the sauce on the side. Singapore noodles had just the right amount of kick and nicely sliced veggies. Service was on the slow side and I had to get my own chopsticks (yes, I'm impatient when hungry), but the yummy food more than made up for it. Please go and support this business! read more

Just moved to Four Corners, and was excited to find a sushi place so close to home. The prices and sushi are good, but I was disappointed with the size of their sushi rolls. The rolls are thin, and consist of 6 pieces. My fav Baltimore place serves 8-piece rolls that are much thicker. I've lived near this area for years and for some reason I never felt like coming in to Red Maple until one day right after lunch time I felt super hungry and didn't wanna go far but I also didn't want "fast food". I drove around for a bit and realized I should check the yelp reviews for the restaurants in the area. Sure enough, Red Maple's reviews were pretty darn good so I decided to see for myself. The place is super clean and surprisingly huge inside. The decor is nice and fancy-ish and the bar looks decent. There were a few tables taken up by businessmen and women and a few guys hung out at the bar as well. The waiter was friendly but quiet and very attentive. I ordered the lunch special of chicken and broccoli with a miso soup and an iced tea. Food came out pretty fast and was fresh and hot. I'm thinking of going back to try the sushi next time I'm home and don't feel like cooking or having "fast food", although the food here was fast and delish! I recommend it. read more

Clean and has a nice decor. The salmon avocado and california rolls were fresh and standard good. Pad thai was also reasonably good (and had bean sprouts on top - I noticed another reviewer said hers didn't have anything fresh on it). A little oversweet but the shrimps were generously sized. Pepper steak also decent. Update: won't be changing my rating. I've had the General Tso's since my last review and it has gotten better. But two unfortunate sushi incidents have occurred since then. On one occasion I ordered one salmon roll and one tuna roll and suffice to say one (or both) of them went right through me. When I called to report this, I was simply told, "No one else complained." Last week I ordered eel rolls. Prior to then, Red Maple's eel had always been well prepared, free of skin and bones. Last week, however, there was not only skin but it was thick and there was lots of it. I fear we have to add Red Maple to the long list of restaurants that started out strong, earned a good reputation, and then stopped trying. read more

We (two of us) went on the Friday after Christmas. The decor is very nice...a pleasant change from the previous restaurant. The restaurant was not busy, we were seated right away, and our waitress appeared promptly to ask for our drink orders. We both ordered wine. The wine menu is short, but has interesting choices, and we liked what we has (Riesling and unoaked chardonnay). I had to ask for water, which was brought promptly, but because we did not ask for two waters, we only got one. Dumb... Food-wise, we ordered the pork gyoza as an appetizer. We asked how this differed from the pan-fried dumplings that were also on the menu and were told it was basically the same. These arrived without delay and were tasty, but different than our expectation. Nice thin wrappers, but very little pork--not like what we typically get in a Chinese restaurant. For dinner, I ordered pad Thai, based on recommendation of a previous reviewer. I had the shrimp version. The dish had about 10 large shrimp that were juicy and not overcooked. The mound of noodles, though, was over-sauced with an overly sweet sauce. The sauce had a few cooked green onions and a couple of wilted basil leaves (yum), but nothing fresh and crunchy, like bean sprouts. Overall, the dish was disappointing. We like the pad Thai at Ruan Thai much better. My partner ordered fried rice with beef. It came lots of tender strips of beef. She liked it. Our conclusion was that we will likely try the restaurant again. Next time, thought, I will try some other dish. We saw other very nice looking food on the tables near us. It is sadly easy to overlook this restaurant because of the geographic location, the name (I've never associated "maple" with anything other than syrup), and the view of the restaurant from the street. But, if you have a chance to go to Red Maple, GO. It sounds nuts but this is absolutely the best sushi I've ever had. I am a sushi addict, it's the type of food I could eat nearly every day. However, I am pretty finicky about freshness, flavor, quality of rice, presentation, etc. Red Maple has ridiculously fresh sushi and really interesting roll combinations. I'm fascinated with some of their more innovative rolls and impressed with the breadth of the menu (I tend to stick with the rolls but other people I've eaten with say the menu is unanimously excellent). I almost always end up taking pictures of my meal, I'm a complete dork that way. The prices, especially given the quality are very reasonable. Me and another person can walk out of there completely stuffed on $45 including tip. The only thing that's irritating is that it's nowhere near a metro so if you're a non-car owning city dweller like me, you have to be strategic about getting up there (meaning bum a ride). So I've been to the place about 5-6 times. The first time was great I came during lunch hour and the place was pretty empty. The service was ok but the food was great so I decided to come back with my family. Whenever I have a bad experience I like to give the place another chance. The last couple of times I've come here the service was horrible. My table had more than one waiter didn't know who to leave a tip to. They've messed up my order and not apologetic at all. We asked for hot tea they brought the tea just left it on the table with no tea cups. The place also has a weird smell. Food is great service is horrible! I've lived in the area for years and this is by far the best Chinese food in the area. It's both the tastiest and highest quality (such as white chicken meat instead of questionable dark meat). I am a big fan of the crispy honey beef, general tsao chicken, and cashew chicken. The shrimp/veggie tempura, dumplings, and egg rolls are great. Delicious. Living in the College Park area the hubby and I were struggling to find a decent sushi place that had complex flavors and wasn't just your usual fish and rice dunked in soy sauce. This place rivals a favorite of ours in the Rockville area (Rolls n Rice), and we are so happy to have stumbled upon it. We came in for a quick late lunch, and 4 rolls + soup only ran us about $40. Service was prompt; we were able to get in and out in about 35 minutes which was perfect for a quick stop off. The spicy salmon roll was the perfect combination of sweet, spicy, sticky and crunchy. The Tom Yum was perfectly sour and chock full of crisp vegetables. The volcano roll was not my favorite variation ( I prefer a mound of spicy fish rising out of the top), but it was still tasty. Reasonably priced, lots of very unique combinations - we will definitely be back! read more

My fiance and I are new to the 4 Corners area after living in restaurant central, Bethesda, for the last 3 years or so. We were very satisfied with the service, prices and unique menu Red Maple had to offer. They had a lot of really original rolls, and I personally like an 'Asian Fusion' type place where I can still order decent Lo Mein and team it up with some delicious sushi. They just got their liquor license and were still on the upswing in figuring out their selection of wines, but we're not picky. The prices were very fair, fare itself was delish, ambiance was modern and upscale but not stuffy at all. We were really happy to have found a gem so close to home. I've eaten here several times, and the experience has always been the same. The space is surprisingly cavernous and rarely seems to be busy. The service is excellent: Very friendly, efficient, and unobtrusive. The sushi is consistenly fresh and well-made, and there are some moderately interesting maki on the menu. It's not particuarly cheap (because sushi never is), but it's entirely within the expected range for such things. There is also a large hot food menu that appears to feature a lot of Chinese-style dishes, but I've always stuck with the sushi. It's something to keep in mind, though, if there's a non-sushi-eater in your party. More than once, I've seen families here where the parents were eating sushi and the children were eating Chinese. read more

I truly love Red Maple - I'm there pretty much every week. The sushi is good, the appetizers are excellent (tempura, lamb chops, steamed dumplings - all really good), and the chinese food is better than anywhere else locally in Silver Spring. The bartenders are my favorite. However, they have GOT to do something about the wait staff. I don't know if it's language barriers, or lack of trying or caring, but when we sit in the main dining area, the servers are less than steller. They get orders consistently wrong, and service is slow. I'm a much bigger fan of sitting on the bar side - even at the booths. It's rare that the bartenders get our orders wrong. However, I see the bartenders not only tending the barside, but they are also managing tables in the dining area as well. I don't see folks helping the bartender staff on their side when they are busy. The turn over seems pretty fast too - and I just don't think they manage their schedule/busy times well. Our last trip (on Father's Day) was pretty bad. The bartender had to manage a ton of tables, and a pretty full bar and the back-up of food was ridiculous. Two meals came out. By the time they were done, we had to sit and wait another 10 minutes before the rest of the food came. We got a generous discount - which was an amazing nice touch, but someone (mgmt??) needs to fix the staffing problems. read more

From the out side it looks slightly run down , but walking in from the beck parking lot ally make you feel like your on an adventure all ready, in side is nicely decorated and welcoming.
