We were really in the mood for lobster. There's a great lobster roll place we go to but it's much further away so we went here. We didn't expect much and that's about what we got. We ordered live Maine lobsters. They didn't take too long but were delivered to our table with no melted butter or extra napkins. We did each have 2 wet wipes and bibs. Our cleaned and split lobsters were only split on the tails, the only part you really don't need help splitting. Our butter took a while as did the extra napkins. The lobsters (we had them steamed) were delicious. Can't say the same for the sides though. The biscuits were almost too salty to eat. The baked potatoes were overcooked and mushy, the broccoli tasteless and the coleslaw was drenched in a nasty, tasteless dressing. Service is not good just order takeout and save yourself the time and stress. I've gone to this location twice on south Lamar and they've disappointed me twice. First time we actually got to be seated but never greeted so we walked out. And the second time we were told they would seat us in 30 or 40 minutes but the restaurant was literally empty. OMG I just want biscuits! And good service I guess that's too much to ask for this location. read more

Arrived there 9-9:30 Friday 7/01/22 evening. Place was open and virtually empty and 2-3 diehards were waiting. Waitress said 45 min for one of the many empty tables and pleaded no wait ataff. I politely asked if we could be seated for the 45 min and have a drink or appetizer. Noooooooo......the had no bartender or kitchen staff either. I asked to speak with Manager and some suited foreigner comes forth and rudely repeated same excuses and the refused service. The owner of this restaurant is obviously getting screwed by incompetent management. A half way decent manager would hire some people instead of whining covid excuses. Food gets one star. Service was a 3.5 and Ambiance if I could would be a zero. The shrimp was bland, did not have the jumbo shrimp as advertised, instead popcorn shrimp that had breading but couldn't find the shrimp. The place smells old and musty. The first table they gave us had a rip seat that you sink several inches into. The crab legs was the smallest legs I ever had, hard to get any meat out of it. So you end up with I felt was 90% shell. We visited this restaurant this afternoon and were very disappointed. This was a return trip after being overcharged for the meal I had on our previous visit. That time the server refused to check with his manager about the correct cost of my meal. I called the manager when I returned home and was issued gift certificate to use when I returned. My wife and I returned today and I tried to explain to the server about what happened on our previous visit. Apparently she became flustered when I asked too many questions and complained to her general manager. The general manager then came over to our table and told us to leave. The general manager didn't even want to hear our side of the conversation as she had already made up her mind! My wife and I eat out daily and we have never been treated this poorly in the past. Apparently this general manager has a problem getting competent help and is bent on "going down with her ship". My advice is to avoid this restaurant until this general manager is replaced. There are many good places to eat in the Austin area and all of them have more competent help than we experienced in this location. read more

I'm fascinated with behind-the-scenes stuff in the restaurant business: Why do corporations like In-N-Out go through the roof, but places your parents loved like Red Lobster get shuffled around like frozen crabmeat? Pfft, if I had the answers I'd be my own dynasty, not some Yelp dweeb posting reviews from a cellphone. Can we cut to the chase please? I'm not the biggest fan of Red Lobster, but I think they deserve more than meh. This particular niche of corporate casual dining has got to be the most competitive in the business, doing good seafood has its own problems, and this year Red Lobster is reinventing itself and their menu as its own independent entity. Give them some time and benefit of the doubt - they're not going to fool around with their Cheddar Biscuits. My "Choose Your Own" combo of garlic shrimp & scallops was decent at $20, I thought the salmon in the lobster/shrimp/salmon thing was surprisingly good, and our Brussel sprouts & asparagus were yummy. But everything we ordered was also glossed with a very thin sheen of oil - nothing that made you go "Ewww" exactly, but pretty obvious nevertheless. Maybe the wood-fired grill needs more seasoning. We did use our website coupon for the Crispy Shrimp lettuce wraps, and if the shrimp had a sprinkling of peanuts for texture, I would have asked for a bowl of rice. I carry my own chopsticks. Incidentally, our server Madison was great. One final note: The two of us wanted to avoid the typical Friday night restaurant slam, so we were here early, just after 5:00pm. It started filling up right after that with families, toddlers, and a whole bunch of retired citizens. My interpretation is you probably shouldn't use Red Lobster to validate your hipster status in mixed company, but you can come here quietly for some value and bang for your buck. Took my boyfriend for a birthday dinner he wanted to have there. Both things he wanted were on the white sheet separate from the menu of specialty items that they said they had. They didn't have the large lobster that was $80 nor the oysters that he wanted. The waiter came back twice each time telling him they didn't have one of them. He was really disappointed which made me dissatisfied bc that was why he wanted to go there. Why bring the extra menu if you don't have the items? What a weak start, we sat down with our 6 month old for a quick bite (which is valuable time for us!) and we waited for 10 minutes, placed a drink order with no app recommendations from the server, waited another 15 minutes before I started to get angry after not even having a glass of water. We had to walk out, the server saw us leave looked at us and didn't say anything. We asked for a manager and he never came. What a waste of time!
