Okay, so we went again to Red Lobster. I made the mistake of ordering my lobster steamed instead of grilled. The waitress said she preferred the grilled when I asked, and she was obviously trying to steer me towards the best option. Through no fault of the restaurant's I got a very chewy lobster whose legs were the only edible portion. This is because the steam gets in the main body of it and ruins the texture. The waitress and manager were really nice and give me a little grilled lobster for free on the side. My date had a nice smorgasbord of seafood, so his meal was fine. Live and learn. I've been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years, always order the snow crab legs. Haven't come here in a few months ,ordered the crab legs tonight they came out, perfectly steamed ; dipped it in the butter, and I almost gagged! They have ditched real butter and its place have substituted something that tastes like movie theater popcorn butter. Totally ruined the meal! I brought it to the waitress's attention, she said she would try and change it but never came back, which I interpreted as movie popcorn butter is as good as it gets now..... I understand you have to make a profit, but to completely destroy a meal to save five cents on one plate is ridiculous I will not be coming back. read more

It had been several years since we had visited this establishment, and we had received a gift card and a Lobsterita sounded delicious. We chose a Sunday evening and were told it was an hour wait for a table. The lobby was full and appeared there was a wedding reception in one of the dining rooms. We sat at the bar and after about 10 minutes the bar tender finally asked us what we would like. He was very busy, but really 10 minutes for 2 beers? But I did watch him make many drinks including several Lobsterita's, two full scoops of ice, all the fixings on a salted rim glass. So an hour goes by and the lobby is just about empty except for a family that just walked in. BTW, T.J. the man answering the phone is still telling people calling in that there was a hour wait. We are finally seated by T.J., in a HALF EMPTY dining room with only ONE menu. Many servers are buzzing around taking care of their customers.... and we wait. The family in the lobby, seated less than 2 minutes after we were. T.J., why didn't they have to wait an hour?? Finally, our server shows up and takes our drink order, leaves some biscuits and water and disappears. Another 10 minutes goes by and she explains how busy the bartender is and she is waiting on our drinks (we had recently left the empty lobby and he was watching TV). So she takes our orders..and then finally appears with the ice half melted Lobsterita's. No need to complain, because I do not have all night. My garden salad arrives, but it is field greens, that should be better explained on the menu as I do not care for weeds. It is hard not to take notice how attentive all the other servers all, refilling glasses, bringing to go containers... and our server has not resurfaced. FINALLY, the food! The fish and shrimp was hot... but our sides were cold and disgusting. Again, don't complain... don't like spit. She makes a quick stop after delivering an order to another table check on us and I requested additional sauce which was promptly delivered. We finish our meals... and wait. Gather our belongings.... and wait. Again... we continue to notice all the servers taking care of the customers... and we just wait. Finally, TJ walks by and we say we are ready to check out and please find the server. AND we wait. So, we finally rise and are walking out when the server appears with a tray full of food... and again WE WAIT while she serves the table. Then she takes our payment AND disappears AGAIN. AND WE WAIT! So please understand your $3.00 tip. I did not realize until I had read other posts about this restaurant that TJ is actually the manager. End of story... or not... A few hours after arriving home, I am feeling very ill and spend the better part of the night in the bathroom purging my last ever meal from Red Lobster. Thank you for causing me to take a day of sick leave to recover from dehydration. So, unless you are needing to loose 10 lbs over night, stay clear of this place. read more

Been here many times but wasn't too impressed this time. We sat next to a loud neighboring table of people who talked vulgar and cursed for the first half of our meal. We were glad when they left. As we walked back to our seats noticed many tables thay hadn't been cleaned. Full of dirty stacked plates. Unsure why this was as there seemed to be plenty of workers moving about. I got a combo plate. The tilapia wasn't flavorful. It's tasted like the rice and popcorn shrimp was overcooked or the oil needed to be changed out. Maybe it was close to their closing time but still not cool. Don't remember the coconut shrimp being so thin. Cutting corners, perhaps? Used to be fluffy and filling. The waitress was friendly but seemed rushed. Likely we'll give RL a break for a while. They missed the mark. read more

I went here on Friday night with my boyfriend because we had a $25 gift card. We got there before the dinner rush so it was pretty empty. We ordered our food, he got the shrimp and some type of steak and I got the sirloin and lobster. We both ordered our steak medium well and our server explained it would have a slight pink center, perfect. When the food came out my boyfriend's steak was all dark brown and dry, more like beef jerky. The server came back to check on us and he looked at my boyfriend and said "that's way too well done isn't it?" My bf said yes and that he felt bad because he has never sent food back before. So the server took his food back to have it recooked. I sat there trying not to eat my food because I didn't want to eat until my bf had his dinner, but then he insisted I eat because my food was getting cold. It took about 10-15 mins and the server brought his steak back out and it looked fine. But we each had a $35 meal that we ate alone. I should mention that my steak was very red so I only ate around the edges. I actually worked for a red lobster about 15 years ago. We would have offered $ off of the check or a free dessert or something. Nothing was offered, not even an apology. For the cost of the food, the steaks weren't good. We won't be returning. read more

Okay let's be real here. This is a chain restaurant that's been around a gazillion years on South Lamar. The carpet smells like it's been at a Chucky Cheese since 1984. It's probably the original carpet since they opened. Also, who puts carpet in a restaurant?! I happened to download the Red Lobster app to get on the "waitlist" but we still ended up waiting 15 mins to be seated. All the while having to smell what reminded me of a bowling shoe while waiting. The lobster tank looked like it needed to be cleaned. I literally turned to my husband and asked, "should we leave?" But alas we wanted the endless shrimp and were finally seated. Our server Eric deserves a solid 5 stars for service and friendliness. He does not deserve to be among the disparaged other staff members in this place. So where to start? Okay, so my boyfriend got a gift card to red lobster so we thought it would be a great night to visit.... we were wrong. I work in the restaurant business and I know there's something wrong with the establishment if it's a Monday night and there is a ten minute wait for a table for two people. So we waited and finally got a table, while we were walking to the table I noticed that all the tabled we passed were so messy, it's like they did not have bus service. When we got to our table, our waiter Josh greeted himself with no eye contact and was very off putting and when we asked him about menu items he really did not know..... I am not sure if this is his fault or the fault of the management for not properly training him.. the only good part about our experience was the food, the service was just so bad. We payed 85 dollars for nothing. Will not be going back and will be telling others that it is not worth the wait or the money. I just went to Red Lobster and ate a mess o hot cheesy biscuits, a lobster queso appetizer, a couple of glasses of a very decent Sauvingion Blanc and a GIANT two pound live steamed Maine lobster and I am so Happy. Fresh steamed live Maine lobster with all the drawn butter and lemon wedges you want. Did I mention that it was 2 pounds? Yes, the standard is a pound and a quarter, but you can order a larger one if you wish. Add cheesy biscuits, an excellent baked potato with butter and sour cream on the side, and decent wine and I have to say that I can't think of a single place I would rather eat in this town. The two of us stuffed ourselves silly for under $100 with live Maine Lobster. There is nothing wrong with that. So not trendy. So not hipster. But it was really good. read more

Now I probably wouldn't even be updating this review except that a new addition to the menu caught my eye: Lobster Rolls. This topic pops up on Yelp less infrequently than Chicago pizza but still enough that I noticed it. So for better or worse, here are your lobster rolls in ATX. I know these are a New England delicacy. I have never before eaten them. Never been in that area. I don't know if these are good or bad comparatively. I will say for Red Lobster it was an enjoyable diversion from the norm. You receive 2 toasted buttery buns filled with lobster that's slick with mayo and some celery. I liked it personally. But I would also like to make my own sometime because it seems so easy. Service was great. One thing about RL, is service here always exceeds chain restaurant expectations. "We're going out to eat," said my friend hesitantly. "But you can't tell anyone where." By now I was very curious, since an invitation was on the line. I promised I wouldn't. Let me just say, the parking lot was PACKED. I guess it's a popular place for a Saturday night. We walked in and there were about 6 workers standing at the host podium. Turns out they were all hosts, not waiters waiting around, like we first thought. The service was actually pretty good. Our waitress said that she'd be "providing [us] with excellent service tonight." That sealed the deal for me and the yelp review started happening. Like I said, it's been years since I've fed the seafood lover in me (well, at Red Lobster). I was totally overwhelmed by the huge menu. Our waitress was helpful and patient with my many questions. I'm sure she thought my friends (nope, no names... I said I wouldn't tell) had me on a pass from the mental institution. The cheddar biscuits are still good. The rest of the food? Well... it's Red Lobster. I went in with certain expectations. (My friends wanted to go for the crab legs, their most recent addiction). I had salmon, which tasted like it had been frozen and re-heated. It wasn't great. My crab legs were okay, although kinda measly on the meat. Overall, the food is just, well, just average. But they let us wear bibs (we thought maybe everyone else in the restaurant would follow suit, but they did not), and they let us laugh loud. And we had fun. So therefore I'm awarding a whopping three stars. But I'm still not allowed to say who I went with. So things started out on a bad note when the host led us to a table right next to a party of 20 with about 5 children under the age of 5. We thought about saying something but the restaurant seemed pretty packed and it didn't look like there were very many other tables. The screeching of the children and the loud storytelling by the adults pretty much killed any ambiance that could have been gleamed from dining at Chez Lobster. One guy was exactly like that guy in Office Space at the party who talks about showing a chick his "O face" with the loud, embellished stories about the bar fights he's been in and the totally carazy stuff he's done while drunk. This is at what looked like a family gathering too. Way to talk about cupping your nuts for protection during a drunken fist fight in front of the children and the rest of the restaurant Uncle Jason. As for the food, if you don't like seafood you will not survive here. Even the baked potato has seafood in it. It's pretty standard fare in the same vein as Applebee's and those type places except with fish. But also more expensive than Applebee's. Dinner plus tip was about $45 for two people. And if you're planning to have a get-together of 15+ people, try doing what my family does and have a pot luck at someone's house. It's a lot cheaper and you piss off a lot fewer people when your children take to letting out random screeches like a rabid monkey. Red Lobster was that rare treat I had as a child after church on Sundays. The food was soooo good back then. I don't what's happened to Red Lobster. The food has become horrible. The server even worse. Here's what wrong with this Red Lobster.... 1. Soggy, nasty, old lettuce in the caeser salad. 2. Overcooked everything 3.. Bad server...and when I say bad I mean I saw her twice during our visit, did not clear plates or offer cheese biscuits until we were done eating. It wasn't even crowded. 4. Kinda sad :( My bf treats me with Lobster in exchange for sexual favors, so this past weekend I was treated to Red Lobster. We both ordered basicly the same dish of Lobster and Scalops (both woodfire grill and his was Cajun BBQ) I've been to other Red Lobsters in the past and normally the lobster is really soft and buttery but this lobster was rubbery and chewy. I realize it's not considered 'in vogue' to like chain restaurants, especially here on Yelp, but this Red Lobster does it right every time. So I HAD to update my review. Even two years after my first review of this location, a quality experience is still what I experienced and this time it was for TOGO. I ordered through one of the food delivery apps (not Yelp's so I won't mention its name, but they're great too) My biggest hesitation ordering TOGO food is that it can sometimes get cold and cold seafood is definitely not preferred. But I ordered anyways and I'm sure glad I did! I ordered my standard favorite, the combination 3 choices: crab legs, shrimp scampi and coconut shrimp. I gave instructions for extra butter and sour cream on the side as well as some modifications for my side salad. May I just say, it was perfect. The only thing they left out was the Pina colada sauce for my coconut shrimp, but I felt so grateful to have perfectly steamed snow crab legs, warm biscuits, and a whole lot more that made me feel as if I was getting to dine in that I didn't care. TL;DR The Lob on Lamar is consistent quality. Dine in and TOGO are great. Eat here. You'll be glad you did. read more

This location is extremely nice. I know this place has been here for some time now, but the inside looks brand new! I was really impressed with the friendliness of the staff and how quickly we were served. The waiter was on top of his game too. No question to hard for him to answer. I think his name was Comer. In any regard I had the Portofino Seafood Bake. Very Very Good. I certainly would recommend it to anyone who wants a little bit of all kinds of seafood. House Margs are $6 and worth every penny. When I saw the lunch prices, I was kind of excited that I was going to get a deal. For $6.99, you get an undisclosed number of battered shrimp, a side, a salad, and unlimited biscuits. Yay! Nay! The shrimp were tiny (about the size of 3-4 "popcorn" shrimp) and mushy and the ceasar salad had a hint of rotting fish (which I assume was bad anchovies?). What can you say about a national restaurant chain? The food is good (not exceptional), the service is pretty good, usually. The hot cheese-biscuits are outstanding, and the prices are fair. I haven't had a bad meal or bad service at this location. All in all, this is one of those restaurants you don't have to question whether you'll go back; you will! 03/21/2013 I come here often with this visit the waitress at the bar asked If I wanted a drink while I wait. Then a few minutes later. I believe it was a supervisor, I didn't get her name but shes about 4 '11 short hair heavy set woman, came around the bar to bartender said "Make sure you charge her for that drink". I'll admit, I'm not a big fan of the Red Lobstar. I love the cheesy biscuits and the lobsters awaiting impending doom in their watery prison, but it's not GREAT seafood. I give this store a higher rating because the staff is so incredibly friendly that it made me tip them more. The hostesseses were all super nice and friendly-chatty. The server was funny. Also as we were leaving with our togo box, a random server stopped us and grabbed us a bag. Good service. Ok food...at least for me. Red lobster is delicious. Sorry, not sorry. The biscuits are insane, I could eat like 47 of them. The bar menu is expansive and well priced, (a Tanqueray martini is like $6, which is a steal). The seafood is fresh and prepared well, if not sometimes a little salty. The service is always really good! Now keep in mind, I am in no way comparing this to the best seafood restaurants in Austin, just saying we have had some pretty delicious dinners here. We came for Lobsterfest and my plate was so yummy! I got the dueling lobster tails, which was two petite split tails stuffed with delicious seafood stuffing and broiled. It also had a split rock lobster tail filled with lobster Mac and cheese and side of green beans with sundried tomatoes. Plus a side Cesar salad! When people rate chain restaurants lowly because of food consistency I can't help but wonder what they expect. "Oh, these Cheddar Bay Biscuits taste just like the ones at the other Red Lobster? And you didn't like those either? Wow, how surprising..." Chain restaurants are not for everyone, and that's totally okay. But this is a decent Red Lobster with okay food at okay prices. Our server was sweet, although I'm a little bummed she didn't bring us the promised bag for our leftovers.
