We got in line around 11:55am on a Sunday. We put our names down and were told it would probably be 1:45 before we got a table. Very accurate! We got a text at 1:44. We were seated at the bar. It took a while for the food to come after we ordered, but it was worth the wait. The burger is incredible. So juicy. The cheese is perfection. Love the crunch from the onion. And the caramelization on the bun is chefs kiss. Friendly service too. Can't wait to come back!

Nice cozy tavern with a simple menu, but one of the best burgers in the city. It's a thick patty with cheese and onion -- no crazy sauces or over-the-top toppings, just really well done. We also started with the fresh seafood, including the shrimp cocktail and oysters, and both were excellent.

Came here around 5:30 with some friends and ended up waiting about an hour since it was pretty crowded. The front desk girl let us know ahead of time that the wait would be that long, so it was expected and we didn't mind. It felt like the kind of place that usually takes reservations. We ended up sitting outside and the weather made it even better. Our waiter was very attentive and kept our water filled the whole time. Food came out at a good pace and everything felt smooth overall. Even though we weren't seated inside, the vibe was still really nice. I ordered the Red Hook Tavern burger cooked medium rare and it came out exactly how I wanted. The fries were really good too, loved that they were regular potatoes and not sweet potato fries. Only thing I would say is I wish the burger had a bit more to it like lettuce. It did come with sliced pickles which was nice though. Overall I really enjoyed the food and experience. I would definitely come back and try other dishes since everything else we saw looked really good

The long awaited reservation finally came! After placing notifications on OpenTable for 2 weeks. We took whatever time we got. Upon walking in we were greeted by the hostess and welcomed. The inside is cozy old school NYC vibe feel. We had bar seats, the bartender was very attentive. First we started with the blue cheese wedge with bacon, it was pretty good the bacon was thick and smoked. The pappardelle pasta with the mushrooms and sour cream was unique, I have never tasted a sauce like this, loved it. Then the burger which definitely ranks top 3 burgers I've ever had, flavorful and juicy, would def come back for the burger.

I really hate to say this but Red Hook Tavern may be overrated. I snagged a same-day 5pm reservation on one of the first warm weather days of the year! Which is great because I had been searching for a few weeks for a reservation to no avail. Pro tip: If you are looking for a reservation here, check OpenTable randomly and see what they have! The service and atmosphere was some of the best. A very nice hostess seated us and we sat at the bar. The bartender was friendly and attentive. We ordered the French onion soup, two burgers (cooked medium rare), and rainbow cookies for dessert. The french onion soup was amazing!! 10/10 no notes. Once we finished the soup, we waited almost 25 minutes for the burger to come out which was surprising but totally fine as they were busy and this was their first seating. The burgers came out and they looked great, but the taste left a lot to be desired. First, the burgers were really undercooked, even for medium rare, which was disappointing given the wait time. The burger also tasted a bit like nothing? I so badly wanted to taste the meat and cheese and I really just did not. If I hadn't just enjoyed the flavors of the French onion soup, I would have been worried I was coming down with something! Don't get me wrong the burger wasn't BAD, but it was diner-level quality at best. On to the rainbow cookies. I was really excited about these but they were served cold out of the refrigerator and I could tell from the taste that they were stored in a refrigerator with other ingredients. There was a faint onion taste--yuck! (You know when you leave a banana too close to your sandwich and your sandwich tastes like banana? Think of that but rainbow cookies and onions!!) Overall, service was good but I food-wise, I think Red Hook Tavern is resting on its laurels. Don't think I'll return :(

Great burger spot nice inside as well . But really small take out menu . Not sir what they don't expand it and or just make it like Everywhere else . But that's their business !! Pun intended . Burger was juicy perfectly cooked .

So glad was able to try this place!! I felt very sufficiently "whelmed". I think it lived up to the hype of a GREAT burger, but it wasn't life-changingly good. The meat quality was super good and the bun was great. The lack of toppings was fine given meat quality. It was $32 which was super steep. I think the fries were very OK, and honestly the famous cookies were not great and super hard. The service was fine, not outstanding but nothing wrong at all. Vibe was great though, super cool tavern and interiors. They did get the burgers wrong slightly, saying one was medium well and one was medium rare while it was the opposite. Not a big deal at all though. Overall, well worth a try and visit if you can get a rez, but waiting hours feels excessive. I'm not confident for the burger with the price point and average fries that it is the best in NYC, but it is definitely delicious.

The Red Hook Tavern burger has similar hype to LeBron James coming out of high school. It's #1 on nearly everyone's best burger in New York list. So naturally I was skeptical. Can one meat frisbee really be that much better than all the other ones? I walked 24 minutes from the nearest train stop and arrived 12:30 on a Thursday with my big homie, and we got a seat at a tiny bar stool in the corner. The ambiance feels like a cozy cabin that belongs somewhere in the mountains. We ordered oysters ($24) and 2 burgers ($32 each) that came with fries. Huge. We were filled with anticipation, as we had just hit Minetta Tavern for their famous Black Label Burger the day before, and questioned if this one would really be that much better. When this burger came... I mean talk about passing the eye test. It doesn't rely on gimmicks or a fancy build, the beauty is rooted in its simplicity: A dry aged beef patty topped by melted golden cheese that softly drapes down over a dark seared crust, contained by a glistening toasted sesame bun that's sturdy, but not overwhelming. It looks the way the human memory wants a burger to look. No excess, no flash, just BUCKETS. The meat frisbee weighed in at a hefty 12.3oz, which is 1.3oz above the median NYC burger thus far. The cottage-style fries came in at 5.1 oz. The crazy thing is, it tasted better than it looked. The thick dry-aged beef patty was seasoned well and griddled perfectly to where it had a rich crust while maintaining a juicy interior. The cheese and onion balanced the richness of the beef, while still letting it speak and be the star. I was sitting there pondering if I had ever even really had a burger before. It's a generational talent. It had so much motion that I think it might have broken the Richter scale and given the ring camera a "motion overload" error. I had to pop a dramamine right after. I'm hesitant to give a 10, as I've never given a 10 for anything, but this is a 10. It's the best burger I've ever had, it's my 2018 LeBron, my 2011 Tom Brady, my 1991 Julia Roberts. Fries were also a respectable 8/10. This vs all other burgers was a clear "there's levels to this..." performance. I'm talking Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin in 2009 kind of levels. I had it almost a week ago, and I'm still thinking about it. It changed me. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Very good burger and fries, not very good price. $42 after tip for a burger and water is by no means acceptable tbh. The burger was definitely tasty and I enjoyed it, but this is for sure a one-and-done for me. Waited an hour and a half to be seated which also was rough.

{ French onion soup $18 } Rating: 4.75 / 5 The ultimate winter comfort food! Rich, beefy broth packed with perfectly caramelised onions and topped with gooey Gruyère. The crouton soaked up all that flavour without turning soggy, and best of all, it's deeply savoury but not overly salty. A total win! { Dry-aged burger $32 } Rating: 4.5 / 5 This is what everyone comes for, and yes, it delivers! The dry-aged patty is juicy, beef-forward, and grilled to a flawless medium rare. Not quite as punchy as Emily's, but still really satisfying. Love the thick raw onion slice under the patty, zero soggy bun problems here! { Carbonara $26 } Rating: 4.5 / 5 Surprisingly authentic and very well executed. The sauce is rich and velvety, clearly made the proper way - egg yolk and Parmesan only. Generous chunks of fatty guanciale are fried to crispy edges, adding deep savoury flavour. Many places oversalt this dish, but Red Hook nailed the balance! - - - - - - - - - Overall Rating: 4.5 Will I be back? Probably! To be fair, there are other NYC spots serving burgers just as good without the hour-long train + bus trek. That said, the solid appetisers and pasta are good enough to keep me motivated.

Who would've thought that this place would be so popular even on a wintry Friday? Walked in with a party of 4 around 1 pm and the restaurant was already full, but luckily, we didn't have to wait too long - just 15 minutes or so. The interior is really tight, which isn't the most welcoming for big, puffy jackets. Maybe that's also why we heard a lot of glass breaking throughout our meal; it'd be so easy to knock down a cup or plate! The menu isn't very extensive, which usually means that the restaurant is confident in their dishes. Looking at past menus and the menu in front of me, it seems that the restaurant only rotates out a few dishes every so often. The burger - $30 is quite an expensive burger for Brooklyn, and I think it was one of the most expensive items on the menu. However, the taste didn't justify the price. My husband got well done, which may be the reason for the dryness, but the kitchen should be able to execute a well done burger just as good as a medium rare. A lot of comments rave about the dish, so I'm inclined to believe they just don't get well done, because nothing about it was doing it for us. Burger chains like Shake Shack and 7th Street Burger are able to serve well done burgers that are tasty, so it's definitely doable. The fries were really good though. Fish and chips - The fish was very disappointing in the flavor department. It was too bland that it heavily relied on the sauces to give it any flavor. The fries were the same as the burger dish, and really good. Capatelli - The oxtail ragu was my favorite dish. The oxtail was broken up into small pieces that melded with the sauce. There was a slight spicy kick to it. Carbonara - I have mixed feelings about it. The sauce was delicious, but the texture of the pasta could've been slightly softer. The meat was way too salty but at the same time, it added another flavor profile to the dish. Portion size was relatively small French onion soup - Expected it to be cheesier, but maybe it's good that it wasn't too cheesy because the overall dish tasted very light (not too salty or heavy from the cheese). Would get this again. Half dozen oysters - I liked that the oysters came with three different sauces (apple cider, shaved ice with pickled juice and chili oil, and hot sauce). The staff is very friendly and were quick to clear the table. Parking wasn't too difficult in this neighborhood, which was relatively quiet with not much going on.

Nice and quick service and great burger and fish and chips! I had a reservation thankfully so got seated immediately and the food didnt take too long to come out. The burger was very good but I wouldn't say best burger I've ever had and the fish and chips were fresh and delicious. The fries had a really good crisp to them too! A cute little restaurant but I really wouldn't try to have more than 2 people walk in!

worth the trek! for real what a gem that everyone knows about but honestly worth the hype. came with my friend and shoutout she snagged a reservation because it was crowded and seating is so limited i think we counter 20 for table and 10 for bar we ordered a bunch of things to share: oysters, fried ball thingys, burger, pasta. all incredible but special shoutout to the BURGER this is a damn good burger. pasta was a hidden gem- they make it fresh everyday and it shows w the flavors def would recommend and return

For the burgers, some pictures show cottage fries and some pictures some 3 steak fries, is it random? 3 fries seems too little.

I had fantastic (and at very nice portion) cottage fries

Do they have heat lamps outside?

    Yes. They do

    Is a reservation required?

You can make a reservation through Resy or you can take a chance as a walk-in/waitlist, which seems to be in the over-an-hour wait on some nights. Try to get there early.

The Cocktails: Expertly crafted and sophisticated. It was refreshing to have drinks that were perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. The coffee was served alongside dessert, it was rich and the perfect finishing touch to a wonderful meal. While the Filet Mignon was a popular and well loved choice among our group, and the Meatballs were universally raved about for being truly excellent, the real showstopper for me was the Chicken Parmesan. I don't typically order steak, so I was delighted by this choice. The cutlet was impressively sized yet elegantly thin, showcasing the high quality of the chicken. It was served with a side of creamy mashed potatoes, which was such a comforting and delicious pairing. It did remind me of visiting Germany believe it or not like a schnitzel style cutlet but still very italian if that makes any sense. If you visit, you simply cannot miss the fried eggplant appetizer with burrata. It is divine! This dish alone would be the perfect excuse to drop by for a casual dinner date or a "girls' night out" centered around appetizers, wine, and to try a dessert. I would absolutely return!

The fried calamari could've been less oily, as this took away from the crunch; also slightly overcooked. Baked clams were decent. Salmon was cooked to perfection. Pizza was great! They reheated for us, since our group was too busy chatting. Desserts - phenomenal! Drinks- ehh. Brunch menu - French toast was decent. The salmon over hash brown , was lacking a touch of something , couldn't pinpoint what was lacking. Chicken and waffles, decent, wasn't the best I've had. Service- jonathan was our waiter during brunch and also our bartender. He's GREAT! During service dinner, we had a female waitress and I felt she lacked attention to details and couldn't flag her down when we wanted something. Overall, service is a hit or miss , I guess? If you're looking for an intimate dinner, nope. Love their vibes and music playing in the background. You might need to "shout"'to hear
