In the extremely unlikely event that you're reading on May 11 this early enough to get to the last day of the Swamp in the City fest at Strong Rope, you should check it out (pay what you wish, $40 suggested). SitC doesn't have its own Yelp listing, but Strong Rope is an outstanding venue for this unique Louisiana music showcase. The spacious waterfront location is unparalleled. The outdoor park is the hook but the stage is viewable from an indoor section. I was delighted to find out about the adjacent Red Hook Cidery, I have no idea if it's a pop-up or permanent. Geography notes: Red Hook can seem dauntingly far but it's not that bad if the buses are working well. The ferry is far more glamorous but for speed the B61 that connects to several trains might work better.

I love Strong Rope. I've been here for music festivals, for birthday parties, for private event buyouts...but most often, just for a regular good time. This past weekend, we had a rare 60 degree day (for March 1), and everyone had the same idea: let's go drink beer by the water in Red Hook. It was packed, and with good reason. We ran into some friends, had a great time, and by the time we left, people almost killed each other to take our table...so get there early. They have all the beer, and it's tasty. I love the Pub Ale and the Liberty Gold if I just want a beer beer, the dark mild nut brown esque "A Mild Journey", the delicious berry sour they have on special right now, the dry cider, and more. I have friends that swear by the Hazy IPA, but that's not my bag, baby. They also have wine in cans, spirits, and more. If drinking beer makes you hungry, Strong Rope has Empanada Papa slangin' excellent empanadas by the door (sometimes a truck of some kind out back), but they also don't mind if you bring in any other kind of food you'd like. You can also bring babies and/or kids. I didn't want to bring mine, but I think it's frowned upon to leave small children home alone.

Nice brewery, interesting area. Needed a better selection of beer, I think they had a more interesting choice of canned beers than draft. Draft only had IPAs and a couple of lager type beers. We came the day they were having a dog Halloween dress party so outside was a little loud with barking dogs. Nice view of Laby Lib, even saw a cruise ship departing.

We've been to Strong Rope a MINUTE ago and had a great time. We saw that they did a collab with our friends over from Kato Sake Works and we HAD to pick that up. We were on the way to Rockaway and picked up a four pack to go. Can't wait to be back in NY and hang at Strong Rope again! Beer was phenomenal by the way!

Went to visit Red Hook and this was the first stop I made. They have a nice outdoor area by the water and have board games available. I had one beer and it was good. They are right next to a Cidery so if you don't like beer you can get cider. Overall it was a nice brewery and if I'm in the area again I would stop by and get another beer.

A nice view of the waterfront, plenty of seating and a food truck outside -- music was great. If you're headed out to Red Hook, would definitely make this a pit stop on the itinerary. Beer lines can be long but they're efficient and move fast!

Great place with lots of fun seating and a bookshop on an honor system, tasty beers, insiders, and dogs are allowed and not just service animals, and they had a pop-up for Korean kimchi barbecue meat on skewers. This is a great area. This is a beautiful place in red Hook right off the water and you can see views of the Statue of Liberty and you'll see boats going around and you'll feel the breeze and there are lots of wineries and insider places and Even a glass making store. You'll see old historic buildings where it looks like you have a carriage house and barn doors, which are very beautiful and characteristic and coupled with modern windows. It has a really nice feel to it. The chef for the Asian pop up Olivia was great and his food yummy! The kimchi was better than what I could make...The kimchi ($3) with galbi ($6) and pork belly ($5) on a stick along w the flight of beer for 4 ($18) was very good. Great hangout spot w bathroom and charging stations.

Loved stopping by this brewery in the Red Hook area of Brooklyn. It sits right on the water with a view overlooking the Statue of Liberty, which makes you realize you are in NYC. It's a large industrial building with lots of seating inside and out. The bartenders are super welcoming and helpful. I wanted a Hazy IPA and others with me wanted a lager, a pilsner and a blonde. They had them all and they were all tasty.

Strong Rope Brewery is easily one of my favorite spots in Brooklyn, and I find myself coming back several times a year. One of the best parts is that you can bring your own food--I love grabbing some Italian sandwiches to pair with their excellent beer selection. The combination of great brews, good eats, and the stunning views makes for an unbeatable day. The vibe is casual yet chic, with a cozy, vintage charm that feels like it was curated straight from an antique store. There's plenty of outdoor seating, making it an ideal place to relax, whether it's for a laid-back afternoon or a mellow evening. If you're looking for a brewery with character, great beer, and a welcoming atmosphere, Strong Rope Brewery is a must-visit. I couldn't recommend it more!

This place can get BUSY so try and get there kind of early to grab a table outside or inside. Thankfully they have a food truck right outside and typically have a vendor inside as well. Place is also pretty big and there are several events going on at once. For example they have a mini library section where you can Venmo the author money for books on a shelf.

This place is everything a brewery should be. Live music? Check. Table games? Check. Well priced beer list with lots of variety including seasonal favorites? Check. Friendly service? Check. But the real reason you're here is for the views. One of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen was here at Strong Rope Brewery. I'm not one to clap for a sunset but if I were, this would be the one. If you're looking for a romantic date spot, this is it. The line to order here did get pretty intense on the Sunday afternoon that I spent here, but it moved incredibly quickly and was all in all pretty painless. If you're not sure what to order, bartenders are accommodating with samples, and don't rush you to make a decision (despite the line...which may actually be what caused the line now that I think about it...). Also, the Red Hook Lobster truck was parked outside for the folks that were hungry. Anyway, my Pilsner was fresh and crisp, vibes were immaculate. Will be back again. Highly recommend!

Amazing views since it's right on the water. It's a huge space with plenty of seating inside and out. Beer comes in 5oz, 10oz, 16oz, so it is possible to make your own flight. My favorite that I tried this time was the Key Lime Gose, which was done in partnership with Steve's. Light and crisp. Perfect for a hot summer day!

Worth the trip! We love craft beer and this one didn't disappoint. From the views to the super relaxed vibe, this was the perfect experience. The beer was delicious!

A HAITIAN PIZZA BAR OF SORTS…read more One of my co-workers suggested that we meet her after work because: (1) It's walking distance from work...The equivalent of taking the long way home. (2) We both needed a drink after an eventful, extra long work shift. We got the rum punch which was good but too strong for a Tuesday. (3) I had a craving for Haitian-style herring so we shared a herring pizza. Please note I approached this slice with the most apprehension that I ever had in life and was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. Their pizza crust has an interesting crunch and flakiness to it that definitely giving homemade with a unique flair. The sauce was holding on to the generous amount of mozzarella while the herring and peppers were the shining star toppings. I enjoyed it so much that I would definitely order it again. If you are looking for a chill bar atmosphere with reimagined Haitian food classics to nosh on then come on in. Thursdays might not be so chill because it's Dance Thursdays and a DJ will be spinning Konpa chunes. It's work a try.

On the positive side, it's a very spacious bar and I saw board games stacked up, which tells me it can be a fun place to hang out. Now to the not as great. I sat at the bar and after looking at their cocktail menu, I ordered a French 75. You can imagine my surprise when I was served a drink in a single rocks glass which is basically what you'd serve an old fashion or other cocktail in. A French 75 needs to be in a flute. And at first, I thought maybe they don't have any flutes. Which still perplexed me because why have a French 75 on the menu if you don't have the right glassware. But I looked behind the bar and lo and behold, saw a flute. So not sure what that was about. The drink itself was ok. The other weird thing is that when I ordered, she rang it up and handed me the handheld device to pay. Since I was sitting at the bar, I'd expect to at least be asked if I wanted to open a tab or to just wait. Payment before the drink was made just rubbed me different. And of course, gratuity was tacked on, also rubbed me wrong. Because while I planned to tip, adding your own tip automatically to 1 drink is icky.

It seemed like she didn't want to be there and anytime I asked questions about the beer, she had an attitude like I was bothering her. I ordered a flight and I enjoyed the beers. The decor was simple, felt a bit cold and the vibe was chill. It's a small interesting space, when we arrived it was just us and 2 other small parties. When we left, there was a chaotic stroller party happening in the back. The brewery filled up pretty quick on a Saturday afternoon, with one slow moving angry woman pouring beers, it took awhile to get a beer. If the woman behind the bar had provided better customer service, I might have left a higher scoring review. I really wanted to like this place. Will I be back, probably not.
