Definitely a fun brewery that's both kid and dog-friendly. I'm not a beer drinker but they do have some cocktails on the menu for $15, which today is totally reasonable. They don't have food but you can bring your own. Parking is very difficult so plan accordingly. read more

Other Half is probably my favorite brewery in the USA. This trip I made a special effort to finally get to their original brewery and tap room, which was a wonderful experience. It's in a more industrial part of Brooklyn near a highway, but there are other breweries and fun beer bars nearby. I was there during a workday morning, and the place was bustling with new cans coming in and filled beer going out, sometimes right through the bar. The bartender Ali was immediately welcoming and friendly, giving me and some other patrons free pours of various special beers. I also had a couple flights, first of ones only pouring there, second of ones at Ali's recommendation that I had missed previously. They have the largest selection of OH beers over any of their other locations. Prices are reasonable for the quality. They have a nice sized merchandise area and beer to go. Snacks are available for purchase, otherwise it's bring your own food. If you're a beer fan, this is a must visit brewery in New York City! read more

The brewery that I tried the most beer from while in New York was Other Half Brewing. I made sure to take full advantage of two of their locations, both the Rockefeller Center and the Gowanus Neighborhood. Lucky for me, it was also the week they were celebrating the New Zealand hop harvest, so not only did I get to enjoy some great IPAs and Stouts that they already had on draft, but also some of the freshest NZ IPAs out there. It's one of my favorite Brooklyn breweries. It has a chill atmosphere with its concrete floors and industrial warehouse feel - which makes sense as it's right next the Gowanus Expressway. If you like IPAs they have a great selection. Sometimes you'll find so many great beers that you don't have the room or time to experience them all. Other times you're not as lucky but you'll always find great beers. The staff is knowledgeable and almost always friendly. It does get real loud at times so, if you're looking for a quiet place to hang out and talk this might not be the place on a Friday or Saturday night, And, if you get hungry there's lot of great places just around the corner. read more

Wow this is the 2nd time that I have been here and staff and beer are very good. Get the Broccoli IPA that was super good but they have other IPAs as well in addition to typical other types of beers. I wanted to update my review. Maybe there have been some staff changes or something. But I went back to other half and had a great experience. Staff was friendly and seemed to all enjoy being there. That, in turn, made me enjoy my time. Their beer is always amazing. That much has not changed. There isn't much to say. At this point I very much look forward to going back. Between OH, Finback, and Grimm, Brooklyn really has an amazing craft beer community. I take back all my negative remarks OH. You are now part of my happy place. Go there. Right now. FINALLY came to Other Half with my cousin and her fiancé last Saturday. This Other Half location is located in the perfect spot - right by Industry City and on the border of Red Hook, Gowanus, and Carroll Gardens. There is a TON of street parking as well, which was a really nice plus (though the building itself is unassuming, I was at first just able to identify it because of the bouncer sitting out from by a barrel). What I loved about Other Half was that it's dog friendly, even inside the brewery - and they are TRULY dog friendly. The bouncer got on the ground to pet/play with my dog and some of the team working there came out from behind the bar to give my dog treats and pet him. It really made for a great vibe where I didn't feel like I was judged for bringing my dog in. The space itself is really big, with a TON of tables and seating room. We got there at about 11:30 on a Saturday and that was a perfect time to come in to secure a table - by the time we left around 2 the brewery was PACKED and people were hawking for seats, so a good rule of thumb is definitely to get there earlier if you want to secure a table. All the beers are up front on a chalkboard and are ordered up front. I started with the Citra IPA and later got the Dollar Slice IPA, which is one of the best I've ever had. The tap list is different at this location than the one at Domino Park, so it was fun to see what was specific to this location. They also have to-go cans and bottles, which I absolutely took full advantage of, bringing home 4 different varieties of 4-packs (including my beloved Dollar Slice). They have snacks (nuts, chips, etc.) and they had someone in with a pop-up laksa station (you could order via QR code) or you can DoorDash or order food in which is always a nice option too. All in all, this is absolutely somewhere I'll continue to come back to, so huge thanks to OH for such an amazing Saturday (and bonus points for the fact that my dog slept the entire rest of the day/night). read more

Other Half makes some of my favorite hazy IPAs and it's always a treat when cans make their way out to the West Coast. I had never been to one of their taprooms and knew I'd be indulging in one (or seven) beers at OH on my most recent visit to the city. The location and space are pretty unassuming but still modern and clean. I really dug the more industrial vibe of this particular taproom as it gave the true drinking at the brewery experience. We tried a bit of everything in tasters over the course of a few hours and didn't have a bad beer the entire time. These beers are great in cans, but something about a fresh keg pour brought my already-favorite beers to a whole different level. Friendly door man and staff. Nice crowd, but not overcrowded on a Sunday night. I wish these guys had a spot in LA! read more

I've lived nearby pretty much as long as Other Half has been here, and it's almost been astonishing to me to see this become kind of the Dean of NY craft beer. I've enjoyed visiting over the years, and appreciated them even more as a take out haven at the height of the pandemic. This is a fun spot that captures the industrial vibe of this Gowanus/CG/Red Hook nexus well. It's built like a standard, chill bar that just happens to sling some of the most renowned beers of the craft world. Love the high top tables, different size pour options (4-16 oz) and, most importantly, the invariably excellent beer you'll surely be enjoying here, whatever you order.  Staff is cool and laid back and prices feel reasonable/standard. I'd love it if they weren't so hop-heavy. If you don't enjoy IPAs--or some strong imperial stouts--your options may feel a tad limited here. I've bought some great farmhouse bottles from here and would love to see them experiment stylistically more. Also wish they had a couple of food options (though you can order/carry in). But hey, nobody's perfect--even if this place is close.  For both their excellent beer and their huge and oft-collaborative role in the world of craft beer, this is truly a spot to cherish and enjoy. read more

Loves: + 12oz beer pours are ~$9 + Kombucha by bear's fruit for $6 (Tried blueberry lavender but other flavors are pineapple mint or strawberry jalapeno) + Lots of seating available + Dog and kid friendly + Great for large groups The only note I would share is the entrance looks a little sketch where you may wonder if there actually *is* a brewery near the freeway. Other Half hands down has some of the best IPAs I've ever tasted - this is for sure my favorite brewery in Brooklyn, and probably the whole NY/NJ area. It's not the easiest place to get to (F or G train is good) but their out of the way location also lends itself to a fairly decent chance of finding parking. I've been successful every time I've driven. The tasting room is really big, and can get pretty packed, especially during high time on the weekends. They also have some nice outdoor seating, which is where we planted ourselves last time to avoid a wait. The list of rotating taps is laden with cool, memorable names, and I always aim to try as many new IPAs as possible when I'm here. Last visit the "Other Side Of The Galaxy" IPA was the winner, but my suite of similarly-colored goblets of cloudy golden yellow/orange goodness were all delicious in their own right. I will say flights are a little hard to keep track of, since they tell you the name each one verbally, and if you pass one along for someone else to taste and the order gets mixed up...well that's the one pitfall of that golden color across the board. No matter -- pours are reasonably priced and even with COVID-related time limits (perhaps not for much longer?) we got our fill. The hardest decision you'll have to make is figuring out which cans to take home. read more

Oh, Other Half Brewing are real masters when it comes to IPA'S. In fact the majority of their beers (maybe all) are IPA'S. So far I've had three different IPA'S from this brewery and all of them have their own distinguishing characteristics so you definitely know you just aren't drinking the same beer with slight changes as have been my experiences with some breweries that have more than one IPA to try at once. I love dry hopped beers and two of the beers I've had from this brewery were dry hopped. The Double Dry Citra Daydream and Double Dry Hopped Vapor Rings were great beers to enjoy if you are a dry hop fan. Green City was another IPA that we enjoyed and was very refreshing and crisp which matched perfectly with our meal which was a fish dish. Excellent IPA'S all around at Other Half and is a must for any IPA fans out there who want to try something new. read more

My wife and I have been to multiple Other Half tap rooms, always with dogs, countless times, and given Other Half thousands and thousands of dollars of business over the course of nearly a decade. (Higher-ups, if you're reading this, take note, because that is how much business the staff at Centre St. just lost you). Not every experience has been perfect, but that's to be expected over such a long course of time. But today, for the first time in that long history, we were mistreated in such a way that we may never be back. Today, we were dog sitting for a good friend's dog who we know very well, and who we've taken out in public more than once. This dog is very well behaved around other dogs and people, but like many dogs, may get very loudly vocal in the presence of other dogs, out of excitement and wanting to meet or play. Surely any dog-friendly establishment understands that many dogs are like this and by opening your doors to dogs you would expect it at least occasionally if not frequently. Again, I can't emphasize enough how many times we've been to your tap rooms and how much business we've given you over the years. There have been very few problems, and any until today have been water under the bridge. We like your beer. We like your tap rooms. We like bringing our dog - and sometimes others - because we always feel welcome, and we know dogs are also welcome. We spent a little under 90 minutes at the Centre Street tap room today and spent more time than that commuting there to get an order we placed for pickup. During that 90 or so minutes, the dog we were watching, as well as our own, was approached by (and smiled at by) many patrons who on more than one occasion complimented them for their good behavior and happy demeanor. All was well, good vibes, great experience for us and the dogs as always. Augie, the dog we are taking care of this weekend, would occasionally bark for a few seconds (or a minute) if he caught sight of one of the several other dogs who were there, or if one approached. Only then, and for no other reason, and not for very long, and certainly not long enough to warrant any complaints from patrons or anyone else. As we were preparing to leave, we used the restroom in shifts, as we knew it would be a long car ride home. During the 1-2 minutes I was in the bathroom, I could hear Augie barking the whole time. I'm sure he was concerned that I was gone, and also interested in the 2 dogs near our table. When my wife went to use the rest room, and he continued barking because she was gone, I was approached by a bartender and told that Augie was barking too much. Not only that, but I was told that Other Half has a "2-minute barking policy", by which any dog barking for more than 2 minutes is deemed to be a disturbance which means action should be taken. I was "nicely" asked to leave, even though I was still waiting for my wife to return from the restroom. We were leaving anyway, but instead of handling the situation with a bit more kindness and understanding, the bartender was quite rude, so much so that the people at the table next to us told me "We're so sorry that happened to you." As we were closing our tab, I asked if anyone could point me to this "2-minute barking policy". If a bartender is going to step in and treat me so rudely over a dog barking for 2 minutes while my wife and I use the restroom, I at least would like to know for sure that there is actually some policy I've violated by allowing this dog to bark for more than 2 minutes. Another bartender stepped in and decided to escalate the situation, because I'm sure knowing that there is no such policy was not very convenient in the moment, and knowing that I was right to be upset, and knowing my wife and I (and our dogs) had been mistreated by the staff, there was really no good way to continue the conversation. Any customer who is mistreated in such a way has every right to be concerned if not angry, and yet because I insisted on knowing more about this "2-minute barking policy", I was told to "grow up". I promised to share a detailed account as soon as I got home, and here it is. Other Half Centre St. is no longer a dog-friendly establishment, so bring your dog at your own risk, knowing you may be rudely asked to leave if a minute or 2 of barking annoys the staff. Allow me to politely suggest 2 things: If you hate dogs, don't go to public places where there are dogs. And if you hate dogs, don't work at one. It was clear to me that the bartender who approached me was simply so annoyed that, after 90 minutes of good behavior, 2 minutes of barking was so unacceptable that she had to invent a non-existent policy to justify her rude mistreatment of a customer. As I told both bartenders: We will never be back. Actions have consequences, and I will never go anywhere that allows its staff to be so shamelessly nasty to its customers and their furry companions. Great selection of beer at the brewery. The brewery brings forth that familiar brewery environment with smells, people, community and etc. It is a great place to hangout with friends. Only detriment is it a ways off in Brooklyn on a single train. On the bright side, the famous gourmet pizza joint is not too far away -- Lucali's. read more

Other Half Brewing Company is a craft brewery that opened in Brooklyn, New York in 2014. It was founded by business partners Matt Monahan, Andrew Burman and head brewer Sam Richardson. Richardson grew up in Portland, Oregon and got his start brewing through Oregon State University's Fermentation Science Program. After finishing school, he moved to Brooklyn and began working at Greenpoint Beerworks. Here he met Monahan and Burman who were both originally from the Washington D.C. area. They had a dream to open their own brewery with a simple mission: to create beers that they wanted to drink from a company that they wanted to be a part of. The brewery's name is a reference to the fact that they wanted to represent the "Other Half" of the beer industry. Through a Craigslist ad, the partners found an industrial garage located under the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn's Carroll Gardens neighborhood. At the time, that area wasn't so desirable. The land sits next to the Gowanus Canal which is NYC's most polluted body of water. In spite of the odds against them, Other Half's reputation and popularity grew at a very fast rate. In addition to their original location in Carroll Gardens, Other Half now has locations in Brooklyn's Domino Park neighborhood, Manhattan's Rockefeller Center, Finger Lakes (Bloomfield, New York), Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Several new breweries have also popped up in Brooklyn since Other Half opened; the borough has turned into a brewer's paradise. Prior to Other Half opening, Brooklyn only had three breweries. I recently visited Other Half for the first time while I was on a cycling trip in NYC. I started out in the Bronx, cycled through Manhattan via the Hudson River Greenway, went over the Brooklyn Bridge and then made my way to Carroll Gardens. I've heard nothing but great things about Other Half for years. Although they brew a number of different styles, they have become synonymous with super juicy, hoppy and hazy IPAs: my favorite! Although they recently started distributing in my home of Connecticut, you really need to go to the source to get their best offerings. The brewery is small and unassuming and it wasn't too crowded at all. One of the staff informed me that it was "Citra Week" and that I could order a flight of eight samples of beers that feature Citra hops. This was like music to my ears because Citra are my favorite hops! Every beer was fantastic; some of the best I've ever had. Other Half totally lives up to the hype. I think they are easily one of the Top 5 best breweries I've ever visited in my life. I purchased a four-pack of "Double Dry Hopped All Citra Everything" (Double IPA) and a bottle of "Deep Orbit Cygnus" (Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout) before leaving. I'll definitely be back! Very cute brewery situated in Brooklyn!! There are picnic tables and high tops inside that are available on a first-come, first-serve basis; otherwise you are able to stand at the bar. There is a wide selection of beer available, with the option of different size pours. I only drink sour beer, so I cannot comment on all the beer on the menu- I drank the berry flavored "smoothie" sour- that tasted just as the name implied (thick smoothie texture, rich berry flavor). It was so crowded on a gloomy Sunday afternoon! That shouldn't be a surprise but it was cozy to see how popular it was. We ordered at the bar and miraculously were able to find two seats together at one of the out-facing tables. The beer was good and just the right size. There were almost too many flavors to choose from but I liked mine and was intrigued by how cloudy it was. We were seated near the cash register for merchandise and for to go beer. I was impressed with the number of people who came in with growlers and coolers to pick up beer to go. Other Half is a short walk from the subway station through an industrial area but worth the journey because it's a cute, cozy place to get a unique in the afternoon. read more
