Such a cute little brewery in Brooklyn! I went on a Sunday around 3:30pm and it wasn't crowded at all, but every seat was filled. After about 30 mins, the line to buy beer was super long! I definitely recommend getting two drinks while you're up there if you're impatient. The great thing is, you get to choose between 4 oz ($4) pours or 8 oz ($8) pours. I chose the 4 oz pours, so I could try a bunch of beers. There must've been over 15 beers up there on the board. If you're an IPA lover, this is your spot! I tried their stouts and fell in love with one (all 5th anniversary everything). Their snow birds stout was too sweet for me, but it could've easily be an after dinner drink. Located at the riverfront, this place offers some great views of East River especially if you are seated outside. The vibe of the place is pretty amazing too! Had ordered blue crab, green city beers. These are usually brewed there ( as it's a brewery). The green city felt more bitter than the blue crab but both were really good. It's a decent place to chill if you're looking to grab a beer around this area. They also have tie up with a nearby restaurant called Roberta which delivers pizzas and sandwiches to the people here. We had gotten a bottle of dark beer that a friend gave us from Other Half and it was quite amazing. I really think it's pretty cool that they make a certain amount of beer and then you just can't get it again. I love that it's unique! Othe half does a lot of collab this particular bottle was with hidden springs. The name of the beer was called churro cart. The flavor profile was sweet but not over the top. A hint of marshmallow, chocolate and cinnamon. This was def a sipping beer and had to be served ice cold! Overall I really enjoyed this beer! One of many like this I had. It's been many years since my last visit and a lot seems to have changed. Gone is the cramped tap room with seating for only a small group. Now the place has modernized, with several tables strewn along inside, as well as being appropriately distanced during the pandemic-times. When entering, was checked for ID/temperature, and was able to secure a barrel/table outside. Tap list is fairly large, with many options for both draft as well as can/bottle. Tried both the "Green Power Sundew" ($8) and the "Total Straw Collapse" ($8), while also having food-requirement Doritos. Beers are always solid, and the variety/constant experimenting in new flavors has always been a draw with this brewery. Servers here are great, as the staff constantly walks around and makes sure your glass is full. Dog-friendly and now-spacious, worth the trip over if looking to relax in the neighborhood. read more

This place was amazing!! I wish they had seating and it was a little bit quieter (-1 star) but otherwise this is exactly what we hoped it would be. It gets very busy at all times but especially during the summer. They have a number of craft beers on draft including a wide selection of interesting IPAs and stouts, many of which are ridiculously high ABV (my boyfriend had two stouts that clocked in at ~14% ABV). Beers are phenomenal and really interesting, my favorite that we tried was actually my boyfriend's which was a stout with a heavy coconut taste that was sweet and heavy without being overwhelming. Bartenders are great and friendly. Prices are good - most 4 oz pours are $4 and most 8 oz pours at $8. Therefore, you can try a lot of beers in a smaller size without breaking the bank. Music is great too. Lots of early 2000s throwbacks. Plenty of tables and standing space to make up for the lack of seating. McDonald's is right across the street for some drunk eats (did we hit McDs after? Possibly...). Will definitely return. Other Half Brewing was insanely busy and much more Bro filled than other breweries I visited in NYC. Not sure what's up with that but because of that seemed more like a bar than a brewery. Insanely busy, insanely loud, not as chill as I like out of my breweries. That aside, their beers are stellar. So many are super strong and they excel in IPAs. They don't do flights but they do half pours and I took full advantage of that to try as many brews as I could. Double Cream Get the Honey a 8.4% double IPA from them was delicious. Double Dry Hopped Broccoli sounded so cool, I had to get it. Another Imperial IPA this one clocked in at 7.9%. Then entered Laid Back - a 6% sour from them that nearly scored a perfect 5 bottlecaps from me on Untappd. Peach vanilla tart goodness in a glass! I got a bottle of their Gold Strap, a 13% Cognac barrel aged wheat wine that was surprisingly my least favorite of all I had from Other Half. We went to Other Half around 3pm on a Saturday so I'd try to avoid going at that time again. I loveddddd their beer and the staff is great, but that crowd!! Ugh!! Can release orderly and well coordinated. 20 really excellent brews on tap on any given day, heavy on the IPAs - double, imperial, dry hopped and whatnot served in proper glassware. The taproom is huge, but on a few occasions very crowded. This did not impact the staffs ability to efficiently serve and even spend a minute helping with decisions. Love the colors, the aromas and the flavors. The only negative I found one visit was that those possessing a coveted table are very territorial, even going so far as spreading out so I couldn't pull up a stool- lighten up and let's have a beer! read more

Probably my favorite brewery tap room due to the ample space and exotic collection of non beer sips for the DD in the group. Wide open space, hi tops with stools and a huge amount of crazy named brews. Isolated area under the L train. Friendly door man, smiling servers. I had this wild clear soda from a nearby store that was a ginger ale with traces of cardamon and chili peppers. Hope you like hops! On the big draft board there are 20 beers listed. 17 of them IPAs, with 14 of those being Imperial IPAs. There are certainly a lot of different flavors represented among them, but clearly, Other Half specializes in a certain type of beer. Strong, hoppy, beer. Personally, I'm a sensitive nancyboy who doesn't want that much hops in my life. It blows out my pallet, gives me manboobs, and I can only drink a couple of them, which is far fewer beers than I would generally like to drink if I'm going to take the drastic action of leaving my apartment. And while I've enjoyed the limited edition can releases that I've gotten to try, I will literally never wait in line for the opportunity to buy canned beer. But I still like Other Half. The beer is quite tasty in small quantities and the taproom, while spare, is convivial and I have a few friends that are serious regulars, so it's almost always a good time. I do occasionally like to taste the wild, citrusy, creamy, hoppy and/or spicy flavors in their most popular options, but I generally prefer to get down with stouts, porters, and lighter fare. Although, I am all for drinking the Imperial Stout that is aptly named Bad Decisions (at over 11% ABV), after which I go make bad decisions and blame it on the a a a a a alcohol. read more

The brewery has a very bright clean decor with upbeat music playing. We stopped in around 1 and it was already very busy. The wait in line was long but manageable. There were only three bartenders on staff and we received service from 2 different bartenders. The female bartender was very indifferent, didnt pop a smile or seem engaged at all. The male bartender made up for her chill and was very friendly. Wish that you did not have to leave your credit card at the bar as most businesses swipe and return the card upon opening a tab. We shared a table with other guests and enjoyed several offerings. We ordered a few small $4 portions so we could sample many types of beer. I loved the Dunkel and DDHIPA. The CBD seltzer was also delicious and a good break from the heavy beer. The food share with a local pizzeria was highly lacking. 90% of the menu items were out of stock with only pizza to order. The best brewery in New York? In the United States? In the world? Quite possibly. I have never been to a place that has matched the strength and flavor of the beer brewed here. Staff is always really knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. They're always playing fun classic movies on the big TV and just past it to the left you see where the magic is made with giant casks and an assembly line of packaged beer prepared for purchase. Chill locale at corner of Centre and Hamilton. They brew on site which is always cool as brewers are around. They have a very nice line up of brews that cover a wide spectrum. You are sure to find a beer you enjoy here. I tasted the "watching the grass grow" a well brewed lager. Super clean with just a hint of malt. The single hopped "mosaic dream" - you guessed it - all mosaic hops was a refreshing IPA. Cloudy and pale. Not your usual piney IPA. Stone fruits. Next round was the "centre" 8%. Not your baby IPA. The cashmere hops lemon lime come through. The "citra mosaic " 8.5% brewed with wheat and oats has more bite in the finish than the Centre. Also has more "fruit" coming from the mosaic hops. Not what I was expecting. The "other side of galaxy" 8.1% and 100% galaxy hops from NZ. Another refreshing IPA with a great finish. I was expecting more fruit from the description. I actually like less and really enjoyed this brew. The "free refills" 7% sadly didn't come with any. Brewed with simcoe, motueka, Nelson sauvin, and enigma was super complex. Very nice. Simcoe added the bitterness that I enjoy. The motieka (another NZ) provides some fruit notes. While the the Nelson Sauvin adds allspice to the finish. One of my favorites. Finished with "hop monsoon" 10% (yikes). Good. Bitter finish that lingers and changes over time. Definitely a sipper. Staff are really cool and are doing an awesome job following COVID mandates, but making your time enjoyable. read more

Holy Other Half! The hype is real! The legends are true! The beer is amazing! Who would've thought that such a small and unsuspecting spot, deep in Brooklyn, would concoct some of the greatest beers you'll ever taste? No seriously, who? Not me! But oh am I glad I took the trek out here. Looking to do the same? I highly recommend it. But be careful because you literally might walk right by OH. If there isn't a line outside then search for an old door with the name darkly printed on it. There's not much else to use as a landmark. Inside it's a super tiny tap room. A little exotic flare to the walls and that's about it (even the taps are set up in odd places behind the bar). Despite the size, people will pile in like beer-drinking sardines just to get a taste of what they have to offer. And it's worth the tight spacing (you could actually spend time in the brewery area too which helps clear the tap room up a tad). Okay, maybe Other Half wouldn't be your go-to spot if you liked stouts or porters, but that's part of why you should come here. Welcome to the land of the IPA. Trust me, it's not what you think. It's not about blow-out-your-palate brews. Each beer at OH is made with different combinations of hops and the way they finish is something unlike your average India pale ale. By trying each one, you truly start to get an understanding of the different flavors of bitterness and quite possibly, your appreciation of this beer style will grow...then again you might walk in here and still hate everything, but I'll cross my fingers for you. Give it a shot. Just do it. Okay, enough campaigning. I did drink beer here, though it's a taster kind of affair at Other Half because there are no flights. But going off of what I said above, if you buy into that hoppy mentality, you won't want to stop drinking. Cheddar Broccoli, Ain't Nothing Nice, True Green, All Citra Everything, and Green Diamonds were the best brews I sampled, Green Diamonds easily being my favorite (and no, that first one tastes nothing like the name...just in case you were wondering). The mouthfeel on each beer was perfect. Veldrijian Love (a farmhouse saison) was also delightfully stellar. I had a hard time not wanting to give each brew a 5 rating on Untapped (I held back). Overall, Other Half doesn't need anything else because it's a whole brewery filled with amazing quality and taste. It may not be for everyone (just try it!), but it should be. You'll find new and/or continued love for hops and beer when you step through that little door. Drink it. Enjoy it. I believe in IPA...sounds like a bumper sticker in the making. read more

Other Half Brewing is supposed to be one of the best breweries in the Northeast. You cannot dispute that THEIR CANS HAVE TRADING VALUE, and once you get hands onto some Other Half cans, you can trade them for other sought-after beer cans from breweries like Monkish, Trillium, Tree House, Troon, etc... You also cannot dispute that Other Half Brewing does COLLABORATIONS with many renown breweries throughout the U.S., and they wouldn't be doing business with Other Half unless they were doing something right. Now onto the part where my opinion differs from the consensus -- 1. The EMPLOYEES COULD HAVE BEEN NICER -- From the security guard at the front, to the lady retrieving the glasses, to the employees working the counter-- all of them seemed angry to me. I had to interrupt the chatting of the people behind the bar to get them to help me. I received no assistance with the menu. Nobody offered to help me bring all the cans to my car, but they certainly expected a big tip. Sorry, but I will not leave a 20% tip on a $100 bill for an angry person to hand me cans from the counter. 2. MAINTENANCE and CLEANLINESS ISSUES in the building -- there was water dripping from the ceiling onto the back counter area. The counter itself was wobbly. There wasn't enough area to hang out there. The tasting room is dirty. 3. LIMITED SELECTION. The beers themselves tend to be mostly variations of hazy IPA's, and that's pretty much it. (I am not making a broad claim that they never make other types of beers with no exception.) Once I got the beers home, I did in fact enjoy them, but they were not far superior to other beers I have tasted throughout my beer tour. There are many underappreciated breweries out there, such as Twin Elephant, Vinyl, and Glasstown, which make a large variety of excellent brews. In comparison to Other Half, their beers were still good, but just limited most to just one type and nothing extraordinary. 4. NO PARKING. This is especially difficult given that Other Half is a big canning brewery. The staff will expect a big tip but will not offer to help carry the cans out for you, which is in contrast to breweries like Trillium, where the employees go out of their way to help. 5. CANS ARE EXPENSIVE. They end up being on average $5 per can, which is above the market rate. NEW YORK HYPE. It makes me wonder to what extent the fact that they are located in Brooklyn, New York makes people think it's such a great brewery. It's my personal opinion (you may disagree), that people hype New York and everything in New York so much. There are just so many other breweries out there with better beer. In summary: it's worth the experience to go see what it's really like for yourself, hazy IPA's are very good, just not exceptional, few other types of beers, bad service, lackluster tasting room. read more

I was super excited to visit the legendary Other Half with my girlfriend, who also loves beer. On this given Sunday, there were flows of super crowded and no lines at all. There were moments where there was a line out the door; but the guys at the front counter know how to keep the line moving. I was impressed to see over 10 beers on tap priced differently for tasting sizes, full pours, and growlers. The tasting area is quite small, though, and it was super easy to get in others' way. (Thankfully, the beer crowd is a friendly crowd.) It feels a little like an operation, but for a brewery with this type of reputation, I would not expect it any other way. If I were to review the beer itself - especially IPAs - I'd give Other Half 5 stars easily. As for an experience overall, it's definitely worth the visit but perhaps not a place I'd visit super regularly since seating is minimal, and the space is relatively small. read more

An IPA lover's heaven. Other Half knows how to do beers, and boy, do they do them well! Creative titles, clean brews, and artistic can art. Seating at the taproom is community style, so get to know your neighbors while trying some world class beer. It does get crowded, and loud, but completely worth it in my opinion. Tasters are available, as is carry-out beer and merchandise. Bathroom is all-gender. People under 21 are allowed, but the only non-alcoholic beverage available is water, and that is self-serve. The staff we encountered was friendly and accommodating to us. We went twice in the four days we were in NYC, and we weren't even staying in Brooklyn, if that tells you anything. Bonus that this location is close to the subway. We'll come back every time we're in the city. read more

But overall the experience was pretty good. The beers are absolutely delicious. In a world overrun with hazy IPAs and NE IPAs and your sisters IPAs it's great to have big boy stouts, and yeah pastry stouts count. My friend described this place perfectly as "a party in his 17 year old friend's basement". The beer was pretty good, although I have to wonder about the sanitation here since we saw garbage trucks just dumping stuff right next door. It gets pretty crowded here so if you don't like waiting in a line for beer that literally extends outside and down the block (which who the hell likes that?!) then come early or late. Also, staff could be a bit weird. I'm not sure why they don't let you drink cans there, particularly when their beer line gets so out of control, but they could be less insulted when you ask about it....seriously, it's not a personal question. I recently stopped by this brewery, after reading online of all the cool IPA beers this place offers, and I must say they have some of the best IPAs I ever had. I tried a bunch of different 4oz glasses of all different kinds of IPAs and even some Stouts, and everything was amazing. All of their beers are also titled great, but more importantly, they taste great. This is a cool spot to hangout with your friends and grab some beers. They had some TVs with football games on, in the hangout area, which was pretty cool. I enjoyed the beers so much that I bought a case of all different kinds of beers to bring home. I also like that every week they offer new kinds of beers on both draft and cans. I will definitely be coming back here to try more of their delicious beers! read more

I love Other Half, I truly do. The beer is incredible (if you like IPAs) and you can't really go wrong with any of the options. However, out of all the Other Half locations, this one is the worst :( If you find yourself in D.C. or Rochester or Buffalo, seek out those ones first. Despite being the original it doesn't have a great location as it's right under a highway. Additionally, the staff was a touch rude. My friend went up asking what IPAs they had and saying she liked hazy and the bartender returned coolly that "all of them are hazy" and left my friend dangling in the wind a bit. Craft beer spots like this can be pretty intimidating and bro-y, so I feel like more work should be put in to make it feel welcoming to all. But wow the beer is so good -- you can always just grab takeaway cans if you don't find the place to your liking. read more

This brewery has a fun vibe, and a large variety of delicious beers to try. I came here on Sunday at around 4:30pm- it was not too packed at this time and it's easy to get drinks from the bar and find a place to stand for four people. You can find all sorts of IPAs (sour ones, ones with oat cream!), sours, stouts, and my favorite part is that everything is "flavored" with something delicious like honey, oats, cream- beers made for foodies!! The first beer I tried was the Double Mmm... fruit dream watermelon lime sour wheat ale and it was so delicious- way to easy to drink (mind you it has 7% abv!) I could have easily drank a whole pitcher of this. The double cream get the honey imperial honey cream IPA was also dessert-like and easily drinkable. I love how the honey works so well in the beer. I've waited on line for cans here, and have hopped in whenever i'm in the area: there's a reason the place is usually packed. There are so many breweries out there that suck. The Other Half Brewing is not one of them. This is well-known by now. Walking off the F train, another group walked right next to us over to the Other Half. We got really lucky to find a spot near the counter. That spot had it's benefits. We were able to order our "make your own" flights and not have to carry them to another spot. We never had to wait longer than a few minutes to order. However, we were up in a crowded space since everyone had to come up and order by the counter. We were told we could easily spend hours there, and that was accurate. My husband and I literally worked through the entire menu having all but 4 drafts. IPA fans, rejoice! The menu was really IPA centric. The Daydream Series was my favorite (with the Triple Mosaic being my fav, followed by the Citra Daydream and DDHS Space Daydream.) But seriously, anything that was double dry hoped was fantastic. Although not an IPA, the Double Sunset literally had me "wowing" out loud. The only missed of the day was the Thought Bubbles Sour IPA. I love sours and IPAs, but this just tasted off to me. We also got a few four packs to-go. It wasn't just their staples, but they have can releases of other stuff. If only I had a car with me or some easier way to get more beers back home. There are a ton of other breweries in Brooklyn and the 5-borough area. We have been aware of Other Half for a while and it is pretty amazing. First off - with all of the hype, does OH live up to it? - absolutely! Their IPA's are among the best I've ever tried. They have incredible "noses" and the flavors are out of this world. There are nuances and differences that a beer connoisseur would readily taste. Perhaps if you're not a beer aficionado - you might not taste all the differences, but I think most people would. I've seen reviews that have fussed about the parking and other outside factors and I get it, but we parked nearby with no issues. Honestly - it wasn't a big deal to me. The brewery tasting room isn't much, but some of the best breweries I've been to haven't been fancy. Simple, industrial and a good amount of seating is how I would describe it. Having said that - we went in a later afternoon on a Tuesday night. For us it was about 30 mins. out of the way, but it was well worth it. Overall OH is among the best breweries I've ever visited. As for the beers, they are in a class only matched by a few others (such as The Veil in Richmond VA or Hardywood - also in Richmond). I can see that if you're not into IPA's it wouldn't be your thing, but it seems like pretty common knowledge that it's their "thing". They did have an awesome barleywine and a pretty good stout when we went. Parking can be difficult, but it really wasn't too big of a deal. Great brewery with great beers - definitely worth a try! One last thing - they do not have a menu, only snacks. We ordered a pizza and had it delivered. Easy peazy. Enjoy you visit...I know we did!! read more
