This is my go to breakfast/brunch place. There cappuccinos are delicious. The food is perfect proportion and always fresh. The atmosphere is always changing with edgy artwork. Highly recommend read more

Great place to study and eat dinner. I wanted a nice little alternative to Trends Cafe (which I love). I was looking for a quieter place that offered real and reasonably priced dinner menu. The atmosphere is nice....very warm and clean. When I walked in no one greeted me....but maybe I'm just spoiled, I go to the mall alot so I'm used to being greeted like some millionaire. Ok, so no one greeted me, I smiled at the guy behind the counter because... idk, I'm in Montclair and everyone smiles at everyone right? And he gives me a weird look. Hmmmmm ok, no problem. I took a seat and waited for someone to come over......the guy at the counter was talking to another guy, very interesting convo I guess but hellllloooooooo I'm over here waiting! Ok, i thought, maybe I'm spoiled. I got up and walked over and asked him, "ummm should I order here or order at my table....." He said, "No, we come to you!"...... Oh....cause.....no one came for 10 minutes ....but ok. So the service is not all that great but besides that part.... I thought the food was excellent. I ordered gnocci in sweat potato sauce (or something like that) and it was good and I believe it was less than $14. It came with a very nice salad. The waiter checked on me a couple times after that. Also, I was able to get so much work done for school. The place was quiet enough, not too many rowdy people came through, unlike at Trends you get the Wellmont crowd still high off the show they've seen. Plus they have the late closing hours during the week! A big plus for me. I would go back :) read more

Red Eye Cafe - Gnocchi & crab with sweet potato sauce and garden salad with toasted pumpkin seeds. It was good! - Cafes Near Me - Montclair, New Jersey

Best coffee in Montclair. Not too crazy about the lunch menu though. Literally nothing looked good and I don't enjoy picking the lesser of 16 evils. Brunch was pretty decent but the wait for the tiny spot was frustrating. The dinner menu looks interesting but I'm hesitating to try it considering all the alternatives in Montclair. Plus with a name like Red Eye Cafe, I feel that if Brunch didn't knock it out of the park, why even bother coming for dinner? read more

I came here for lunch with a friend on a weekday. There was about a 20 minute wait, which is understandable because the place isn't so big. I had a lunch special that included a grilled cheese with grilled onions in it, tomato and zucchini soup, and a small salad. The soup and salad were both pretty good, but the grilled cheese was delicious. I would come back for the grilled cheese alone. Parking was a bit of an issue. I got a spot out front, but had to go to my car to feed the meter. It might not be the best place to go on a weekend because I would imagine it would be really hard to find a parking spot, but I would definitely go back. read more

I tried this place due to the good reviews but when I walked in I almost left because it looked like a basic coffee shop instead of somewhere to grab lunch, but I'm glad I didn't! I had the chicken salad sandwich and the tomato zucchini soup. Both were very good. My friend tried the Cuban which he also liked a lot. The best part was the dirty chai latte. I'll definitely return if I find myself in the area again. Great food and good prices. read more

Wow! Now I can agree to what the town is talking about. A cozy casual spot, they really do food good. Nowadays there are so many places to eat that pop up, but Red Eye cafe stands out for me with their fresh and unique flavors! Truly unique. Will definitely be back! read more

First time here. Very imaginative menu. Do not leave here without getting the spinach side. OMG! Don't try to imagine it, just order it and put a smile on your face... Worth the wait for Sun brunch. Excellent attentive and relaxed friendly service. Eclectic Montclair crowd. Superior execution of dishes. Food came without delay in a crowded house, indicating a very well managed kitchen. Very highly recommended (even if your presence makes me wait a little longer next time!) read more

Red Eye Cafe - Cafes Near Me - Montclair, New Jersey

I'm trying to visit every coffee place in Mont Clair, and this was fourth on my list. It was incredibly disappointing to say the least. The coffee was okay, but because of the rude service it was honestly not worth it. They were not friendly and gave off the vibe of not wanting to serve my friend and I. My friend and I ordered our drinks and sat down at a table, and they gave us to-go cups while everyone around us had regular mugs. This gesture made us feel unwelcome and unwanted, so we left. I do not recommend. read more

Not a lot of seating so there was a bit of a wait. But all employees were very nice and helpful. Dirty Chai (which I've never had) was absolutely delicious. So delicious, in fact, that I didn't even care about eating. I ordered a waffle sandwich (bacon on the side for my wife since I'm a vegetarian) and it was delicious (waffle a little soggy, but now I'm being nit-picky). Wife and friend got Hong Kong waffles with the salted caramel and candied bacon, which they loved. Other friend got pumpkin pancakes which he also enjoyed. Very cool ambiance with books and decor. Definitely will be back and wish this was in my neighborhood. Note - We went for Sunday brunch after Church at Hillsong. Around 12:30pm and place was packed. read more

This is my second time here. I love the fresh food. They have a great mix of salad soups and sandwiches on the lunch menu. The coffee is strong and bold in flavor. ...and don't miss out on the baked goods. I highly recommend the cookies!!! This will be my go to for small cafe in Montclair. Beware the seating is limited and can get very crowded during peak times. The wait staff is super nice and go out of their way to please. read more

Great cup of coffee at a very reasonable price. Only downside is the spot doesn't open till 9am on the weekends and sometimes I need my cup of joe before than! Besides that it is always a quick stop in for coffee. People are always sitting down eating the phone which I have yet to try. read more

The ambience in this place is great. The decor is really nice, and the staff is super friendly.

I'm a regular work-week-lunch guy here. The place is always crowded but you can usually find a spot. There's some good stuff for us non-meaties - including a really good (but maybe confusingly named) fruit and veg sandwich. read more

One star but because of the attitude not the food. Went in to eat brunch with my friends and when I went to put our name down the guy gave us nothing but attitude because we had had a group of 7 even though I had called prior. Went down the street to the Newly opened Corner who were happy to seat is and had delicious food! Suggest there instead if you want fun pleasant good eats :) I am not sure how to comment on the below response, but to me customer service is the most important thing when going out to eat. I can cook myself a delicious meal, but I go out to enjoy the company of my friends and have a great experience. That's why the one star. Also judging from your picture I believe it was you that was rude. Just work on it. I'm sure if you improve your attitude and serve great food you'll have 5 star reviews to come. read more

Service food/food choices and outdoor seating (when available) are always excellent. This is definitely a place to try the specials! I have been here at least 6 times and it has impressed every visit. read more

Cool atmosphere, creative signs, and of course a great cup of joe. The Red Eye Cafe is the perfect respite from a day of walking around Montclair. I'd also consider it to be a bit off the beaten path as it is a few blocks away from Bloomfield Ave. For this reason, it wasn't too crowded on a very sunny, cool Saturday afternoon. I can't speak for the food but the menu looked intriguing, much so that I wouldn't hesitate to drive back here for breakfast or some sweets. All I know is that for a affordable, fresh cup of coffee alone, Red Eye has converted me into a future return customer. read more

This place is small and intimate, the food is so delicious every bite was amazing. It was worth the wait, considering it is always packed in there. The atmosphere is very friendly and it was overall great experience. read more

This place does everything well. I've been here for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. I've always been very please with the food and service. Went here today for brunch and had the huevos rancheros and the sunrise quesadilla, and my usual iced dirty chai. The food was perfect and tasted so fresh. I can't recommend this place enough for any meal of the day. Outdoor seating available and a byob. read more

Arrived during a peak hour on a Saturday for brunch and my date and I were given coffee while we waited. Very good coffee. Friendly staff. Sat and had the red eye hash. Not too bad although somewhat bland until I put hot sauce on it. Criticisms would be that the table we sat at, particularly my chair, was next to a very drafty little prep room. So I was cold the while time. Also, although the coffee was delicious, refills didn't come with more creamer. Had to ask for it. If they were to tie up these little loose ends, it'll be a go to for me. read more

This place is very cute and intimate . The food is great and coffee even better . I had tuna salad sandwich last time I was here which was superb. Had brunch here once too and it was very good . read more

I had what i believe to be a potato and carrot puree/soup that was pretty damn awesome. The servings are refreshingly large for what you pay for, especially in montclair. read more

Very cool cafe, great coffee and environment. Love their capuccino!

I was very impressed with our meal here. I got some kind of root vegetable hash with an egg on top, and the sludge coffee, which was a very welcome pick me up on a Sunday morning. I deducted 1 star, because we waited about an hour for brunch, and when my boyfriend went to check on our table, the hostess had not put our name in at all. read more

Had been there a few times. This time by far was the best. Goat cheese, walnut and pear arugula salad was so good!!!!!!! I would have liked to have just a little toasty garlicky like type of bread to spread some of the goat cheese on but it was very filling. I wish there was lunch prix fix The yelp info says reservations taken but not true. The music was a little too loud, and although I like a good mix- i went to work on a project with a coworker and it was a little too much. Kinda wish the staff wore some cool shirts to help with branding not headphones and a football jersey. Small changes a must. And if you are gonna have a wait.. offer a water or coffee samples to try. read more

My wife and I dined here last weekend and had amazing food. My wife loved her pumpkin pancakes. I had the sunrise quesadilla. Both foods were amazing. The side of candied bacon complimented our lunches. We also enjoyed our choices in coffee. The dulce de leche latte and new orleans sludge were very good read more

One of my absolute favorite local brunch locations!!! From the dirty chai to the grilled cheese to the Hong Kong style waffle with salted caramel ice-cream (did I say yummmm)...everything was to the point of perfection. Well worth the wait on Sunday mornings and the staff are only the super friendliest :) read more

Love this place! I brought my kids here for brunch and was pleasantly surprised by the delicious large portions and strong coffee. The vibe was casual, hipster, and friendly. No uppity attitude given by the staff. Definitely a must try! read more

Good ambiance and great food, wish they served bloody marries! (I'm sure they would do them amazingly).

even though the menu isn't huge, i can come here all the time and not get bored. At this point we've been here dozens of times, tried pretty much everything on the menus (brunch is probably my favorite, although the word is out on the brunch so it can be crowded)... have never been disappointed or had anything less than a great experience. excellent food and coffee. an inviting and inspiring place to spend time that i'm grateful to have it in the neighborhood. i think that the owners put a lot of thought into exactly what they wanted to create with Red Eye (the full picture/food, aesthetics, vibe etc). in my mind they have really succeeded in bringing that vision to fruition read more

This is what a coffee shop should be! Good coffee, good food, great service, warm atmosphere. This is my family's haunt of choice when we're all in town. read more

Food and coffee are good, not great. Service and wait time is painfully long though. Avoid if you're in a rush on the weekend or just enjoy receiving your food before genuinely considering eating your leg covered in sriracha. Waiter didn't even acknowledge us after the order was taken in the 45 minutes it took for food to arrive. Bad. Bad. Not good. read more

Great food, great decor, and plenty of power outlets for your laptop.

Great place. Good coffee and I like lots of their dishes. Especially Green Eggs and Ham. They're very friendly and there is never pressure to turn the table. read more

Disappointing. Went for breakfast this morning and was never served. Sat for 15 minutes while other tables were served and offered drinks. We were given water. Walked out and went somewhere where we were served. Just poor...and the excuse that was given when we spoke to the hostess was even worse. read more

Great coffee, great food, great service. Couldn't be happier with my experience at Red Eye. I had the Highlander, which is easily the menu standout, and my wife had the banana nut pancakes, which were fantastic. Can't wait to go back. read more
