One of the better restaurants in the casino but not one of the top Chinese restaurants in Boston - in order words, worth your CompDollars but not real dollars. The Peking duck is a must try of course but another star is the crispy pork belly - the skin is super crispy and flavors are good. My favorite dishes, that were really authentic, are the beef chow food (Penang style), schezuan green beans, and pea pod stems. Do not get the mayo shrimp (batter similar to Chinese takeout chicken fingers) and sea bass fillet was dry and flavorless. It's very rare that I have a bad dining experience and even rarer that writing about it reminds me never to go back there... ever! So, let's get into it. The Setup: Red 8 is an oriental restaurant located in the Casino floor of the Encore Boston Casino and Resort. It's nicely decorated and both my wife and I have wanted to try it for some time. Last Saturday night, after a trip to the Encore Salon and then down to the Casino for a little fun, we decided about 6:30 that we didn't feel like leaving yet but were hungry. Knowing we were coming back to the gambling floor to continue playing Baccarat, (we both were up from our initial wagering:) a nice meal here seemed in order vs. dealing with it at home later. We were near Fratelli's our usual always great "go to", but also close to Red 8... so... we both said, "Let's give it a try!" It was busy, 15 minute wait, so we hung around the slots and waited for them to page our cellular. Phone rings... in we go! It was very busy and very noisy. Difficult to hear one another across the table. Dinner and specialty drink menus were handed to us. Not your typical fare?? I ordered a Martini and my wife an ice tea. Waiter had difficulty speaking English so an older gentleman came over to explain the menu while we waited for our drinks. Mine arrived. It was only half full!!?? I asked the gentleman "what's up with this?" He explained that they only use a 1 oz shot/pour for all drinks!!! 20 bucks!!! I asked for another oz to at least get close to the rim... "sorry, we can't pour a double!!??" Grrrr. We ordered Dim Sum (appetizers) and the entrees were few and we overheard someone grumbling about their food. They did have a selection "From the Tank" featuring four different live fish including a Bourbot, a fish I've caught in Japan. Sadly, it would have been tempting had they a glass tank visible to the guests, both entertaining and pick your own dinner (I know, I can hear the ladies reading this saying "oh gross" lol) but starting at $62/lb. and not being able to see the tank... they are missing a great lure (pun intended) to try it! We ordered: House rice (best of the bunch) Chicken Wings (they were big, but the coating was not to my liking) and I love chicken wings! Lemon Chicken Wagyu beef potstickers (taste was not extraordinary and they tried to upsell us to beef tenderloins at $65) Crab Rangoon (which we never got) The lemon chicken presented looked sloppy and it was barely warm. Folks next to our table order the same and theirs looked totally different and appealing. My two sips of my drink and it was gone. Ordered another ($20) while was waited for the Crab Rangoon (one of my wife's favorites). No show. When the food was brought out, waiters grabbed our water glasses by the rim, to move them out of the way!!??? (Hello Covid and Flu) and God only knows where their hands have been that night. The service was very poor. We were ignored for the entire time. They forgot the Crab Rangoon, handed me a $149 tab (with the missing item listed) seemed like they were only interested in flipping the table. I mentioned the missing item and how disappointing we were. No reaction!! They adjusted the tab. And, we wanted out of there asap. Came here at noon when it is significantly less crowded compared to dinner and had a nice meal. I've had Peiking Duck in Beijing and know the real deal and this is authentic (good enough for Boston). I was hoping for traditional Peiking Duck where they bring out the ducks, wraps, veggie and sauce and you wrap it like a burrito but they changed their menu to be a five course meal. If you want the traditional PK Duck, just ask and they will happily oblige. The five course meal was pretty good. The Duck was legit. I also ordered an oxtail soup that's pretty much a Borsch soup and it is so yummy and beef was tender! My toddler LOVED it despite being a picky eater. Service was solid. You just have to wave them down at times. I was chatting with the waitress and I empathize with the hardship of being in the service industry during a pandemic especially without access to vaccine, she admitted a lot of people come dont leave tip at all...that's so shocking. As a Peking duck lover, this is the only place which served authentic Peking duck I have tried so far. The duck skin was crispy and served with white sugar. In addition, traditional thin rolls, cucumber slices and scallion slices were served. The duck itself was kind of fat. The ones I had in Beijing weren't so greasy. However, this place's Peking duck was still the best among Boston area. I also tried other dishes such as pork belly and some other Cantonese dishes. I didn't have high expectations seeing plenty of negative reviews but our experience at 5PM on Saturday was wonderful. The service was attentive, the food was tasty, fresh and executed perfectly. Maybe we were lucky to order these certain dishes (I tried to avoid items which were destroyed repeatedly in negative reviews) , but every single thing on our list was a hit. We would reorder all of these dishes (See photos attached) Give this restaurant a try, I could not find a single thing to complain about. Came here with my girls and we definitely splurged!! From the beginning to the end, we were well serviced and the people working here are truly great staffs. Like I said- even the front counter where they take reservations. All of the servers were kind and attentive. We got little chairs for our purses which was cute. The food was authentic asian Cuisines. I would recommend getting the hor fun noodles, their assorted barbecue platter for appetizer (duck, roast pork, and char siew bbq oork)- these were all so flavorful and soft, and my most favorite was their dessert!! Came here on a first date for Chinese New Year 2022 and ended up raving more about the food than the guy lol Here's why I'd come back... PROS - Food: They double fry the chicken for the general tso's so it comes out extra crispy and the sauce is perfectly balanced in sweetness and spiciness! Mixed feelings about the Boston location. I stay at the Wynn Vegas twice a month, usually 3-4 days per visit, and dine at the Red 8 there once per visit. The decor is consistent between both locations. Clean, spacious, ample dining tables given the size of the casino. Location is near the casino floor, so it's not a trek, which is uber important to me, and the distance to the nearest bathroom is all but 10-15 feet from the restaurant entrance. Here's the thing to know about Red 8 in general. There is a small selection of great dishes (I'd say 25%) in either location, that is authentic, and definitely worthy of regular visits. another 20% are good. The remaining 55% are "meh". The trick is to know which 25% are the good dishes. Unfortunately, they differ for each location. I dined at the Red 8 in Boston 4 times over three 3 days to sample as many dishes as I could. Here are the best, or most authentic dishes I recommend for Boston: - cold roast chicken in soy sauce - dim sum (hargow, chicken feet, siu mai, pork buns) - Shanghainese soup dumplings - baby bok choy in scallop sauce - Ma Po tofu (though it was a tad bit on the Szechuan spice side) The above-average or "ok" dishes were: - Hong Kong style crispy seafood noodles - hot and sour soup - dim sum egg custard tarts (dessert) SUCKfest or "meh" : - Peking Duck was chewy, oily (more than usual for the dish), gross, and the pancakes were unusually thick. I ate 2 because I was hungry, but definitely did not order this again after the first day. Then again, I'm REALLY picky about my Peking duck after eating this around the world for the last 20 years. If you're not picky.... it may be considered "average". - Malaysian chicken satay (peanut sauce completely different from the more authentic Malaysian sauce in Vegas). HATED this. The service is rather horrible. Don't get me wrong on the staff friendliness. They are SUPER friendly. The problem is the wait time between order and delivery, as well as the time between server visits throughout the meal. Occasionally, a couple of ordered items on two visits, never made it to the table, yet appeared on the bill. Considering the high price of the menu, I expect better..... MUCH better. First of all, the decor, including the tables (all marble), floor (marble), walls (gold inlays), lighting (recessed), and house music are fabulous! The tables and floor are lined with black and ivory marble. So exquisite! The walls are striped with gold inlayed in the white pristine walls, and the ceiling has recessed lighting laid behind/above circles and fantastic elongated rectangles with sharp and exciting corners pointing towards the kitchen and the casino floor. So I came on opening day of Encore Boston Harbor. We had to wait a bit but definitely well worth it. We got the shrimp fried rice, pork belly, and chili prawns. Wowow!! The shrimp fried rice wasn't just fried rice with your peas and carrots. This had small pieces of cauliflower and broccoli and green onions. The chili prawns was spicy with a brown sauce and just the right amount of sauce to cover the prawns and veggies (edamame, broccoli, peppers). The prawns are jumbo!! Amen to that! This is the Asian restaurant located inside the Encore hotel. The used to have great food and good service, especislly the Peking duck, possibly the best in the Boston area. However, recent change of management and chefs really brought this place down. Menu items are now limited and quality of food went downhill as well. This place only gets 4 stars because of the staff & service, otherwise its a solid 3. I keep coming back here because my parents like it here and its near the casino. I've come often enough over the years to say the following: Staff are always kind, responsive, and prompt. They stand out and they do a great job here. They've cut down pretty significantly on the menu options since they first opened, which is a bummer because the food was actually worth it back then. The food here is generally a miss for the price point, but on random rare occasions the food is actually quite good. I've basically had everything on the menu at least 3 times now and the only thing truly consistent are the now off menu vegetables, yu choy fried rice, the clams and the chow fun. The barbecue options tend to be too oily/greasy and so does the peking duck. The fried dishes tend to be overcooked and dry. The dumplings are very meh. The lobster is usually also overcooked and dry as well... and at that price point, that's pretty bad. As for the americanized dishes... they're overly sweet and its the dominate profile. The noodle dishes are usually OK, but wouldn't necessarily recommend them. All in all, the food is meh, but the service and ambiance are generally great. I've had several occasions here where some of the dishes are actually really well prepared, so thats why I'll leave this place a 4 rather than a 3. read more

I was disappointed/annoyed that parking is not (even partially) comp'd, and at $22 minimum, that's a hefty TAX on the meal, preventing me from returning or recommending any of the casino restaurants (less you're staying at the hotel or gambling at the casino). Overall, the food was good, though mostly not worth the price. $24 for pad thai was steep. $8 for 3 bbq pork buns was a little pricey, but not unreasonable. $8 for 2 small scoops of ice cream was expensive. $11 for a few small sticks of chicken satay was also not a great value. None of the costs were outrageous, but visit a local place for 30-50% cheaper. If you feel like waiting hours at a table for a drink then RED 8 should be your go to place for service. My friends and I had a reservation on a sat night - but that didn't matter we had to wait almost 30 minutes to be seated. Once seated, an assortment of waiters stopped by our table until we seemed to finally have one. We ordered drinks which seemed to overwhelm the kind but inexperienced waitress. When we had questions on the menu she sort of freaked out and said she needed to get someone.. Then she came back and we ordered apps. 42 mins later ( yes at this point we began timing) still no drinks but the apps and entrees begin arriving. When my friend politely asked about our drinks she was told " we're busy, you'll get them when you get them! That quote sums up the night perfectly. Basically there seems to be no rhyme or reason to their staff, ordering, etc. they just help you when they help you. No one is going to ask if if you'd like a refill on your drink , except water. They have two waitresses running around with water refills every two seconds. As we were there to celebrate a birthday we had asked for a dessert at the end. We had to remind them about it and then they finally brought out a fortune cookie with breyers ice cream on it. Overall food tasted fine but the random times of items arriving with lousy service actually made us laugh. Save your money from Red 8 and put it towards the slots at encore instead. read more

The peking duck was good, but came out lukewarm and we definitely would have preferred it warmer. The mapo tofu had a decent amount of Szechuan spice, but the tofu lacked flavor and was more so just a vessel for the spice. The black pepper beef tenderloin was very tender, but for the portion we received I don't think it was worth the $49. The wok tossed peashoots were delicious and looked very appetizing as they were a very vibrant green. All in all, an okay meal that was not quite worth the price point.
