The service at Recette was very impressive - the staff checked on us frequently and were very responsive. The food was really yummy - I was impressed by the French Onion Soup and Short Rib Cavatelli. It is a really nice place to catch up with friends. The decorations are well done. I would definitely come back, but I'll bring my parents so they can pay. read more

This review is for brunch only. Made a reservation for their covered outdoor area for a Saturday with four people plus two small dogs. I live around the area and this will now be a staple spot! None of the food was mind blowing, but it was very good. Service was great and the covered outdoor area is small, but cute with hanging plants and great if you have dogs. I ordered: -Croque Madame: perfection! Ooey gooey, and cheesy. -Blueberries Pancakes: we ordered this as a shareable for the table. Nothing fancy, but they are delicious pancakes. Others ordered the burger and eggs benedict with ham. Both people really enjoyed their meals! read more

To dine at Recette is to love Recette so book a reset and prepare to fall in love! All of the food here is so delicious and that is matched by the service and the cocktails. This gem is easily missed for other bigger buzzier locations but it's a must dine. Amazing for small groups, dates or large groups. The decor is fun and whimsical and the food thoughtfully crafted with flavor and French delight. I went once and have been back several times since. It's now a go to for me and hope it will be that for you too. Must haves French Onion Soup Croquet Monsuire Croquet Madame Nutella French Toast read more

Recette - Loved meeting the owner! Such a friendly and incredible staff - French Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Came to Recette for a birthday dinner with friends and it proved to be a perfect choice with its charming interior and chill ambiance conducive to easy conversation. We ordered the charred octopus, pesto burrata, kale and fennel salad, roasted chicken au jus, mixed mushroom truffle gnocchi, braised short rib cavatelli, and the cardamom panna cotta, and all were excellent (the chicken was a bit drier than we'd have liked but we suspect that was because it stayed a little too long beneath the heat lamp). Cocktails were inventive and flavorful, particularly the Oui Mademoiselle and Touch of Ginger. An all around enjoyable evening, highly recommended. read more

What a cute French restaurant, just perfect for a night out for chitchats with nice ambience. The indoor portion is a bit crowded, but the bar looks pretty decent. The outdoor portion is nicely enclosed, heaters included. We tried quite a few dishes: the Heirloom tomato burrata was really refreshing, Burrata Cheese so chewy and awesome; the Branzino fish was tasty; and Maitake mushroom was pretty fun and crispy. Service was friendly and accommodative. Our chicken needed some extra fire at first, but our server quickly apologized and took it back in. Overall positive experience! read more

A good friend of mine was in town and we made some dinner plans. Recette had been on my radar for a few days and I'm glad we made the decision to go. First and foremost its a gorgeous spot in Williamsburg, the decor is inviting, romantic and really makes you feel at home. A gentlemen met us at the door and greeted us, welcomed us in and had us pick any table we wanted. ...We should have gotten a bigger table, French Onion soup is delicious, complex, depth of flavor and served with traditional gruyere cheese. A truffle, mushroom, goat cheese flatbread was a perfect shared appetizer Linguini Bouillabaisse, Mussels, Frites, everything cooked perfectly, seafood cooked just to the point of doneness, without being rubbery. Service was super attentive even though the restaurant was busy. The recommendations were spot on and I even tried an egg white based cocktail. Crème Brulee was good and a bit more dense than I have had before, but the flavor was really spot on. All in all this French restaurant really adds some much needed Parisian flair to the neighborhood. I can't wait to come back here and try the other signature cocktails they have on their menu. The hospitality is fantastic and the food is the icing on the cake. Don't make the mistake of not visiting this new up and coming spot! read more

Happened to just stumble upon Recette for brunch & it was such a great find! The restaurant is super cute with both a great outdoor seating area & of course indoor dining. The outdoor shed does have air conditioning, a MAJOR PLUS!!! The decor is very neighborhood french bistro. The service was great & attentive, even on a busy Saturday brunch. We ordered the burger, which was seasoned to perfection. The Nutella French toast for a sweet fix & the eggs/meat breakfast... all were a hit!! read more

Very cute, easy-going, yet high end location! Absolutely loved the aesthetic and the openness of the restaurant. Despite being small, there's no sense of crowding or loudness. Food was delicious and a pleasant experience on the mouth and belly :D What we ordered: French Onion Soup - 9/10 Very solid. Love how they don't skimp on the cheese. It was roughly 80% cheese and 20% broth when usually that's switched around. Liked taking the broiled crispy bits and dipping them in the soup. Wild Mushroom Flatbread - 8/10 Bit biased here since I don't usually like goat cheese nor mushrooms (but a huge fan of truffle), but I'm trying to introduce foods I tend to deviate from into my palate. Very delicious and paired together well! Dough was immaculate. Octopus - 8/10 Very unusual flavors! Sweet, bitter, tangy, salty, savory all in one. Short Rib Cavatelli - 9/10 Exactly what you want. Love the texture of the pasta. Generous dollop of ricotta which is always welcome Peach Cheesecake - 5/10 Like cheesecake with canned peaches on top. Good! Nothing special. read more

I came here during happy hour (Mon-Fri 4-6 pm) and had the best dining experience. The decor here is so cute. I love how they were decked out in twinkly lights and Christmas decor during the holiday season. I also noticed that opened up the windows, so that the indoor space seamlessly connects to the outdoor patio space, similar to how it's done in Paris. I highly recommend making in time for their happy hour, you get so much bang for your buck. The escargot and the mushroom flatbread were really good. I also really enjoyed the drinks we got, Jardin and the Oui Mademoiselle. It's a great place to try French food at a reasonable price. The staff was very attentive, checked in on us regularly, and even made sure that we made it for last call happy hour. I will definitely make a trip back to try their full menu! read more

Really great little dinner and drinks spot. We came here for a late meal and really enjoyed the ambiance of the cozy, outdoor cafe. The drinks were good and the food as well. The restaurant has gorgeous decor decadent with deep gold mirrors, open window concepts, and beautiful pink and sunset colored flowers draping from the inside out. The food was delicious. I went for restaurant week and enjoyed everything, but most of all the lavish deserts. Crème brûlée of course, panna cotta & poached pear-- still thinking of the taste. The best part was the cocktail-- mango and passionfruit purée really added an amazing touch to these refreshing drinks that were beautifully garnished. Came to Recette on a Sunday night with a partner and has the loveliest dinner. The restaurant was not super packed and we were able to sit outside, which was nice since it was a warm spring evening. The waiting staff was very friendly and our food came out very fast! We ordered a French onion soup to split as our appetizer. I'm not the biggest fan of French onion soup, but this one was quite good-crispy Gruyère top with really really good slow cooked onions that might burn your tongue If you're not careful. I got the braised short ribs cavatelli and my partner got the burger--both were delicious. The fries were excellent, crispy yet light. My only qualm was the cavatelli was actually an orecchiette, but I didn't mind too much since it tasted wonderful. Next time we'll have to try the truffle gnocchi and stay for dessert (eyeing the crème brûlée)! read more

We've been looking for a small homey French bistro and we found it here. The staff was super welcoming and attentive. The food was incredible. We started with the tuna carpaccio, steak tartare and the charred octopus. The tuna was super fresh and the steak tartare and the octopus was some of the best I've had. We then had the duck with potato puree in a mushroom cream sauce. The duck was practically fall off the bone and everything else complemented the duck nicely. For dessert we had the apple tart a la mode, and though I'm not a huge fan of apple desserts I truly enjoyed this. Will definitely be back! read more

Phenomenal, authentic, and fairly priced French food. Quality: 5 Value: 5 Service: 5 Ambience: 5 We were in town staying right nearby and ended up eating here three different times. We had one dinner, one happy hour, and one dessert visit here, because every time we came it was so cute, so friendly, and we knew we had to try just one more thing on the menu. The steak-frites were AWESOME. They are worth the price. The French onion soup was also delightful. The molten lava cake was just alright. Their wine list and cocktails are remarkable, and so are the servers. I would recommend this place over other French spots in Williamsburg. read more

Absolutely loved my meal at Recette! We had all my favorite French classics (Escargot, Steak Frites, Creme Brulee) and I was impressed with all three. We also tried the octopus from the appetizer list which may have been my favorite thing from the whole meal. The team was so friendly from the second we entered the door, and the vibes were perfect (I loved all the floral elements). Both the patio and inside were decently full but not too jam-packed to the point where I felt uncomfortable. Will definitely be going back to try their brunch at some point in the future - I need to try that Croque Madame! read more

Upon a second visit, I am slightly more underwhelmed. I'm mostly taking issue with their entrees hovering uncomfortably around $40 and their cocktails at around $19 (the neighborhood median is $14) matched with wildly inconsistent service (there was so much confusion!), dirty water glasses, and food that is solid, but does not surpass Recette's cheaper neighbors (Bistro So, Leo, Lamonte). They are not Francie, and they do not have a Michelin star. The French Onion Soup is a decadent as can be, and their flatbreads are delicious, but droopy. The pasta dishes are tasty, but seem a tiny bit sparse. The burger, however, was a soppy mess that could barely hold itself together. It's a good restaurant, and you'll have a nice time here, but it's comically overpriced. read more

Recette - For these prices, the burger should not have been a sopping wet mess. The burger is....$26. - French Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I get the impression that they are still getting their feet underneath them at Recette. The elements are there for a great restaurant, but our experience was decidedly mixed. The four stars are a bit aspirational and also a reflection of the fact that MOST of the food was fantastic (with one glaring exception). Caveat: I am half French and grew up eating French cuisine, so my standards may be slightly different from the average diner. We had a reservation for Restaurant Week but when we came in, our seating options were either a tiny table near the drafty front door OR to sit at the bar. We chose the latter - but my feeling is that, given we had a reservation, we should've had better options. Starters: my friend had the steak tartare, and it was sublime. My escargots, though, were just terrible. First of all, they were bone-cold. Usually when you get snails, they are actually too hot to eat. Second, rather than being in a butter/garlic sauce or something like that (sometimes they are in a tomato-based sauce), they were in a watery consomme. Honestly, they were probably the worst snails I ever had. We both got the steak frites and the creme brulee, and both of those were fantastic: crispy fries, tender steak, and the perfect crunchy coating on the creme brulee. read more

Came here during Restaurant week to try out their food and overall, it was pretty good! The steak tartare and escargot were both pretty classic but tasty, and the soup was heartier than I thought. It is too bad they didn't have the stew option available from their prix fixe menu when we went there, was really looking forward to that. The salmon was alright overall and the steak was fine. The crème brulee was a little off because mine didn't have the best brulee and didn't have that resounding cracking sound but the crème was good. My mothers crème kind of had the opposite problem whereas her brûlée was better done but her creme was really rough, probably cause the eggs started cooking too much. Overall, still pretty good, and would probably choose to get a bunch of appetizers to split. read more

Pretty solid spot. We came during NY restaurant week and got their set menu. We got the steak tartare and escargot for apps, salmon and veal stew for entrees, and the creme brulee and panna cotta for dessert. The steak tartare was good, but the escargot was okay. I've never had it before, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to taste, but it was a little rubbery and bland? The salmon was fine, nothing that special, could have used a little more salt or flavor. The veal stew was really good. Very flavorful and the meat was very tender. Both desert dishes were good, I preferred the creme brulee over the panna cotta, but can't go wrong with either. Their Natalie cocktail was also really good! I'd go back to try some of their other dishes. read more

Really wonderful place, had the restaurant week menu with a friend and split a bottle of lovely, $39 bottle of red for restaurant week. The food was delicious - I shared the tartare and escargot. The tartare was deliciously meaty, but the escargot was slightly rubbery and cold. But the garlicky parsley concoction that it came with was delectable. The beef stew was so well cooked - the beef chunks tender and soft, and the assortment of comfort veggies added a great touch. The dessert was super rich - the panna cotta turned out to be close to creme brûlée - but hey, I wasn't complaining! It was creamy and just the right amount of sweet. read more

Surprised how highly this place is rated. Trendy but poor service. The waiters don't seem to care (forgot one thing on the order) and seem unskilled (our waiter seemed to have a hard time even putting in the order into her handheld system). Had dinner with friends at Recette on Monday night. With the extent of the menu we tried, there were shockingly few exciting dishes and way too large a bill for what we got. Quality: After trying multiple dishes from the Prix-Fixe Menu as well as the standard menu, I simply was not impressed. I started with the Voulez Vou Mocktail, which was not good. It clearly needed some sweet element to pull it together. The French Onion Soup was fine. Despite looking good, it would not be something I would feel the need to order again. The Steak Tartare was substantial, but bland and lacking salt. The Escargot and the Mushroom Flatbread were both okay. My entree, the Short Rib Cavatelli was the worst of the night. Overcooked pasta, flavorless meat, and an extremely bland sauce. Not sure what the thought behind it was. The NY Strip Steak had a decent piece of meat, but it was the sauce that made the dish. For dessert they served a pretty good Panna Cotta. Quantity: The Prix-Fixe Menu on its own is quite substantial. Value: $14 for the Mocktails. $14 for French Onion Soup. $36 for the Steak Tartare For 2. $59 for the Prix-Fixe Menu. Ambiance: Recette sits on a quiet corner in Williamsburg. They have an outdoor shelter, a wrap-around outdoor patio extension, and a main indoor dining area. Lots of plant life filled the more casual space, though the bar area was very chic. The real highlight was the fun and quirky music choices, which spanned genres and languages. Crowd: One larger party and two couples. Service: Very friendly staff, but they seemed ill-prepared and unfamiliar with the menu. They needed to take our order multiple times, and we still needed to prod them to get all our items and our drinks. Parking: Plenty of parking right outside. read more
