I love Ray's! The donuts are delicious- my favorites are the Bear Claw, Apple Fritter, Raspberry Filled and Strawberry Iced. But their blueberry, devil's food, sourdough and sugar raised are also so delicious. At $0.90 a donut they are a great price. Earlier this week I finally tried one of their breakfast sandwiches- an egg and cheese served meltingly hot on a GIANT croissant and it was SO worth it. Their coffee is also real tasty and they have fresh creamer and flavored creamers available too. The service is fantastic- the people who work there are just so so nice and friendly. Also if you order a dozen donuts they'll throw in a handful of their donut holes which is real sweet. My family and friends are definitely loyal Ray's fans and if you check them out you will be too!! A GREAT WAY TO START THE DAY! Some people start the day with tea, coffee or a vitamin. However, I think that it is okay to start with the occasional donut. We were headed to the Mall of Georgia and were not quite ready for breakfast. We decided that a donut or roll would be the perfect option so I checked my bookmarks and discovered Ray's. I was initially attracted to this shop because it is very traditional and seemed to have the type of donuts I enjoy. It is three miles north of the mall so it wasn't too far out of the way. This shop is located on the west side of the street next to the Chevron. If you are not looking for it, you might miss it. It is a very simple building with a large drive-thru menu on the side of the shop, just before you get to the drive-thru window. Today, it was not open. I was surprised to see that Ray's also offers breakfast sandwiches and wraps. They had a nice selection of plain glazed and lightly frosted donuts in various forms: twists, sourdough, cinnamon rolls and holes. They also had more adventurous options if you are interested. My husband decided on the plain glazed option with coffee while I decided on the classic sour cream and a dozen donut holes to share. My donut was substantial and delicious, while not being too heavy or over glazed. My husband enjoyed his plain glazed donut and we both enjoyed the donut holes. My husband described his coffee as weak and I was disappointed that I could not get a cup of coffee with ice because they only have bottled water available. Of course I am not inclined to believe that they can't deliver a cup of water with ice but understand that they are interested in maximizing profits. Oh well, good thing I didn't come for the water. Good donuts but you may want to bring your own beverage! ***You may eat in but the space is small with only three tables available. read more

So happy to see Ray's Donuts open in our community! This was our second trip to Ray's, and I am so pleased with the service and quality! Better than Krispy Kreme! We got two eclairs from the drive-through, both filled while we waited, and super fresh! At our visit, we got bagels with cream cheese, and were given some donut holes to try, which were exceptional! The donut holes were soft and glazed just right! The bagels were just okay, didn't hit the spot like New York bagel places, but being from NJ, I'm a hard sell. They have a wide variety of donuts to choose from, just like the fancy pants donut boutiques in Atlanta. We will definitely be going here again (and again), and will be getting an order for Christmas breakfast! Also, love the early hours! Perfect for teachers. read more

This review is based only on the donuts. We've eaten these donuts now for a couple of weeks and they are quite possibly the best in town. Not too sweet, not too overcooked, and you can tell it's fresh ingredients. I was on a mission to find good fresh donuts after I went to Krispy Kreme and they got my donuts out the refrigerator and they were cold and hard. Ray's is the best I ever had. They just melt in your mouth, super delicious. Rays makes their donuts fresh everyday and you can really taste the difference. Well it has finally happened. Let me cut to the end. New ownership, changed the recipe, not nearly as good. There have been a few restaurants at this location and Rays was the best fit. A true yeast donut! When the previous owners sold the oldest son stayed behind for several weeks. My hope was the new owner would learn and respect the art. No such luck, now these donuts lack the yeast taste, not enough salt, and the health score has dropped below 90. I am so disappointed. Here are your options: Krispy Kreme a staple you can't go wrong but if you want that true yeast donut there is the original Rays owned by the previous owners of the buford location in Lawrencville or there is Sarah's donuts at the corner of Lawrencville Swanee and Satellite Boulevard in Swanee. read more

So I ran a race nearby, and they promised pancakes after the race. To my dismay by the time I finished my cool down, the pancakes had disappeared! Whoops. So I had to find an alternate breakfast. I found this cute little spot down the road thanks to Yelp. It's located next to a gas station, and I had my doubts but decided to drop in. Glad I did. They were super busy. They had lots of doughnut choices, but some were sold out and in the process of making more. They don't do the super fancy type doughnuts, but I don't mind that. I got three cinnamon sugar twists and a powdered chocolate filled doughnut. My daughter had wanted a chocolate frosted, but there was a wait so I chose to just get her another sugar twist. My partner in crime liked the powdered chocolate, but thought the chocolate was thicker than he had hoped for. I tried the sugar twist, and it was super fresh and good. The insane part was the price. I paid less than $4 for all those doughnuts! I couldn't believe it. And they were so good on top of that! I truly wish this place was closer to my house, because I'd be frequenting it a lot more. It's not fancy, but who needs fancy? Just pop in and grab a doughnut. You won't be disappointed. read more
