We stopped by Ray's Donuts around 12:35pm (they close at 1pm), and I'm so glad we did. Normally we try not to visit places right before closing, but something told me to give it a shot and it was so worth it! They're currently under construction on the outside, but don't let that stop you. The shop is connected to a gas station, so once you see that, you'll know you're in the right spot. Parking is just like any other gas station lot, simple and convenient. The service was excellent! She walked us through the menu and explained the most popular donuts. We grabbed the maple bacon, blueberry, apple cinnamon bear claw, Fruity Pebbles, glazed, and chocolate cream. Every single one was delicious. My grandpa Frank LOVED this spot. He passed away last year in August and haven't mustered up the courage to go back. Today I did. Let me tell you why this place deserves more than 5 stars. This establishment has the most friendliest people. Everytime Frank came in they treated him so kindly. They threw in extra donuts and that made his week! During Covid they would take them to his car door when he would pull up. Service is #1 for them and he had to have his weekly pickup. The donuts ARE fresh and yummy. No staleness at all here! The sandwhiches are also elite. The ambiance is a clean, very simple building. Nothing fancy but what makes up the personality is the people of this place. Can I just scream WOW!!? We made a quick stop to grab some donuts to go. When I say the service is fast, it's fast! We were in and out within 4 mins. As soon as you open the door you can smell the donuts. The gentleman handling the register was very patient as my kids picked out which donut they wanted. I got the maple bacon donut. Basic to say the least. Your typical hole in the wall donut spot where everyone in the neighbourhood flocks because of location. It took me a minute to figure out their exact location because they share they property with an Exxon gas station. The signs on their side of the building were old and out of date. The photo i posted shows them with white masking tape blocking the old donut prices (lol). I personally thought this was distasteful from a business point of view. This did not stop their doors from swinging in on the right and out on the left. I waited a few more moments to see what the constant patronage was all about from my vehicle. It was just before lunch time and i was certain the selection was limited close to "none". As i walked in i don't recall an area for seating. From the looks of it everyone who made a purchase went right back in their car and used it as a dining room. As i walked in there was a very kind woman behind the counter that offered me help. I purchased a glazed donut and a plain doughnut with chocolate icing, grabbed napkins and proceeded back to my car. I had about a 45 minute drive until i reached my destination so i had managed to try one while driving. It was ok as i mentioned before. Basic donut spot with basic flavours Rays appears to be the only spot out this far that comes highly recommended. It did not impress me as much. This place was highly rated and recommended by others so I was truly disappointed when I came. We came at 8:30am and quit a bit of donuts were gone and they are definitely not fresh. It's sad when I feel like Dukin Donuts or Krispy Kreme would of been better. I didn't even finish these donuts because they weren't worth the calories. They are small and taste like old oil that needs to be changed. The coffee is super weak. The customer service was the only thing good and the fact that I only wasted $8. We had the cinnamon roll, apple fritter, strawberry sprinkle, Boston creme and raspberry filled. I also had an egg and cheese croissant. The donuts were really good, though we got their late, 11:00 so certainly not fresh out of being created. The fritter was good, but a bit dry and a little too crunchy for me, but a food amount of apple to it. My son loved the cinnamon roll, I prefer more sticky goodness to it but it was perfect for him. The croissant was smooshed so the croissant itself wasn't great. I like this flaky but tender this was just mushy. But it was still decent. Service was fine, not overly friendly but fine and did the job needed. I wouldn't hesitate to come back but can't give it a raving review as it was just your average donuts. read more

Tucked away attached to a gas station in Dacula, I was in need for a quick breakfast and Ray's came to help. Got 6 donuts and a croissant sandwich for under $10. What a steal. Or is it? The line moved really fast, and we made our way up. They had breakfast sandwich options, and then the glass case of available donuts. Everything is made fresh, so some options weren't available. My honey wanted some chocolate glazed but they had just come out and needed a few minutes to cool down. They had some good options, and I bet if we had gotten there an hour earlier we would have had more. I opted for one of the big cinnamon twists and a powdered donut with chocolate filling. My gf got two big cinnamon twists. The service was fast and friendly. The shocking part was the cost. 3 big cinnamon twists and a powdered chocolate filled donut for UNDER $4!?! Surely we got rang up wrong? The cinnamon twist was soft, semi-moist and loaded with cinnamon sugar goodness. Very good! The powdered donut was also soft and semi-moist. The filling was thicker than I had thought, almost like a fudge icing. I did like it, but was hoping more for a creme-like filling. Still, it was good! This is one of my top 2 favorite donut joints! For years I had passed by the quaint, outdated gas station duplex that houses Rays and I now wish I could stop in each morning. The no frills building and interior boast some seriously tasty and memorable donuts! My favorites are the strawberry iced, blueberry cake and maple bacon donuts. For the quality and variety that this locally owned donut shop offers, their low prices make Rays Donuts an incredible value. We normally pick up a dozen with a mix of 3-4 specialty donuts ($0.99 extra each) and it usually still only comes out to $12-$13! They bake their donuts fresh throughout the morning and it smells wonderful when you walk in. The family staff that works there is friendly and quickly gets you in and out. There are a few seats inside but most customers grab and go (like me!). Don't be surprised though if you see some people (myself included) grab a quick bite in the car on the way home. I highly recommend Rays if you're a donut lover and if you're tired of Dunkin and grocery store bakery donuts. Be warned, you will have higher standards for donuts after eating a Rays donut. read more

I've attempted to pick up donuts from Rays on several occasions and have missed out, for instance it being just past 1 p.m., or in two cases, a Monday morning (grrr, see my pic of their business card that says "Open 7 Days!"), and in one more case because the traffic around their intersection and parking lot was a clusterjumblemess. Made it there this past weekend and it's a very humble and plain location, but their customer service is stellar. I only intended to get 2 donuts, but ended up with a box of 6, and I found the red velvet to be too dry and cakey, but the apple fritter was delicious. The coffee was pretty lousy, like teabag-motel-coffee-maker quality. I'd have given this unassumingly awesome neighborhood non-corporate donut joint a solid 5 stars if it wasn't for the crummy coffee and their business card saying that they're open 7 days, when they're actually closed on Mondays. read more
