On my 2024 Tour of Steakhouses, this was at the top of the list. Where do I even begin? First I have to say we were well taken care of by the General Manager Devante and our server Alex. Both individuals made the experience a 10/10. The location is easy to find right off of Michigan, near the lake. There is a garage across the street with affordable parking by the hour but Ubering is a safer bet because the cocktail menu is amazing. We sat in one of their gorgeous booths in the back by their library. Although their dining room isn't enormous, there are plenty of seats and two private rooms. I think they utilize them as general seating when they aren't booked for parties, but again, plenty of room in the dining area. The bar was also large with a decent amount of seating. We started with martinis and calamari. The calamari comes with a spicy and a sweet dipping sauce. Per Alex's recommendation, we split the chopped salad. It's full of vegetables that compliment each other perfectly. They also bring enormous flaky popovers with a honey butter. You'll start with half because they're so big, but you'll finish the whole thing because addicting. For dinner I had the NY Strip and my friend had the Bottleneck. Both were cooked perfectly. We went with creamed corn (very strong smoky flavor), broccolini, and lobster mac. The lobster mac had a generous amount of lobster so I was very happy. For dinner we split their crème brûlée special, which was s'more flavored. Yum! We each also got some espresso because all of that eating had us exhausted. Alex and Devante stopped by the table periodically to chat. We had such a great time making small talk and learning about the establishment. After dinner we explore their library which is full of vintage books. It's hard to choose a highlight to our trip because everything was perfection. We haven't stopped talking about our visit and are recommending everyone try out this top tier steakhouse!!

Overall, food & drink: 3 stars; service: 5 stars; environment: 5 stars. I went for diner with my girlfriend on a Saturday. First time at Rare for both of us. We made the 5:45 PM reservation in the morning so we got seated right away. The restaurant was already pretty busy. Although it was dark inside, the atmosphere was absolutely warm and delightful. The inner design and decoration are nice and fancy. Our servers were very friendly and responded to our orders and requests fast. We ordered a glass of red wine and a glass of white wine for drink, one Oyster Rockefeller for appetizer, two 7 oz fillets for entree, one asparagus for side, and one espresso crème brûlée for dessert. The wine was great! Bread: So delicious!!! Crispy outside and chewy inside. I could eat a lot if this was a breakfast lol. Oyster Rockefeller: Flavors were good. The oysters were thin and small though. 7 oz fillet: I ordered my fillet medium plus (cook a bit longer than medium) and my girlfriend ordered a well-done one. It turned out that mine was overcooked and hers was undercooked so they were so similar... Flavors were good and sizes were big enough for us though. Asparagus were good. espresso crème brûlée: My girlfriend said it was okay. Don't get me wrong - it was delicious but there was just nothing really special. I think the presentation could look better (btw we looked at Yelp for dessert suggestions but the photos of desserts are all not attractive... and where are the berries on top as shown in one of the pictures?)

This place was absolutely amazing! If you're looking for a romantic atmosphere for an upscale date night, this is a place TO GO.

Absolutely amazing dining experience. I truly appreciate that there is a Downtown Dining week and that Restaurants such as Rare give people a chance to try their establishment at lower prices. This place is truly upscale. Everyone enjoyed their food. Not a speck of food was left on the plates after dinner. I obviously ordered the steak because that's what Rare is known for. My steak was cooked to absolute perfection. The manager came by our table to see how we liked it and talked to us about their very expensive ovens and just how much expertise and TLC goes into their food. This place is very much worth the experience. I'm not entirely sure I could afford Rare outside of Downtown Dining week. But you can bet I'll be back. Service was amazing. Drinks were on point. Everything was perfect.

Happy hour review. We sat at the bar. We started with the shrimp cocktail and it was great! I'm not sure if we somehow ordered just a half order or not cause it was half the price we expected on our bill but I'm assuming it was because there were only 5 pieces of shrimp. The shrimp was great quality and huge! The cocktail sauce was classic but a little spicy. We then had to ask for bread and butter which i wish they just brought to everyone but this may be because we were at the bar and not an actual table. The bread was soft and the butter was sweet - both delicious! We then got the steak frites. This has a mountain of well seasoned and crispy fries. The steak was tender and had a nice char on the outside. Lastly we got the pork belly sliders and this was also perfect! Came with fries and the actual sliders had a good amount of pork belly and a cherry jam that paired well with the sliders. The fries had a great dipping sauce that had a sweet aftertaste. Overall great and I'd definitely come back. Only reason I gave 4 stars is cause the steak had a good amount of fat in it.

St. Paul Fish Market is located inside the very busy and popular Milwaukee Public Market indoor shopping complex downtown. It reminds me of the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle. The only parking option that I am aware of is metered street parking. The building has 2 levels but the 1st floor is where most of the business are. It appeared to me that St. Paul's is the most popular business there. It is a seafood restaurant and fresh fish market. They have a small sit down area for table service dining or you can order your food to go at the counter. After being seated and reviewing the menu I decided to order the same meal I had over 11 years ago. I went with a bowl of clam chowder for $8 to start and then added a fried grouper sandwich ($16) with french fries for another $2.50. The chowder was perfect. Flavorful, delicious and I wanted more (5). The sandwich also was delicious and satisfying made with quality fish, lettuce, tomato, and bread. However while it tasted very good halfway through eating it the bread bun started to disintegrate and then quickly turned to mush before I could finish. Then I needed a fork to finish it. It got messy and I don't like that in a sandwich. It's only for that reason I give an overall 4 score instead of a 5. The french fries were very good tasting too but I had ordered too much food and only had room for a few of them. The table service was very warm and friendly. I believe St. Paul's is a very good choice for a casual seafood meal but please buy more sturdy buns!

We arrived early and were told seating begins ad 5:00 if you would like to go to the bar.... Went to the bar and had a martini and a glass of wine. Well we knew it was not going to be cheap but I was a bit floored by the tab of $45 with tip and a charge for using a credit card. We were taken to our table which was at the back of the restaurant with a beautiful view and relatively quiet... perfect. Put our orders in with a very nice waitress: Me: 3 Oysters, Caesar salad, Lobster Tails Glass of wine Wife: Chopped Salad, LobsterTails, wine BTW. I love to have wine with a meal and enjoy it by the bottle. However in looking at their Wine Book they essentially triple the cost of a bottle. So to have a bottle of champagne was going to put us out over $150 .... for a cheap one. It was offered by the glass for $28. Bread was very good but with cold butter. Hate that. Chopped salad got a very high mark from a salad critic (wife) and my Caesar not so much. Get the one at Cooper's Hawk. for a comparison. The Lobster was great. $74 seems a lot until you go out and but anything comparable. The serving was generous and well prepared. A complimentary desert was offered and it was Chocolate and Hazelnut. VERY highly recommended. My mind had been set on Key Lime Pie so we had that too. Bottom line: $45 bar + $264 dinner+ $61 tip +$10 parking = $380 Would we do it again. Maybe but it was expensive. Oh I forgot there was a $5 charge for using my credit card. Good Grief!!

The only reservation we could get was 4:30PM but we were excited we were able to get in at any time. Because of the timing, the sun was setting over the water, which was really pretty to see. I got a little confused with where to enter the building and I guess I went in the wrong way because I walked down the dock and entered the back of the restaurant by the restrooms, lol. Barnacle Bud's had a cool decor vibe and moody lighting. Our waitress was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and you could tell she was very excited about the menu and the pop-up experience. She provided exceptional customer service- she went over the menu thoroughly, came back to check on us multiple times, and always refilled our water, which I always appreciate! To start, we ordered wine and the relish tray. Everything on the relish tray was a little too vinegary for me but most of the table enjoyed it. However, the four of us didn't finish it. It was pretty powerful with vinegar flavor. For an entree, I had the salmon with veggies and my friends ordered the lamb chops, carbonara, and a vegetarian friend ordered a plate of Bud's potatoes and veggies. The food was good but I thought mine was very salty. And I'm glad I ordered my sauce on the side. For dessert, the four of us shared the mousse, which had good flavor and texture. Also to note, there were up-charges for veggies, sauce was $3 extra, etc., so just pay attention to pricing if that's a concern for you. Overall, it was a unique experience and worth checking out.

The colors, the well-placed low lighting, the appropriate volume of cajun music ... all done in excellent taste. The waitstaff is INCREDIBLE. They all seem to be having a great time, when it's slow, and when it's busy, which is important to see; plus, they help each other out. Waiters, bartenders, bussers, hosts, food-runners - they're often smiling and helpful to anyone. Not only did our waiter Scotty take amazing care of us (a group of 10 on a Saturday night, all arriving at different times; and he had many other tables besides us), but his teammates helped bring drinks, clear the table, and our deliver our food. Everything was timely, fresh, and as far as I know, no errors were made with drinks or food. We were all quite satisfied with our meal. The reason I give 3 stars is, for some reason I do not understand, near the end of our meal, we heard a man yelling quite loudly from the kitchen area AT OUR SERVER. The man (manager I assume) was insisting that Scotty was not attentive to us (and I can't discern a single reason why this would be claimed). Even if he noticed something we didn't -- it could have been a moment of quiet criticism, but this dude turned it into a screaming fit. And he could not have been more wrong. In fact overhearing this exchange (right around the corner, within full earshot of us and the back half of the restaurant) was the ONLY thing that soured our otherwise amazing experience. We then watched who I assume was the same guy (red-faced and angry) sit down at a table very close to us, and our server return a moment later somewhat shaken up. It was awful. We made sure to congratulate him loudly on his impeccable service after that. I don't know if the manager heard or not. But one can hope. This was not my first time here, but it was the first time I've experienced anything like this. Like I said, the team seems solid, our service is always timely and kind (and often, incredibly FUN) even when they're PACKED, the food is bangin', the oysters are fresh and delicious, and EVERYTHING is well priced & spiced! So we will be back. But we really hated seeing our waiter treated like that. For anyone who doesn't know - waiters in WI currently make $2.33/hour. This is below the federal wage rate of $7.25/hour for the same job. They survive off your tips. If they're good, they're great, and GOD BLESS THEM - they must do what they do because they love people. This manager did not seem to appreciate what he had right in front of him. But we did!!!! My husband decided on the jambalaya, I went with the crawfish étouffée, and we split the roasted Cajun cauliflower as an appetizer. While it's hard for this kind of stew-like, saucy, veggie/sausage/seafood over rice mixtures to present beautifully, everything looked, smelled, and tasted delicious. The jambalaya had a little more of a kick than I prefer, but my husband loved it and my crawfish étouffée had the perfect amount of spice without being spicy. The roasted cauliflower was cooked to perfection and was the perfect way to start the meal. Not pictured is the bananas foster bread pudding that was the perfect way to end it.
