Simply put...Onesto is amazing! A friend and I decided to try Onesto for the first time, during Downtown Dining Week, after YEARS of it being on both of our list! Upon the walk up, the patio transports you somewhere else. The interior is beautifully designed (loved the local artwork on the walls). The staff was phenomenal- from the hostess to our server (shoutout to Mars)! The food was amazing! I started with the bruschetta and I haven't had any this good since a certain Bayshore restaurant went out of business in 2019. In general I'm a huge fan of Benson's restaurants, especially when branzino is on the menu and Onesto's is the best I've had from their group! Italian food is one of my favorite cuisines and I've heard about this restaurant by many foodies in the area, so I was eager to try it out! Came here on a date, and we ordered classic dishes that we love like the carbonara and bolognese pasta dishes. I tried both dishes and the carbonara was my favorite of the two, but honestly, both were not the best pasta dishes I've had at a restaurant - they were okay. We did get bread and salted butter and ordered a cup of creamy clam soup - which was delicious. I would consider the bread, soup, and cocktails the highlight of the meal. The service was great! We had a very attentive server that frequently checked in on our table and answered all of our questions. The dining area is absolutely beautiful and well lit - creating a relaxing and romantic atmosphere for our date night. While the pasta wasn't our favorite, the dining experience was still wonderful and we enjoyed the appetizers/small plates. read more

Date of visit: March 27, 2026 This was our birthday dinner with our dear friend Jack; we had not been to Onesto in years and this was as good an opportunity as any to visit an old favorite. Despite the frigid temperatures, the place was very busy! Given that, we weren't able to be seated before our reservation time but that was fine, we hung out at the bar for a bit and the host grabbed us and guided us to our table with expert care. I do wish we didn't have the table closest to the door as there isn't a ton of places for folks to wait and they weren't always courteous about not leaving the door open for those of us already inside. But the window vantage point was nice, as was the birthday card signed by the staff (and I just realized that in our haste to hustle back the several blocks to our car, we forgot it at the table! We must seem so rude!). Ally was our server and she did the best she could with the general busyness at 715 on a Friday night. She did have some assistance with the food delivery by other staff, which I did appreciate as things took a while due to the aforementioned popularity of the restaurant. Food-wise, everything was very good overall but didn't quite stick the landing: - Clam chowder was creamy but a bit heavy on the parsley and not served with crackers. I really love that crunch of the oyster cracker with the cream of the soup. - Bolognese was a very generous portion and the short rib was excellent, but it needed just a little more sauce to keep everything moist. - The tiramisu was several layers and looked perfect, but while the marscapone was delicious, the booze flavor was way too strong for a teetotaler such as myself. Had a reservation for two at 9pm on a Saturday evening. We were greeted right away as we walked into the door and taken to our seat shortly after. Highly recommend a reservation. We sat at a high top and waters were brought right away and some warm house bread. The soup of the day was a salmon soup our waiter informed us. I decided to give it a try. It was delicious. I then ordered their seafood pasta. Once again, delicious. The pasta was cooked to perfection along with the different seafood. We had an amazing time at their annual Galentine's dinner. All five courses were prepared fresh and were favorites of the restaurant. The beet salad was delicious. The three pasta dishes all very flavorful. The chocolate covered strawberry was a nice way to end the meal. Attention to detail was not missed from fun photo ops to a heart shaped jello on our aperol spritz. Chef Corrine came out and spoke about each dish. I finally made my way to Onesto. I feel like Milwaukee has a lot of Italian restaurants and I think this is my favorite. I've probably only been to 3 or 4 others but still. First off our server, Hayden was fantastic. He was super thorough whenever we asked questions about something on the menu. I also felt like if you didn't know something he would be really good and get an answer for us. For drinks we got a sangria and a Italicus Cosmicus. The Cosmicus reminded us of a aperol spritz. They provide warm bread like sliced baguette with butter and olive oil on the table. A place that has bread is a winner in my books and they even offered another basket which I feel like doesn't happen all the time. We started with an appetizer of Bruschetta which was heirloom tomatoes, whipped italian cheese, and basil. For dinner I got the Meatballs & Pasta and honestly I was not a fan of the meatballs. I felt like they were too soft and a little too moist. The flavor also didn't wow me but the pasta was fantastic. I've been to Onesto a few times now and it never disappoints! I love the intimate dining experience it provides guests and i've always had very kind and attentive service. This most recent time visiting, I had a few of my favorites which include their brown sugar espresso martini, bruschetta app, and the Rigate Alla Vodka dish. I enjoy adding a protein to the pasta dishes (meatballs or salmon), although it is an additional cost. I do recommend making a reservation in advance as they get quite busy quickly, especially on weekends . They had a variety of pastas, so it was fun to get to try a little bit of everything. It was really cute and pretty up there. On our 17th wedding anniversary, we returned to the places we had our ceremony, reception and dinner. We went to Onesto hoping our 12 year-old could take a peek at the second floor to see where we hosted our reception. We recognize that they were setting up for an event and would have been fine just walking to top of steps. We were told no multiple times by the hostess. Onesto is always a solid choice for Italian food. The menu isn't extensive but their homemade pasta dishes are to die for. I vacillate between a couple of pasta dishes but ventured out to try the carbonara. My issue is that I haven't had carbonara in so long I forgot that it's not my favorite pasta dish. Tried it and it was good and as I recall very rich in flavor. From a taste perspective should have stayed with the fusilli dish. Not their issue my taste buds. The cup of soup I had was incredible and if it's a special again I will order a bowl and skip an entree. The location is conveniently located to the shopping district of Third Ward within an intimate setting with candles and twinkle lights. From check in to check out, the entire experience was memorable. The pasta is all handmade and there is a giant cocktail and wine list. My table split the burrata which was out of this world along with the house salad served with red wine vinaigrette. I opted for the Rigate alla Vodka which had san marzano tomato, cream, basil and freno chili with added chicken. Know that any pasta can have added protein from salmon to meatballs.
