Stayed the night at Encore Boston Harbor hotel, and decided to dine at Rare Steakhouse for a special occassion. Having walked past it many times, I expected the interior to be very dark inside, but it was actually mostly white and bright, very classy but not what I was expecting. They brought us to our table and I had a cute chair for my purse. We each got a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, and ordered a half dozen oysters. Oysters were fresh and we liked the plating. They also served us warm bread with a sea salt truffle butter I believe. It was yummy! They did charge for seconds of bread so we opted out. We each ordered the Thursday night prime rib special. This special wasn't on the physical menu, but we saw it advertised on the tablet in our hotel room. It came with these delicious glazed carrots and a mashed potato. The prime rib was excellent, and paired in the horseradish sauce, delicious! A large piece of meat and cooked to perfection. I ordered mine medium which was awesome, just the perfect amount of tenderness. After finishing our dinner, we were quite full, so we didn't order a dessert. However, since we were celebrating, they also gave us a mini treat which was nice. We were surprised to see how popular this spot was for groups, and ongoers at the Casino dressed more casually. Of course this is fine dining in the Boston area so the prices reflect that. I will say the food was very good and the service was too. Often I go to fancy restaurants and feel I did not get my moneys worth, but at Rare Steakhouse, I did. We came to Rare at Encore Boston Harbor in Everett for a big celebratory dinner for my mom's birthday, and it was an excellent choice. The first thing you notice is the ambiance, which is nothing like a traditional steakhouse filled with dark woods and heavy décor. This space is the complete opposite, with a very bright, white, light‑colored theme from the furniture all the way down to the carpet. It feels modern and upscale, and definitely sets a different tone than most steakhouses. The food was outstanding. We started with the shrimp cocktail, which was wonderful. The shrimp were large, fresh, and had a great crunch to them. The steaks were extremely good and prepared exactly as requested. Everything came out cooked properly and tasted as a high‑end steakhouse meal should. This is not an inexpensive meal by any stretch of the imagination, but it was well worth it for a special occasion. My husband took me here for a birthday dinner, and we had friends join us. I think that the overall vibe here is supposed to be upscale, but a lot of the people in surrounding tables were a little rough around the edges. A table not far away from us were very drunk and kept yelling things out. It was pretty distracting. Not necessarily anyone's fault, just something I wanted to mention. The food we ordered was excellent, and yes, definitely on the pricier side. $26 for a wedge salad is definitely a lot. The bread service is incredible, and reminds me of the olden days at Abe & Louie's. (They used to have the same heavenly bread and now it's replaced with a terrible bread basket that has crackers and other dry junk in it). The loaded baked potato and my lobster risotto were perfect. Huge chunks of lobster and 3 full claws. The crab cake was delightful too. Yup, finishing out the year with a 5 Star review. My husband and I came for dinner this past Saturday night to celebrate his 40th birthday. (We made 6pm reservations on the iPad in our room the night before) From the moment we walked in, we felt the elegance. The way we were treated/spoke to...the decor..just all of it. A small chair/stool was delivered to be placed beside my chair to put my wristlet on. That's right, my purse had its own chair. The bread and butter brought out to us was sweet, fluffy and dreamy. Our spicy martinis with thoughtfully placed olives were fantastic. Our server Khalid was wonderful, kind and attentive. I had the boneless ribeye and my husband had the filet. Mine was cooked a little more like medium well as opposed to the medium I requested, but that filet was spot on. We shared the side flight of creamed spinach, mac and cheese and roasted corn. Each one of those competing to outdo the other. All three were delicious and although we were full, we just had to finish them. We were celebrating our 27th anniversary and our son's 21st birthday. Dinner was great, and even though we said we were full, they brought two small desserts with candles -- a cute touch. But my son leaned toward the candle for warmth, and his hair caught fire! It went out quickly and he was fine, but the way it was handled wasn't great. As a business owner, I would've at least offered a small discount or some acknowledgment. The manager's response was rude and really disappointing. This place wants to be fancy, but misses the mark for me big time. that they didn't have our reservation even after I'd called not an hour before to check they had it and the person on the phone could confirm it for me... we waited to be seated, while two women tapped on iPads... and the place was basically empty, so it seemed odd not to be seated right away. The service is fine, but tries too hard to be fine dining, when in reality you're in Everett, in a casino, and there's a couple sitting at the next table in matching track suits and for fashion reasons (or personal, who knows) she wasn't wearing anything more than a bra under her jacket. While feeling overdressed and unimpressed, we began to eat- the Rare Salad was fine, it was chopped up like coleslaw and pressed into a tower. The bread and 'volcanic ash salted butter' was also fine until the cloud of fruit flies surrounding us began to touch down on the butter and get stuck in it. A very young suit wearing individual came to the table after our waiter took away the buggy butter and ordered replacements, but the fresh faced kid didn't offer to comp anything beyond the waiter's offer of a glass of wine that the bugs had also made a try for... I was so dumbfounded by the fact that I had flies in my face and food I couldn't politely direct this manager or whatever he was to make right the situation. My husband had a very fatty steak that he didn't like very much, I had the fish which was edible, but I was still put off by the bugs, so we wrapped up his birthday dinner as quickly as we could and leave. I'd almost rather had gambled with the $400 this shitshow cost me, cause the outcome might've been better... I doubt I'd return, unless someone else was paying, and even then, Davio's on an 'off night' is likely still a 1000x better choice... read more

This was my husband and my first time dining here after being told it was the best restaurant at Encore Boston Harbor. We were excited to try it. We were seated and drinks came out quickly and were great. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill once our food arrived. We both ordered steaks (not inexpensive, I might add). At most high-end restaurants, someone waits a moment to ensure your steak is cooked properly -- that did not happen here. Our server dropped the plates and immediately walked away. My husband cut into his steak and it was rare, though he ordered medium. It was not edible. We had to flag down the waiter, who took it back without any apology. After waiting nearly 10 minutes, his steak was returned -- meanwhile mine was completely cold. The replacement steak was visibly overcooked and burnt. Again, it was dropped off with no check-in, no apology, and no "Is everything okay?" For a restaurant with this reputation and price point, the lack of service and attention was shocking. The food was delicious. Our waiter Steven was amazing. I kept telling my husband that the restaurant was what I imagined heaven to look like because of the white tablecloths and chairs. It had very sexy lighting and we had a great time. They were able to accommodate my allergies. Came here for our wedding anniversary wanting to try something new. I ordered Filet which was raw & cold. Cameron brought it back to the kitchen and then brought it back out well done. I told him I won't eat steak well done . My husband's bone in sirloin was medium rare at best. Baked potato came out raw and cold baked potato that was hard as a rock & had to be sent back charged us for a 2nd baked potato after we were told it would be taken off the bill. It was not. We're told we would get complementary dessert and comp the potato would come off the bill yet double charged for the potato. First time here will be our last time here do not recommend to anyone. Our friends just canceled their upcoming reservation. Cameron the manager was pompous & useless. Spoke to me like I was an idiot. Was told the GM would come over but she never did. Our first visit to RARE at the Encore Casino. We were very impressed from beginning to end. The level of service, courtesy, and quality was top notch. Our servers were extremely attentive without being overbearing. Our visit was in celebration of a milestone anniversary, and everyone made a sincere and earnest effort to congratulate us and wish us the best. The cocktails were astounding, both in taste and presentation. We had filet mignon and an aged NY strip. Both steaks were cooked perfectly medium rare as requested, and served sizzling hot. They were fantastic. The sides were delicious as well. We ordered asparagus, which was in a lemony sauce. Perfectly cooked and crunchy. The Brussels sprouts were roasted with pork belly and a pear sauce. We split a giant loaded baked potato served with all the traditional toppings. The Caesar salad was perfect: tangy, delicious dressing served over cold and crispy romaine with white anchovies and croutons. I'm usually aloof when it comes to steakhouses, but this one impressed me. My wife and I split a tomahawk and a few apps/sides - which was more than enough. The presentation, cook, and taste was phenomenal and among the best I've had. The tomahawk did come with all the sauces - chimichurri, barnaise and their signature sauce. And we also did truffle butter. Everything was really rich. Only the chimi and truffle butter is what I'd recommend. The bairnaise is *fine* and their signature sauce ran a little on the sweet side for my liking. Service was warm and welcoming. The place also wasn't as stuffy as it appears. I had an amazing experience at Rare. This establishment offered a lounge area which offered live music. I didn't have a reservation, however, I was able to sit at the bar in the main dining area. The dining area had neutral color decor which was relaxing and clean! The wedge salad was split into two but was still enough. The bacon added the perfect touch to the salad. My steak not prepared as asked but was corrected in a timely manner. The lobster Mac and cheese was cheesy with a generous amount of lobster. All the staff were professional and kind! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY at this RACIST and CLASSIST ESTABLISHMENT! The disappointment continued long after the incorrect meals! Christmas dinner with my husband and my mother was ruined! $700 meals for a family of 3 are no surprise. We've spent double the price for only 2 at amazing dining establishments like Carbone, Meat Market, Maple&Ash, Komodo, and even triple the price at Papi Steak and Novikov. At the bare minimum you would expect your order to be taken correctly for a steakhouse that claims to be the best in Boston. The competition is a city that standouts in seafood?! Yea, no chance in any other major city! You're better off at Smith & Wollensky. Empty restaurant and still made to wait on Christmas when we arrived 10mins early. Not a big deal but definitely set the tone for the "company first over customer first environment". My mother and I were questioned about ordering our steaks "medium" 4 times - as though our waiter was expecting the black women to surely want well done steaks. Our order for sides was encouraged to be the cheaper "flight" order of 3 mini portions while I insisted 3 full orders of lobster mac, creamed spinach, and roasted corn. What came to the table were Burnt CRISPY WELL DONE filets for my mother and I, while my white husband received his steak Medium as ordered! The sides came as a FLIGHT and included an error of lobster mac, corn, and mashed potatoes. When asked to correct just the item of creamed spinach missing and remove the potatoes, we were told "sorry, just keep the potatoes we'll bring the spinach". A FULL serving of spinach was brought out, leading to confusion as to why we were served the flight at all. After 1 cut into the filets, the fully brown dry steak was alerted to the waiter who seemed surprised and said "yes that is a well done steak". The steak was taken off of my plate as my mother refused another failed attempt at resolution. My husband ate his mediocre steak and my mother ate her side of shrimp as the kitchen took over 20 minutes to bring my new filet out at MEDIUM temperature! The manager came over to the table and gave a 2 sentence apology while I was sitting with an empty plate and offered no resolution. We ALWAYS order minimum 2 desserts because we love to taste rather than indulge but it was an absolute NO at RARE - We gave up on the service and the food quality and opted to end our Christmas night without another disappointment. We're not the type to ruffle feathers; I've ordered an A5 Wagyu and received domestic and it's fine with a decent apology and correcting the bill, but RARE took ZERO effort to OFFER a remedy to the situation, only bringing out my corrected steak after I've filled up on the sides and my mother not being able to get past 2 bites of her steak. Furthering the insult, we received a copy of the bill the next morning and it clearly stated "medium well" on the tickets, STEREOTYPING BLACK PATRONS, confirming what we uncomfortably felt that night. We were also charged for the full creamed spinach which was another of Rare's error. We've contacted the GM Adriana, the hotel food and beverage staff, and the front desk of the Encore multiple times over the past 2 days and there has yet to be ANY type of resolution just "we'll pass the message along". The service here was outstanding. The staff went out of their way to be helpful, were incredibly attentive, and all-around amazing. The food was also fantastic. The steak was cooked perfectly, the seafood risotto had a very good amount of lobster, and the wedge salads were some of the best we've had. The ambiance was very nice - great lighting, not too loud, and a had a feeling of a new take on the 70's (in a good way). The Baby Banana dessert was amazing. All of the food felt unique, fresh, and interesting. Also, they brought out a baby chair for a woman's purse and it was everything. We came here for dinner and this place definitely looks very upscale. The service was impeccable for the most part. We decided to opt for the 40oz steak plus a couple sides. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. The only downside was that the steak wasn't evenly seasoned. I had a piece at the end that was extremely salty compared to the other pieces. For the sides, we got the lobster Mac and cheese which was delicious, the mashed potatoes which was my personal favorite, asparagus and creamed spinach. The last two were just okay. The portion sizes were minuscule compared to the price though. At the end we decided to get another 40oz steak LOL since we thought the sides would be sufficient. This time, the steak was charred a bit more but it was still cooked medium rare. It just tasted a bit drier compared to the earlier steak. There definitely was no consistency in the cooking apparently. Overall it was a good steakhouse. Not sure I'll be back since it's definitely a pricey place but good for a special occasion. read more

I am not sure where my previous review disappeared to?? Anyways, this was going to be an update, but I guess it will be an original. I've been frequenting Rare Steakhouse since it opened. I've spent many a birthday dinner, special occasions, and just hanging out eating a nice steak here. Tonight I took my mom to enjoy the ambience of the best steakhouse in Boston. We both ordered the prime rib for her the queen cut, and for myself the king. She ordered hers medium well, and it came out exactly perfect. Of course I ordered mine medium rare and it was absolutely delicious. There is nothing like a huge cut of protein cooked exactly the way you dream about. In addition to the extremely well prepared protein, we both got horseradish, mashed potatoes with candied carrots, and sides. and I can't not mention the fabulous Ajou. The food is absolutely delicious. As for the service all I can say is impeccable, extremely polite, super prompt they don't miss a note. The hostesses are super attentive and right on point. The waiters spot on. The service didn't miss a beat. Everything was laid out perfectly. After our entrées and sides, we were to full to indulge in one of the fabulous desserts they have here. Every dessert that I have had in the past was delicious and usually it's a dessert that you can't get anywhere else. We did however indulge a little bit with a coffee and a double espresso for myself to cap off a fabulous meal. The atmosphere in this restaurant is top notch. I believe this is the best steakhouse in the Boston area not to mention that it is one of only 10 restaurants licensed in the United States with real Wagyu. I have had the Wagyu a few times in the past, and it just melts in your mouth. I do want to mention this time around we didn't get a seafood platter or tower but had to mention them. Was expecting 5 stars based on other reviews - unfortunately that was not quite our experience. Vidas, our waiter, was very attentive and the rest of the staff was great too. We went a little early for our reservation and they were able to accommodate us. The decor is nice and atmosphere is pleasant. Seafood tower was very good - fresh and oysters were excellent. The brioche bread they serve was fantastic. The side dishes were good - fries were a particular highlight. The majority of the table ordered the filet mignon. However, the ones that were ordered medium rare came out tough and hard to chew. The only one that was ordered medium was ironically rarer than the other ones. We've had much better steaks at a number of other steakhouses, including Capital Grille, Grill 23 and Davio's. The loup de mer was good and crispy but be aware that it does come with all the bones. At a steakhouse, I would expect the meat to be the star of the show - here, the seafood, fish and side dishes were the highlight. read more

A group of 6 of us visited on a Thursday night for dinner. I recommend making reservations because it was crowded on a Thursday night! FYI Thursday nights are prime rib nights DRINKS: I ordered a mocktail called the Robuchon (Dhos Gin Free, butterfly flower, lemon, cucumber). Delicious and tart. My other diners othered the other mocktail option and they enjoyed it very much! APPETIZER: My fellow diners and I ordered the New England Seafood Fry which consisted of one jumbo shrimp, a few scallops, handful of calamari and two slices of sweet potato. This was a heavy starter but it was a great dish to share! SIDES: The Rare French fries were surprisingly delicious! Other sides we ordered were the Mac and cheese which was very cheesy but standard, Brussel sprouts and the corn & bacon which I liked the best out of the 3! I also want to highlight how soft and fluffy the bread was - wish I had room in my stomach for me! MAIN: I ordered the 14oz prime rib and it came out beautifully on top of some potato purée and 3 carrots. It was so tender and delicious! I didn't want to stop eating! DESSERTS: We went with the cheesecake and sticky toffee banana pudding cake to share and we just weren't impressed by both desserts - definitely don't recommended. AN AMAZING PLACE... WE LOVE IT HERE When I considered where to go for my son's graduation celebration, Rare was my top choice for our party of 6. I feel that this spectacular spot hits the mark in every way... beautiful ambiance that's classy, modern and refined... fabulous, professional service... amazing chow... a professional wine program and an overall feeling that you're in a special place as soon as you step inside the front door. I've been to Rare around six times and every meal has been fantastic. I always look forward to seeing Malik upon entering the restaurant. He rules the dining room with a smile and always seems to find the perfect table for the needs of his guests. Tonight was just perfect... so thankful to the GM, Kevin Cheng, a real pro, who kept a watchful eye on our table all night and checked in with us from time to time... and Rare's amazing chef, Kyle Bradish, for making sure our dinner was special in every way. He and his kitchen staff are doing great things here. We enjoyed a bottle of Champagne while we settled in and looked over the menu. I appreciate the elegant stemware and excellent, proper wine service from their Sommelier... so rare these days. I always seem to get the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake with Spicy Remoulade... fantastic. Tonight also tried the Shrimp Cocktail... wow, amazing large shrimp and great sauces... Onion Soup, delish... Wedge Salad, Roasted Maine Lobster Bisque.... all great. We had a tasting course of the Domestic Wagyu served with a few Fries... amazing and made our dinner that much more special. Entrees included the surreal Japanese Kobe, Filet Mignon, Georges Bank Diver Scallops served with Alaskan King Crab Saffron Risotto, Bay of Fundy Salmon... all fantastic, perfectly cooked and served hot. Sides included the fabulous Potato Puree, Corn, and Creamed Spinach, all highly recommended. Cocktails, various white and red wines complemented our dishes and raised the enjoyment level. A few desserts, Caramel Apple Crumble, Chocolate Cake and the Vanilla Creme Brulee completed our fabulous dining experience. I'll start off by saying that the service was stellar! Steve was an amazing host, who was very attentive and knowledgeable about the food and wine menus. He deserves a raise. A good friend and I went to the casino to blow some money, and I wanted to treat him to a nice meal for his birthday, so I settled on Rare. It's definitely an elegant place, and I'm glad they welcomed us in our work outfits - we looked presentable, but I'll definitely dress up the next time. For starters, I tried the Roasted Maine Lobster Bisque and it was delicious. It was creamy with a spicy kick, and an acceptable amount of lobster - they could have spared a little more. For my main course, I indulged in the Seafood Linguine, and when I say, it was delicious, it was delicious! The side dishes are a la carte - so expect to spend some money- however, they do come in proportions that are shareable. We shared the fingerling potatoes and roasted summer corn, and enjoyed them both. I left there completely satisfied with my whole experience. I just hope that it's a consistent one, as I do plan on returning...once I pay off the last meal. read more

My husband and I have had dinner here several times for special occasions but this special occasion ended up being a big disappointment. The food was good, my husband had the Wagyu tasting and he enjoyed it (didn't rave over it but said it was good) and I had the tagliatelle with mushrooms--also good but not exceptional. The service was OK (except when I commented that my second drink was not nearly the same as the first one I had ordered and the waiter said "well it depends on the bartender." That comment --at a supposedly exquisite restaurant was totally out of place. Not even "May I suggest something different?" or "I'm sorry to hear that"--even when I said the second was a bit sour or seemed to be missing something. The main disappointment to the meal was the table next to us, which was a table of "influencers" - meaning we put up with large flashes and photo taking for the last half of our dinner. Not just a few, but a dozen or so (flash going on then off, then on then off, then on then off.....depending on the photo). My husband spoke to them to tell them it was a bit annoying and they told us that the restaurant paid them to have dinner there and take pictures of it. They did agree it would have been better for them to be in a private room or a more secluded spot. (DUH???) We did speak to the manager, the sommelier (who we had asked for a recommendation earlier) and the waiter...who all apologized profusely but by then our very expensive "special dinner" was already ruined. Someone came over with a complementary dessert (to make amends for ruing our dinner??) and I basically looked at him and said "We're done--we are just waiting to leave so you can take it back to the kitchen") No need to return again since in this age of influencers it's likely to happen again--so beware if you are brave enough to try it out (and not just due to the price....) Oh--and ignore the dress code on the website. There were folks in shorts, jeans and t-shirts.......I guess it was not a special evening for them. read more
