After seeing Belle Isle featured on Phantom Gourmet more times than I can count, we finally decided to give it a try. We were craving waterfront dining and fried scallops--a combination that's usually hard to mess up. The inside has a tired, seen-better-days feel, so we opted for one of the picnic tables outside. Unfortunately, the outdoor seating area looked like it had been abandoned to fend for itself. A broken picnic table frame, weeds, and an unmistakable "good enough" attitude didn't exactly scream "welcome." The saving grace was the view. Looking out toward Boston was lovely, and watching planes take off and land at Logan was entertaining. That said, if plane spotting is your thing, Castle Island or M Street Beach are much better places to park yourself. Our server was pleasant, but the food never really took off. The clam chowder was basically potato soup with a cameo appearance by one or two clams, and it was much milkier than I prefer. My fried scallops were decent, but hardly memorable. My husband ordered the lobster roll with knuckle, claw, and tail meat (there's also a tail-only option), and his review was a shoulder shrug followed by, "It's okay." At these prices, "it's okay" is not exactly a ringing endorsement. To top it all off, they only accept cash or Venmo. In 2026, that's a choice... and one that raises an eyebrow. Between the lackluster food, neglected atmosphere, and cash-only policy, this place was more miss than hit. We won't be back. read more

We received several recommendations from locals to try this place. I had also checked the online reviews, which weren't very promising, but after hearing so many positive comments, we decided to give it a chance. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. It's hard to believe a lobster roll could be so underwhelming. The fried calamari lacked flavor and had an excessive amount of batter--far more batter than calamari. My husband ordered the grilled chicken breast sandwich, and it was literally just grilled chicken on a bun. When he asked about it, the waitress explained that lettuce, tomato, mustard, ketchup, and other toppings had to be ordered separately. I wish she had mentioned that when we placed our order. The restaurant was very busy, although I'm not sure why. The tables, especially in the outdoor seating area, were dirty, and the patio could really benefit from better maintenance and presentation. Despite this, the food is worth the wait. The staff is consistently friendly, but the service could be improved. One thing I wish they would do is double the amount of coleslaw and tartar sauce they gave you as it's just as small as I remember (although you can request for more tartar sauce). Also, some of the items in the combo appear to be refried. This included the fish, scallops, and clams. These three were dried out. The shrimp was fine and calamari was fresh. I was disappointed after seeing some of the YouTube reviews. If you live nearby, it could be worth your trip but not for me. Some other people's food looked better, thus it felt like we received recycled food. Or they had to refry it since we didn't get our food timely. Whatever the reason--disappointing. My boyfriend is Swedish and is a major seafood snob and fell in love with this place when I brought him. I am a Boston native and it's definitely up there! The food is indeed delicious and everything is seasoned beautifully and breaded perfectly. The only reason I do not give it 5 stars is because most of the food is fried and there aren't any options for raw oysters, baked scallops or other preparation methods that aren't breaded and fried. I had the lobster bake but it was still just breaded pieces of lobster drenched in butter. The location is lovely and overlooks the harbor with Boston proper in the distance. read more

Whenever I have guests visiting from out of town, Belle Isle Seafood is my go-to spot for the best lobster in the area. There's nothing better than sitting outside by the marina on a warm day, soaking in the waterfront views. If you're looking for a perfect sunset dinner with drinks and great company, this is the place to be. The staff here is fantastic--quick, friendly, and always happy to help. I've brought friends who had never tried this kind of seafood before, and the waiters were amazing at guiding them through the menu and helping them find the perfect dish. My dad, who worked in the seafood industry for years, has had his fair share of clam chowder and lobster, and even he swears this is the best he's ever had! We've tried almost everything--the clam chowder, warm and cold lobster rolls, calamari, chicken plate, rice pilaf, and coleslaw--and it's all delicious. Pro tip: skip the fries and go for the rice pilaf or coleslaw instead. They're that good. I love the coleslaw so much that I sometimes stop by just to grab a tub to keep in my fridge! The lobster rolls are huge and so fresh and yummy. It's also huge! I shared with my boyfriend and we also split the clam chowder. The bread on the roll was a bit burnt but other than that it would've been perfect. The clam chowder was thick and had a bunch of clams in it but I thought it could use a little bit more salt. I recently moved here a few months ago and have been told by all of my coworkers how AMAZING the seafood is here. I'm home and decided to finally try it. I ordered the fresh swordfish as it's one of my favourite seafood dishes. Had it delivered, it did come quickly. But OMG the smell was horrendous, I could smell it before I picked up the bag, delivery driver was still walking back to their car, so it's not like it was sitting. This fish smelled liked bazillion day old canned tuna even before I picked up the bag!!! This not only smells horrible, but if it is swordfish it's the thinnest ever. Most of the swordfish I order is at least 1-1.5 inches thick. I measured this one and it's not even 0.5 inches thick. I ordered grilled, it came with a very light breading on it. I did try a few bites, and it tasted as fishy as it smells. I also did measure the thickness of the fish filet, which came out to 1cm even, which if my math is correct is equivalent to 0.39 inches. This restaurant gets an F in quality, flavour and freshness. They do get an A for fast delivery, but that may be more Uber One than the restaurant. read more

I was in need of fried scallops. In January , many New England seafood spots close for winter season, so Belle Isle was my choice as open year round. I enjoyed their lobster rolls in the summer months. Ordered the scallop plate, a cup chowder, a draft ipa. Nice mellow views of the harbor on a frigid cold lunch time day. Scallop plate I thought needed more scallops, but I always want more. Scallops were fresh and did the job for me. Onion rings excellent, fries good but too many ... few less, and few more onion rings . The cole slaw I needed more as this was exactly the type slaw I like... Moist, creamy , cold, and sweet moist... perfect slaw. The ipa was 16 oz draft and cold as and delivered. The cup clam chowder was full of ingredients, potatoes... nice hot, creamy ... 6.99 for cup was 1-2 bucks steep for size... 4.99 would be fair . All in all ... fresh and cooked fresh and hot A great meal 4-5 stars... 5 if here was a couple more scallops for the 28.99 or 4.99 or 5.99 for the cup chowder vs 6.99... We were up from out of state and drove over from Woburn for this restaurant- only to find that the restaurant had just closed hours early due to a sudden rainstorm (as people eating outside quickly ran in). Why not just close for a bit? And are sudden rainstorms in Boston unusual ("don't like the weather, wait 2 minutes ")? Doesn't seem to be a good way to endear customer loyalty. read more

My only food requirement while visiting Massachusetts was to have one of their delicious lobster rolls. After some research we landed on Belle Isle Seafood since we were staying in the area. Nestled right on the water, Belle Isle Seafood is perfect for dining outside where you can spot all of the planes coming to and fro from the nearby airport. Or you can opt for inside dining as we did since it was kinda chilly outside during our visit. Our waitress was really helpful with assisting us on our dinner options and gave us the perfect information given the portion of the food. We settled on the shrimp platter and a lobster roll with an additional plain roll since we were informed there was a ton of meat in the lobster roll. The lobster roll was HUGE and just what we were looking for. However, we found all the food to be lacking in seasoning. We weren't sure if it was because we live in MD and tend to like our seafood sprinkled in Old Bay, but we felt even the french fries and onion rings would've been better with some added salt once out of the fryer. Same goes for the clam chowder, it was good but needed some additional seasoning. I know they're all about letting the flavor of the seafood shine, but we felt even the lobster meat was kinda lacking in flavor and after a while it just had a chew to it. For the first time in my life I was disappointed with the food at Belle Isle. Okay first the good. They make make the best onion rings and fries . Now the bad. When you walk past the fish chest they have beautiful seafood in the case. The swordfish fillets are about an inch thick. on that visual I suggested to my girlfriend to order the grilled swordfish. I ordered my favorite,the calamari plate.The food came out in a reasonable time, our waiter was J.D. My calamari was over fried but not horrible but my girlfriend's fish was a quarter of an inch thick and way over grilled. She had to rub lemon on the char to get the burnt taste off of it. The fillet was so thin that it was also dried out. If we had the time I would have had it returned to the kitchen. I told the waiter and he said that he would tell the cooks. Big deal! What good did that do me. I paid the bill and looked to talk to the manager. I was told that all complaints go through my waiter. Really? So back to J.D. . His excuse was that it gets hectic in the kitchen sometimes. I said if the kitchen can't handle a less than half filled dining room on. Tuesday afternoon what happens on the weekend days. When it arrived, it was a plate heaped with mostly fried claws, 4 shrimp, several pieces of haddock and some scallops. We were given two tiny, plastic plates and some very small portions of cocktail sauce & tartar sauce. Cole slaw portion was not much bigger than condiments. Opted for onion rings as I had heard they were good. They were not. Very small, hardly any onion, overcooked and absolutely flavorkess. The breading on all fried food was also devoid of flavor. The beautiful water and city views make the wait go by quickly! We started with some drinks and their prices are very reasonable for cocktails, beer, and wine. We ordered the fried scallops dinner and the crab cake dinner. The fishermans platters and lobster rolls that kept coming out looked so delicious while we waited. The wait for our food was quite long but it was so worth it. My friend scallops were big, crispy, and percect, and my fiance loved his crab cakes. I had so many scallops that I shared several during dinner AND took a few home too. The prices might seem high at first glance, but for fresh seafood and big portions you cannot go wrong. I was in last weekend craving some fried whole belly clams. Stopped in to grab a plate, maybe have a couple beers, and bring some dinner home for the wife. Unfortunately this is a cash only joint (yes, to confirm, it is 2025). I didn't have enough money on me for all that, so I just tried the whole belly clam roll and only drank water. So instead of them selling me a more expensive dinner, a couple of beers, and another dinner to go for my wife by simply paying a nominal transactional credit card fee, they lost somewhere between another $40-$50 worth of my business. Took my mom for Mother's Day. The seafood was excellent. It was the freshest scallops I've had in a long time. My mom couldn't stop raving about how fresh the combo platter was. I was very excited to visit Belle Isle Seafood. It's located in Belle Isle Inlet, with a beautiful view of both Boston and the local marina. My excitement was tempered by the mixed reviews the place has received, a combination of ones and five's averaging out to just above a three. And of course, being on Anthony Bourdaine's Boston list didn't hurt either, although he offers a poignant disclaimer that I won't repeat, that his picks aren't necessarily the best of Boston. Well he was right about that. The restaurant is large and does provide an inviting dining experience. I found the service to be very friendly and offered great suggestions to those of us who were having trouble navigating the menu. The food, unfortunately, was just OK. Like the broad range of reviews, I would say the onion rings were a one, fries a two, haddock a three and clams a four. Sadly, there are countless spots throughout Boston that would score much higher so if you're going for these items, think again. Despite this, I do plan to return someday for the lobster rolls, which look spectacular, but I definitely won't be ordering a side of onion rings. read more

During my last trip to MA I tried out Belle Isle and had such a good meal I had to come back this second trip with company. We ordered a cup of clam chowder, a lobster roll with onion rings as well as a side order of fresh fried haddock. The cup of chowder tasted nice but it was a bit thin and just above room temperature upon receiving, not ideal. As for the lobster roll, this thing was packed with fresh lobster salad and lettuce in a chargrilled split-top roll. I found the chargrilled roll interesting as I'm used to the traditional buttered version, a welcome change though. The lobster itself was plentiful, fresh and slightly sweet, I think it could have been a bit saucier though. The onion rings were crispy and thin, but unfortunately quite bland. If they could season up their batter these would be incredible. Same story for the haddock, while the delicate white fish on the inside was juicy and fresh tasting, overall there was very little flavor. Both of these were remedied with some table salt and sauces, but I really think they should consider seasoning some of their food. We were seated by the water which made for a memorable meal and though we didn't see our waitress very often, she seemingly was always there right when we needed her. All in all, I did enjoy this meal and would come back again should I fancy visiting MA a third time. read more
