Meatballs tasted like meatloaf, the cheesy grits were the best part of the meal. My girlfriend ordered the "Corn" salad. It had maybe 12 kernels of corn on it. It was covered with breaded fried onions, which were the only things on it that had any flavor, and it wasn't good. The balsamic was way overly tangy, almost rancid. The lettuce was soft and tasteless, the shallots soggy. False nomenclature aside, I can't believe a restaurant would be okay with such an offering on their menu. read more

We went to range prior to seeing a show at the DCPA. We've done this frequently because of the convenience to the theater district and the quality of the food and service. When we went recently (on June 9) they had a slightly different menu. At first glance, it looked to be similar to what they had in the past, but one of the members of our group is on a low-carb diet. You would think that wouldn't be such a thing to accommodate, but there wasn't a single entree that didn't include some kind of starch. When she asked to get the steak frites with some broccoli instead of fries, our server said they weren't allowed to do any substitutions because TOO MANY PEOPLE were asking for broccoli instead of fries. Here's a tip for the chef---if a lot of people are asking for the same substitution, maybe the menu needs to be tweaked. We ended up getting her a side of broccoli, but the server said he still had to bring the fries. That's asinine, in my opinion. So, to the chef at range, take a look at your menu through the lens of a variety of dietary needs and don't be so unaccommodating. It's a huge negative when you're planning a meal out for a group of people. read more

Bad first impression: waitress gave me a hard time about giving me a window table, even though there was almost nobody in the place. The restaurant looked a little seedy, the floors weren't clean. After a long wait, same waitress came back, plunked a menu indifferently in front of me and walked away. It was a lunch menu (and an undistinguished one at that), even though the website touted their brunch, which was the reason I'd come. Another long wait, same waitress, no branch being served. We were seated promptly and our waiter seemed perfectly polite and competent, but over an hour after ordering our food had not arrived and I had to leave to make it to a meeting. I ordered a prime rib sandwich. I am at a complete loss for words as to how it could possibly take over an hour to prepare a prime rib sandwich. He (Tristin) said that they were over booked, however the entire time 1.5 hrs we were there the tables were empty. Came in for happy hour on a Friday, bar area was moderately busy. I sat alone for a while because I was waiting for a late friend. After 15 minutes of being ignored, I had to go to ask the bartender for a happy hour menu. I got a drink from a server after another ~10 minutes. After I finished my drink, I sat alone for another 15 minute in the middle of the community seating table, while the two servers chatted up all the other groups in the restaurant. I guess if you sit alone they treat you like a degenerate? Anyways, the food is great. The servers can be either unfriendly or clueless if you're sitting alone. read more

My husband and I chose this spot for lunch on the first day of our vacation. It was conveniently attached to our hotel but a lot better than most hotel restaurants! I would recommend the biscuits for a starter, so good! My southwest salad with chicken was just okay but the portion size was huge. My husband got the green chile burger with the chili. What a lovely spot. The lobby is gorgeous, the wait staff was very friendly and accommodating since we were running 10 min late. We gave a curtesy call and they gladly continued to hold our lunch reservation. The burrata toast was delicious! Loved the sweet grilled pear with fluffy arugula pesto sauce. So, after reading all the reviews, I decided to take a gamble on the 1,000 point Open Table reservation and head to Range. Well, let's suffice it to say that the reviews were right. Long story short, food was good (not great, but good) but the service was lacking. First off, I was pleasantly surprised that they had a kids menu, and stickers and activity pad to boot but that (and the smoked trout dip - which was awesome) was about it. While our server was very nice, he just didn't have it down . . . at all. He dropped plates at the end of the table for our group leaving us to pass them out on our own, he took the wine list after I asked him to leave it, when desert time came he left two menus (again leaving us to pass them around), and finally, after putting a salad on the bill that was included with our daughter's meal, it took him 10 minutes or more to figure out how to remove it. Sadly two in our party ordered coffee at the end of the meal and it was not only bad, but it was luke warm (even after a requested HOT HOT HOT top off). My pork was very flavorful, but cooked well past the "medium" that they offered it at (I even requested it slightly less cooked and it was fairly dry). The pecan pie bread pudding was good, but it simply didn't make up for the rest of the meal. After careful thought we will not be returning to Range. Simply put I think they are a hotel restaurant who is banking on clientele regardless of service. They could have a great spot here, but without some attention to detail they will be out of business before too long. Sorry guys, I really wanted to like it! read more

So delicious! My boyfriend and I got the Denver Dining Out Passbook and it has great coupons for you to try out new places. So we chose range out of a few other options, and I'm so happy we did! It was so delicious. For a drink I got the Pop Rocks Cosmo, and it had a good bite to it. For appetizers we got the Goat Cheese fritters with like a honey lemon dipping sauce SO GOOD! For our main courses, my boyfriend got Filet Mignon and I got the Bison Ribs which fell off the bone! So amazing. Instead of their original sides, I got the sweet mashed potatoes and vegetable farro with the ribs and it was such a good decision. Highly recommend! read more

Truthfully I don't have a whole lot to say about range's food quality as I had a large green salad. It was fine. The atmosphere is nice, maybe just a little dark in there. But really I wanted to leave a review for our server, Lindsey (the chick with the short blonde hair and glasses, just in case there's more than one). Dear Lindsey, We saw you last Thursday evening and I just wanted to tell you that you rock. I should have said it before we left. I have a food allergy and generally speaking it kinda sucks to go out to eat because a lot of servers just don't care that much. I'm a server too and admittedly before I discovered my own food allergy I certainly took it seriously, but never really went above and beyond to help people out. Not Lindsey! She walked me through the menu to see what could be made without the ingredient, checked with the kitchen to be sure of her answers and wasn't even slightly annoyed at having me, an over-tired and kinda high-maintenance customer (or if you were, you did a great job of keeping your server-face on. Score). Thank you for your attentive service and your positive attitude. You sounded a little under the weather (you poor thing- maybe the tail-end of a cold) and I know it's not easy to be all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed if you don't feel good. Great food! Came with coworkers for dinner. Had Gnocchi with bacon and Brussels sprouts. IT was really yummy, but a bit salty for my taste. Probably because of the bacon. 2 of the guys I was with got the Pork Collar. One of them said it was the best dish he had had in a loooong time. I was very jealous because I came very close to getting it. I also got some type of arugula salad which was really satisfying. Then we did something I never would have done. We split 3 Desserts - Carrot Cake cheese cake, espresso chocolate cake, bread pudding. I would say they were all standard. I definitely did my share of gobbling it up. The atmosphere was classy, but also relaxed. Definitely people leaving their offices to kick back with coworkers. I will 100% return, hopefully with a coworker with a company card. read more

I'll admit I wasn't that excited to eat at a restaurant inside of a hotel but my friend made reservations for NYE so I just went with it, and range blew it out of the water. This restaurant was soooooo good. I had the hanger steak with jalapeño chimichurri and it was the best steak that I have ever had. I got the Brussels sprouts side dish and that was just as amazing super tangy and topped with apples and crumbs of some sort! My friends got the meatloaf and pork chops and they said theirs were good as well. I tried the Mac and cheese gnocchi and that was mighty tasty as well. The Rocky Mountain float drink was good (tasted like a root beer float) but the black and blue drink was super strong. Side note: this is a hotel restaurant so the bathrooms are a little ways away.. they are in the lower lobby of the hotel. A little far for this person on crutches. read more

My husband and I went to Range for Easter dinner with my in-laws while they were in town visiting. It's located inside the Renaissance Hotel lobby, which is a really beautiful itself. The restaurant was dark and cozy, looked upscale and nice! It was a pretty quiet Sunday night, so the service was good. No complaints there! My mother-in-law and I both ordered The Elder cocktail and WOW, it was incredibly strong and therefore difficult to drink. We both had to baby-sip it for our whole meal, when usually we would have ordered a glass of wine with dinner. I ordered the Bucatini Pasta Carbonara and it was very bland. I had a couple bites and it just was thick noodle, no flavor in the sauce. I even made my husband try the dish and he could barely swallow it and suggested I try something else. Neither of us was happy with it. Unfortunately, I had to send it back and I very rarely do that. But it all worked out because my husband had ordered the Smoked Bison Ribs and there was enough for me to share. They actually were very good, we both enjoyed them! My in-laws were both very happy with their meals as well. Maybe the pasta was just a poor order on my part, or it just needed a little more seasoning. (Either way, I had to mark off a star for having to send a dish back!) For dessert, we split the Pecan Pie Bread Pudding, which was SO good. I was pretty full from my meal (plus maybe a before dinner snack at home...), but I could not get enough of that bread pudding with the bourbon ice cream on top. Mmmm too good. I would come back for that dessert alone, but I do want to try more of the menu and possibly try their brunch too! read more

Sadly, it did not even come close to meeting our expectations and were not even picky people! We ordered the mushroom appetizer and had to send it back! The mushrooms were not cooked threw and were stuffed with a bland mixture of cheeses! The dish was honestly inedible. We were still hopeful however and ordered the steak and the sea bass for dinner. I've never had a steak that tasted soooo...off. It didn't have the juiciness or flavor a steak should have and was served onto of a cold potato purée. The sea bass was also bland. The broth it was in did not add anything to the dish and it was served along side a heaping mound of crab, I was expecting a dish with finesse and delicacy but was served mounds of seafood next to eachother in a tasteless broth. Very disappointed and would not come back. 3 stars however for ambiance and timeliness; but even the tables were too long to have a proper conversation! read more

I visited today for lunch with a group. I'd go back expecting another good meal with good service. We were seated quickly and the service was quick and friendly throughout the meal. Soup of the day, sweet corn with green chilies was the highlight . my friends said the burgers were good. Bacon jelly was the highlight of the burgers. Flatbread was the lowlight. Me and my father flew into denver for the weekend. Our Hotel was down the street and we decided to try this restaurant based upon its reviews. We entered the restaurant from the outside street and not through the lobby. It was kind of slow(to my surprise) and our server had a little more time to spend some time with us an enlighten us on their menu. The food was unreal. So inspiring and so tasty. I loved how the menu infused a lot of sweet and spicy with a nice balance of both. Nothing was too overpowering. We were only in denver for a few days however, we ate here three times. Twice in one day actually. If you are staying near by it is worth it to go in for breakfast. I have told multiple people about this restaurant even though we are from Toronto. read more

Really wanted to like range, but was underwhelmed from start to finish. At $42+ each for the filet I had and the bison strip streak my husband had, each of which came with one side, we expected high-quality cuts full of flavor. Although our steaks were both cooked perfectly to requested temperature, they were both bland and had a fair amount of gristle and tendon to get around. We understand that bison will have more of that than beef, but we know our way around a bison steak and this was excessive. Much closer to $$$ quality, but at a $$$$ price. Service was good, but not exceptional. Ambience is moderate, but not exceptional. We wished the choice of sides had been a bit more plentiful and certainly wished they had packed some "wow". The sides were good, but at this price point, you need to KILL IT in order to compete in this tough Denver restaurant market. It appears that range is often a 1,000-point table reservation on OpenTable for a reason - it needs to draw patrons who would normally dine elsewhere. Where do I start? This was my first time trying this restaurant and I'm still raving about it. I purchased the Denver passbook and Range was listed. We tried the hush puppies as an appetizer and a few cocktails. The hush puppies had a mango salsa which was a perfect mix of spicy and sweet and was a great mix with the hush puppy and fresh cilantro. I was surprised something so simple could taste so good. The cocktails did not disappoint either. For dinner I had the hanger steak. It was cooked perfectly- medium rare and the flavor was unbeatable. The portion size is what surprised me most. Usually I'm scraping the plate wishing there were more for my expensively priced plate. Not here! I was full before I finished but the sauces and mushrooms were too good to leave. My boyfriend had the range mixed meats plate with bison flat iron, bacon and jalapeño wrapped quail and lamb. It was plenty of food but each meat had a different dipping sauce paired. The meat was perfectly cooked but the individual sauces are what took it over the top. As if that weren't enough food, it came with a side and he chose the apple Brussels sprouts. They were amazing on their own. Service was great! We weren't waiting long for our food. We were able to get a reservation same day! The atmosphere was nice low lighting and comfortable seating. I have nothing bad to say about this location. I would highly recommend and I will definitely be back. read more

Well, we even asked our server before ordering about the size of the entrees which she assured us were generous. Over $10 per scallop for my scallop entree?! I'm used to paying over $30 for a scallop dinner, but i generally receive 5-6 scallops. There were three scallops on my plate barely covering a very thin layer of polenta and spinach in the middle of the plate only. The entree supposedly came with grilled corn as well and i literally counted about 12 kernels of corn on top of the scallops. Just a ridiculous ensemble. i also ordered the $13 margarita, which was probably 6 ounces of super tart syrup and only a quarter rim of salt. Also, the service was very slow. Won't be coming here for dinner again. read more

I DON'T GET IT. Our meal and service were subpar and looking through everyone else's glowing reviews just baffles me. Could we really have been so unlucky? 4 entrees and 2 appetizers, and we had 1 good app and 1 decent meal. Appetizers: loaded potatoes and the bacon/pimento fritters. The fritters were awesome. They were really tasty and the ranch that came with it was great. Good flavor, nice consistency. The potatoes would have been ok, but the actual potatoes were under cooked and a bit mealy. Entrees: -Hanger steak - our friend ordered this medium rare and there was not a single trace of pink. His potatoes also looked raw. Must be a theme here that night. -Grilled portabella mushroom - a new fan of grits, I think the person who ordered this was hoping for something tastier. I kid you not, it looked like she took 2 bites and moved it around. -Classic cheeseburger - what could go wrong? Holy eff, that was the driest meat I've ever had on a burger. The bun was also overly toasted making the texture even more difficult combined with the dry meat. I ate approximately a quarter of it. The cheeseburger also comes with your choice of side salad or fries. Look, I'll be honest. I wanted fries, of course, I always want fries, but in the effort of being a little healthier sometimes, I asked about the side salad. The server shrugged and said "it's a regular salad" Silly me for expecting a 'regular' salad. What I got was shredded lettuce and another green. Kale perhaps? Something a bit more bitter. Sliced radishes, feta, and some weird orange cubed veggie. Was it butternut squash?! I wasn't sure. This is not what I would consider a "regular" salad, by any means. -Pepperoni and jalapeno pizza - the only acceptable dinner dish we got, lucky for my husband. He was actually brought a sausage pizza initially, but once informed it was the wrong dish, the pepperoni appeared rather quickly Our server went through the motions. No one asked if there was something wrong with the food, which may have been evident by there being so much of it left over. I don't believe anyone asked if we wanted a box either. We should have nixed dinner orders and went with 4 more of the fried pimento cheese fritters. read more
