While not the best ramen I've ever had, this place does satisfy when you have a craving for ramen, especially on a cold day. Ramen just tastes better for some reason, when the weather is cold outside. Fried rice is pretty good too & they give a LOT. Gyoza (4 pcs) is free when you order a regular sized ramen. If you have a small appetite, or just want to snack on something, the kids menu might suit you. This place is still fairly new, so even the decor in the restaurant is nicer than a lot of other ramen places I've been to. It's not a big place, but service is quick, so there's never a long line. read more

The Pearlridge Ramen-Ya was decent, but the Hawaii Kai version just left a bad taste in my mouth (literally). I think MSG is one of the main ingredients in their broth. The toppings were good, but Holy bean sprouts Batman! I ordered the Gomoku Ramen, and there were so many bean sprouts on top that I thought they forgot to add the noodles!!! I guess it's fine if you like bean sprouts, but I'm not that fond of them. A little for crunch, but they don't add any flavor that I can tell. The broth tasted a little too strong of seaweed, and there was a bad aftertaste. I usually slurp up the broth when I eat ramen, but I found myself just trying to eat around the bean sprouts and broth. When I finished, it looked like I hardly touched it. read more

If you are extremely hungry....the food here is huge portion!! Combination deal is way too much for 1person ..

I came here with several relatives and we ordered mapo tofu ramen, chicken katsu ramen, a curry ramen, and gyoza on the side. Everything was super ono - especially the mapo tofu ramen - whoever thought to put those two together is a genius. The prices are really reasonable, the atmosphere is nice, and the service is quick. This is definitely one of the best places in Hawaii Kai where you can get great ramen/Japanese/Asian food and go with either friends/family. A welcome new addition to the Hawaii Kai shopping center! read more

Cheap ramen shop but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes you just have a big appetite and can't decide what to eat. Well, Ramen-Ya is a good solution. I always get the ramen combo with the mochiko chicken and gyoza. Can't be beat and it's only around $10. The food feels and tastes a little more like Chinese rather than Japanese but no complaints here. My main suggestion is to have the appropriate expectations. DO NOT expect the same quality you would expect from Menya Musashi, Agu, or even Goma Tei. It's not that type of ramen shop. Think more Ezogiku or Sumo but slightly better than both IMO. If for no other reason, the portions are bigger and the prices and slightly cheaper. Service is hit and miss but whatever, context right? The girls and I already know what we want so we just put in our order right away and the food comes out pretty quickly. Bottom line, this is more quantity over quality here. read more

I live really close by and have never eaten here because I really like ramen and curry and wasn't sure this place would cut it for me. But I finally decided to try it one night cause there's not a ton of options in the area and I was craving Japanese style curry. I read some reviews and people raved about big chunks of beef in the beef curry and how can you go wrong with Japanese curry right? So that's what I ordered and was really excited about it, and my husband got a mochiko chicken plate. I really wanted to like this place since it's in the neighborhood, but I was sadly disappointed. I'm just going to say that the beef was tough, the sauce was okay, I had a few carrots and a huge pile of rice, a lot of rice!! The mochiko chicken was bland and no sauce served with it, and the Mac salad was also bland. But lots of rice! I may try to give it a second chance, maybe order ramen and gyoza next time though. read more

Have been here twice on our way to shopping at Costco. The restaurant is very clean, kid friendly, quick service, and big portions. I've tried the Mabo-Ramen and Combo-A (with the mini ramen, fried rice and gyoza). The food is not overly salty or greasy and flavored just right for me. The gyoza is handmade and tasty with lots of cabbage too. Overall a good place to eat ramen! read more

Had ramen during "happy hour". Gyoza was free with ramen. Ramen broth was not tasty enough. Tried two flavors, both didn't have enough taste. It might be good for people that like very light broth. The shio ramen didn't has a correct shio taste. Taste like very very light miso and probably shoyu mixture. Gyoza was ok, the size looks bigger compared with other similar ramen places. Portions ok, price ok, place was clean. read more

This restaurant is nice and clean. The portions are big but the food is just ok. Miso broth is bland, and fried rice has no taste either. They do have a decent fried chicken for the kids meal. It is a very convenience location with plenty parking by Costco. read more

It's okay. Can't compare to what I have eaten in California, specifically in the San Jose area. But if you want a bowl of ramen that's the best around in the Hawaii Kai area, I would go here. read more

My favorite place on the whole island to buy chicken katsu curry on rice. Under $9, 4 free gyoza during happy hour (2-5), good quality, and never been able to finish it as hard as I've tried. Must go! read more

This was not good. The noodles were way over cooked, should have stayed home and made my own. I will never come back, the span katsu was also nothing to shout home about. Waste of time and money. read more

Mochiko chicken is delicious. There isn't much else to choose from on the east side of town. Moderately priced. Service is fast!

Disappointing flavoring. Taste chinese, that's not ramen!. Broth is meh. Same with the Kapolei location.

It's hard for me to give this place a rating of higher than a three. This is my first ramen place and could not compare it to anything else (other than at home with Top Ramen). Huge portions, enough for two meals. For a price of $10, this place was awesome. I came in during happy hour and got extra gyoza, 10 total. Fried rice was spectacular and generous portion as a side dish. The fried rice was not dry and very flavorful. Gyoza could have been cooked a bit longer. The outside was hot to the lips but the inside felt like room temperature. read more

I love ramen but I didn't love their ramen. :( Went in for lunch around 11 and we were promptly seated (yay!). Ordering was prompt and food came out in a decent amount of time. Place started filling up at 11:30 and that was the last time we talked to our waitress until she brought us the bill (booo!). Not a huge deal but a hot water refill would have been really nice considering how much MSG and salt was in their ramen broth. My daughter and I got soooo terribly thirsty from the broth. I got the Gomoku ramen and the noodles were overcooked and limp. Lots of bean sprouts. My bowl reminded me of bad, uncaring saimin. I couldn't even finish my ramen 'cause it was so lackluster. The pork on top was decent though. The shrimp tempura was also mediocre (very sad). Breading was OK; nothing to write home about. Gyoza was a decent size but not very flavorful and totally fell apart, bean sprouts and all, shortly after I took a bite. I could tell there was no love, no pride in that broth or the ramen. I couldn't even give it 2 stars 'cause it totally wasn't worth $11. Maybe $6. Sadly, it seems these people are just in it for the money. I'd rather just have a Costco hot dog on the other end of the lot than come back here. read more

The best ramen in Hawaii. The quantity is huge and everything taste excellent. I like here. I don't know why it just has three star!!! Highly recommend! read more

I love this place! Their mochiko chicken is delicious and the portion size is enough for two! I also enjoy the kimchee fried rice and cold noodle salad. The staff is also very nice and quick. If your looking for a good plate of food or warm ramen soup, hit up Ramen ya in hawaii kai! read more

Generous portions. Service was good, water was refilled promptly, food came out fast and hot. Didn't experience problem with the bill or service. Our go to place for ramen. read more

For the standard $8-12 meals this place has great portions! Couldn't finish my Ramen and the fried rice felt like a family style serving. Also scored on the free gyoza during happy hour. Tan tan was okay. Restaurant was half full and service kept my glass full. read more

Ate here yesterday (12-17-11), it was awesome! Yay, Hawaii Kai finally has a good Ramen shop, unlike Tokyo Noodles by Longs Drugs! We got free gyoza and I have to say that it tasted pretty fresh(not frozen), I liked the ginger pieces in it. I ordered the shoyu ramen and my husband orderd the big noodle bowl. The broth on both were great and the noodles were not mushy. The katsu and the pork were awesome-very tasty. The ambiance is nice and clean and the portions are just right. The service is speedy and friendly. We will definitely eat here regularly. read more

I would not have gone in to Ramen-Ya except that I was starving and was on my way to go grocery shopping. I figured the cost of lunch would probably save me about $100 in the long run. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Seafood Udon for $8.50 was prettly well stocked with fresh fish, respectable sized shrimp, and calamari that was quite tender, and not at all rubbery! The broth was pretty tasteless, but not unpleasant. I recommend some shoyu or chili oil to fill it out. While there was lots of cabbage in the broth, it was not over cooked, but was tender with a natural sweetness. The friendly staff were very attentive without being pesky. I'll go back. read more

Ramen is good. Prices are right. Good service. They gave me a "FREE GYOZA" coupon for the next visit. Convenient location with lots of parking. Will definitely go back! Thanks Ramen Ya! \m/ read more

If u like chinese made ramen. This would be a good choice. The ambience in here is nice and u can watch the chefs. The big bowl soup is only $9.50 and can feed 3 people... they put a lot of vegetables in the ramen. By default they put in bean sprouts for u people that dislike bean sprouts. read more

It's not as good as I remembered it from a few years back. The pork was overcooked and the broth seemed old like it had been warming all day. My companion's noodles were flabby and the shrimp portion was skimpy although the volumes of starch were overwhelming. The curry rice was okay but not even close to what you would get in Japan. read more

I went on the grand opening day and pleasantly surprised! Yes, it is a Chinese operated Japanese ramen shop, but that doesn't mean bad quality by any means. Prices were absolutely reasonable and if you're hungry and looking for big portions, this is the place. In fact, I'd be happy to order something to split with a friend because the portions are so enormous! The ambiance was great. Modern, clean, new furniture. Crowded, but we were seated immediately, and not crazy loud like some other places on the island. The service was great and the wait staff were very attentive. I did not feel rushed to leave after paying the bill. Loved the seafood crispy noodle and big ramen dish. The gyoza was tasty, though I've had better elsewhere and frankly I prefer Korean mandu to gyoza any day. read more

We went today for lunch and ordered the following: Curry Katsu rice plate, Chicken Fried Rice, Ramen Bowl, and Chicken Fried Noodle: 1) Curry katsu rice plate: For me, this was the best dish out of the four we ordered. The chicken katsu was nice and crispy and generous. The curry was more on the super mild/almost bland side though. Portion was large. 2) Chicken Fried Rice: Good fried rice but not enough meat. Lots of rice so the portion is quite large. Would have been better if there were more green onions in it. 3) Ramen Bowl: Large physical bowl and lots of soup but not enough ramen. Ramen wasn't anything special. My aunt didn't like it and said it was too bland. I was fine with it but there wasn't enough noodles. 4) Chicken Fried Noodle: A "weak" tasting Yakisoba. Large portion size though. Overall, the food was so-so. The portion size for the fried noodles, fried rice, and curry plate was very generous so that is good. The ramen was kind of skimpy on the noodles. The service wasn't that great since we had to flag down the waiter/waitress to get more water, plates, and utensils. We didn't have to flag them down for the check though. They were busy so I assume that is why. 3 stars for large portions at reasonable prices and clean/nice dining. read more

Large portions of food. Very tasty. Can be a bit messy, don't wear light colored shirts! Low wait on food arrival.

Good food and sets, they have an okay range of choices. I was actually surprised they didn't have salad on the menu (somen salad doesn't count, those are noodles). My family and i go there often read more

My son and I enjoy coming to this location. We mainly order the curry, he gets the katsu curry and i get the plain curry. Very yummy. I like how they have the cooks on display. The place has a comfortable atmosphere and we never have to wait long at all. We also like the gyoza though i would prefer it crispy. Hm... just about ready to go there again soon! read more

The food hit the spot. My hubby and I shared the Set A. It was a lot of food and it came pretty quickly. Gyoza took a little longer, but it was fresh and cooked deliciously. We should be back! read more

Food was gross, Something I don't recommend to anyone. Customer service was horrible. Very upsetting!

I go here often (2-3 times a month) because it's in my neighborhood and the food portions are generous for the price. The service if you dine in is not so pleasant as the Chinese ladies seem irritated and impatient as if they'd rather be somewhere else. So I usually just call in my order and get take out. My favorite menu items are chicken katsu curry, seafood crispy noodles and mapo tofu ramen. Oh yeah, and I always request my gyoza to be deep-fried. Yum! read more

First time here. Got the gyzoa ramen. Pretty good. We got the free gyzoa as well, it was very good. We will for sure go back. And its not very expensive for 2 it was just over $21 so pretty good prices! read more

I recently ate here with my husband and didnt have a pleasent experience. First of all The older cook in the back creepily STARED AT ME the whole entire time I was there LITERALLY while he was in the back he was just sitting staring out at me . I couldnt have chosen the worse seat , and I cant make this up !! I felt so uncomfortable. Second, the Food was horrible My rice was drowned in gravy to where I couldnt even enjoy it, The smell was unbearable and gross, the noodles I ordered had no taste and right after I ordered, the food came 30 seconds later so I know it wasnt Fresh at all. They mainly have pork options as well so if you dont eat pork dont even bother. Worse place Ive eaten at so far . Not an authentic asian or Ramen place. To the two guy workers that kept staring at us while we ate staring isnt polite, I wont be back. read more

Drove out to Hawaii Kai costco before dinner, but didn't feel like eating a hot dog or pizza. Since it was cold and rainy, Ramen-Ya sounded like a good choice. We were seated promptly and our order was placed right away. I chose the combo B (curry/won ton soup/gyoza) and the others both got combo A (fried rice/ramen/gyoza). The food came out really fast. The beef curry w/rice was average, nothing spectacular. I wish the won ton soup came with some noodles too. The soup itself was pretty one-note and bland. The gyoza was also a bit bland, I had to douse it with some vinegar/hot oil action. The fried rice was decent, although, very salty. I think overall all the food was very salty, as I felt so thirsty after. And even after drinking several glasses of water, my thirst was not quenched. In conclusion, although the prices are fair and the quantity of food is generous, I'd rather not feel like I licked a salt block. Next time, I'll stick with Costco food. read more

I bought food to go earlier this afternoon and am now suffering. I knew something was wrong with what it ordered but I was so hungry I ate it anyways. I bought a spam curry katsu which came with way too much rice. I mean, the entire to go tray was filled with rice that did not taste fresh. Parts of the rice was hard and dry and the other was soggy from the sauce. The spam had no spam flavor. It's spam, it should taste salty and delicious. Even with the katsu breading it had no flavor to it. The curry was poured off on the side of the tray making it look like it was a lot but because of the enormous amount of rice it was really deceiving. I ordered and ate my lunch after 12:30pm and have been throwing up since 2pm. I haven't eaten anything else so it had to be the katsu spam or the rice. I'm pretty disappointed. Cam had a mini spam katsu with his mini ramen and hasn't been feeling well either. read more
