Jiro style ramen noodles. Was recommended to us, so my family decided to give it a try. Ordered the spicy saito ramen with thick noodles. You can adjust the saltiness/fat/thickness of the noodles and put add-ons like egg, extra meat etc. I also got egg and meat as add-ons. Love that it came with a mountain of bean sprouts, Noodles were chewy, but it was not spicy, not even a little bit. The egg did not have that jammy yolk, and the meat that came with the ramen was very dry, but the add on for the meat was tender. Service was good, the waitress checked up on us often. Wished they had gyozas or chicken karaage on their menu. Had better ramen elsewhere.

Ramen Tabetai has been on the bucket list ever since it opened - and today we thought to give it a try. It's a Jiro style ramen known for the thick and chewy noodles w/ a rich savory, garlicky, and fatty broth. There's literally no place like it in Toronto! You can select your flavor preference, 0-100%, and they have recommendations for flavor preferences too. I prefer a lighter yet rich broth, so i picked 25% fat, saltiness and 50% garlic. The noodles are super thick and definitely handmade, and the broth is so rich and flavorful! I definitely could not finish my meal because of how thick the noodles are and how rich the broth is. In my opinion, i cannot have this type of ramen too often but I think it is worth trying if you haven't tried it before. I prefer a thinner noodle but I did really enjoy the jiro style ramen. Ramen tabetai is very unique and i highly recommend trying! I would only go for this type of ramen in the winter time when I crave a thick noodle texture. The broth alone is worth making the trip for it! If ramen tabetai offered a thinner noodle It would be on my monthly repeat list for sure! 4/5 for the ramen 4/5 for the onigiri 5/5 for the experience

Ramen Tabetai located along Cumberland St near Avenue Rd in Yorkville is a ramen restaurant opened by the 2-star Michelin chef, Masaki Saito. The restaurant is located next door to his other omakase restaurant, MSSM. In regards to the ramen, this shop specializes in jiro style ramen, which is characterized by thick noodles, bean sprouts/cabbage, and pork chunks in a rich tonkotsu pork broth where the flavour can be customized with additional options of back fat, garlic and soy sauce Ramen Tabetai had a lot of hype when it first opened as the restaurant did a promo where they gave out 100 bowls of free ramen to students. Back then I remember seeing the long lines for free ramen and was intrigued to try it. I stopped by Ramen Tabetai on a Thurs around noon for lunch. Upon arrival, you do have to go up a flight of stairs to enter the restaurant. Upon entering I was greeted by staff and led to the ramen bar at the back facing the open kitchen as I was dining solo. Staff were friendly where they provided me a bag to place my bag in (so that it wouldn't get dirty from the floor) as well as explained the menu to me as it was my first time dining there. The restaurant wasn't busy and there were only maybe 5 other customers dining. In regards the menu, there are only 2 ramen options available, either the hot ramen or cold seasonal ramen which was a soupless ramen. I opted for the hot jiro ramen where I could customize the back fat level, garlic level, veggie level, and the saltiness level. Since it was my first time there, staff recommended that I do half levels of everything as the broth can be quite heavy and filling. You are also able to add on an onsen egg, ginger, or even extra chashu. They also have onigiri as well as a nice selection of Japanese teas, soft drinks, and a non-alcoholic beer option as well. Once my order was placed my food arrived pretty quickly since the restaurant wasn't busy. The ramen was placed on top of a plate and the chefs also put additional seasonings of pork fat, garlic and soy sauce on the side for me so that I could customize the flavouring in my ramen. Food wise, the ramen was hearty and warming. I haven't had a lot of Jiro ramen before but the broth had good pork flavour. I'm not a huge fan of bean sprouts to begin with but I did eat it with my ramen as it came with. The piece of pork that came with the ramen was huge and somewhat tender (could have been more tender). The noodles had a nice chew and bounce and was cooked well. Overall, a decent bowl of ramen but not one that I would go back to in a while. Overall, service was friendly and the space is casual and relaxed. It's nice that they only serve a few different ramens - this way they can continue to improve and perfect one dish. A hearty bowl of ramen in the heart of Yorkville.

Ramen with 50% less salt, fat, and veggies.

My friend has read good reviews about this restaurant and suggested that we go here for lunch. Our visit was on a hot Saturday afternoon. As I wanted to make sure that we had a table for lunch, I showed up early. As soon as I entered, I was warmly greeted by the staff. A young lady welcomed me and asked where I would like to sit (table or bar). I picked the table, so that I can sit down comfortably. Soon after, another young lady came by and introduced herself as my waitress. She asked if I would like to order first, or wait until my friend arrives (and I informed her that I would like to wait). In the meantime, she brought a glass of cold water and the menu. While looking at the menu, my friend showed up. Then the waitress returned and she greeted my friend and waited for her to settle in. As this was our first time, our waitress explained the options available and shared her recommendations (e.g. 50% less salt and 50% less fat for the ramen). We decided to take her recommendations and ordered ramen as she has recommended. For my friend, she also reduced the garlic level by 50%. For me, I also reduced the garlic and amount of veggies by 50%. After a few minutes, our order came out and we couldn't wait to eat! The portion size of the ramen was quite large, which we did not expect. We were glad that we came here hungry! The ramen was delicious- the salt, fat, and garlic level were just right. My friend liked having good amount of veggies in there as well. I felt that 50% less veggies was sufficient. The noodles were cooked just right- they were soft and chewy. Also, the piece of pork chashu was cooked just right- it was tender. My friend was not able to finish the ramen, so she wanted to take the rest home. Unfortunately, she was informed that this restaurant does not provide such service. She was not happy that the rest of the food was going to be thrown out. We thought that it was odd that this place doesn't provide such service- perhaps that is something that their team could implement in the future. Overall, we had a good experience and would recommend others to try it out the next time they are in the neighborhood.

They have only two menu options for the ramen. The limited menu is the cold noodle without soup and we go for the soup noodle. They allow you to choose the level of each garlic, salty, back fat and veggie. This noodle unluckily not my favourite one but you can try this out if you love the noodle with back fat. The space of restaurants is enough and they have some bar table that you can see how the chef makes the noodle. They also offer the complimentary ice cream after your noodle but I didn't get this time.

I debated whether or not to try this place and eventually gave it a go, but honestly it didn't feel worth the hype. The name-drop of being connected to a Michelin background might raise expectations, but that almost made it harder to overlook the downsides. Yes, the broth is richer than many other Jiro-style ramen spots in Toronto, but beyond that it fell short. The ramen itself felt more like a challenge than comfort food. Extra-thick noodles cooked close to kata-men (al dente) with a back-fat heavy soup base and chashu from pork shoulder make for something bold, but not necessarily satisfying for the general public. Without the membership discount, the price point doesn't really add up, and even then it only makes sense if you plan on coming several times. Add-ons and even bottled drinks felt marked up just for the sake of it and the eggs especially were a letdown. Being asked to confirm whether I wanted little bit of extra garlic (at the same price) after a bit over 5 minutes felt like joke, especially in a half-empty restaurant with only a handful of diners. That said, the Maze-men was the highlight. It had a clearer theme and more balance of flavor and texture, which made me wonder why the same care wasn't reflected in the main ramen bowls. The space is nice, and clearly money went into the design and presentation, but overall it felt more like a business model than a dining experience. I did end up getting the membership card out of curiosity, so here's hoping things improve, but I wouldn't rush back at full price.

Was pleasantly surprised when we got to Ramen Tabetai at Yorkville Toronto at 7pm on a Friday. I was expecting to wait a long time but surprisingly our party of 4 was seated immediately without resos (they don't take reservations so they're on a first come basis). The restaurant is very clean and right at the heart of Yorkville with lots of nice restaurants and shops in the area. Service was excellent and staff were all super friendly. There is only the one ramen dish to choose from so it saves customers from decision paralysis when you see the menu. We ordered the: The ramen - the broth was very flavorful and delicious, with think ramen noodles (only comes in one kind of ramen noodle). You can choose the amount of garlic, fat level, veggies and saltiness. The server recommended to go half for everything except the veggies so I went with that. The char siu port meat was very good and tender. - $22 - 9/10 Onigiri set - the onigiri set came with 3 flavours; Yukari, Shirasu and takikomi. They were all pretty simple with it mostly being seasoning and rice but it was very delicious and light. - $5 - 7.5/10 Overall I really enjoyed the ramen and found the pricing extremely reasonable considering the restaurant is opened by a 2 Michelin star chef. My only complaint was not being able to choose the thickness for the noodles, I would have personally chose a thinner style of noodle. However it doesn't take away from how delicious the ramen was! I would recommend visiting this place if you're in the Yorkville area of Toronto!

Obviously when we heard that a Michelin star chef had opened a ramen joint, we knew it was just going to be a matter of time before we popped in. We showed up right on time for our reservation and were shown to a table near the front. After our server explained everything, we decided to just get the ramen without any alterations or substitutions (although we did pay a little extra for nori and an egg). The ramen came out a short time later and it was almost an intimidating amount of food. It's so good, though. The various components are all tasty but that broth is the real star here. It's just so rich and delicious, and it's certainly enhanced by the other ingredients. It's a top-notch bowl of ramen. It was so much food that I couldn't even finish, but the restaurant refuses to pack up leftovers for some bizarre reason. It's because of that I can't give the place a full five stars. If I'm paying this much for food, I should be allowed to take some home with me.

One of the best ramens I've had! Their portions are generous and the soup is so flavourful! The only thing I didn't like is that the meat was a little dry, but aside from that I enjoyed my meal very much! Unfortunately, I would skip their onigiri as it lacked in flavour.

Onigiri

Big expectations with the Michelin advertising, but it's average. The meat is cut choppy and uneven, and too thick. It's also dry. Better options for ramen in Toronto Michelin ginger just tastes like regular ginger Service is friendly, interior is clean

Maybe it's because I had just gotten back from Japan when I came here but it was not as good as I was expecting! Ramen was OK but not ammazzinggg. It's nice that you can really customize it though (I got 100% everything as recommended. The onigiri was pretty disappointing. It completely fell apart when it arrived at our table and it had no taste.

One of the best ramen spots in Toronto. Really satisfying meaty flavor, and the spicy ramen is good too.

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

Reach ten stamps and you get a free bowl of ramen. - The chashu is excellent! My rating is 4.5 stars. I'm rounding down. Last Tuesday, I had my monthly 7 am meeting with a bunch of technical writing peers from around the world. It's quite the meeting that typically lasts for four hours. Luckily, we ended earlier than usual. It meant that my workday ended at around 3:30 pm. It was perfect, as I had a concert to attend several hours later. Normally, I don't do dinner before a concert. I grab a quick bite to each before I head downtown. This time, since I was done work early, I felt that having an early dinner was worthwhile. I drove downtown and parked in a lot that seems to be my usual spot whenever I'm attending a concert at Massey Hall. My original plan was to find an eatery close to the concert venue. I spotted Hokkaido Ramen Santouka steps away. I wanted ramen! I walked in and there was a sign that said to wait. I had no wait time. A woman and the entire staff greeted me. I asked for a table for me and got one. It was great. Seating between tables and diners is close together. You definitely overhear conversations and you can't help it. The man next to me had stretched his foot under my table. I didn't notice that he was in my space until I uncrossed my leg and my foot hit his. I listened to two friends next to me. The man seemed to take charge over what he and his female friend should eat, which was interesting. He gave the impression that he was an expert until the server came over and he had a ton of questions. It's always fun being an observer and listener. I had no choice but to listen to her dating experiences. I got a menu. I knew what I wanted. My server came over and was ready to take my order. I got these items: - Diet Coke - Miso chachu ramen, with bamboo shoot held - Jammy egg and corn as extra toppings The menu doesn't tell you what ingredients you get in each type of ramen. However, it does come with a photo. I asked how large a large bowl of ramen was. My server was great pointing up to a display of three bowls. I went large. The photo indicated that my miso ramen had bamboo shoots. I'm not a fan of them, so I asked that they be omitted. I also added a jammy egg and corn. I got a cold can of Diet Coke. A frosted glass with ice accompanied it. I was happy. I love an icy cold drink. This one was excellent. I loved that it was extra cold. My bowl of ramen had arrived. I was excited to dive in. My miso chachu ramen was delicious. The miso flavour was on point. I drank most of the broth, which speaks volumes on how yummy it was. The chachu was tender and had the best balance of pork and fattiness. The number of slices was generous. The ramen was chewy and perfectly done. I loved the corn and jammy egg. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed my ramen without these two key toppings. They worked nicely with the green onions. What prevents me from giving this place a perfect rating is flagging a server to get me water, or to frankly flag any staffer for something, such as ordering dessert or getting the bill. It took effort and hand-waving to get their attention. It took two tries to get a glass of water with ice. I was happy when I got some after I had finished my Diet Coke. It was equally as cold and yummy. I ordered dessert. The menu is stuck on each table. I asked what ice cream flavours were available. There were two flavours and I went with matcha. It was rich, creamy, and full of strong matcha flavour. The scoop of ice cream was generous. I loved the small spoon, which allowed this dessert to last a lot longer. I asked for the bill. I got a payment machine. I used my credit card to pay and tip. All was great. I used the washroom before I headed over to explore the downtown area. The washrooms are downstairs. It's an older building, so accessibility is an issue. There are two single-stall washrooms. The one that I used was clean. Because it's an older building, the ceiling is low. I am just shy of six feet in height. I made it without hitting my head on the ceiling. If you are six feet and taller, you'll need to duck to make sure you don't bang your head. Staff say goodbye to you when you leave. It was a nice touch, although I don't know what they are saying to me in Japanese. They could be swearing at me and I wouldn't know. I had a wonderful experience here. If you don't mind sitting close to folks and waving your arms like a maniac to get your server's attention, come here. This ramen joint appeared as a Michelin place in 2017. I can see why. The food quality is excellent. (200)
