Let's try to keep this place in business! Clean, friendly and the noodle bowls were outstanding. Tried two kinds, Miso Ramen and a version of Pork Ramen. Both were served steaming hot and full of fresh, rich flavor. I'm not a connoisseur of Ramen exactly, so I can't say if this was "authentic" or not, but I'm told by others it was the most authentic in town. I just know it was delish! Also- on a snowy night the hot tea was a gentle, smooth treat. It seemed better than I'd had in a long time. We're going back very, very soon. Give these guys a try. Always try to do dinner here at least once every time we come up to Anchorage. I have brought along several guests visiting from out of town. I love the look on their face when I tell them we are going to have ramen for dinner, then seeing them after they have been served their meal. My friend and I were excited to try "real" ramen I guess you can say.. once we got our ramen and started eating it, my friend looked at me and said "did we just really pay $15 for some ramen we could've cooked at home ourselves??". Awesome Ramen! I ordered chicken Katsu and spicy Miso Ramen. Their ramen is very taste and has lots of vegetables. I just wish they serve more noodles. The Katsu was very taste and crunchy. I experience a strange feeling as if I am eating something my mom cooked when I go to the Ramen House. It doesn't make much sense (my mom has never cooked ramen) until the little old lady who has thoughtfully prepared my bowl of soup ambles out of the kitchen to check on me. This is my new favorite restaurant in town. It's your perfect hole-in-the-wall: it's got a no-frills but cozy vibe, the ramen is delicious, and the people are as friendly as they come. I order the miso ramen every time. And I finish it. I am a smaller human, but I just can't help myself. It is so good. If you are feeling even a smidgen under the weather, go here. Somehow the waitress senses you are ill and brings you tea without even asking. And then the soup. Oh man. Consider yourself cured. This was our first ramen experience since returning from living in Japan for the past two years. We were a little apprehensive at first but the reviews looked good so we checked it out. We ordered the miso and shoyu ramen and they were both very tasty. The size was pretty good, and the broth was delicious. Fireweed is slowly becoming a place to actually park and hang out, which is definitely a welcome change of pace. It's sort of like that small village on the road between two cities, it's not well known but you won't find a better place if you know what you're looking for. It's hard to compare this to Naruto since I like that place and they know me there, but the comparisons stop at the aesthetics. The decorating scheme is a little on the sparse side, with a couple glaring entries on the wall. I'm not sure about the swords next to the soda fountain but whatever. There's no manga stack or tv looping chibi maruko, not from what I've seen, but oh well. But onto the more important part: the food. For starters the menu is too different. For one, this place doesn't have udon, much, which as a ramen place isn't too big of a loss. But in its place are other things, like a lot of things, a lot of staples of a typical Japanese place. It was nice to be offered tea off the bat though. In a mug. Which is a sign. Not a bad sign, but I'll get to it. My first go around I tried the gyoza. It was nice to see it fried and steamed, not that weird deep-fried crap you see everywhere. It was okay. Nothing to really write home about because home is where the best gyoza is. Can't help my bias, sorry not sorry. The flavor was a little bland and I don't know why but I've only ever seen one Japanese place offer soy sauce with vinegar to dip. This isn't it. I dunno, more of that home version bias I guess. Then miso ramen. There was a LOT of stuff in there. Very filling. Mostly vegetables. Which is a little odd. There was a little pork in there but not much, like a couple nuggets. Usually it's 3 good sized slices prominently displayed but this was under everything, like seeds at the bottom of a dense jungle. And no naruto maki? There was corn but... ah whatever. They gave me a little dish of takuan/pickled daikon though. What I also found interesting was how it all seemed to be thrown in there. Most ramen places sort of lay things in carefully and compose it like a painting. I mean, they got a lot of stuff in there at least. Plus I got offered togarashi after it came out. I mean, just bring it out anyway. Or leave it on the counters and tables. togarashi and soy sauce are the salt and pepper of japanese food. It took a minute to get the food out, but I took that as an indicator that it was made to order. If I could sum this place up... between naruto and this place, I'd say it's like two Japanese American brothers that grew up in the US. One grew up closer to his roots. One grew up closer to his home. This is the latter. He grew up an all American kid, then took a trip to Japan, picked up the language and some ramen recipes, and came back telling grandma he wanted to open up a ramen place. He's opening up a Japanese restaurant but he has some practicality in mind. More stuff packed into the bowl. Mugs with handles instead of traditional cups. I'll have to take a closer look next time I go in. Spoiler alert, I plan on going back. the fact that I've been there twice and the waitress remembers me is promising. I'm not one to say I'm super-awesome beyond sarcasm as I usually go low-key when trying places, it lowers their defenses and it tends to bring out their average rather than their A-game. It hasn't really knocked me off my feet, but there's a greater variety of ramen here over naruto that's calling me back, as well as non-noodle menu items. Naruto has promised to change up their menu, though I hope they keep their udon menu or expand it at least, so there's always a reason for me to go back there. read more

I Have eaten ramen for 10 years.I've tried so many kinds of ramen including the ramen in Tokyo, Kyoto and Sapporo. This is definitely the worst ramen I've ever eaten. The tonkotsu ramen has no tonkotsu flavor at all. I wouldn't try it again even if someone give me $50. read more

I came here on a Thursday night because I was in the area and heard there was a new restaurant in the revolving door of this location. I'm a fan of ramen and frequent Naruto on Minnesota often. First of all, the new owners of this location have taken time and effort to redo the interior and decorations to make it feel like a true ramen house. And simple and neat. Any vestiges of prior restaurants in this location are gone. The staff greeted me quickly and politely and I was surprised to be seated so quickly despite it being fairly busy. The downside right now is that they haven't gotten their liquor license. But they are working on it. I decided on the miso ramen after looking over their concise menu of solid options. It was a tough choice. It was amazingly good. Like, I wish I were not so full so I could order another. The ingredients are fresh and flavorful. I think it's the best ramen I've had in Anchorage, no offense to the other spots. If you're curious, I highly recommend this place. read more

Not worth the money they charged for their food. Ordered special ramen which menu says includes pork as beef and some veggies. Well the ramen came in with little ground meat and lots of cabbage and green onions and half boiled egg. No flavor whatsoever and this is supposed to be their "special" ramen.
