Ralphs: Girl Scouts are outside innocently selling their delicious goodies Food 4 Less: Crack-heads are lurking in dark corners outside waiting to make a scheme up of how they ran out of money for gas (knowing they don't even drive) Ralphs: They have a huge selection of fresh artisan cheeses for any occasion Food 4 Less: They don't carry grated parmesan cheese but oddly enough have all different types of queso fresco. Ralphs: Quick and easy checkout I've personally haven't experienced long lines. This is my neighborhood market, and while I have never been a huge fan of Ralph's, this one is pretty good. Pros: The shelves are usually well stocked, the store is clean, the produce always seems fresh, and the employees are very friendly. There is a cool, small town vibe to the place and the employees seem genuinely happy to be there. They always have good deals on the stuff I regularly buy, so I am able to stock up and save. They have both a Redbox kiosk and a Coinstar machine. There is a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf inside the store. Cons: The aisles feel narrow and the store seems cramped. The way the store is organized feels awkward and things are never where they are in other grocery stores. The parking lot can be treacherous. As it is within walking distance I find myself here a couple of times a week. It is clean, convenient, and alot cheaper than Gelson's which is slightly closer to my home. I am quite happy to shop here and will continue to do so. read more

Well I got to know this Ralph's in Pasadena pretty well since we did dinner at my daughters for Thanksgiving and that means 4 trips in a day. (For several days between the 2 of us) The store makes sense the way it is laid out, it is a bit cramped but even on a very busy food shopping day, we all fit just fine. I found the service to be excellent even in the mist of frenzy - they were friendly and helpful. Only one cashier seemed to let the stress get to her (mine of course), but nobody's perfect. I never had problems parking - even during this crazy few days, so I was pretty impressed with that. They also did a good job of keeping the carts out of the parking lot that all the lazy people have to leave there. Well done Ralph's!! read more

This place is mainly good if you're looking to make a quick run to pick up booze, deli meats or some roasted chicken because you don't feel like cooking dinner. I used to shop here all the time before biting the bullet and switching to Von's instead, because the slight price increase was worth it over this place. I only come here now to pick up things from the aforementioned list. So what's wrong here? 1) They will run out of things quite often, and simple things you shouldn't run out of at a grocery store. Recently, fresh basil leaves. You know, a staple of a lot of cooking and something that is a "duh" for most stores; sent the boyfriend there to grab some when I realized ours were gross and they were out of them, and said they didn't carry any non-pre-packaged fresh basil. It's not like I'm looking for essence of starfruit here--it's basil. This isn't the first time it's happened with very run of the mill, normal foods (if they carry it at all). 2) SLOW. The lines at the check outs are usually long if you go at any sort of "peak" time, and more than half of the registers will be closed. Some of the cashiers are friendly and efficient while others are slow or rude. 3) The security is really wanting. I would never go here by myself after dark because that's when it turns scary; I have nothing against homeless people and am not easily scared, but the amount of times I was in here minding my own business just to be harassed or outrightly threatened is absurd. Homelessness is certainly a sad problem that needs to be addressed, but being unable to browse the baking aisle without three separate men coming up to me and threatening me with bodily harm/assault if I don't fork over change/food is ridiculous. There is rarely anybody stopping this sort of behavior and I'd rather pay a few cents more for something than be afraid of getting attacked (and trust me, it's that bad). read more

Clean, easy to navigate and always plenty of parking. Plus, if you need anything late night, they're open until 2am! But they're still figuring out how to check folks out with the chip card and the lines move pretty slow last time I was in the store. Also I went in to redeem a powerball ticket that I won $4 on, but they only gave me $3. I thought this was pretty standard until I went to another liquor store and they gave me $4. This Ralphs is a standard store. All of the aisles are fairly well-organized and clearly marked. It is a pretty large space and easy to maneuver. The parking lot is large and it's easy to find a vacant space. It is conveniently located close to the 210 freeway - take the Lake Ave exit and go south. read more

A good solid local grocery store with a wide variety of standard grocery store produce. The staff are generally very helpful - there's even a guy that goes out of his way to say hello to the shoppers and ask if they need anything. Checkout is usually very quick and painless. The deli people are also very friendly; and there's a wide assortment of locally prepared bread, meats, cheeses and pastries. Another plus in its favor is that there is a recycle depository conveniently next to the store where people go to recycle soda cans and glass. The only downside is understandably the price. It's a bit more expensive than the produce at Wal-Mart. On the plus side, it feels more like a grocery store with real human beings working in it, and less like an over-sized storage unit operated by exploited illegal immigrants that smell like vegetables that Wal-Mart is so well known for hiring. read more

i had the worst "racial profiling experience at this store today in self check out. While in the self check out line a cashier/supervisor CHRISTINE came up to me and ask if i wanted assistance I told her"no thank you". Christine continued to stand behind me and watch me, while 4 other people 3 white 1 Asian was in line she focused all her energy & attention on me. I was very uncomfortable as an african american being singled out. I ask her what or why was she standing there like that as I was at the last register and she yelled out "I'm JUST DOING MY JOB". Her volume & tone was very loud and disturbing as well as her behavior harassing! Sge went out to be very nice to other customers and extremely rude to me. I told her i was going to report her and she replied "GO HEAD"! I would think with everything going on and all the "racial tension" that Ralphs would train there employees about racial sensitivity, but i guess not. I reported CRISTINE to the manager but i am not sure if anything really will be done. i am considering doing my future shopping at Vons as they are always polite and respectful to everyone regardless of race. I am always treated nicely by Mike, he is excellent:)! Customers should not feel singled out while shopping and Christine's behavior is completely unacceptable to say the least.... read more

What can you say about a grocery store? This particular one is close to the office, so I've come here to get their breakfast burritos (very good). Their morning baked goods (bagels, pastries) are someone lacking. Those seem like they've been there for a while. Lunch-wise, I enjoyed the salad bar, where there are so many items to choose from. The fried chicken is also passable although greasy. There's also a great selection of healthier food choices like fruit. read more

Huge fan of Ralphs not so much this one. Compared to other Ralphs this one has less selection and there's always a line at the cash registers. Some cashiers are on point and are really good at whipping people through. The female manager does a good job and one of the female cashiers is probably the fastest cashier I've seen in my life. But if neither of them are there, checking out is a very slow and annoying process. You'll be lucky to even see more than two lines open most of the time. read more

I came into town and needed some toiletries. I found this grocery store and proceeded to gather my purchases. I then went to checkout and everything seemed fine I accepted the prices and lack of selection. I paid my bill with my debit card as I always do. Then the girl packing my groceries asked if I wanted a bag; of course I said yes I have several items and it will help to carry them. I was then informed that a plastic bag would cost 16 cents and that even paper bags were a charge. I find it ridiculous having to buy bags for my groceries. It seems California does not understand how to treat customers and I completely understand why the State is bankrupt. Will a business go out of business for giving a customer a 2 cent bag for free when they just spent 20+ dollars in your store? read more

Sorry Ralph's but you just lost another star. I went back to Ralph's this past week to buy, of all things, a yellow squash. When picking out a squash I looked up only to notice a cobweb hanging from the top of the vegi display case. I then thought "well at least the squash isn't moldy like last time." I realize grocery stores can be hard to keep perfectly clean with the amount of foot traffic going through the store. I expect fallen produce, spilled soda, etc., but I should not experience cobwebs and mold on the same vegetable selection on two different occasions. Come on Ralph's, get it together. read more

Anyone using Instacart in the 91107 should be advised that the employees are extremely shady. Yesterday, The shopper somehow got my number because he knew someone higher up and called me swearing at me and threatening me. When I called instacart, they did nothing. There is an investigation going on with this company and I told them I did not want credit towards my account because I will no longer be using them. I asked them to send me a check of the missing items because I got a physical receipt from the manager at Ralphs that I know and the missing items came out to $42.93. they told me to give them 7 to 10 days and I said that would be the 29th. The lady said to give them till the 31st. I agreed but I still went to the police showing them what this man threatened me said because my phone is able to record conversations. Instacart hires people with violent tempers and two steal. Please be careful because these shoppers they hire are not stable or vetted. The news are even warning people to not use instacart as there is an investigation into them already. To anyone using instacart, please be very careful because this guy threatened to come back and hurt me and instacart didn't seem to care. read more

All I wanted on my visit to LA was to head to a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and this Ralph's had one. I asked for an iced coffee and the lady gave me hot coffee with ice...hmmmm. This should probably be a Coffee Bean review, but the supermarket itself was okay. I got salad from the salad bar and the ham was really dry and looked like it had been sitting out for 2 days. I got chili from the soup bar and I swear it had chuncks of lard in it. Needless to say, I didn't finish eating it. read more

Good selection of products and groceries. Service can be a hit or miss depending on when you go. Good thing about this location is that they open LATE. But, I would avoid going to this location if it is too late at night. They typically have only one worker at the cashier and sometimes there are homeless people frequenting the aisles not buying anything. My first time here, it was kind of scary cause I had never went to another Ralph's that had a security officer inside. Apparently there have been people coming in, stealing beer/alcoholic beverages and then running out. The evening I went, there was only one cashier which was annoying. The line quickly grew and before we knew it, there were about six people in line waiting for one cashier. They really need to get some additional help at night because it does get rather busy. Come during the day if you can, but if you come at night just be careful and weary! read more

Back when I first moved to 'dena in the early 90s, this was my supermarket of choice. I could go in, get my groceries at a good price, and be gone in a flash. Then things started getting weird - really weird - and it literally became dangerous to shop here. More times than not there was an incident of some sort - irate customers fighting with cashiers, drunk people harassing customers and scaring children, cops having to be called to break up "situations." Didn't matter if it was day or night, weekday or weekend - sh*t happened, and it wasn't pretty! In fact, it was downright scary! And this ain't even da hood! It got to the point that I would only stop here when ABSOLUTELY necessary, i.e. when desperate. Given the choice, I'd go without whatever item or ingredient I wanted to get until I could go to a more favorable store. Then late last week there I was traveling north on Lake Ave., needing to get some sodas for a work function before getting on the 210 /134 west. This was the logical place to stop, but I hesitated because of past experiences. Still, I pulled into the lot, parked my car, didn't see any drunks or other unsavory folk, and timidly ventured inside. Wow! The entire store has been remodeled, updated and classed up. The shelves were well stocked, the staff was helpful, and I found everything I needed and then some, all without being harassed. Yeah...no. This used to be my close-to-work grocery option, but no more! The quality of the merch has been slipping and the prices rising (true everywhere). BUT this particular store seems to specialize in having expired or just-about-to-expire items on the shelves. It's not a fluke anymore, it's a way of life for them. The fridges are not cold enough (the yogurt felt warm) and I guess the meat isn't safe either (I was sickened by some turkey sausage). This Ralph's has crossed the line from iffy to dangerous. Clean and the workers are friendly, asking if you need any help. They have a lot of pre-made food. I ordered fried chicken (which was $7.99/8 pieces) and half a pound of cole slaw ($3.99/pound). The chicken was good but a little bit too salty. The cole slaw was okay. They have a lot of pre-made pastries and doughnuts as well. It kind of has an early 90s vibe, which some grocery stores oddly do. The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is no longer there but there is a Starbucks. Bring your own grocery bags if you don't want to pay for theirs. There is plenty of parking in their private lot, a water dispenser out front, and a red box inside the store. read more

I love this Ralph's Supermarket on Lake by Walnut . Our school had a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser last week and I approached this location to see if they can help our school with just a few pack of water. The manager jumped to action and gave me a gift card to shop within 20 mins. Not only that, she posted our fundraising flyer on the window by the manager station . How cool is that? After I went to this Ralph's, I was hopeful and felt great asking our community stores to help and it would be SO easy! WRONG , WRONG, WRONG . I went to 5 other big markets (ok, I won't name names), they treated me like I was homeless bagging for food. What happened to neighborhood supermarket searving our neighborhood community? Ralph's on Lake, North of 210, it's the one! Not only had they helped our public school with opened arms, the cashies are always quick and friendly. The market is clean and items are easy to find. It's a grocery store. They're open late. Parking has never been an issue for me. They do have some organic things, wish they had more. Prices are ok. Employees haven't ever been ride, I've never had a bad experience here. Delicious cupcakes from the bakery which I used for my son's birthday party!!! It can be difficult to find things though, and maneuvering around can be a bit difficult. I don't do a majority of my shopping here though - I do that at Whole Foods. I come here for small things here and there. I drive for Lyft so when I can't make it to Costco I stop by Ralph's and get some water, candy etc for my car to give to passengers. I get last minute fruit pick ups here like when my son is asking for a banana or when I'm making a smoothie and Whole Foods is closed. They also are totally ok with trading $10 for a roll of quarters - bc of Ralph's I can do laundry! Haha. read more

Generous two stars for prices and really nice cashiers. The big problem here is vagrants are constantly hanging around the parking lot and dumping trash. I have witnessed employees having to deal with these vagrants who sometimes are looking to steal something The store also allow many solicitors peddling stuff as you enter the store. This used to be my primary grocer but it deteriorated so much in the past few years that I only shop there when I only need a few items. I don't understand why the management does nothing to discourage the vagrants and solicitors.. I guess they must be waiting to lose more business before they address the problem. read more

I tend to stop by this one on my way to work or back from work to home. BAKERY I love the cakes that Ralph's offer. I usually get the tiramisu cakes or red velvet. Pretty good. SERVICE: Friendly. I always have the same woman at the check out. She's really friendly and has conversations with people. Very friendly and personable. There is usually workers walking around. So it's nice to always be able to ask questions. STORE: Clean. Fresh foods and flowers. They don't have much SALE stuff after a holiday. I was hoping for some Easter stuff to be on sale afterward... they didn't have much. COFFEE BEAN The only problem with them is that they DON'T take Coffee Bean gift cards. FAIL. This is a grocery store. YES, grocery stores in Pasadena are charging for bags now. It's a citywide policy. You get around that by bringing your own. That rant out of the way, I always appreciate how helpful the employees in this store are when I get completely turned around. I once accidentally asked an employee who was trying to go on break for help, and he was helpful and did not mind one bit the delay. Excellent customer service. They usually don't have long lines when I go in later in the evening. I also love how late they're open -- that works far better for my schedule than TJ'S closing at 9. I really felt compelled to write a review more in response to the terrible reviews that criticize absolute bullshit. Come on, yelpers. You're better than that. read more

This is the only grocery store I've ever been to where some of the stockers and other workers have said hello and seemed friendly...I didn't think much of the tall middle-aged cashier lady though. She seemed grumpy and kinda killed the vibes. Foodwise, their prices are average to highish. As for the store itself, the aisles are too narrow and overall congested as hell. Swear to god there were at least 5 instances where I witnessed people having to move idle carts out of the way or seeing people move their own carts just so someone could pass through. I accounted for two of those instances, having to pull my cart over to the side because getting two carts to simultaneously pass through an aisle here is impossible. Hell, even maneuvering my cart around the store was obstacle course-esque at times. The sad thing is, the store wasn't crowded at all, and I'm thin. I can only imagine how bad (entertaining) it'd get here with a store full of fat people getting around with their carts.. read more

***This review is for Instacart, the company Ralph's uses for their grocery delivery service*** I can honestly say the customer service at Instacart is the worst I have EVER received and I would discourage anyone from using grocery delivery service through them. I was excited to try Ralph's grocery delivery service for the first time thinking it would be a perfect option for our busy lifestyle. I placed an order for 17 items from this Ralph's location, and to my disappointment, I only received 4 items so I could not make dinner for my family last night. I received a text from the delivery person who said she was sorry but she "forgot" one of my bags at the store. Ok... this is very unprofessional, but things happen I guess. When I contacted Instacart customer service to politely let them know how disappointed I was and to request a refund, I received a seemingly automated response back (I would not be surprised if they didn't even read my email), "Please email us back after 24 hours so we can process a refund of the missing items". So I need to contact them in order to receive a refund for the items I never received? That was a first for me. I replied to let them know, again, how disappointing their customer service has been and how I do not plan on using their services again. But instead of responding with an apology, I received another seemingly automated response saying they credited my Instacart account $46, NOT my credit card, essentially forcing me to use their services again. After all is said and done it is clear that Instacart does not care about providing a quality customer experience. It is really disappointing that reputable brands like Ralph's can't find a quality company to represent them. Many people may not realize that Ralph's delivery service is through another company and this could in turn tarnish Ralph's reputation. read more

This is a tricky Ralph's and you have to know who to go to for help. I believe that Sal and Mark (who are both managers) are very helpful and always in a good mood. Kurt who is the other night time manger is a disaster! He tried to steal my money 2 times. I have him a $20 for and my change was supposed to be $16 back, he doesn't give me ANYTHING back and acts like I have him the exact change. This happened 2 times...I wonder how many times he does this a day and pockets the 'extra' cash he makes. Be careful about your change back people! The meat guy is an idiot and has NO clue what is in stock. The flower girl is amazing she does a great job. Everyone else...girls that bag your groceries and who collect the buggies are decent. Sal and Mark are my favorite. The 4 stars are really for them. read more
