First time here today! Discovered Raisu because of the vegan menu items and the ratings. The reservations were fully booked for the entire night but we were able to get the last 2 bar seats. I really wanted to try "The Zen Bento" which is described as Traditional Japanese Vegan Cuisine. But it has to be ordered 24 hours in advance. My fiancé wanted the "Sho Ka Do Bento" & "The Oceans Offerings" but they were sold out for the day. What we ordered: Omakase Aburi Sushi (was on the specials hand written menu), Seafood "Donabe Takikomi" Rice, Vegan Bara Chirashi Sushi. The omakase aburi was prepared by the sushi chef and we watched it being carefully put together, torched and garnished. These were absolutely delicious. You can taste the passion that went into creating this dish. The smokey flavour from the torching, the perfectly cooked and seasoned rice, the fatty salmon, the 3 different garnishes. Really incredible. The seafood donabe takikomi rice came out on a tray and 3 ingredients were in small dishes on the side and the server described each ingredient and mixed them in the rice by hand for us. My fiancé loves sea urchin and said this dish was rich and delicious. My vegan bara chirashi sushi bowl was so wonderful. The presentation was beautiful, the different textures, flavours. There was a lot of thought put into this dish. There was avocado, sweet bean curd, goji berries, micro greens, sprouts, cauliflower, mixed greens, red and white onions, perfectly cooked and seasoned rice. The combinations of flavours and texture was perfect. This is the best vegan Japanese dish I've ever had and a dish that I would definitely eat again. The only thing that would make me love it more is if there were an option for brown rice. The service was great. I read a few people said the service is horrible and one person didn't like that they were told how much time they have. This is not uncommon for restaurants that are fully booked, if they have full reservations they give you a max time so that they can turn the tables and not have the next reservation waiting long. But I can see how it can come off as rude when the hostess tells you how much time you have when you arrive. It would probably be better to tell customers over the phone that "There is a seating at X time so you have X time at your table." Or "We would like to let you stay as long as you'd like but we are fully booked for that night so you have the table for X amount of time." And then go up to them again and kindly remind them when the end time is near and say something similar again to lessen the blow "We would love for you to stay as long as you like but the next reservation is arriving soon. Just letting you have about 20 mins left. Is there anything I can get you right now?" I love the atmosphere. Very busy and very communicative (they yell all orders out in Japanese and again when food is ready). I love this place and I SO appreciate that they have vegan items on the menu and not just items that "can be made vegan". Not only do they offer vegan dishes...the dishes are carefully thought out and put together and VERY delicious. I can't wait to come back to try the Zen Bento. read more

Girls night out, first time here. We were tempted by the limited options (they only serve a set amount of some dishes), but most of them were gone by 7pm. Instead, we opted to get a deluxe seafood bowl and a triple cutlet teishoku meal to share for 3 people. The deluxe seafood bowl was beautiful, we loved the presentation of it all. A large shell was used as backing and on the top were edible gold flakes. We took quite a lot of photos before diving into the dish. We found that although it was a 5/5 in presentation, the taste was alright, nothing too exciting. 3.5/5. The triple cutlet teishoku meal was honestly the highlight of the meal. The pork cutlet was amazing! The best we've ever had as it was soft and full of flavour from the dip. The wagyu beef cutlet and the prawn cutlet were also great as well. 5/5 taste and presentation. Overall, we found that we were head over heels for the triple cutlet and put it as a must pick the next time we come here. The deluxe bowl was more like an one time thing, we'll most likely try to lock down the bento boxes though! read more

I can see why it gets high ratings, but aesthetics aren't enough to win me over. I think that the service was wonderful, timed well and kept me informed. The servers were sweet and attentive to what I needed. I ordered the Ocean's Offering and my friend ordered the Seafood Deluxe (I think that's what it's called, the chirashi bowl). Presentation alone is definitely a 5/5. It's very, very beautiful. I definitely spent a lot of time taking pictures of it because it was so lovely. But I was quite disappointed with the taste. Maybe it's just my taste buds, but I wasn't wowed. I thought the rice was doused with too much vinegar. Also with the Ocean's Offering, you're not getting much fresh fish. There was cooked shrimp, smoked salmon, eel, and the sweet egg. I definitely would have enjoyed a more raw experience instead of cooked products. I still liked that I got a variety, but I didn't like eating it as much as I liked looking at it. The Seafood Deluxe bowl was probably a better choice. If I'm in Canada again and trying this place, I would go for this one. The rice obviously doesn't reach the bottom, and I can tell that the fish is fairly fresh. I've heard that Canada is known for their sushi so I had very high expectation for their fish. It is possible that I am spoiled by San Francisco and Seattle fish, caught daily and right by the coast. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, but I was not wowed by the taste. I will have to find another place next time or try their other selection. read more

I went there for my friends birthday dinner. There were meter parking on the street. When we got there, there is a stair to walk up to the restaurant. Luckily we made reservation, because there were a line up waiting for seats. We got there at 8:30 and the server was so kind to remind us that their last order is at 10 pm. We were seated by the booth and we had to remove our shoes to seat. We asked if the limited items were still available, unfortunately, all the limited items were sold out by the time we got there. If you are interested in try their limited food, be sure to request in advance or go there for lunch. Our party ordered 3 snow-crab and uni udon. The bowls were huge and heavy! The uni sauce was super creamy and rich in uni flavor. We also ordered the deluxe chirashi. The presentation of the sashimi were fancy. There were gold flicks on the uni. I had the pork cutlet curry udon and my BF had the wagyu burger meal. They all were good. There are a lot of birthday tables when we were there. The servers would come to the table with birthday cake and sing. I would go back again to try the limited items next time for sure. read more

They have a really good tonktsu and the worst management, service and kitchen time in the entire Vancouver area. My last time at Raisu, and I mean it when I say last, was ridiculous. They were far from full, half full at most, with more than 5 servers + manager and yet I had to walk the manager around the restaurant to show where I could sit. Finally, after 20min of talking with servers and management they took me and my girlfriend on the bar, which had a total of 8 empty seats if I may add. Throughout this incredibly exhausting experience, it took us a total of 40min from walking into the door of a nearly half-full restaurant to getting food on our tables. They don't serve, they walk around lost looking stressed and screaming at each other with sweat dropping from the stress of serving 1-2 tables per server. I will never come back. Seriously, never and neither should you. read more

Absolutely wonderful! We wanted to try their shokado bento, but did not know to reserve one ahead of time. Fortunately, they had an extra one and we got to try it! We also tried the aburi omakase and the seafood bowl. The aburi sushi looked so plain at first, but blew out socks off with the flavor. The fish and uni in the seafood bowl was meltingly delicious. We also got some in-season spot prawns that were simply marvelous. read more

This place always exceeds my expectations no matter what dish it is. Every single one of their dishes are good on the menu. I have been here for more than 20 times and it's still great every time I have been here. I went here today again and they revamped their menu again for summer I am guessing. I got the tiger prawns croquette as an appetizer with snow&uni rice "seafood donabe takikomi rice" as my main. It was delicious and very flavourful. they also have a similar version in udon which is more creamy. I usually get the udon but the rice is just as good. Also got to try the chicken cutlet and egg with rice. Everything here is great with fantastic service. The atmosphere is good and nicely decorated bar with hanging sake bottles as lights read more

I would love to give 4 stars but ... let's begin with the first impression is everything. The moment we step in the waitress start to tell us about the Time limit and calculating the time that we have left... TBH b*tch please! If you don't want to serve your customers right, don't open a restaurant...if you do this to serve the customer right, who are you trying to make it right? Just be gentle to the customer you have in your face ..... throw me off My dearest friend reserved two Bento which is limited 15 portion a day. But we didn't know what is inside yet since the menu change daily, the tik-tok waitress said again ( before we even sit down) that so do you guys want it? I've Not even read the menu yet how about let me read it first and I'll decide.... The food is alright. Very exquisite. Oyster is fresh. All the flavoured are balanced well. They all look really pretty and photogenic, but if you ask me which was my favourite...I can't recall. Cocktail not so good ...way to light! Quickly diluted with ice. And too much soda. At last ... the Tik-tok waitress came back coz it's was 6:50...I'm checking the clock as well alright? We almost finished everything, she asked if we were still work on. We said yes. And then she asked if we are ready for bill? So rude...if we are not finished why are you trying to push for the bills? If you want to give us the bill...just give it quietly...we are all civilized people with manners we understands. Plus with your attitude like that...why would we want to sit down for more? Customer only will be there because they like your food and enjoy your hospitality... read more

Low key shed a tear every time I look at the picture of the sashimi my boyfriend and I ordered here. The deluxe seafood bowl was definitely enough to share between two of us (and had a lot more in it than it seems in pictures), and the price was pretty great considering the quality of the fish (+ the presentation!). I loved the decor of the restaurant itself - very much an urban / hip take with the brick walls and piped furniture with bits of Japanese traditional seating in the balcony area. Wish I could come back more often, but I guess I'll have to wait til I visit Vancouver again! read more

I'm surprised I've never written a review for Raisu, and equally surprised to see all of the negative reviews on Yelp. As of yesterday, I've eaten at Raisu 9 times, and I've never been disappointed. I've dined at Raisu for with friends, family, my in-laws, for date night, and even for a birthday celebration. Each time, the service has been exceptional and the food has been fantastic. I also love that they have an extensive sake selection. My favourite dishes on the regular menu are the Deluxe Seafood Bowl and Sizzling Stone Beef Steak Hitsumabushi. Yesterday, I ordered the Snow Crab and Sea Urchin Cream Udon off of their special menu, which was delicious as well. Eating here is always a carbaload - it is called "raisu" (rice) after all, but so so satisfying! read more

Raisu - Special menu item: snow crab and sea urchin cream udon - Japanese Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

Rice (Raisu). Asia wouldn't be Asia without it. Opened on July 2nd, 2016, Raisu is the newest family member to the Tamarushoten group which now reaches Vancouver, Toronto and Seattle. Located atop a produce store, the space is classically Japanese design. The attention to detail from bonsai trees to wall art to wood carvings will keep your wandering eyes entertained. All tablespace are noticeably spacious including the bars, mainly due to the large (downright huge) serving dishes and boxes they use. The centerpiece sake bar is a beaut. They have 50 different sakes on hand, can't wait to work my way down the list. The covered patio overlooks W 4th with both regular and Japanese seating (no shoes!). We started with the milk silky mentaiko udon. Served in a sweet saikyo white miso, mascarpone cheese and briny code roe soup, it's a creamy dream. Also had to go for the daily sho ka bo bento box which are limited to only 15 a day. The 9 square box included: -minced shrimp and scallop sandwiched between tamago -snow crab gratin -cold truffle and salmon caviar egg pudding -100% wagyu beef meatball -grilled salmon with kale sauce -stewed shrimp and veggies in orange bowl -scallop and fruit sunomono -3 kinds of delicacies -tai snapper sashimi salad with apple vinegar jelly The box includes unlimited rice and miso soup. Staff are new hires (ours has only been in Canada for 3 months) and were very attentive and friendly. Go now before there's a line! read more

In a nutshell, Raisu offers a creative (and more traditional) menu unlike most other local Japanese restaurants. It gets five stars for food presentation, but three stars for taste and speed of food. We came here to try the SHO KA DO BENTO box ($25), a beautifully arranged 3x3 grid of various bites food seafood, meat and vegetables. The WAGYU BEEF MEATBALL, SNAPPER and tamago were delicious, but the 6 other items, which included a snow crab gratin, egg pudding, grilled salmon, and stewed shrimp in orange bowl, were mediocre or unappetizing. **You need to call in advance to order the bento box.** We wanted to try the DONABE TAKIKOMI (sea urchin and snow crab on rice), but that was sold out, so you should probably pre-order that one, too. The TIGER PRAWN CROQUETTE, served with a Tonkatsu sauce and tartar sauce, was crispy and delicious, but it was on par with your typical fried shrimp balls at Chinese restaurants. We had ordered the TRIPLE CUTLET TEISHOKU, but by the end of our meal, we were told that our order may have been given to another table, so we decided to abandon that adventure. We ended our meal with the CHEESECAKE, which was scrumptious because it was fluffy and barely sweet, and it came with a side of red bean and pistachio whipped cream, as well as a strawberry sauce. Just a note, it's probably best NOT to arrive too hungry, as we waited 30 minutes for our first food item to arrive, and the next table over had been waiting for a missing food item for over 30 minutes, too. read more

This was a carb-filled dinner. Don't think I've ever eaten so much rice in one sitting before. Not entirely complaining BUT the reason for all of this was because the two dishes we wanted to order were sold out after 10 minutes of opening. It was the SHO KA DO BENTO and THE OCEANS OFFERINGS which is limited to 15 and 10 per dinner service. It was sad 'cause we made reso's to make it there once they opened and was seated 4th but weren't given the Bento menu listing the daily specials and wasn't checked upon after it was sold out. I noticed the table beside us getting an extra paper menu and later on realized it was daily specials. Definitely minus points for inconsistent treatment. We also didn't get any water or tea when we sat down. Took them about 15-20 mins to get a glass for us. In the end we ended up getting: -SEAFOOD "DONABE TAKIKOMI" RICE (4/5-$24): The 3rd limited item on the menu. We ordered this immediately in case we end up missing out on this one if we waited a min longer. The seasoned rice topped with uni and crab came out in a claypot and our server mixed in the salmon caviar and some green stuff at the table. I'd say they gave a generous amount of uni and crab. The taste is quite interesting as I haven't had cooked uni before and usually have my caviar cold. Caviar actually tastes better warm/hot. Not a mind blowing dish but worth a try. The menu says it takes 30 mins to prep but it could've been less. -DELUXE SEAFOOD BOWL - $34 (3.5/5- $34): Initially a 4 point dish but when writing up this review, I realized some of the items on this dish was subbed out without notice. It would be nice if they'd let us know that a certain sashimi may not be available or that the chef thinks the other items might be more fresh on that day. We were supposed to get: Ahi Tuna, Sea Urchin, Yellow Tail, Snow Crab, Tai Snapper, Toro Salmon, Ikura and Sweet Shrimp. We got everything except the uni (sea urchin) and we only got 1 ebi (sweet shrimp). Didn't seem fitting that they were out of uni since we had that in seafood rice and that came out after the bowl. Instead we got tomago and scallops. All in all, the sashimi was super fresh and the rice was seasoned well. I'd say it's slightly better than the seafood rice dish above. -NIGORINJA ALE (4.5/5-$8): Love the fizz and love the berry taste. No overpowering ginger taste so that's a plus for me. I do taste the sake but it wasn't strong. I like the food. Not so much of the service. I don't hate it but little things do matter. Like serving us water when seated, consistently giving out daily menu's, telling your customers if you sub out items from their dish and bring sharing bowls and spoons when it was obvious that they'd be shared (and when we asked, he didn't understand and thought we wanted extra soy. Took him 4x to get it right). Main reason I'd come again is 'cause I didn't get to try the two dishes I came for. Might try their mentaiko udon as well. It looked pretty good and hope my next trip won't be such a carb-filled meal. read more

First of all, be careful of the steep staircase when waiting around for your table to be ready. The dishes were generous and very well presented. What impressed me about this restaurant is their thoughtful accommodation of guests. They have blankets for people sitting out in the covered patio to ensure that they are comfortable and warm. We ordered prawns and boy, I've never seen prawns that large before. We had two orders and were sufficiently filled. They could have been entrees and not just starters. There were some interesting presentation of food including a dish that had accessories (tiny clothes hanger with message). The dishes came with soup, rice and your main entree. It was affordable and felt like we got good value for what we expected. read more

Arriving at the restaurant, I felt like I was transported back to Ponto-cho in Kyoto. The entrance is hidden behind a noren with a picture of a stylized electric rice cooker. A flight of wooden stairs opens into a hip and stylish dining room. The centerpiece is a u-shaped communal counter under a display of beautiful sake bottles. The patio was open to the dining room and it brought in so much light. The restaurant was very thoughtfully designed - they even have slippers for diners seated on the patio's tatami style dining area and mouth wash & floss in the washrooms. The restaurant has been opened for a week now and I think that they will do great. I'm so excited that they are here. We are always looking for Japanese food that reminds us of our travels in Japan and Raisu is that place. The name means rice and rice is the staple served with the many teishoku on their menu. We both ordered the Sho Ka Do bento, it's their special bento consisting of the chef's selection of 9 small dishes served with rice and miso. They offer free refills of rice and/or miso. They only make 15 orders a night, I highly recommend trying this if it's available. I was impressed with the presentation. It was perfect. The taste was also pretty much spot on. Each dish looked and tasted different and was perfectly executed. I couldn't find any fault in the dinner tonight. Service tonight, as with any Japanese-operated restaurant, was amazing. We were treated like valued guests tonight. Our dessert took around 15 minutes and they told us well in advance about the wait time. We told them that we did not mind waiting. Still they took the dessert off our bill. Dessert was a Uji matcha cake with red bean cream. The cake was moist and tasty, but presentation needs a little more polishing to match the level of the cooked foods. I'm at awe by the level of service here. It just makes us want to go back over and over. Actually, I would go back very soon because while we were sitting there (waiting for our dessert), all that we could see and smell was the beautiful food coming out of the kitchen. They also have a good selection of vegetarian dishes, including a Zen bento that's coming soon. It's described as Shojin-ryori (temple cuisine) type meal. My wife is stoked! We haven't seen this type of cuisine outside of Japan. read more

This is probably of the new style Japanese food. Nice place and good view. When we arrived to here. All the tables were reserved. We sit in the bar part. We ordered a the famous The Oceans Offerings $24 (limited to 10 servings dinner only) and a Wagyu Beef Hamburg Teishoru $26. The Oceans Offering. It's very pretty and organized. I very like the presentation and the exclusive to order this dish. But compared to other photo there was not Arugula. It was interesting the different flavour that had them. However it was nothing special for me. It's normal sushi with different form. Wagyu Beef Hamburg Teishoru. It's burger meat in the middle of the plate with a lot of sauce (very salted) and come with 1 baby carrot, 2 green bean, 1 Brussel sprout and 1/4 potato. I didn't see nothing different to eat a hamburger with a lot sauce. I can said that it was something different I have never tried in Japanese Food, But it's very expensive. Server it was ok. Just ask for take the order, bring the foods and fill the water. I would like that they can ask for How is everything here? Or something like. Care more server por customer. read more

This restaurant was highly recommended on many FB Asian eats groups. It was recommended to make a reservation as it is very busy. We shared the Garlic Edamame, Corn and Brussels Sprout Karaage, and the Grilled Miso Pork Cheek. For the main, we had the Deluxe seafood bowl and the Snow Crab and Uni Cream Udon. The edamame was very tasty and had great flavour. The corn and Brussel sprouts was excellent. Very tasty and had the right amount of seasoning and crisp. The pork cheeks were tender and the dipping sauce was the perfect. The seafood bowl was full of fresh seafood and the rice was done perfectly - the right amount of vinegar and texture. The seafood was plentiful and the wasabi was ground fresh and matched perfectly with the raw fish. The snow crab and uni cream udon was excellent - just the right amount of cream and uni to give it a nice texture and broth. We also tried a pitcher of plum wine sangria. It was very refreshing and came with wasabi marinated raw squid snack. Overall a really enjoyable dinner. Would definitely come back. read more

Recommended by my Japanese roommate and I found it very nice indeed! Fish in the seafood bowl was very fresh and well served! Beef Udon was surprisingly good even for someone who was not crazy about Japanese noodles like me. As for desserts, I didn't make it to have the $18 desserts (with 12 types of desserts or so in small portions) because it was limited. So I ordered the Grapefruit Brûlée instead. I have to say it was amazing!! Very unique in a combination of sweet with a little sour and bitter. Also have a try of the Japanese wine. Cannot remember the name but it's the one with notes saying "green apple, aromatic, sharp finish". I loved it! Definitely will come back another time! Wanna try everything in the menu! read more

Good Food, Service and ambiance. Higher priced Restaurant

Came here to celebrate my birthday with a really large group. Had 3 tables in the patio area. Food was great but service was really slow. Each table ordered separately so not sure why food took so long. We ordered a chirashi bowl, beef tendon appetizer and an aburi omakase set and a uni cream and crab udon. The bowl was fresh and full of toppings. Also had a bowl of miso soup. My husband loved it and said it was very well balanced in flavour and textures. The beef appetizer was really nice! Super tender beef in a very nice broth with an onsen egg set upon some soft tofu. The aburi sushi set was very nicely done. Not exactly sure which was what but there was salmon and tuna and unagi. Wish the server would have told us exactly what it was when she served it. The udon took a very long time to come. When it came it was served in a chilled bowl which cooled the udon very quickly. I didn't enjoy it all that much. The uni cream was very light and the crab bits were very flaky. Since it cooled so fast it got a little fishy towards the end. We ordered everything off the specials menu so next time maybe we'll order stuff off the regular menu. read more

I enjoyed my time at Raisu! We ordered the "wagyu" udon, chicken oyako katsu set, oceans offering and chefs special aburi sushi. The wagyu udon was delicious. The presentation was neat as they first brought the bowl of udon, and then poured the broth at the table. The flavor of the broth was phenomenal. The chicken oyako don was also great too. Keep in mind, if you're looking for a crispy katsu, you're better off ordering one of the other katsu sets. The oyako don had a lovely egg omelete incorporated into it that was soft and full of flavor. As for the oceans offering, there are only 10 of these made per lunch and dinner. So come early if you wamt to try one of these! There were 12 different compact boxes of tasty sushi. Some of them were quite memorable, but a couple of them were just average. The omakase aburi was good. However, I still prefer places like Green Leaf for their aburi flavours. We came for a birthday, and they presented a dessert on the house after singing happy birthday. That was a nice touch. The dessert was flavourful too. It was almond tofu which had a nice orange layer on top. Would recommend coming back! read more

Probably the best of the kingyo/rajio/suika crew. Best atmosphere and interior decor for sure. The centre bar was so modern and appealing. The waitresses glided and served effortlessly in the middle while the U-shaped centre bar was topped by mesmerizing alcohol bottles. There's a patio, some korean-style seated tables, and the bathroom had the mOst adorable cabinet of disposable toiletries! ! On to the food. Sashimi was pretty average, and I had the wagyu hamburger steak. I actually mistook it for actual wagyu steak which is why I ordered it, but it was surprisingly good. guys, let me tell you that this place exceeded all my expectations. truly deserving of a 5 star plus rating. from service to presentation to taste. it is worthy of iron chef cuisine! what sets them apart is the attention to every detail of your dining experience. service was efficient, the kitchen brigade working with pride, the food...excellent! no other words to describe it. ordered the sashimi bowl, tonkatsu set meal, wagyu beef udon noodle soup, and the aburi sushi. sashimi was very fresh. you can literally taste the sea. well presented. every piece melted in your mouth. the tonkatsu....to me, this is tonkatus 2.0! what stands out is the quality of the pork used here. clearly it is of higher caliber, grass and corn fed like the wagyu....despite being fried with panko...one bite and it melted in your mouth with an added crunch. the set even came with a mortar and pastel for you to grind the spices to make the sauce on your table. even the radish and vegs came with their own signature vinigarette dipling sauce. combined with the soft texture of the rice..wow..i was transported to japan! absolutely the highest quality ive ever had in my life. words cannot describe it. it has to be tasted to give it justice. the wagyu beef udon also was a winner. thinky slice beef came raw on too of scallions and udon noodles in a bowl. then the server pours hot shabu soup around it slowly and gently cooking the beef to perfection. the result...bam! tender and succulent perfectly cooked wagyu beef that melted in your mouth...complemented by the sweet shabu soup base...wow! the aburi sushi block was likewise was amazing! the special of the day was salmon. each a uri piece was decorated so fine and delicately with stuff like roe , pickled cucumber etc...each bit presented a diff taste combination. the saltiness of the roe accentuated the salmon and rice even more. simply magnificent! what a great experience! each dish was so unique and excellent, it made me feel like i was in japan having such good quality japanese food. servers were always smiling, attentive, and answered every question with pride. yes, im already making plans to go back and try the other stuff like wagyu hamburg etc...cant wait. happy eating! read more

I'm not often on the west side however having been to Suika and Kingyo many times and had great service and even better food, I had to check out Raisu. I recommend booking an appointment well in advance and go earlier than later as we missed out on their bento box. Very similar to their sister restaurants, I felt quite at home. I started off with ordering their raisu moscow mule. For food, we decided to order their special for the night; king crab and uni bibimbap, followed by their deluxe seafood plate and omakase sushi for the night which was tuna. Everything was very oishi! I would definitely come back again and try to book a resp for their patio next time. read more

Just break that piggy bank and order the deluxe seafood bowl. How often will you eat sashimi with gold glitter on top? Like really? Uh... Isn't that too much? Why doesn't gold have more flavor? I probably would have preferred roasted sesame seed or nori flakes instead. Super long wait to just get seats (25 minutes). Do make reservations instead. Then a super long wait to get food (35 minutes). Do make sure to order some appies or tea to make the wait more bearable. Or come right when they open at 11:30am. During weekdays, they are now open continuously from 11:30am to 10pm. On weekends, they are still closed between 2:30pm - 5:30pm. I think the long waits make the food taste better because we were so hungry by then. The seafood udon was just average. The lunchboxes are the way to go. read more

Obsessed, missed out on the sho ka do, pro tip, you can call ahead and reserve it for the day. Miraculously, I was able to get the oceans offering. I feel like there is a ton of gripe on here about the price, but Coming from Chicago this is not only a steal but an insane value for the freshness and work that went into preparing it, it also is a filling meal, and comes with miso soup. Aburi and deluxe chirashi were also tasted. 100% go here, there is so much good stuff on the menu. The crab stone bowl looked so good, (someone got it next to us) can't wait to get back here. read more

Went for lunch and got the lunch special. I chose the daily fried food (croquette) and grilled fish (mackerel) and my friends and I also shared the wagyu shabu udon. The lunch set came with miso soup, rice, salad, and some small cold side dishes. For dessert I tried the matcha swiss roll with red bean filling. Everything was delicious and I was stuffed by the time the meal was over. The croquettes were crispy and not greasy, grilled mackerel is one of my favourite dishes so no complaints there. The wagyu beef was tender and the udon chewy. Overall it was an amazing meal! I wish I got to try their 9 box special but there's only 32 offered a day. I believe it's possible to call ahead to reserve one in advance. read more

The deluxe seafood bowl is a must get. The Ocean's Offering pressed sushi box was alright - pretty for pictures but I wouldn't get it again. Would get the aburi instead. I like the environment, especially the bottles of sake surrounding the square bar, illuminated. Very friendly staff who sing for people's birthdays, so prepare for loud orders and that Kingyo Spirit. The duck was really good as well, and we'd get along with the seafood tartare again. read more

Hands down one of my favorite restaurants!!! Came here for the first time during my trip to Vancouver from Seattle. Raisu was conveniently down the street from the Airbnb I was at. The food was so good I came here twice during my visit! First visit, ordered the hamburg teishoku and creamy udon. Both were so tasty with nice balance of flavors. Second visit we ordered the katsu trio and OMG it was the best katsu ever. The trio comes with a pork, chopped beef, and shrimp katsu. The beef is wagyu so it just melts in your mouth. I wish I didn't live so far away, or i'd come here all the time! Can't wait to come back for more~ read more
