After visiting Kingyo last year, we were searching another unique Japanese restaurant in Vancouver, and one of items at Raisu's menu caught my attention: Wagyu Beef Hamburg Teishoku. Japanese Hamburg steak is very similar to Chinese Lion's head pork meatballs or Italian meatballs. Raisu's Hamburg steak is very moist, juicy, chewy texture glazed with their special sauce, some vegetable, sweet onion with Tonkatsu sauce and black pepper. The rich sauce (their special sauce), adds another of wonderful and unique flavor to already perfect beef Hamburg steak. Even a picky eater like me can't say NO to such delicious Hamburg steak. We also ordered Jumbo EBI Mayo which is very flavorful and tasty. The size of shrimp is between super colossal and extra colossal (yes, this is the size of EBI supposed to be ), and deep fried. Crispy and airy flakes gives a nice crunchy texture to inside juicy ender shrimp. Their chili mayo kick up flavors, both sweet and spicy. I have to say Raisu does better job than Kingyo on Jumbo EBI Mayo. Mixed Cutlet set is way to dry and Free Range Chicken Karaage is just ok. read more

Great little spot! It is a wonderful ambiance for a sunny afternoon. The service was very courteous and polite although we did have to flag down someone to order food. After that though, they were super attentive. Unfortunately the bento was sold out by the time we arrived. We ordered the pork katsu and the deluxe seafood bowl. The Katsu was amazingly tender and moist and the deluxe seafood bowl was awesomely fresh and there was a huge variety of different types of sashimi to choose from. The rice is a treat too! Will be back for sure to try to more! read more

Every time I review Raisu, my rating goes down. I don't think I will be attempting Raisu again; no point in dropping it down to 1 Star. I ordered the blue fin toro bowl off Uber eats, with a miso soup and soufflé cheesecake. Very disappointed with the bowl. The picture advertised 2 spot prawns and it was noted specifically that if uni was not available, we'd get extra spot prawns as replacement. I got one spot prawn. I was sharing this with my partner and I just gave it to him because it felt too pitiful to share a bite. Also there were hardly any crab meat (partner read this and exclaimed "there was crab meat?!"), and at least for me, the blue fin toro was fishy. My partner did enjoy the blue fin toro, but I pretty much did not eat any of this $48 bowl. I also ordered a soufflé cheesecake. The portion is dismal for $8 and didn't even come with the whip cream and chocolate piece as it was shown in pictures. I know COVID is tough, but for the kind of prices they're charging it's a tough pill to swallow when I see this kind of carelessness in terms of portion and presentation. read more

My friend and I came to the restaurant with a reservation on a weekday night, and we were seated immediately once walking in. The restaurant has a very small store front, and can be easily overlooked if walking by too quickly. The entrance takes you up a flight of steps, to a very nice, Japanese-themed restaurant with a bar in the middle. After seeing all the amazing pictures of the food, we both opted for the deluxe seafood bowl, which was one of the most luxurious chirachi bowls I have yet to have. When it arrives at the table, it honestly looks like a seafood, sashimi dream, filled to the top with an assortment of fishes and even uni with gold flakes (talk about fancy!). From first bite, the fish was very good and fresh, and I especially like the salmon. However, the hamachi and yellowtail sashimi was decent, but not the most tender or fatty I have had. The sushi rice was well seasoned and warm, but it was pretty difficult to access, since it was covered by a huge clam shell. They also brought us miso soup, which tasted very authentic with fresh miso paste. The deluxe seafood bowl was about $30, and it was well worth the price! The portions are huge and it is enough to get you stuffed. Other popular items were the bento (which I hear you must come early for since there is a limited amount of them) and the snow crab udon, which comes in a huge ceramic bowl. I would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant, but be sure to ask for a reservation! read more

I went here today and I ordered the Sizzling stone beef steak. On the menu it said that it comes with a buttered fried rice. When I got my order there was just a plane rice no fried rice at all and also it did not mentioned that there is a shrimp! Good thing I dont have any allergy but when I told the server about it she just starring at me! This is a bad customer service experience! read more

Our second visit last Sunday was not as impressive as our first time. It seems they do not check the quality of beer they serve so when the server brought stale IPA beer it smelled and tasted like sh##. When I asked to check what went wrong she just came back later with a new one without explaining what really happened. Although she whispered she was sorry we didnt feel that she (and they) really meant she was (or they were). Uni cream udon was tasty but the ocean assortment of pressed sushi had too much rice and it was dry and flavorless as it was premade before order. read more

I came to Raisu on a Monday and was one of the lucky 10 to try the OCEANS OFFERINGS. Each pressed sushi was beautifully made and had its own distinct topping combination. I was impressed by the yellow fish eggs that had a taste of yuzu paired with the tuna pressed sushi. The offerings I could recall and identify from my photos were scallop, Atlantic salmon, tuna, torched salmon, unagi, snow crab and mackerel. My sushi came with unlimited miso soup. At first, I thought I would still be hungry after the sushi but when you combine delicious miso soup with radish shavings and 12 pieces rice, I was STUFFED. Also, I tried their TONKATSU TEISHOKU meal set. I was impressed at how crispy the exterior of the pork was and how it was extremely tender on the inside. The pork meal set came with unlimited miso soup, rice and even cabbage! The pork was larger than the size of my hand and I loved the interactive element of grinding my own sesame. When the sesame got stuck in the mortar and pestle, I poured some miso soup into the mortar to loosen the sesame seeds and drank it. No food waste allowed!! read more

We went to Kingyo before and had an excellent experience there. But it was so busy that we wanted to try the sister sushi resto at Kitsilano. We thought we would have a better chance of ordering the limited bento. We got 2 of the bento boxes, a deluxe sushi bowl, and tonkatsu. I was trying to remember the name of the other item I wanted to get, but forgot to order it. Everything was excellent! The service was great, the interiors beautiful, toilets are clean, and I really like the tables by the balcony. I would love to come back and try other things. read more

I've been to almost all the other restaurants under the same chain and this was the only one I had not yet tried. I paid a visit to Vancouver recently so had to try this after so hearing so many good things about it! We had a group of 5 so made reservations to make sure we would be able to get a seat for dinner. This place seems to get really busy and we wanted to try some of the limited items so we made sure to go a bit earlier. We ordered a bunch of stuff to share as a group so we can taste a little bit of everything. Deluxe Seafood Bowl - The bowl came with an array of sashimi, rice on the bottom and a bowl of miso soup. The presentation was beautiful. The every single piece of sashimi was so fresh and sweet. It is a bit pricey but you definitely do get a very good variety of sashimi. Seafood "Donabe takikomi" Rice - Very flavourful rice, served in the Japanese clay pot. Overall I liked the seafoody flavour of the crab in the rice but it didn't really stand out that much so I wouldn't order again given its price. Milky Sily Mentaiko Udon - One of my favourite dishes, the udon was nice and chewy and the flavour of the soupy sauce was so rich and creamy. Loved the seafood flavours in the soupy sauce. It nicely coated the udon. We also ordered some sides like the edamame, chicken wings, chicken karaage and the grilled squid to share. Every item was good and I honestly had no complaints! I loved the food and atmosphere! Great place to eat and drink with friends. I would highly recommend it and would definitely go back again! read more

First time here and it was a great experience! Reservations is recommended. Also for lunch or dinner, would recommend in reserving their limited bento boxes. The outside sheltered booth with heated vents and cover for your legs was unique and smart thinking for chilly evenings We had the following - Sho Ka Do Bento (limited availability) - very good Jumbo Ebi Mayo - prawns were HUGE!! 16oz Sapporo beer - always good to have Plum Wine Sangria - did not taste much alcohol Wagyu Beef Shabu Shabu Udon - Wagyu is to die for, so good that we made another order for our daughter Chicken karaage - crispy and crunchy but moist too Wagyu Beef Hamburg Teishoku - soft and delicious Deluxe Seafood Bowl - was awesome and fresh! Soufflé Cheesecake - fluffy and light Almond Tofu for dessert - kids loved it so much I didn't get to have any Would recommend to others to go here read more

Amazing Japanese restaurant in Kitslano! Food: We got the Vegetarian ramen (it came in a very large bowl) which was delicious and the sashimi salad - highly recommend and Brussels sprouts which was also quite delicious! For desert we got the matcha sponge which was delicious! Atmosphere: This restaurant has such a unique and beautiful seating that's separated into three sections. It has more of a formal sophisticated vibe but with the same lively Japanese spirit. All in all, would highly recommend and I would definitely come back! read more

Vancouver sushi does not disappoint. Both the food and the service are great. We got the sea food deluxe bowl and it's fresh, delicious, and filling. The aburi omakase sushi and the blue fin tuna are also very delicious. I would have loved to see more nigiris on the menu but certainly have no complaints about the food we got. From the moment you step through @raisu2340's front door noren and up their rustic wooden stair case, you are temporarily teleported to Japan for your meal. Every item on the menu is presented with the care and an attention to detail that you would expect when you are eating in Japan. For this visit, we had their Sho Ka Do Bento, which is a selection of 9 different smaller dishes. This is limited to 15 servings for dinner and lunch, so make sure to come early and make a reservation, as seating is also limited! We also had their lunch special, which gave you a choice of a variety of items from their daily selection. It's pretty good value as their servings are quite generous. For today, we picked the Pork & Tofu with Sashimi. Thank you @raisu2340 for taking is back to Japan for an hour today! read more

The service was truly Japanese at heart - everything was pristine and clean, the staff was courteous and helpful. Definitely a must-go. read more

Wanted to check out Raisu for its stunning lunch boxes but unfortunately they were all sold out (that just shows how popular they are)! BUT, that did not affect my experience at all because everything else we ordered was amazing as well! For appetizer, the waitress recommended the jumbo Ebi mayo, aka tiger prawns tempura with chili mayo, and I could not thank her enough!! Hands-down the best fried tiger prawns I have ever had - the batter was super light & crispy, the prawn itself was extremely fresh & plump, and the chili mayo was creamy and tangy with a bit of a kick. Plus, have you seen the size of the prawns? They were the biggest prawns I have ever had the honor to get my hands on. Amazing appetizer! For entree, got the deluxe seafood bowl and the mixed cutlet teishoku. They were phenomenally generous with the amount of fresh sashimis on the deluxe seafood bowl: fresh uni (sea urchin), scallops, sweet shrimps, snow crab, ahi tuna just to name a few. The presentation of the bowl was gorgeous and left me in awe for at least 3 minutes. You can tell right away that the seafoods were very fresh because you can taste the mild sweetness from the seafood itself without any condiments. Everything any sashimi lover would ever want and more! The mixed cutlet teishoku was very unique as well with three kinds of cutlets including minced wagyu beef, omugi pork, and black tiger prawn with chopped shrimp cutlets. Each and every single cutlets were freshly fried to have a crunchy curst and a juicy & tender middle; the batter was not too thick to ensure you can still taste the fillings. The set comes with a side salad, rice, and soup, super satisfying and filing. And of course I cannot leave Raisu (or any restaurant) without trying their desserts; got the yuzu parfait and was once again blown away. The parfait had yuzu gelato, yuzu rare cheesecake & sponge cake, plus yuzu cream on top! I love yuzu for its mellow & refreshing flavors and that's exactly what you will get with this dessert - the gelato was super light and refreshing, the rare cheesecake was heavenly where it was creamy, smooth, rich in flavor but not overwhelming. The yuzu cream just tops everything off nicely and this is just the perfect end to the whole meal. I can eat everything all over again if I could. Definitely recommend this place to everyone! read more

Spectacular! Nothing negative to say. I order take-out and did it in-advance for a 5:30PM pickup. I order loads of things - Snow Crab And Uni Cream Udon, chicken karaage, deluxe seafood bowl, omakase aburi sushi, yuzu chicken wings, and sashimi salad. Snow Crab and Uni Cream was delicious. I never had something like this before. The soup base was cream yet not over powering, the udon was al dente and not soggy. I thoroughly enjoyed this. This was for my family so 5 people and we were filled by the end of this. We didn't think we would be when we took everything out but we did manage to finish it and still feel full. One caveat though, when I went to pick up the order, there were a lot of people dining in which made me uncomfortable BUT they had the pick ups on a table for you to easily get to. read more

My go-to Japanese restaurant in Vancouver, and I never get let down! Great location, great portions and quick service. The servers are always sweet and friendly. I would recommend to make a reservation if you're planning on going during busy times (lunch or dinner on the weekends) - otherwise, they will most likely have walk-in seating around ~2-4:30 pm. Writing this review because I'm shocked at how they don't have 5 stars! Been here countless of times, and this is what I would recommend for first-time visitors. It's more than enough for 2 people to share! 1. Start off with the Corn and Brussel Sprouts Karaage ($13)! It is so delicious because it's seasoned with truffle butter and truffle salt and complements any meal. 2. You MUST order the Deluxe Seafood Bowl ($38). Generous amounts of sashimi with fresh sushi rice below - also comes with a delicious miso soup! Sometimes they add uni to the bowl if it's in season! The presentation is always amazing. 3. Snow Crab and Uni Cream Udon ($24) - First of all, the huge bowl makes the dish such an exciting experience. The soup is very creamy and the noodles are so chewy! The crab on top is a great addition. I personally don't love the texture of uni so this bowl is perfect for me. However, if you are looking for a strong uni taste, this may not be for you as it is quite mild. Overall, Raisu is one of my absolute favourites! If you're in the city for a short amount of time, you need to stop here. They also have a few sister restaurants around Vancouver - Kingyo would be my next favourite! read more

Good food but lousy service. I've been here for many times over the past years but I don't think I would ever be back again. I went with a group of six people and one was a toddler. We were sitting at the patio side of the restaurant where guests are required to take off the shoes and sit on the blanket covered seats. As we were finishing the last dish, the restaurant seater came telling us there was a large group of people coming and would want us to either move to another table or finish off quickly. We told the server that we were almost done and would like to get the bill and leave. While we were finishing up the last dish quickly and paying the bill, the restaurant seater let that big group in and people were standing beside our table as if we are not leaving. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! I talked to the seater as I left that this is not acceptable. She told us there is a 90 minute rule that NO ONE HAD MENTIONED TO US! And even so, she can let other guests to stand beside my table?! This is totally BS! If I wanted quality Japanese food, there are a lot of good Japanese restaurants in Vancouver to choose from. But Raisu is definitely not one! read more

Highlights include the wagyu beef udon, which has thinly sliced very tender beef in a flavorful broth, and the deluxe seafood bowl, which is essentially a very nice chirashi don with an eye-catching presentation. But out of the three pre-orderable items, we think only the seafood rice is really worth preordering. If you do the sho ka do and zen bentos, you're really just going for the novelty factor here. read more

Our friends recommended this restaurant to us so we decided to come for the fiancé's bday dinner. Made a reservation for Monday night and the restaurant was quite full. We ordered the Waygu beef shabu shabu udon, deluxe seafood bowl, a snack (I forgot the name) and the uji matcha cake. Even though the deluxe seafood bowl was absolutely Instagram worthy, my favourite was definitely the Waygu beef shabu shabu udon. The presentation was a bit dramatic with an oversized bowl and the server there to pour in the soup. At first I thought it was gonna be a gimmick but yo my surprise, the soup was super flavourful! I would return just for this! The uji matcha cake was my least favourite. Nothing special at all. Tasted like something I could get at T&T. Can definitely skip this dessert. Came here on a Saturday right at opening (11:30AM) so we could lock down one of those limited Sho Ka Do bentos! It definitely did not disappoint with a large variety of flavours and each dish presented in such a delicate fashion. From top to bottom (left to right): Prawn Tempura, Seared Tuna with Gomae, Tomato Sauce Meatball, Sashimi Salad, Miso Salmon, Raisu Tamago, Scallop, Fried Mushrooms & Shooter Not sure if my descriptions are completely accurate but this was what the server described to us! My favourites were the Miso Salmon, Prawn Tempura and Meatball but everything was pretty delicious. They switch out a couple of items in the bento from time to time but generally they keep it pretty consistent. We also got the AAA Beef Teishoku which had a hot stone grill so you can grill your steak to your own liking. As for drinks, we tried both the Lemon Sour and Moscow Mule. They were both really tasty but if you had to pick one, go for the Moscow Mule. Their homemade ginger ale is amazing! I wouldn't expect any less from a restaurant in the Suika/Rajio/Kingyo group so I'm glad Raisu met our expectations. We just need them to open a restaurant in Burnaby so the drive isn't so far! read more

Love this place. Came with our 7-month-old baby for a weekday lunch and everything was perfect! Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. Shokado set was beautiful and every item was delicious. The "fusion" dishes still stayed true to the traditional Japanese mix of flavours. I tried my SO's tiger prawn katsu and it was amazing too. And of course, the rice was quality rice and cooked to perfection. Miso soup - my test for Japanese restaurant authenticity - was A+. I live a 2 minute walk away from Raisu which is dangerous for my wallet because of how fantastic and delicious their food is and I can't wait to go back!! The interior is warm, homey, and modern all at the same time. Service speed is good and their staff are so warm, welcoming, and friendly. Friday at 12pm is a chill hour to go since their restaurant was only 1/2 full but later around 1 is when more people started piling in. Between the 2 of us, we got 2 things that I HIGHLY recommend if you don't mind splurging (I mean, it was Friday so we gotta treat ourselves!) ---- Deluxe Seafood Bowl and Sho Ka Do Bento ---- Both looked SO GRAND and the presentation was beautiful. The Seafood bowl is like a big chirashi bowl with 9 or maybe even more different fishes/seafood. It sits on top of a bed of sushi rice with a side of miso soup. The fish was so clean and incredibly fresh tasting and even melts in your mouth kind of feel. The Bento is served in a 3x3 compartment box, each containing some little dish and it was also SO DELICIOUS. The staff kindly explains each component to you when served. Comes with rice and miso soup - and their miso soup you can tell its not from the paste but house made and its very clean and light tasting which complimented our dishes really well. There was a sweet lime cheesecake with garlic bread in the bento - don't shy away from it because it sounds like a weird combo, but that was honestly the best cheesecake and dessert combo ive had in a long while. It was so smooth and creamy yet not heavy and the textures worked so well together. I was really impressed and glad we ended our meal with that! read more

Raisu is my go to place for great tasting food with prompt service and reasonable prices. Things that I enjoy about Raisu: -The prices are fairly competitive for the quality and amount of food that you get -Raisu goes all out on holiday decorations! - for those wanting the full cultural experience, there is an outdoor patio area with traditional tables (where you remove your shoes and sit cross legged without a chair on the mats). Reserve in advance and let them know you want the patio tables -service is always fast and friendly -wait isn't super long if you're willing to sit at the bar Things that could be improved: -last time I had the ocean's offering, the sushi rice was uncooked and a lot of it was raw -you have to come early because they have limited servings of dishes so they sell out fast on the weekend Overall one of my favourite places in Vancouver thus far.
