The food was great. I had The Beastly Burger which lives up to its name. It's a beast! I couldn't open my mouth wide enough to fit It in, which is a shocker because I am told by most that I have a big mouth (but then again, they may be referring to other things) If I wasn't in a rush to make my movie time at the AMC I probably would've spent more time there and enjoyed some drinks as well. So, this is a difficult review to write. There were a few positives to this place. The waitress was very nice. My niece loved the jungle. The animals make noises and move, she thought it was great. They have crayons and fun slurpy cups for kids. Very entertaining. However, the food took forever to come and wasn't edible. Salad was awful. Shrimp weren't good. Rice and veggies were awful. Flatbread was not a flatbread. It was like a sad microwaveable pizza. If you have to go, stick to fried shrimp or something fried. The food is terrible. Even the soup was awful. It's a fun experience for the kids. I'd suggest eating dinner before or after, maybe taking the kids for the experience and the adults have a beer or something. The food is also overpriced read more

Absolutely no idea what happened to this place. We went today and walked into the place around 2pm and left 3:30pm: we left our "food" and refused to pay. The "food" was untouched. Today my daughter is turning 3, so me and my husband took her for nice cool place for lunch. The staff was polite and sweet. But that is not enough in the restaurant business especially when there are so many cheaper and better choices within walking distance. I ordered pizza for my daughter, burger for myself, my husband sticks to fish on Fridays so he ordered shrimp. About 50 minutes later they bring microwaved and already cooled down "food" that I would never pay so much for. A slice of frozen (but recently microwaved) pizza was $7 and the manager was arguing that I am also paying for cool atmosphere. I am okay to pay for atmosphere, but please don't serve something I won't let my daughter eat. Mind you that on the menu that pizza was advertised as a round personal pizza - we got something similar to a weirdly shaped slice. Also, for some reason (actually for obvious reasons) there were no prices on the menu. My burger - $14 - cold and was about as pathetic as that pizza (maybe a 2.5 oz burger with a tiny pathetic onion ring on top). My husbands $23 shrimp was served cold, not to mention that there were total of 8 tiny shrimps. I was so upset and I didn't want to ruin my daughters birthday. What a cute place. I came to celebrate a friends sons bday and my little girl had a good time. The food was okay for little ones. They had the usual chicken fingers, pizza and Burgers. But I really enjoyed there spinach dip as well as there Rasta Pasta amazing. It was a Thursday so it was slow. Not a lot of people therefore customer service was okay. This place was pretty cool.. came here for lunch with my cousins. We had the calamari as well as the spicy chicken wings for appetizers. The appetizers took forever to come out. The calamari was cold & the chicken wings were kinda mushy & lukewarm as well. Everything was still edible but really shouldn't be served that way at a restaurant. We all had burgers as our entrees. All burgers were good.. no complaints there. We each had Bahamas mamas as our drinks & they were made really well. Not too sweet & just the perfect amount of liquor. Took my daughter here for her birthday yesterday.. While my daughter enjoyed the ambiance and theatrics of the restaurant I must say the food is terrible. This has to be the worst service I've received in my life. I came with my girlfriend and two kids. First, they sat us at a table ALL the way in the back near the bathrooms. The place was not packed at all. There were plenty of good tables available, but we got the one near the bathroom? One of the seats were wet because of a dripping pipe above. I didn't care bc we were hungry so I dismissed it. The real issue came with my 2yo got scared of the loud elephant (not their fault). I asked to be sat at another table bc he was petrified. They moved us to a new table and that was literally the last time we saw a server. We waited a solid 20 mins with that ONE PERSON coming by to even offer us water. I couldn't even make eye contact with anyone, bc nobody was looking my way, at all. We were basically invisible. Eventually a busser came by so I let him know we're not being waited and he went to get a manager. After 5 mins with no manager coming by (surprise, surprise) I was so upset we just walked out empty handed. I took my family here Easter Sunday. The hostess seated us after waiting over 1 hour in a section that was already reserved for another party. I was in the bathroom when the manager came over to inform my family of this which were all minor children whom he spoke very rude and aggressively too. Later when I asked to speak to him about the table mix-up and some issues with our food and bill. He came to speak to me and again was very rude he sided with his hostess that claimed we walked ourselves to the incorrect seating section. Came here once a few years ago. I was going to give them 3 stars for slow service and average food, but decided to give them 4 because of my recent experience. I came here yesterday on a date. The place looked busy, and I recall the host mentioning to families the wait time would be a while. However, the host suggested to my date and I that we can sit at the bar and be served immediately. Service here was much better and the guy was friendly. Our food took about 20 minutes to come out, which wasn't as bad as last time. My friend's seafood appetizer was delicious and my Caesar salad was honestly better and bigger than I expected. The frozen drinks/smoothies were delicious. I recommend the banana-pineapple-coconut drink. To avoid the long wait, I recommend just sitting at the bar area (they allow children to sit there as well!). The 4 stars are solely for the food and atmosphere. We had reservations and waited close to 20 minutes to be seated, despite the place being half empty. The food was absolutely amazing, except for the Korean stir fry. My daughter in law didn't eat the rest, it was sloppily plated and the flavor was all hot spice. Nothing special, prices a bit high. It's such a nice entertainment spot for both adults and the children. The one in Menlo Park mall is located right next to Macy's. We went on a Wednesday and it was half full. Decor is awesome love the whole jungle theme. Prices are a bit expensive considering it's a chain restaurant but the food tasted good. We ordered rasta pasta, shrimp and shittake mushroom steak, and the appetizer sampler and it was all great. It's such a fun place with good food. Our First time at Rainforest Cafe. *****Breakfast with the Easter bunny****** Be ready to wake up early to be on time and enjoy the entire experience. There's plenty of Parking since it's located in a mall outdoor strip. People start with a line even though seats are assigned seating w/ tickets. Its really a magical place for a child (a little too dark), but adventurous they have a lot of sight seeing from Elephants, monkeys hanging, anaconda greeting you at the door, a walking frog moving to sounds of the rain forest is pretty much like you are in the jungle. The ambiance was pretty cool, keep my kids entertained. They start off with Egg Hunting and then moving on to Breakfast buffet Scramble egg, Sausage, Bacon, French toast, Pancakes, cupcakes, donuts, Cereal, Bisque, Orange Juice & Coffee for us the Grown Ups ;). The kids won't eat as much as you want, but they will deff drain there energy. Cool times with the family and great friends. After that you can choose to go shopping and enjoy the day. Definitely need more garbage cans throughout, Lol but overall a good experience. read more

When I showed up it was a 2 hour wait, so my wife and I decided to sit at the bar. Of course having 2 kids they get antsy so we ordered food at the bar. While waiting the bartender Ray was very nice made sure we had every thing we needed and even joked with my children. While at the bar I noticed a pamphlet for a club so I asked Ray (the bartender) about it. He explained to me the membership and it's perks asked if I wanted it and said his manager would be out to give me my membership card. Sanjay (the manager) was very pleasant explained the membership further made sure we had everything. I went to check to see where we were in the waiting list and came back Sanjay (the manager) explained that because I had the membership I now get priority seating. So he carried out food to the table and seated us. We were checked on by a couple different waiters which was cool. The kids loves the jungle themed restaurant as we've been there before a couple times. We had the best experience out of every prior visit there not to say that the other visits weren't pleasant but Sanjay (the manager) Ray (the bartender) and other crew went out of their way to provide excellent service. The warm cheese melted in my mouth and I loved it. There is a lot of stuff. There are pasta, seafood, steak, chicken, and salad. The pasta is the yummiest pasta I have tasted in a long time. The desert is a chocolate and vanilla ice cream or Chocolate cake with gummy worms.!! You have to wait about 30 minutes for the food to get to your table. The food does not cost too much. There are 12 kids' meals and a lot of adult meals. So you have a lot to pick from. The waiters are really kind as well. I really think you should go to a rainforest cafe. This is one of those instances where I wish I could give an extra half-star, or round up to three. But I'd be lying if I said the Rainforest Cafe was A-OK, because well, it's not. It's tolerable at best, and barely at that. I can remember decades ago when they were building out the Rainforest Cafe in the Menlo Park Mall. It wasn't long after the actual mall transformation itself. I remember it being a big deal, all this construction of something big and dramatic. As it came together, you got this sense of wonder and excitement as if a little bit of Disney was making its way into sad, old Edison, New Jersey. When it finally opened, it really was a big deal. I recall the line to get in snaking all the way out into the main corridor of the mall. What seemed like hundreds of adults and screaming kids, all waiting to be corralled into its cavernous lair to dine on cute-sounding dishes like the Flying Dragon Pepperoni Flatbread or the Lava Nachos -- the latter of which sounds more descriptive of what comes out *after* you eat here. But of course, the kids love it. And that's the only reason the Rainforest Cafe continues to exist. In fact, should you ever dine here and discover other grown adults eating here without children, please make a citizen's arrest immediately and escort them off the planet. My wife and I survive trips here by ordering the safer dishes you'll find on the menu. She prefers the Portabella Wrap while I typically roll the dice with the Chicken Salad Sandwich. Neither are particularly good, but it will suffice as a meal with the kids. Luckily, our trips to the Rainforest Cafe seem to have whittled down to only once a year, and with the children growing older, I expect we'll soon be able to write this place off for good. Until then, I will remain thankful that they have a bar. For when all else fails, a drink or two can easily help numb the incessant sounds of animatronic monkeys and elephants and the bratty little children who love them so. read more

I was traveling for business with a colleague and we thought it would be fun to stop in for a quick bite to eat before attending an event. The atmosphere was fun and standard for a Rainforest Cafe, the staff was decent, but holy moly, I dont think the word "quick" is in their employee handbook. Now I am not new to the restaurant business, and I know how shifts work, but at 4:30 pm, you should have a resturaunt fully staffed. When we arrived we waited a longer time than usual for the waitress to come around and ask us for our drink order, then after she dropped off our drinks and took our dinner order, we waited A HALF HOUR and still no food to be seen. And we were not the only ones waiting this long for our food. The 4-6 other tables were also getting a little frustrated waiting for the their meals. At the stroke of 31 minutes, my colleague and I got up and left. At 4:30, a kitchen should not be that backed up and your floor should be staffed with the proper amount of wait staff. Once we were seated we waited around 25 minutes before I had to ask for a waiter to come see us. Once out waiter came she was very frazzled and didn't even apologize for the wait. Her exact words were "didja guys have to wait a bit? Well my names blah blah and I'll be your server for tonight." When taking out order she seemed in a rush to leave. Once she took our order it took another 40 mins just for the appetizers to come out. Then the dinner came out literally 5 minutes after the appetizer and half of our food was cold. Visited this location today with my family. When we arrived we were asked if we had a reservation, although it was not known that we needed to make one. The hostess then advised we had to wait 1 hour & 15 minutes and took down a number to text when it was time. Before we left the area we spent sometime in the shop and noticed it was empty. We then walked away returning about 45 minutes later to find that the hostess had forgotten about the reservation. What is not clear is why the long wait when the restaurant was 90% empty. Finally when seated the server was rushing to take our orders, yet after almost a 45 minute wait for the food, the server came by to see if we were okay, if it wasn't for the child at our table asking where her food was, we would have waited longer. There was absolutely no reason to have over an hour wait when the restaurant was 90% empty. There's no reason why the server was rushing us after they made us wait so long to come in and be seated. The experience was mediocre and definitely will not be returning. Employees should be trained on customer wait time, how they speak with customers, and the most time people should wait for their meals. read more

I read the reviews here and we decided to go ahead and try it out anyway. The advice seemed to be stick to the burgers because the food is generally very weak. So we arrive. We're greeted and seated very quickly. Introductions were done very professionally and we sat down. The waitress came by with a smile and served us very well! She was extra attentive as we had a small child and was going above and beyond to make sure we were happy. So far the service is EXCELLENT. Now the drinks. We ask for a drink recommendation from the waitress and without a beat she says 'Mai Tais!' We order the mai tais and they are delicious! We are both very happy with the drinks! Now the food. AWFUL. I ordered a veggie burger and my fiance ordered a bbq bacon cheeseburger. They both came with frozen fries. The fries are OK. The burgers were both generally flavorful. The problem was the buns. They were dry and must have been a day old! We both just ate about 1/2 of our burgers and 1/2 of our fries. Now this would not have been such a big deal had this been a local place where the burgers are less than 10 bucks but... the check for the 2 of us to have 2 large mai tais and 2 burgers was plus tip, $60 dollars! Not a good deal by any stretch of the imagination. The food is ridiculously overpriced and the quality is below-par. What would I do next time? Eat somewhere else and go there just for drinks. The desserts are also ridiculously over priced. The menu showed a slice of cheesecake was 8 dollars. Not appetizing when you consider the quality and taste of the food. Let's start with the wait. The line was out the door and around the corner, but this doesn't explain my horrific experience. We ordered chips with guacamole and salsa as an appetizer. The guac was flavorless, and the salsa was extremely watered down and incredibly spicy. It was completely disgusting and from previous experience, I expected better. Now, when our entrees came, they were unacceptable. I ordered fish and chips, and when I picked up the filet, oil/grease was running down my fingers. It was completely not edible. They are using pen a paper to take order which is still ok if you can keep the orders straight which they cannot. Kids meals where ok but again pretty straight forward items. The adult orders where a nightmare. The alcoholic drinks where all incorrect and when they attempted to correct it got it wrong again and all the drink had no liquor in them. The bartender is arguing that there is when clearly there was none. Kids meals came out first which was ok. The adult came out one half and then the second half which was ok But they lost a meal along the way. The burgers where made incorrectly one was 100 percent raw it look like they put the burger on the grill for a minute. The bathrooms where a little dirty which was shocking because they just opened. First time I was at a rainforest cafe was many years ago in Disney world. From what I remember it was a fun themed restaurant that kids loved. Fast forward 15 years--my sister says let's all meet at the rainforest in Edison. Ok cool. Well where to even begin. I make a 730 reservation for 11. We show up at 7 but are not seated till 8:00. No biggie we hang at the bar. The bar area is gross. The actual bar is greasy and dirty. The floor has dirt on it and looks like it hasn't been swept in weeks. The friendly barmaid hands us drink menus they to are dirty and greasy. Off to a great start right. We all order overpriced horrible tropical drinks. Not one was any good. Finally table is ready. We order more drinks and a bunch of appetizers. 20 minutes go buy and still no drinks. Finally after asking for them they arrive at about the 25 minute mark. She asks if we are ready to order our meals so we do. 25 minutes later our meals start to arrive--wait we never got our appetizers. Omg I'm so sorry. Let me go check on that. Unreal. Finally the apps come out. Within 3 minutes of that our meals are again showing up. We just accept them and let it go. Here is what I will say about the food. Horrible. Not one dish was cooked properly and not one had any flavor. The presentation was like it was thrown on the plate. I had chicken and shrimp. The chicken was so over cooked it couldn't be eaten or even cut up. The shrimp were cold and tough. Sandra had ribs and steak. I feed my dogs better cuts of meat than what they served her. It didn't matter how you ordered your steak it came out just about well done. The ribs were dry and stale. They definitely weren't cooked the day we were there just reheated. My brother in-law also ordered ribs. Took one bite and said forget it. Just terrible. Besides being bad the amount of food they give you is actually like a kids portion. If anything was any good there wasn't enough. My sister Cheri ordered salmon and asked for it to be cooked medium. It came out well done and bite sized. Not one of the 11 dishes was enjoyed. I will say the people who work there are friendly and do there best to accommodate you but there is just something missing. Overall the place is terrible. I was really excited to come here after years to experience the nostalgia of being a kid again. Sadly, it left a lot to be desired and made me happy that as an adult I'll never choose to eat here again. One positive is that the environment is a fun one, with cool animatronics and playful decorations. Unfortunately this was the only positive to the meal. For appetizers me and my date ordered the sampler (cheese sticks, fried wontons, chicken fingers, spinach and artichoke dip). This was only around 5 PM so the place wasn't very full yet it took 30-40 minutes for the food to come out. When it came out, the chips were soggy, and the fried wontons were limp and not crispy at all. The chicken fingers tasted like they had just been defrosted and thankfully the mozzarella sticks were passable. Even though after we waited a long time and told the staff to being out the entree at the same time as the appetizer, still had to wait 15 more minutes. We shared the bbq shredded chicken wrap...which was horrible. The wrap was fried to a crisp (odd that my fried wontons were soggy by my wrap was as stif as cardboard) and the inner shredded chicken feeling was missing all aspects of flavor. To make matters worse, when we got the bill, it took another 20 minutes for our server to collect the check. We had to hunt down another server to expedite the process. All in all, this place is still great for kids. They won't be able to remember the tardy service and dispassionate food provided to them. A little over an hour later--yeah we took the time--we still haven't received our food. After 2 waiters later the manager came out and apologized to us that the food will be coming out shortly. When he makes the request to go to this restaurant, my husband and I say... "are you sure... wouldn't you rather go to [name various establishments]?" The value of the food (quality and taste): not up to what you pay for. For four of us the bill came to $200, including the tip. Would I go frequently there in future? Jessica made our night, Not the food!!! Food was ehh at best. The awesome appetizer adventure is a must, minus the eggrolls, they don't have any flavor whatsoever to them!!! The ambiance is ok I guess, without a birthday $25 coupon to offset the cost, it's a waste of money!!! The Manager was on-site and walking around all night tonight, she clearly showed she cared and apologized when things weren't done right, like forgetting to have my chicken with the beef fajitas. The chicken was added within minutes, and since I filled up on the appetizer, I now have an extra meal for tomorrow. I went here to meet friends and it was very good. The food was good and the server was attentive and accommodating. It is a great place to bring children as the last time I have been to a Rainforest Cafe was when I was 12. It is a little dim in there but definitely a fun atmosphere. read more

I know that no one is going for the food. But if the food is going to be pricey then it should be edible. And my burger was awful. I still can't get the bad taste out of my mouth. My husband had to return his $23 meal it was so gross. Then he ordered a burger and it was raw. The place is clearly going down hill. There were very few people in the restaurant. The managers (two!) who walked by asking if everything was ok seemed like they were expecting to take food back. Odd that they need two people to handle damage control in a very empty restaurant. The idea is so cute. Love the theme. But they need to change the chefs and the prices. read more
