I will be as succinct as I can be: I love - love, love, love, love - this place. Everything about it was right up my alley: farm-to-table, seasonally-appropriate food. Chefs were fun as hell and were clearly passionate about what they made. You could tell every dish had a chefs personal flair to it. On top of that, this place feels like eating at a family gathering. Would give 6 stars if I could.

Alex and Lee absolutely made our night. We were out celebrating our friends birthday and we had more fun than we knew what to do with. I've been to R Kitchen many time but this time, at the down town location, was such a pleasure. Thank you for the experience! We will be back.

Just a sample of one course prepared.

Nothing else like it. Fantastic experience with a 5 course meals prepared in front of you with local fresh foods. The chefs are fantastic and entertaining while cooking up an amazing meal. Every day changes as far as the menu. Definitely going back over and over.

Wow what a uniquely special experience from R Kitchen! A wonderful treat for foodies to partake in a surprise range of dishes. I surprised my boyfriend for his birthday dinner by making a reservation a few weeks out through texting the number on the website. They offer 6pm and 8pm time slots at their downtown and West Ashley location. They cater the menu according to what's in season and availability of produce, however, they're mindful of food allergies and dietary needs - just mention it in the text when it comes to reservations. Overall loved the nutritious meal, the flow of the evening, how they make birthday folks feel special, the kitchen setup. Great experience!

You have to have some guts and maybe "balls" You just don't know what you will get The place is super small and incredibly underinvested AND YES YOU HAVE TO SUCK IT UP AND DO IT (And no don't ask the Chef to change the music - it is their playlist and that is that) If you can sit at the counter I would do it Maybe chefs from The Bear Super interesting Maybe intriguing Jump in for a party of flavors and fun

I mean... this place take 10/10 to the next level. An intimate setting with 2 top tier chefs who presented a 5 course meal in an unassuming yet extremely charming (think season 1 of The Bear) setting. The menu (which they come up with daily!) was so delectable! Every single bite was so perfectly prepared and well thought out and (most importantly) sooo yummy and mouth watering! Genuinely cannot wait to come back and this place will be at the top of my Charleston recs going forward

Do they charge a fixed rate per person? If so, how much is it?

It's now 70 dollars plus alcohol plus tip. We love every minute of it.

How do I get in touch with this restaurant? I've called and called to try to make a reservation. The phone is either busy or no one picks up. And, I can't find an email.

There was a button on Yelp make reservation and they called us back and we made reservations 2 months out

How do you book with them? I've tried calling them a couple of times and it's always busy and really wanted to go with my hubby tomorrow :(

They book weeks in advance. No way for tomorrow. Sorry

The food looks amazing! I'm worried that I won't be able to sample all the amazing dishes for the night (due to gastric surgery) are we allowed to take what we don't finish home?

Should I sit outside at the downtown location or inside at the chef's counter at the West Ashley location? Those are my two choices.

Definitely inside at Chef's counter. It is quite an experience! :)

Would this place accommodate a large group?

Yes, but I would definitely call in advance. We had a group of twenty one night during a convention and called about an hour before on a week night. I have also been there when there where wedding rehearsal dinners with big groups.

    Says CLOSED 6-11 pm?

It says "Closed Now" because they don't open until 6PM. I think you're just misreading it. They are open from 6PM to 11PM. If you'd like to speak to anyone there though I would suggest calling during the day because once they start service, they are… Read more

Although some dishes are seasonal, these happen to be entrees that are served year-round according to our server Both were quite delicious. The vegetarian plate had a wide variety of veggies -- from mashed potatoes, to wilted spinach, asparagus, green beans, and fried tomato's. There were only two medium pieces of fried tomato so I do wish they put more in the plate but oh well. My partner loved his bouillabaisse and apparently it's the southern rendition of a French dish that is one of their most popular dishes. It has lots of seafood in it. The meal also came with complimentary warm bread, which was nice. The pecan pie was very good, but the crust was kind of hard and there were fewer pecans than I'm used to and more caramel. The ambiance is more formal but people were dressed mostly casual (and chic if I might add). Dim lighting and if you don't want as much noise to carry I would ask for seating in the back because it's noticeably louder in the front. Overall the food is very good and prices are not as expensive for the quality. Our server was great!

We were staying at the Meeting House Inn so were able to easily and leisurely walk to lunch and dinner. Service was excellent, true Southern hospitality, and the restaurant is adorable. Food was amazing, each of the four of us loved our dish and tasted each others as well: - shrimp and grits - 5/5, plentiful and plump shrimp with a flavorful sauce over creamy grits. This was not my dish so I only got a taste and next time we go back I'm going to get this for myself! - grilled salmon sald - 5*5, arugula, couscous, dried fruit, pine nuts, feta, lemon shallot vinaigrette (this dressing is so delicoius! I want the recipe!), two of us ordered this one and again, i got a bite and want to order this for myself next time (see the problem here?) The combination of flavors and textures was amazing. Rave reviews from all. - scallops or was it special flounder - 4/5, I can't even remember what I ordered and the fact that I cannot quite remember it but distinctly remember my friends' lunches means I did not order the right dish! It was solid but not something to write home about (or on Yelp about) - corn muffins - 5*5, i'm pretty sure the corn muffins came as the "bread" for the table and they were so yummy! We got there just before 6 PM, and although the restaurant was pretty full, they told us they'd try to seat us outside due to our party size. That worked perfectly since they had heaters going. They quoted us a 45-minute wait, but it ended up being closer to 15 minutes -- a great surprise. The service was seriously outstanding. I have zero complaints. Everyone was so personable and attentive. For appetizers, the beef carpaccio was my favorite. For entrées, we ordered the pork chop, tuna, duck, and lamb -- and we all shared bites. Everything was delicious. My pork chop did come out a little dry, but when I mentioned it, our waitress didn't hesitate at all. She immediately took it back and insisted on bringing a new one, making me feel completely comfortable about saying something. While I waited, she brought me a complimentary soup, which was such a thoughtful touch, and the replacement came out quickly. The manager personally brought out the new dish and waited while I cut into it to make sure it was perfect. She even came back later to check again. That level of attention to detail really stood out. To top it off, they brought out dessert and a round of champagne for the table. I wasn't drinking, and they noticed -- so they brought me a mocktail without me even asking. That kind of attentiveness is rare. The inside looked beautiful, and I'd love to sit inside next time to experience the full vibe, but outside was perfect -- not too cold, not windy, and overall just a great atmosphere. Overall, one of the best service experiences I've had in a long time. Highly recommend.

They come as a small plate with three appetizer-sized tacos, and every bite was bright, fresh, and beautifully balanced. The Buddy the Elf Burger offers a choice of a single or double patty; ours was cooked perfectly. The smoky bacon really brought everything together and gave it that extra "wow" factor. We rounded things out with the O Come, All Ye Fried Rice with Hanger Steak, which was another winner -- perfectly cooked, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. We were greeted right away by a super friendly staff, and our server was incredibly helpful. We started with the fried dough dip plate and then got the chicken bacon ranch sandwich. When we came back, my wife ordered the burger and fries again and it was dynamite all over again. Consistency like that says a lot. Everything came out quickly, tasted incredible, and the whole team was so accommodating and genuinely welcoming, creating a really family-friendly atmosphere. The vibe is awesome too. Laid-back, great music, plenty of space, and a really cool rock-and-roll garage aesthetic. You can tell the staff enjoys being there, which makes a huge difference. And I have to mention the drinks. The dirty sodas, especially the vanilla Coke, are dangerously good. The kind of thing you could absolutely get hooked on. And somehow, on top of all that, the prices are more than fair. Brace yourselves--this is going to be a long one, because this experience deserves every bit of it…read more We recently had the opportunity to do a chef's tasting at Honeysuckle Rose, and from the very first interaction, it was clear this wasn't going to be your average night out. We had a bit of a hiccup to start--we couldn't find our gift card (of course). I called and spoke with Kelleanne, and I have to say, this is truly where the experience began. She was warm, understanding, and genuinely funny, turning what could have been a stressful moment into something easy and even enjoyable. She handled everything with kindness and grace, and it set the tone for the evening ahead. A couple of days before our reservation, we received a confirmation call from James--but not the typical kind. He asked thoughtful, personal questions: who my guest would be, our water preferences (yes, really), allergies, absolute no-go foods, and even a song that held meaning to us. At that point, our curiosity was fully piqued. When we arrived, the space immediately stands out. It's very dark--blacked-out windows, black walls, black ceiling--and it's all completely intentional. Before the meal began, Kelleanne explained that the goal is to create an intimate dinner party atmosphere, where you forget the outside world and fully immerse yourself in the experience. And it works. It really works. At your seat, you're given what feels like an invitation--that's your menu for the evening. Each course is introduced by chef River and sommelier Mary Kate, adding a personal and thoughtful touch to every dish. I won't go course-by-course (we'd be here all night), but just know: every single one was worthy of praise. Chef River is absolutely crushing it. We were lucky enough to sit at the chef's counter, which I highly recommend if you can swing it. Watching chefs River, Ryan, and Trae work was like witnessing a perfectly choreographed performance. After each course, every surface was meticulously cleaned--counters wiped, stoves reset--everything returned to pristine condition before the next dish began. It was as impressive as the food itself. And it doesn't stop there. You notice Cody in the back, carefully polishing each glass and plate to perfection. Every single person on the team is fully invested in making this an extraordinary experience--and that's exactly what it is. What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail and the personal touches. Maybe you get an extra bite, a meaningful story from Mary Kate, or a surprise dessert to celebrate something special. There's an element of the unexpected that makes the evening feel uniquely yours. We left completely blown away. Not just by the food, but by the people. Kelleanne and Ryan are the kind of individuals you genuinely enjoy watching succeed--they bring something special to the entire experience. And a quick note for those who notice the details (like I do): even the bathroom is stunning--beautifully designed and just as intentional as everything else in the space. If you're looking for something truly different, immersive, and unforgettable--this is it. Don't think twice. Book the reservation. We'll absolutely be back, and we're already looking forward to exploring their other concepts.

From the call from James earlier in the week to establish preferences within our dietary…read morerestrictions to the last bit of dessert on the plate, this was a flawless experience. The space is cozy and feels both private and like you're dining in a friend's home. Each plate was exceptionally prepared with layers of flavors that brought out the elements of the dish - a true expression of local and in-season foods turned into exquisite cuisine. The menus at each place setting were a delightful keepsake and allowed us to both anticipate and follow along. I'm vegan and my husband is pescatarian and we left very pleased with the experience. If you choose the dinner paired with wine, book a rideshare as it's eight pours of wine (plus top offs) with your meal, so we were very very giggly and happy at the night's end. The bright spots were a slow dance in the kitchen when the right song came on, the candles on our anniversary sweets, and being able to chat with Sky and River (the sous chef and chef respectively) all evening at the chef's counter.
