Every single time that I am in Austin, I HAVE TO COME HERE. I don't know the neighborhoods in Austin, but it's in a very artsy part of town. I forgot what breakfast taco I get, but it has avocado, bacon, egg... and jack cheese? I top it with the spicy salsa it's soooooooo good. Everyone, please go and try it. This place is like a mini mart, but with awesome food and natural/organic drinks and snacks. I generally liked this place but I just went for the first time since covid started and their setup is not great. First, their online ordering system wasn't working. Then when I asked about it, the lady simply said "you can't order online." Yet, they're on DoorDash??? Both hand sanitizer dispensers were empty, and there were none next to the register despite the fact that they make you sign a paper with a pen - even if you use ApplePay. Food was fine. For those of us that have lived in Austin a while and grew up being here, please don't call places like this Austin-ey; they're not; they're pretentious, unfriendly and even annoying. The beer selection is nice. Have to admit I was very impressed by that. However, (groan) please don't treat your customers as if you're smarter/better/prettier/whatever than they are. Many people know Quickie Pickie as a convenience store/restaurant, but I come here almost everyday for the amazing cold brew coffee at the most reasonable price in town. I am SUPER picky about my cold brew and it never disappoints! A beautiful balance of fruity acidity and smooth caramel/chocolate. It's never watery and always complex in flavor. Their espresso-based drinks are also delicious! I also like their grab-and-go section of prepared foods, cheeses, and deli items. I'm surprised to see people have made comments about rude staff. Quickie Pickie is one of those good ol' neighborhood spots on E 11th street. I park a few blocks away for work and decided to take up one of my co-workers recommendation and went to order some tacos. Side note: When I first walked in I thought this place was super cool because they have craft beers, wine, ice cream, coffee, food, a small grocery area, a dining area, and more. It's definitely a cool place to grab a pre-made lunch or breakfast and some espresso. So I ordered the migas taco and a chorizo and egg taco. In San Antonio when migas is on the menu, it's usually just the migas and eggs, but not here! They threw in cheese and pico - lemme tell ya. It was one of the best migas tacos I've had in ATX so far. It was amazing and it hit the damn spot. Next, I munched down on my chorizo and egg taco. GUESS WHAT. They added in QUESO FRESCO. I do that at home and goodness it was delicious. They also don't SKIMP on these babies. They filled mine to the point where you almost can't close the tortillas. I ordered two tacos. Each taco was like two tacos in one. Oh, the slow roasted beef, prosciutto, pear chutney, marsala sauce....great bun...GREAT flavor combo...things put together that you wouldn't think would taste good, but works so well. I am not an Austin resident so let me tell you why I gave it 4 Stars. Star 1-location: great location from Franklins BBQ. Showed up at 8am to get in line for BBQ and this place was only about 6-7 minutes walking from Franklins. Star 2-food/coffee: they had lattes, cappuccinos and drip coffee that was very good. The tacos are a decent size and very filling. Yes, maybe a little pricey for a breakfast taco($3+ per.) but it's convenient. Star 3-Vibe: definitely had that Austin hipster feel. Whether you like that or not is up to you. Star 4-time: they were probably the only place open at walking distance from Franklins at 8 am on a Sunday. Quickie Pickie is one of those aptly named businesses. It is a cool space to pick up that little thing you forgot when you were doing your shopping, like a friendly corner store. They carry different items -- groceries, snacks, wine, beers. They even have a little food counter in the store. I liked that they had a patio area and seats inside if you wanted to hang out a bit. We were not in a hanging out mood, so we just grabbed the lighter that we needed and left after. Since the service was fast, we were in and out in a matter of minutes. We decided to try this place out. I've seen it when I drive along 11th Street but never had the chance to go until now. We went inside and it seemed a bit small. It's as thought I asked the worst, offensive question unimaginable. I had to break the shock look in her face and I ask politely, "What drinks do you have behind there?" "Well these are our coffees? If you want a soda, you have to get it on the side of the wall (refrigerator)." The tone came across as "Haven't you been here before? Obviously you haven't." I'm not a high maintenance person where I feel the employees of any given business should bow down to my feet as if I was Loki of Asgard. I must admit I went to a hipster Eastside eatery but I've been to so called "hipster" places. The majority of those places know how to be polite. The BLTX was okay but my friend did not like her chicken salad sandwich. She wasn't prepared to taste a slice of dry chicken with mustard on it. If you love that crowd, then wax up your Rollie Fingers mustache and head down there after your old timey workout including lifting that barbell that bends with the balls on it. The service is casual but friendly. It feels like they're still working out some of the minor details, but the basics are thoughtfully appointed. The seating area's minimal, bright, and beautiful. No complaints (!!!) on my brunch cortado. Their green iced tea's pleasantly floral and alarmingly good. The breakfast tacos are substantial, with quality fillings and fresh salsa, though the tortillas on the ones I tried were a little on the dry side. I had the sandwich with eggplant spread and it had a lot of good things going on. I also tried the lentil salad, which I'd get again. I brought home blood orange San Pelligrino and New Belgium pluot ale, so the aftermath of today's visit's just as positive as being there. read more

Be prepared to pay San Francisco prices when you step inside. 8 dollar pints of gelato, 6 dollar bottles of OJ, 12 dollar 4 packs of ginger beer and I promise this list is inexhaustible. You should be in a hurry or lazier than Garfield if you choose to shop here; most times I'll take the extra time to drive to a grocery store so I can keep my arm & leg. A noted plus is their extensive beer menu and in house food. These items have your typical bar / restaurant markup so the experience is far less painful. Throw in the fact that the food is pretty tasty and you've got the makings of a neat local watering hole. As long as you stick to this right half of the store you're doing good. read more

I work nearby and so have been able to frequent this spot for a meal 3 times already. First visit: expensive pork sandwich with dry pork, very tough prosciutto, and overall very dry. I called and told the manager, who while very grateful for the feedback, offered nothing in terms of a future sandwich on the house. Second visit: an egg salad sandwich which was certainly not bland, and while I like my food well seasoned, it seemed like the salt and pepper was overpowering on it. What appeared to be an owner or manager sat at a table nearby eating the same thing, and so maybe that is how they like it?? Third visit: at breakfast... ordered a bacon-egg-cheese taco and a bean-egg-cheese taco (both straight off the menu). The register printer was broken and so the person taking the order scratched something on a ticket and called it out (correctly) and hung it up for the cooks. Somehow that resulted in me receiving a bag of tacos that, when opened a few minutes later at work, contained two bean and cheese tacos. So not one taco that I actually ordered. My other critique of the place is that when you enter (esp. for the first time), it's not extremely clear where to order food and where to buy groceries - it's somewhat clear but the staffing at the two spots is inconsistent, and workers have seemed flustered more than once when I have asked who could help me check out. The place certainly has a cool, upbeat atmosphere but quality of food and execution of service is lacking. I am surprised at the overwhelmingly strong reviews so far; I work with and know others who have already been several times and are giving it very lackluster feedback as well both in the food and execution. However, I am VERY hopeful their performance will improve as the east side is in desperate need of something like this!! read more

I have to love this place for introducing me to my favorite local hot sauce: Yellowbird Sauce. If you don't know what this is, you are now officially welcome. If you like sriracha sauce, this is about 1,000 times better. AND LOCAL!! They have bombass sandwiches and promote local Austin businesses, which makes me coming back here time and time again. Their outdoor patio is always bumpin' and is dog friendly. I have tried a few of their sandwiches and you really can't go wrong with that or their salads. So very Austin-y. Equally set up to eat in or take out. More on each of those in a second. Cool outdoor patio area that seems to be full when the weather is nice. However, the prices are high. Especially on the "grocery" goods. Higher than Whole Foods for sure. Even less cool is the fact that much of the stuff isn't marked with a price tag, so you never know what you're gonna get when they scan that (bag of coffee, hummus, bag of chips) at the register. An entire wall of wine, most of it in the $15+ range. Even more beer than wine--a pretty impressive selection and almost all of it is already cold. You won't find Miller Lite here. The prepared foods menu is small, but mighty. A handful of items for breakfast, daytime and later at night. There's also a cold case with prepared salads and sandwiches for those who don't wish to wait for freshly-made. The coffee (Counter Culture) is good, fresh and strong. read more

I am completely gobsmacked by the way I was treated at Quickie Pickie today. As an East Austin resident, Quickie Pickie has been the go-to spot for last minute groceries, a bottle of wine, the basics, and they've always been awesome. My husband enjoys socializing with his buddies on the patio. What could be more warm & welcoming than that?! While meeting up with my husband tonight, I decided to grab a bottle of wine, pay the corkage fee and request 2 glasses (clearly intending for my husband to join me) when the cashier very rudely informed me that if I planned to take bottle off the premise that had to order food. Um, OK. I've enjoyed several bottles of wine on their patio without such a warning and certainly without such attitude, but whatever. Sat outside, wandered toward hubby, and there she was again demanding that I wasn't allowed to leave with the wine unless I ordered food. I pointed out that I'd had one glass and wasn't going anywhere-- chill out! Then came the "woah, what's with your attitude, I don't know what your problem is lady..." Anyone who knows me can tell you that I'm a very nice, tolerant girl. I'm kind to everyone, especially those in the service industry (been there, I totally feel ya).
