    4. VUA Bun Oc Rieu KING Crab Noodle
    Elena N.

3.5 STARS Date: Saturday, October 5th, 2024 Time: around 3:30pm Party of: 2 Meal: Lunch 4. VUA Bun Oc Rieu KING Crab Noodle I was going to have lunch with a friend and he suggested coming here. I've never been to Grand Century, so I figured why not?! He knows I adore checking out new spots. We explored a few places at their food court, so only grabbed a bowl of noodle soup. I was going go pay with a CC, but they seem to prefer cash, so my friend paid since he had cash. As a result, I have no idea how much this bowl was. Flavor wise, I like my noodle soups spicy, so I wish they gave us more hot sauce. I sent my friend up to ask for more since he speaks Vietnamese. He came back with a little sauce container of hot sauce and what I think was shrimp paste. At least I got that lovely fermented flavor. I just wished it had more spice to cut into it. The size of the bowl was plenty. We couldn't even finish it. And they gave us a good amount of veggies to add. Glad I tried this spot out. Tho next time, I may need to bring my own hot sauces. Vietnamese; no english, can get by. Order by number. Vast array of beef and chicken combos. Ordered Lemongrass chicken, 2 thighs, cucumber and lettuce salad, rice, and soup. $18.00. Cash only. ATM there which serves all the stalls. Most are cash only. All the stalls are owner operated. Extensive menu selection in all the stalls. Closer to home style cooking than free standing restaurants. Soup tasted like mix between canned broth with green onion, maybe cilantro. Light, salty. Chicken thigh marinated in fish sauce and grilled to caramelize parts of it. Not dry because of fat in thigh. Very salty. Couldn't finish. Too salty with the salty chicken broth. Soup bowls better. Not a repeat order for me. Salty soup with salty chicken was salt overload.

Incredibly delicious. Came all the way from southern CA and it was worth the trip. Food was hit and fresh. Fish was cooked to perfection. Definitely a 5 star meal. It was very affordable also.

Okaaaaaaaaayyyy, Quan Ngon!! I see you!!! I'm not sure why it took me this long to actually give you guys a go but I'm glad I finally did. My family and I decided on trying out Grand Century's food court for lunch and after a brief walkthrough, Quan Ngon seemed like the best option. The menu is pretty extensive with about 30 different options. Pictures are clearly posted against the wall but be advised that they do not contain any pricing. Lunch for the day consisted of bun mam [fermented fish noodle soup] & pho bo [beef noodle soup]. Food took a bit of time but I'm not complaining if that means fresh made foods. Each order came fully equipped with fresh herbs & condiments for extra flavoring/dipping. Both broths were good but the bun man was the better of the two. The noodles were cooked well and didn't become mush as the meal continued. 4 stars. I wouldn't mind grabbing lunch here again and with the number of options to choose from, you couldn't possibly get bored.

This food stall is located in the Grand Century Mall food court. I've passed by these guys hundreds of times but have never ordered anything from this stall -- I think largely because I have never heard positive reviews about them. I ordered #1 on the menu which is the Banh Khot Saigon translated as 'Little Saigon Mini Savory Pancakes' -- and it came with a side of lettuce, cilantro, herbs, and fish sauce for dipping. My date ordered the Com Bo Loc Lac (#29) which is their version of shaken beef paired with tomato rice and pickled veggies. I'll save y'all from the underwhelming details but my order (#1) came out about 5 minutes after ordering, and my date's order (#29) came out about 45 minutes later. I know it was because we were dining there on Lunar New Year weekend, but come on -- my dish was completely cold by the time the rice plate came out. Yes, we honor the rule of 'no one eats at the table until everyone has their meal' -- old school but it works for us. Anyway, there needs to be a better system for dishes on a single order to come out of the kitchen about the same time, or at least plus or minus 5 minutes. Also, I know times are tough but charging for a ToGo box after having your guest wait nearly one hour for one of the dishes was no way to create customer loyalty (and she was very unpleasant about it when we asked even though she applied an unexpected surcharge). Finally, the entire menu board has no prices next to each item. That tells me they can upcharge when they think they can get away with it because there is no transparency -- and no published prices for customers to reference. It's a 2.5 star experience for me. P.S. cash only. Even though their register has all the major credit card symbols, they only accept cash.

I have eaten at this Quan Ngon inside Grand Century Mall a couple of times now. I enjoyed the large portions sizes and prices are pretty decent. The Food here are also pretty good as well to my liking. They offers some of my favorites that includes: Hot and Spicy Udon Soup(Bun Bo Hue), King Crab Noodle(Bun Oc Rieu), Beef, Chicken, and Oxtail Pho Noodle Soups, Beef/Chicken Vietnamese Salad, Wonton Noodle, Shaken Beef with Tomato Red Rice, Bun Mam( Fermented Fish Noodle Soup, and many more!! Looking forward to try other items on the menu!! July,2024summertime

#20 grilled pork chops with Chinese sausage over rice

After getting coffee across the plaza at Lacaphe, we decided to visit little Saigon inside of Grand century mall. This place still look the same and of course we had to visit their food court. On a Sunday afternoon, I'm surprised the area wasn't as pack. We end up eating here and decided to order 2 things. The pork chops over rice (comes with a side of soup if you dine in) and of course their banh khot. The pork chops were a little fatty compare to other places and a little salty for my taste. However, the banh khot on the other hand were delicious and the amount of herbs made the overall dish better. The owner was sweet and she gave us a couple free drinks. I would come back for their banh khot but will pass on the chops.

4.5-4.6 stars for food court foods. Although cash only, this place inside the food court makes the best authentic foods here. Great wide menu selections and quick service. Highly rated. If they ever accept cash, I will rate them a 5. Takes about 10-12 minutes to get your order when they are busy with others. Comfortable tables & chairs everywhere. No stress. Not many customers since pandemic during weekdays. This is my 5th time coming here in the past 15 years, and they haven't failed me. Yes, bring cash please. Note, not all restaurants are open on weekdays, compared to weekends here. Got my lemongrass chicken plate fix. Portions too generous. It was a plate that can make 2-3 people feel very full if shared. Comes with the lemongrass chicken pieces, cucumber lettuce salad, fully cooked egg, vinaigrette, soup, rice, and salted mustard greens in your tray. Very full! Loved the little dish, tray, and bowl. You get real fork, spoon, and knife for dining in. Not plastic utensils like most other places these days. Foods tasted excellent. Not dry. Last time, I had the huge Bun Bo Hue which was also very generous too. Including the can of coconut drink, I only paid $20 cash. Not bad at all. That's everything included into the price, taxes included. Must love cash businesses if they are very good. Inflation dollars well spent. Feeds a few. Yes, I do plan to keep coming back if in the area. Absolutely delicious.

Delicious meal! Large portions and generous amount of veggies that are fresh and go along your meal. They're cash only! The staff was nice. We couldn't finish the banh knot, so we asked for a to-go box (they charged 50 cents), but when I heated it in the microwave at home, literally was still crispy and tasted like it was just made. Would definitely go back!

#1 Bánh Khọt Saigon: Mini Shrimp Pancakes | 8 pc - $12.50 (CASH ONLY!)
    Cherylynn N.

4.5 STARS That awkward moment... When you're the only customer standing there waiting to order... The staff looks at each other, says something in their native language... Looks at YOU...exchanges a few more words. Looks at YOU again, then starts giggling. Ummm... Then, you think to yourself... OMG, do I have a BOOGER hanging out of my nose? Oh wait, I have my mask on. *Phew* Not sure what was so funny but damn, they make hella good Bánh Khọt! I was actually looking for Quán Huế but realized I was in the wrong food court. Opps. What the hell, I'm here anyways so decided to try Quán Ngon. Yes, it's inside a food court in a dated mall (Grand Century) with a bunch of OGs smoking outside but don't let that deter you. Some of the best grub is in the hood. The staff here doesn't wear masks and/or wears it as a chin guard. M E N U Picture menu with numbers which makes it easier to order (about 30 items): from mainstream pho to bún bò huế (spicy beef noodle soup) and bún mắm (fermented fish noodle soup). CASH ONLY. BUT, they're on DoorDash so you can place a pick-up or delivery order. F O O D * Bánh Khọt Saigon: Vietnamese Mini Savory Pancakes (8 pc - $12.50): https://bit.ly/3bYbuiS ***Served with a side of fresh romaine lettuce, perilla leaves, rau ram (Viet coriander), mint, and cilantro. I think they forgot the pickled carrots and daikon. ***Vegetarian version available with mung beans instead of shrimp. The bánh khọt are like mini cupcake versions of bánh xèo (Viet pancake). They were hot and deliciously crunchy on the outside with a moist, custardy center. Love the delicate crispy edges. Light coconut flavor and it's topped with a firm piece of shrimp (properly de-veined). The lettuce and herbs were fresh, clean, and crisp. The accompanying nước chấm was so on-point with the perfect balance of sweet, sour, salty and spicy with some funk. It's spicier than the norm which is my preference since I always find myself adding more chili sauce. Make a bánh khọt wrap with the accompanying lettuce and herbs, and dip it into the nước chấm (fish dipping sauce)...and enjoy ALL the contrasting textures and flavors. HELLA GOOD. S E R V I C E The bánh khọt is made-to-order and my takeout order took 20 minutes on a quiet Friday with no line. To kill time, go to Nước Mía Ninh Kiều several stalls up for pressed-to-order sugarcane juice. A M B I A N C E Dated and dark food court (the mall was half lit) with retro swivel chairs. The seating area was open. FYI, this really isn't your typical shopping mall; they mainly sell jewelry, jerky/dried snacks, knick knacks, and dollar store stuff. P A R K I N G Easily found parking during Friday lunch but that's so not the case on weekends. It's chaotic with bad drivers who will run yo ass over if you're not careful. Overall, 4.5 stars but rounding down for their lack of mask usage. If you're in E Man Jose area getting your Viet food fix, def try Quán Ngon for their bánh khọt!

    bánh khọt
    Trung N.

Was in the area hungry and needed to kill some time.. and saw that they had bánh khọt here. I usually eat bánh xèo often and my mom makes it at home... so with a similar flavor profile, and a craving of that complex mix of herbs, lettuce, and that delicious fish sauce, I ordered it. To easily sum it up.. I personally think it is on the pricy side.. but it is a business after all.. not something you're making at home. As far as the food though... omg.. DELICIOUS!! Best place (that isn't my mom's cooking) to get some bánh khọt. They don't skimp on the lettuce and herbs... you get a lot!! And finishing my meal with some fresh sugar cane juice from Nước Mía Ninh Kiều completed a very nice lunch.

    Hot & spicy hue udon
    Kate X.

Quan Ngon has a wide variety of intriguing Vietnamese dishes, so we decided to try both the little Saigon rice cake and the hot & spicy Hue udon. This was my first time trying Vietnamese rice cakes - they were super crispy, and it was interesting topping them with a bit of fresh lettuce and herbs and dipping them in the sweet & sour sauce before eating. The hot & spicy hue udon was flavorful but wasn't actually spicy. It came with pieces of lean meat, slices of Hue pork sausage, blocks of congealed pork blood, and even a piece of pork hock. The noodles were nice and chewy and definitely very filling.

    Banh khot chay
    Vanessa N.

Overall, a solid place I wouldn't hesitate to return to. It's Vietnamese food made well. I got the banh khot chay/vegetarian banh khot ($12) and my sister got the #27, com tam ngon ($15). My banh khot chay were wonderfully crisp when I sat down to eat them after walking around the area. I appreciate how they had cut a vent into the container. The bountiful lettuce and herbs I was given were fresh and vibrant. I loved the contrast between the crisp exterior and soft mung bean paste. My sister's com tam ngon lived up to its name - it came with a bone-in pork chop, shredded pork skin (bi), cha trung, banh cong, broken rice, nuoc leo, pickled mustard greens, and cucumber slices. Everything I tried from her plate was perfectly palatable. I especially liked how peppery the cha trung was!

Between Saigon and Hanoi, I went on a full-blown bánh cuốn quest, trying different spots almost daily. Street stalls, little hole-in-the-wall shops, famous spots--you name it. At some point I stopped being a tourist and became a rice-roll inspector. So yeah... my standards are unfortunately very high now. The best bánh cuốn I had in Vietnam was paper thin and almost translucent, with this delicate chew that somehow breaks apart and melts in your mouth. That's the texture I'm chasing. Coming back here, the rice sheets were noticeably thicker and didn't have that same delicate texture. They also weren't as fresh and warm as I remembered, which makes a huge difference with bánh cuốn. This is one of those dishes that's at its best when the sheets are freshly steamed and hit your table warm. The meat filling was also underwhelming and not nearly as flavorful or savory as another bánh cuốn spot I've had in San Jose. With a dish this simple, there's nowhere to hide--the rice sheet, filling, freshness and nước mám chấm (fish sauce) all have to work together. It's certainly not bad, and I can understand why people enjoy it. But after eating my way through Saigon and Hanoi in pursuit of the perfect bánh cuốn, this one is kinda meh for me now. My old review gave this place 4 stars. Vietnam ruined me.

Kids like it, parents like it, and my mom likes it--which says a lot coming from an older Vietnamese person who knows her Vietnamese food! The staff is always efficient and nice, and after all these years, the food remains consistently good. The biggest downside is parking. The entire shopping center has become so busy with restaurants that finding a spot can be overwhelming, especially during peak hours. Also, keep in mind they do not take credit cards. Bring cash, or you can pay electronically through options such as Zelle/Venmo. Overall, this is one of those longtime neighborhood restaurants we keep coming back to because we know exactly what we're going to get: good Vietnamese food, plenty of choices, friendly service, and consistency.

In $64, we got: - fish entree serves 2 - 5/5 - it comes with thin vermicelli noodles, healthy herb leaves and lettuce and fish sauce base. It was so so good :) If u like rice paper with it, its $3 extra - shrimp roll appetizer - 5/5 - tender, perfectly crispy and freshly deep fried. Paired well with the hot sauce and sriracha - viet iced coffee with condensed milk - 3/5 - it was strong and less condensed milk than i liked. I will try avocado smoothie next time - strawberry smoothie without boba - 3-5 - too sweet and huge portion Loved the hot sauce/ spice rack they had on each table as it had so many options to enhance the flavor. Definitely coming back to try their pho and loved the fish entree. The fish entree is $10 cheaper on Wednesdays as advertised outside on the door.

The waitresses are very efficient here. Very no frills service Appetizers: Both the banh beo and banh it ram were so good. The fish sauce given was relatively light and swet. The pork skin on the banh beo was chef's kiss. So crunchy and paired well with the rice cakes. The banh it ram was amazing. I love the shrimp filling and the contrast with the crunchy rice dumpling under. Main: The bun bo hue was FLAVORFUL. It genuinely did not need additional sauce. My only critique was I wish it was hotter because all the vegetables cooled down my broth a bit. The meat and noodles were generous. I could barely finish this without help. Overall, hits the spot.

I ordered it to go, but they put the bánh canh noodles directly into the soup instead of packing the noodles and soup separately. By the time I got home, the noodles had absorbed most of the broth and became extremely soggy. As you can see in the photo, there was barely any soup left. For a to-go noodle soup order, I really don't understand why it was packed this way. I paid $14.95 for the Bánh Canh Chả Cá and basically couldn't enjoy it. It honestly felt like I wasted $14.95. The Bún Bò Huế was great, but the way the Bánh Canh Chả Cá was packaged completely ruined the dish. I hope the restaurant packs the noodles and broth separately for future to-go orders.

I usually order their Bun Bo Hue in a large size so I can enjoy some at the restaurant and still have leftovers to take home later. Service is always quick--you get seated right away, and someone usually takes your order within a minute or two. The food comes out fast, hot, and fresh every time. No matter what time of day I visit, there are always people eating here, which speaks for itself. The broth is incredibly flavorful while still being light and aromatic. Combined with the variety of toppings and fresh vegetables, it's hard not to dig in the moment it hits the table (as you can probably tell from the photo, lol). The restaurant has plenty of seating, making it a great place to bring family and friends. When you're finished eating, you simply walk up to the counter, tell them your table number, and pay. Just keep in mind that they only accept cash or debit cards. If you're looking for a comforting bowl of Bun Bo Hue, especially on a rough morning after a night out, this is definitely the place to go. I will always come back here.

Unfortunately, the service was not very welcoming--the staff came across as blunt, impatient, and at times rude--but I could have overlooked that if the food had fully lived up to the hype. The broth made a good first impression and clearly included many of the right spices, although it was also quite salty. As I got further into the bowl, however, the flavor started to feel flat and lacked the rich, slow-simmered depth I expect from a restaurant that specializes in this dish. It tasted more heavily seasoned than deeply developed, so experienced bún bò Huế fans may find it underwhelming. The meat was also not as tender as I would have liked, and the congealed blood--usually my favorite part--was overcooked and dry rather than smooth and tender. The visible holes suggested it may have been cooked too quickly at too high a temperature. Overall, the meal was decent and had some good flavors, but the broth, meat, and service did not meet my expectations. I can understand why it is popular, but I would probably try another bún bò Huế spot next time.

The bahn cuon here is really good -- the rice noodle is so fresh and soft and chewy. This was my favorite and the variety was so appreciated as well! It's also surprisingly filling and I would definitely get this next time I'm here. The fish sauce was also delicious as well. (this is in reference to the dish Banh Cuon Tay Ho Dac Biet) Bahn Beo were good sizes and nicely steamed. I wish there was a bit more sauce because I was running out at the end. Toppings are appropriately sized as well Personal take, I didn't really enjoy the fried pork rind topping as much and would have liked more shrimp, but once again, personal preference. I didn't quite enjoy the Hu Tieu, but my friend liked the soup! It's a little too plain for me. I do love the feeling and texture of eating thick, round rice noodles. The banh xeo that came on the side was hard to crunch through, I felt like it was probably sitting on the side for a while. Vibes were nice -- there's a call button to ask for service. Menu has a lot of items as well (e.g. pho, rice plates, etc), so there's something for everyone if you come with a big group! Our server was also really attentive and sweet -- he came by and asked if we wanted additional dishes/bowls since we were sharing food!

I have also frequently gone into their store to enjoy a nice plate of com tam or bun thit nuong which has always been great. I found it very rude and uncomfortable because I really don't like strangers touching me. The older lady did it to everyone in our table, and she didn't seem to realize she was making our entire group uncomfortable, and it affected our whole dining experience. So, would I come back? Absolutely not. One visit was more than enough. I'm not willing to deal with that kind of pushy service again.
