A great location for QFC right in the center of Seattle. The space here is a pretty fair size in QFC. It's clean and has extra security which is always a plus. Impressive. This was my first time at a QFC and I'm extremely happy with The Metropolitan (which is also closer to where I live) that I wouldn't have ventured "all the way" down to 5th and Mercer except for the fact that I was looking for something in particular. I'm SO glad I went though because as the other reviewers have said, its just amazing. Unique produce in the vast and organic-focused produce section (I found figs! I love figs!); excellent selection of cheeses; good selection of beer and wine...and I think that's all one really needs out of a grocery store. Prices are also cheaper than The Metropolitan (for a few of the things I looked at). Also, the seafood/meet selection at QFC isn't quite as extensive or alluring. read more

This is our weekly grocery store. Very convenient location that has a lot of variety. The produce and meats aren't as fresh as whole foods or pike place market but that's clearly reflected in the lower prices. You can get pretty much everything you need here and with the member card, it works out fairly reasonable. They also have a nice mini food court with loads of eating/take out options. My favorite by far there is the sushi. It's always made fresh with large portions and very reasonably priced. I'd definitely recommend this for regular and recurring grocery needs. read more

The old lower Queen Anne QFC was awful. I think I only went there about five times in two years, and then only when, for instance, it was 1:00 a.m., I had to get up at 7:00 to get all four wisdom teeth removed, and I needed to lay in a supply of applesauce and canned soup to slurp while the holes in my mouth healed. The new QFC has a great deal more than Campbell's soup to offer. It fills me with elation. I keep going in just because it's there (it's on my route home from work) and buying, oh, say, a pound of strawberries and an organic mango (yesterday) or a solitary red onion (the day before). I love the fact that the produce section, besides having nice fresh stuff (unlike the old QFC, which had no produce to speak of at all) is right at the front. I can walk in one door, grab whatever it is I forgot I needed for the supper I'm contemplating, swipe my ATM card through the card reader at the express checkout line, walk out the other door, and make my way home, having barely broken my stride. The back of the store looks pretty appealing, too, like it probably will be inspiring someday when I'm wandering around at my leisure wondering what new things I might try to eat. In the meantime, when I emerge dispirited from the growling, exhaust-choked hole where Mercer dips under 99, I am immensely cheered to find fresh fruit awaiting. read more

This is based solely on the meat counter and prepared salads. If you need assistance WHICH that is THE ONLY way to purchase such items the staff acts as though you are inconveniencing them. In fact, you have to actively seek assistance by standing in line at the Bistro. Once you ask for meat or salads they grunt at you and "stomp" over to the other counter. My educated guess is this area is understaffed and these people are just stressed to serve both needs. Management needs to support the staff here. read more

I was just in this QFC. And one of the isles there was a gentleman with a pocket knife that was open and he was waving it around and talking crazy to me. I am mediately left the aisle and went and told QFC employee about it. After shopping around for 10 more minutes I noticed that the same gentleman was still in the store. He had a knife in his hand but wasn't waving it around. And the staff at QFC still didn't do anything about it. Want to post here as well so people know how unprofessional this establishment is. This is most definitely the worst experience I've ever had here. My friend and I came in today around 11PM to grab some small treats and a soda. When we were leaving, a male worker who looked relatively young and was wearing oddly tight clothing and a beret (?) came at us, two young women, and asked us to "come back with us" with two also male security guards. The security guards then started quickly closing in on us with no explanation! We were afraid and had no idea what was happening and then realized they were likely accusing us of stealing. When we voluntarily gave our receipts that showed everything we had in hand, they continued to berate us and would not apologize or admit they were wrong. To top it all off, as we were leaving, the young male said "F*ck you!" as we exited through the main doors. Horrible workers with no self respect or professionalism at all. read more

This is an awful store. The employees begrudgingly waited on me. The guy in the deli even told me , with both hands in each pocket, " I get paid by the hour." Then he proceeded to put on gloves and touched everything in sight: the cart, the counter and everything else before he touched the tongs to dish up the slop he had on display. I just returned that slop to get my money back. The young woman behind the the customer service counter spoke to herself, then asked me can I help you. I asked to speak with the manager. When the manager came up, I asked her could we speak alone. Just a few feet away from the counter was my intent. She said " I'm not going outdoors. I knew then the who, what, where and why the employees in this store are awful. They have a prejudicial mindset. " It starts at the top." read more

Always find what I'm looking for here. The free parking is very convenient, especially if you're in a rush or just need a few quick items. Big perk of the store is Ross, the wine and beer steward. Very knowledgeable, especially when it comes to beer. If you have questions and see him around, don't be afraid to flag him down, he's likely got the answer to your question. read more

I would give absolutely ZERO stars if I could. The goofy, dread head manager "Richard Pryor" was extremely rude and very miserable towards me today,10/02. I came in with a voucher and was treated terribly when my total was $98. Just a couple dollars short of the $100 I was issued. I chose to leave the change and he rudely repeated "YoU hAVE tO GEt SoMeTHinG eLsE" when last time I spent a voucher here I was able to spend less than $100 and leave the change. Even if the transaction was done wrong on my previous visit he STILL could have been polite. I was told to "have fun with my voucher" while leaving the store lol Supposedly he's the store manager as well, poor store. Poor customers. Please fire this "manager" so he can deal with his attitude, rude language, and short man complex elsewhere. read more

I've been shopping at QFC for years. I like certain items that QFC carries over Safeway, and I like the deli and meat selection there better too. Because I've moved, I now shop at this location, and I've hated it. There are a few long time employees who are great, but they have a lot who are awful too. For the last month or two, every week that I go in, there is never a shopping cart. One time I asked a Checker about it and she said that I should complain to corporate about the carts because they are not allowed to complain about it. I have to use a hand held basket, which is never big enough or comfortable to get all that I need. Today was the last straw, and I felt I finally needed to write a review. I again had to use the hand held basket, and when I went to check out, there was only one lane open with The SUPER Slow Guy checking there, so I went to self-check-out. Trying to balance my full handheld basket on the small area by the scanner, the basket flips over and spills my items on the floor. The employee working at the self check out lanes acted like she didn't see it happen, and when I finished picking it up, she walked off. Every week I come home and swear I'm never going back there. But location and certain grocery items keep me coming back, although not happily. read more

I introduced myself to the cashier and she introduced herself as Debbie. She was very friendly and helpful. There was no one there to help bag my groceries so I asked if I could bag it myself and she said it was fine. Then, out of nowhere a female security stepped in and said I got it and started throwing my yogurt, protein drinks and vegetables in my bag without a care for the groceries I just purchased. I didn't want to to be rude to question her but I thought it was kind of strange for a security personnel that just stands around to intercede and take it upon herself to be a bagger. As I was leaving she was engrossed in a conversation with Debbie. I see it every day people shoplift at QFC. security especially the one at the Mercer location should be monitoring their movements instead of being rude to customers with their actions. read more

This particular location is in the same building as an Office Max and Genki Sushi so if you ever need to buy some office supplies, have dinner, and get milk for your cereal, this is THE place to shop. read more

I see they've covered the 'F' and 'C' part of their name, as they do carry food and they have walls and doors. The 'Q', I'm not so sure about. Some of their food fails to live up to Quality. I couldn't find any tortillas without preservatives and/or partially-hydrogenated oils in them. Me no likey. However, they are close to my work and the guy in the wine area is super nice and knowledgeable about vino, so that's good. He's bringing Quality back, yeeeeeeeeeeeah. read more

Wow. I just went to QFC to buy supplies for a company party with a business check. First, the cashier insinuated that it was a *fake* check. We had to go all the way home to get the check binder. Rather than apologize for this insult and complete waste of my time, the manager brooded over the ordeal like I was some kind of petty thief. She *held on* to my cart while I checked out, then asked for the receipt! I've never been treated so poorly when shopping. Let me let everyone in on a little secret. QFC charges a lot more than the Safeway about half a mile away. A LOT more. If you lived in the apartments above QFC, it would be cheaper for you to take a cab to Safeway and back than to purchase your groceries at QFC. But perhaps you like quality cheeses and meats? Well QFC isn't for you either. You'd be much better off going to Metropolitan Market, because their selection is of a higher quality for the same price. And at Metro, they have professionals that can discuss the gourmet offerings at length. I'll never spend another penny here again. If I wanted to be treated like a common criminal, I'd do something deserving of that. My only regret is the thousands of dollars I've already given them. (One more thing--while they were sooo worried about me, potential criminal mastermind, my friend noticed a group of emo kids come in, steal some booze, and leave. Ha. ha. ha.) read more

Well, this is an odd one. I can't describe how happy I am that a grocery store went into this neighborhood a couple of years ago. Before then, it irked me that I had to get in my car and DRIVE 10 blocks or so to go to what used to be the great lower Queen Anne trinity of stores within a few blocks of each other -- the metropolitan market (used to be Larry's before they went south -- I guess having an AMEX monopoly wasn't such a good idea), Safeway, and, yes, the old QFC (which since moved to it's present location nearer to me). So I'm grateful, in a way -- it alleviates my "green" guilt since now I can WALK to the store, and makes me feel more a part of this neighborhood community. But in exchange for green community-hood, I sold my soul to the devil, QFC. The store is nice enough -- you are greeted by Starbucks (of course) on one end, followed by the produce section, reminiscent of an open air market, or at least that's the idea, I suppose. The cheese section rocks for its amazing selection, as does the medium-sized, but excellent wine and beer section (they even have a section especially for belgians). But everything is so expensive, I rarely buy too much of these things here, tempting as they are. I used to date someone who worked for Kroger (which owns QFC and Fred Meyer), and I can tell you that everything they do -- from the sales to the layout, are cleverly designed to make you buy crap you don't really need and maximize profit. This may be true of every other grocery store, but I think QFC are masters at this. When you walk down the aisles, it FEELS like every other item is on sale. It SEEMS like you are getting decent deals. And I buy more than half my items on sale there (usually "saving" on average 20 to 30% off my bill, according to QFC receipts, at least). But when I check out, I feel like I got ripped off. I can easily spend $100 for perhaps a few days worth of food, and I still can't figure out how that happens. I suspect that the produce is very expensive compared to other stores -- it's hard to tell the prices for the items you get because the tags are so far away from the food, if they are there at all. And the sales in produce are not particularly good. So maybe that is where my costs go up so much. Or maybe it's that one, nice-looking jar of $8 olives I impulsively threw into the cart. Or the double-priced spices. Or maybe it's all the booze I buy. Either way, I feel like when i walk out with $100 worth of groceries at this QFC, they weigh half as much (minus the booze bottles) as I would get at either Safeway or Trader Joes. At least since I have that red advantage card, the Kroger devil sends me really great coupons in the mail for things it knows I've bought before (like a free pint of haagen daaz pint or dozen eggs or whatever). Kinda creepy, but it hooks me just the same, and I usually use at least some of them. But as I leave the store, scratching my head trying to figure out why my butt suddenly feels looser and sore, and I pop open my $5 Cook's covered by one of those special brown bags, and stumble to few blocks home with my $100 bag of groceries in the other hand. Sure, I FEEL "greener," I FEEL more community-oriented, but also I FEEL like I was just screwed big time. Still, I'm hypnotized into shopping here somehow. I both appreciate them, and RESENT them for taking my soul, thus the two stars. But as Oscar Wilde said, "We are each our own devil, and we make this world our hell." read more

***UPDATE*** It's a year later, and we've just moved off of Queen Anne. I'm gonna miss this store. In the year since I wrote this review, the selection has not changed. The cheese counter is still excellent. I've used the deli more and have experienced a couple of "meh" dishes, but that's just par for the course. So, just wanted to say that despite my dire predictions (see below), this QFC is still excellent. That is all. ___________________________________________________ When yet another hideous condo started to go up kitty corner from the former Tower Records (now Silver Platters) on Lower Queen Anne, I was predictably poopy about it. "More jumped-up spendy condos for irritatingly self-satisfied Junior Yupsters," I grumbled to anyone who would listen. Now, I'm not quite so peeved, and for an entirely selfish and jumped-up and spendy reason: there's a magnificent new QFC in the street level retail space! Not usually a fan of QFCs (too pricey for their drab selection), I am still suspicious that management will have to pull in their horns, tailor/limit selection to meet demand, elminate products, and that this QFC will end up like most of the others I've shopped at. In the meantime..... yay for this QFC! A huge produce section greets you as you enter. I was softened up immediately, because asparagus was on sale for $.88 a pound! The floral department sort of drapes it's fragrant wares at the feet of Produce, which blends into the olive bar, the ziggurat of rotisserie chickens, and then the enormous cold cases heaped with fabulous cheese! Selection is very, very strong - almost rivalling Whole Foods - and features lots of excellent English farmhouse and small producer cheeses. Behind the cheeses is a quite decent deli, with one of the best deals on fried chicken I've encountered: for $6.99, I got 8 pieces of hot, fresh, nicely crisp fried chicken that had hubby licking his fingers. Take that, Whole Foods! (Yes, I'm still bitter about my deli experience at the new Whole Foods. I need to go back and see if they've gotten their act together.) Also scored on my first visit: a half dozen REAL cherrystone clams, for $3.00! On reflection, I think that might've been a mistake. There's a rather vast wine department, a good beer selection, and several aisles of freezer cases holding a bewildering variety of meals to nuke. And, of course, HABA, a pharmacy, tofu and tofu-related products, fancy soft drinks, coffees, teas, beans, scrubby sponges, dish soap, olive oil, cereal, and all the other basics. I've been back for my every-other-day fresh things shopping since this QFC opened, and I'm still discovering things. Is it pricier than Safeway? Yes. But with yuor trusty QFC card, a few extra minutes to prowl for deals, and the iron will needed to navigate the cheese selection without opening a second line of credit just to pay for your Stilton, you can do rather well here. I like this store. I think you will too. But hurry in, because.... well.... you never know. read more

I don't like this place. The aisles are too small when you factor in grocery carts, especially where they keep the milk products and the juice case. Otherwise, I didn't see what is the big deal. Sure it's new, but it's just the same polished turd that is the entire QFC chain of stores. While the friendly customer service kids were smiling at me and trying to engage me in conversation, they weren't doing their jobs by... 1. Ringing up several grocery items twice, coincidentally some bigger ticket items and 2. Forgetting to put one of my bags in the cart, as I nearly walked out of the store without it. Idle chit-chat is one thing, but get your job duties completed before you ask me how about my day. I won't shop here regularly. I will continue to get things in boxes/cans at Safeway, and produce/meats/cheeses at Whole Paycheck or the Met Market. read more

The quick and dirty on QFC Queen Anne Love: -Open 24 hours -Park garage with direct access to QFC -Lots of Fresh product and reasonable Organic Prices -Deli with Fresh Sliced Meats & Cheeses -HUGE wine section -Starbucks and Top Pot donuts (who doesn't love Top Pot) Don't care for: -Bleach smell in Seafood area (went there today and smelled a heavy bleach smell. Staying at the 4 Points Sheraton around the corner and some people told me to go to the QVC. I didn't know what it was? I thought it was some kind of farmer's market or emporium. However, QVC is simply like a Von's here in southern California. This one is weird because it is downstairs and I felt awkward taking the elevator down. Once in the store, it was very nice and spread out. A Starbucks was in the corner and I noticed a cheese station. A great bakery and a large deli too. The deli featured a $6.00 special of 3 items you could select from their deli case. This QVC is a traveler's delight, as it is located near the Sheraton and the Hyatt House by the Seattle Space Needle. Note to visitors: I was happy to see NO SINGLE USE PLASTIC BAGS here! It's either buy a brown bag or bring your own reusable shopping bag. I hope that San Diego will follow the lead of enlightened Seattle in banning the use of plastic bags and encourage customers to bring their own. 5 YELP STARS for that! read more

I'm the first to admit I can be a bit of a dork. I mean who the heck visits places like Walmart, Target and Grocery stores when on vacation? Hopefully you do too so I'm in good company. It's just that you can find some cool things that you might not find at home so I get curious. This QFC was 24 hours and right near our hotel. Awesome floor layout and speed thru self checkouts that actually work. Unique veggies and fruits. Two stars - Two complaints. 1) You claim to be 24 hours, but that doesn't include Sunday nights when I desperately need to get a few things after a 6 hour flight delay and a 1 hour rental car experience (on my first official supposed to be day and turned to night) in Seattle. 2) You are super expensive. I, like many others am subjected to the lameness of qfc due to its uptown convenience. I have learned to walk those scant few blocks, if only others do too perhaps we can run qfc out of (this part of) town and something else can take up that massive retail space. QFC was very convenient during our stay at The Maxwell Hotel. Some grocery items were reasonably priced, however the prepared foods, spirits, and bakery items were pricey IMO. But since we had a fridge in our hotel room, being able to stock up on local brews, wine, and snacks was priceless! The beer aisle had a really great selection of microbrew beers, so the hubby was happy. Produce looked fresh, some organic items were cheap compared to other grocery stores. Staff were all friendly and they were nice enough to scan their store card (since we were visiting) in order for us to take advantage of their discount specials. The store was fairly organized and clean for the most part. During the day this location seemed busy with locals, but at night the clientele was a little sketchy. One evening we saw a torn up garbage sack filled with someone's belongings and several syringes with needles on the ground at the entrance of the store. Not very welcoming for patrons :( Again, this place was convenient during our vacation, but not sure if we'd frequent here unless we had to. So I normally shop here for all grocery needs and today for the first time in my life I was discriminated against by my sex. The gentleman's name was Caden. Nice young guy...only to women. He bagged the groceries for lady in front of me and the lady behind me. I bought a cart full of groceries 111$ so nothing crazy nothing "express". And he watched as the handles of one bag broke as I lifted it....did nothing not even a query. QFC is the place to get your non Whole Foods/non Trader Joe's/non Costco items, if you know what I mean. You will find a huge variety here, including produce, frozen foods, flowers, and bathroom essentials. I was really impressed by the beer and wine selection, decent prices too. Definitely sign up for the loyalty card-you'll save money by keeping that little piece of plastic on your key chain. read more
