Like the Double Stack - my go to. I read thru the menu every time I visit but I just keep going back to the burger. They use two thin patties to make one delicious burger. Add the bacon if you want to level up... worth it. And the fries. Oooh they're good. The sweet potato fries w/ their sprinkle of salt are top notch. But the skinny fries are also really good. Highly suggest going w/ a friend and ordering a cup of each to split. It's worth going back again and again. The staff each and every time I've visited have been kind and accommodating. And sometimes that's exactly what you need to round out a really good meal. Bonus points for whoever is in charge of the playlist. Every single time I've been the music has been on point. I come here a lot so I was surprised I haven't reviewed them before. I am never disappointed with the service or food. Its a a warm, nostalgic restaurant with timeless appeal. I highly recommend the steak on the dinner menu, the wellfleet oysters, the Caesar salad, shrimp tacos, and the cheeseburger egg rolls. This restaurant does not disappoint. Omg I'm so biased. I used to love coming here about 10+ years ago so when a friend and I were up for some tasty food and driving by I suggested we dine! Some of the items on the menu were unavailable that day. For appetizers we had the cheeseburger rolls which we LOVE the mustard that comes with it. Those came out quickly. For entrees we had the crispy fried chicken. Drier on the inside than we anticipated and took over 45 minutes to come to the table. I'd give the food a 3/5 For drinks we had espresso martinis and those were tasty. 4.5/5 For dessert we had the strawberry cheesecake and the chocolate lava cake both of which were delicious! 5/5 for dessert The service was good. After we explained the delay to the server and manager they were very kind and attentive thereafter! 3.5/5 The ambiance was dark and fun. Def good for date night, girl nights, and families with kids who don't mind sitting down. Putnam's Pub is located in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn. We visited during Myrtle Restaurant Week 2024, which was held from 2/16 - 2/25. Myrtle Restaurant Week 2024 Participating Restaurants had specials that included multi-course prix-fix meal packages that were either $20, $30, or $40. Although we had to wait for about an hour for our table, they texted me that our table was ready. After going to Casa No No for pre-dinner cocktails , we returned to Putnams Pub and was seated. Putnams Pub gave us delicious food and a great dining experience. Putnams Pub is walking distance from the G, A & C trains. It is close to other eateries and shops along Myrtle Ave. Putnams Pub Myrtle Restaurant Week dinner special was 3 courses for $40 - an appetizer, entree & dessert. We both ordered the following: 1.) Appetizers - Roasted Beets of Fennel Salads (homemade ricotta, blood orange & pistachio vinaigrette). 2.) Entrees- Steak Frites (marinated hangar steak) w/ chinchilla sauce, mixed greens & mashed potatoes. We also shared an order of Cauliflower Fritters. 3.) Dessert - Raspberry Cheesecake (we were so gratefully stuffed and satisfied that we took our desserts to-go) All of the courses were delicious and filling, and were prepared and plated well. We enjoyed the Putnams Pub ambiance as they have simple decor, lighting, mixed style tables & seating arrangements, and also have booth style seating. There are cool stool seats along the bar area where one can also have full dining service. Great music was playing in the background. I stopped into the Putnam for after work drinks with my friends. The bar staff made us feel right at home and accommodated our 8 person group at the bar even though we didn't have a reservation. Came because Putnam has a DAILY happy hour from 4-7pm. Great selection of food and drinks including a variety of $5 beers, $6 cocktails, $7 wine, $5 appetizers (tacos, chips, deviled eggs, olives, and $1.50 oysters (minimum 6). We got draft beers and wine and were happy with the drinks. On Thursdays, they have AYCE oysters for $25 which I'll try next time! We were longtime customers who will never return due to the drunken owner inserting himself at our table and insisting we entertain his incoherent political nonsense. He was truly belligerent. Our entire table of 7 guests was shocked by his behavior and we left immediately after he started slurring. The bartenders apologized for his behavior but could not stop him. It was a shocking display that left us rattled and there is nothing they can do to convince us to return. It's too bad as this was an otherwise nice local spot. He resumed his belligerent behavior and wouldn't leave us alone. I asked the bartender for help but because it was the owner there was nothing they could do. We were forced to leave. I live 1 block away and have stopped by twice for take out. The first time, I ordered the burger, which is made with dry aged short rib, served with lettuce, tomato, onion ring, house pickles, along with hand cut fries. I also added cheese and bacon, which was $2 extra each. I was tempted to ask for fried egg as well, but restrained myself. The burger was wonderful! A huge thick patty, nicely juicy, and full of tasty seasoning, making it very flavorful. I liked how the fried onion gave the burger a satisfying and yummy crunch. The melted cheese added a mouthwatering touch, and all the other ingredients came together well. The fries were also good, and thinly sliced, as well as very crunchy. The second time, I went for the Steak Au Poivre. The type of steak was black angus NY strip. It came with peppercorn sauce in a small container, a side of hand cut fries and seasonal greens. I requested for the meat to be medium, which is a HUGE thing from a girl who usually orders steaks well done. I think it was still a little too pink for me, so I'm going to stick with medium well. Still, the steak was delicious... So tender, succulent, and even better with the peppercorn sauce, which was extremely peppery and full of flavor from the robust seasoning and herbs. I didn't care for the greens though. It was just spinach and quite bland. I wasn't a fan of the weird lemon dressing either. Service from what I could tell was pretty good. 11/28/2019: I attend college nearby, and have also been to a Yelp Elite Event that was hosted here in 2018. I've also visited here of my own accord with friends many times.They are a little bit on the pricier side but the quality of food each time I order has always been really good. Delicious tasting and fresh. Customer service is always really nice and accommodating to wherever I'd like to sit. Food is always delivered hot and promptly. Server always checks in an appropriate amount of time and overall I've yet to have a negative experience here. Nothing but good times, so I do recommend stopping by if you ever have the chance! Their interior is also very cozy feeling and they've got a speakeasy downstairs!!! 11/25/2020-- DURING COVID TIMES: Mac and cheese, chips, and a soda will run you $25 before tip. So college students beware. This place has gotten even more expensive thanks to covid. Like most restaurants, they've upped their prices but this place has always been on the $$$ side for the neighborhood. Just keep that in mind so your jaw doesn't drop when you see the prices. In fairness, I'm rather small as is my stomach space, so their portion sizes are just right for someone of my 5"3 stature. For those with more ravenous appetites just an FYI, they've cut down their menu significantly for lunch. Not sure about breakfast or dinner but I imagine it might be similar. During my most recent visit in late October it was rainy so I was grateful that limited capacity indoor dining returned. There was only one guy working, doubled up as the bartender. Told me to sit where I want and to order using the Toast app for contact-less ordering. You can scan the QR code that is taped to every table or just download it from your designated app store and search up the restaurant. I was having trouble paying for my order through the app so the waiter just took my order. I didn't get his name but he was suuuper nice. Very welcoming. This place has always had great and friendly customer service so that hasn't changed. Overall, I do miss the rest of their menu but their food quality is still high up on the bar which is great. Proceeded to wait another 10-15 min and decided to leave. Was meeting a friend on Myrtle Ave, I happened to get the area earlier than I expected so I searched for a decent happy hour spot and came across Putnam's. Saw that they offered happy hour at the bar from 2pm to 5pm, I arrive and find out that happy hour is actually from 3pm to 7pm, so this was a win for me. More time to pig out! Pretty solid options for happy hour. Discounts on beers, wines, and wells as well as a food snacks. For food, I went with the a half dozen oysters, priced at $1.50 each. They were very tasty, juicy blue point oysters. I should have gotten another dozen and a half that's how good they were. The chicken liver mousse was incredible, nice and creamy, did not feel like it was too heavy, on a nice slice of toasted country bread. That was my favorite thing I ordered. Same for the homemade whipped ricotta. The perfect combo of slightly sweet and not too salty, also on nice crispy toasted slice of bread. Only reason why I am giving them 4 stars and not 5 was because the service was a little slow. The place was not busy at all, it was the middle of the day, my food was probably sitting out in the kitchen for a bit, until the bartender/waitress finished their 20 minute conversation on the massacres in Sri Lanka from the late1980s. read more
