Twix puffy cakes and one of their cake type things out of the case
    Michelle G.

Someone I knew had been hearing about this dessert place and wanted to try it, so we went to check it out. Puffy Cakes is a cute cafe vibe counterserve place where you can order their puffy cakes (hard to describe, it's a fluffy cake that feels almost similar to a Japanese souffle pancake but not quite) that comes in various flavors as well as some other desserts they have. We opted to share a puffy cake with a Twix type flavor and this pink mousse looking case. I enjoyed the puffy cake a lot - I love that type of batter, but the Twix was stale and I'd probably recommend going with the original. Sometimes, simple is best. I cannot recall the exact flavor of the bright pink item we ate but we were surprised by how light the texture was and really liked it - I recommend trying it when you're there. Overall, a nice dessert spot to hang out and chat with a friend and worth trying if you want to try a new dessert.

Went in to work on a Friday afternoon. It was very loud, making it hard to concentrate. There were at least three noise sources at any given time. There is plenty of room and tables to work at and free wifi, but I got the impression that the staff didn't want us sticking around. As for the cake, it was great. I got the biscoff cake and it was drenched in cookie butter. The cakes were bigger than I expected - they could definitely be split between two people. The matcha was standard. I would recommend doing takeout or ordering for delivery.

We were in the neighborhood for lunch and stopped in on a whim. We picked out some macarons to try later that evening. They were typical pricing, the people at the counter were friendly, and the flavors and textures of the macarons were good. We didn't try their puffy cakes that they're more known for/based off of.

We tried the matcha and Ube cheesecakes. No toppings. Visually, texturally and taste-wise, this is a very poorly attempted imitation at Japanese souffle cheesecakes. Barely, if any, flavor of neither Ube nor matcha in the cakes. The texture was inconsistent between the two cakes. Ube was strangely dense, the other was softer, a little closer to the real thing. At least they weren't dry. The cakes are wrinkly, saggy, and make me sad. No issues with service. Cashier was very nice. I wouldn't return to try more of the menu.

I was seriously craving a Japanese cheesecake -- one of those soft, jiggly, puffy ones -- and remembered ordering one from Chinatown a while back. So, on a random Saturday night scroll through Uber Eats, I stumbled across Puffy Cakes. Their cakes looked incredible, and I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful presentation. I couldn't decide on just one, so I went ahead and ordered two: the Twix and the Biscoff. The cakes were good, but honestly, not quite what I had pictured in my head. I was expecting that super airy, fluffy texture, but these were actually a bit denser and softer -- not bad, just different. Flavor-wise, they leaned a little too sweet for my taste, especially for something I was hoping would feel light. Overall, it was a fun treat to try once, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to order again. Definitely worth a shot if you're curious, especially for the look of it -- just don't expect a traditional-style Japanese cheesecake

Full disclosure, my friends just opened this spot so I'm going to be a bit biased. The cakes and the tea here are delicious. The cakes are said to be like a cheesecake but there isn't so much of a cheese flavor to them. They're super soft and moist, and would pair very well with a coffee or tea for morning breakfast. I had this one cold but I would try them warm and see how I like that. I also had the little blueberry tart thing and it was delicious. I had one of the premium teas (I can't remember which) and that was also very good. The ambiance is cute. It's a chill little spot you can get a cake and a tea on a weekend morning before starting the rest of your day. Or maybe even an afternoon tea break. The staff there are also very friendly so it's a great spot to go to to get a snack.

Delicious cookies, especially the chocolate chip cookie, though the Biscotti cookie was good too. Cute and quaint atmosphere with unique art, and cool lighting. Some Japanese style, while others looked like teardrops. Sal shared his story with how he came up with the idea for the fusion of French and Japanese bakery elements along with quality coffee. Great service! Even my dog approves!! Check it out!

The cakes really do be puffy here! We actually didn't get the cheesecakes but instead opted for the Ube and matcha bread pudding and raspberry French lemon tart. The bread pudding was really tasty and reminded me of an elevated pound cake. The lemon tart, as the name suggests. The crust is really tasty. The worker at the front was really friendly. There are plenty of tables to sit at and street parking was easy to find. The decor inside is pretty cutesy. It's a nice spot to grab dessert.

My friend and I went to Puffy Cakes to try a new place to work from. They do have free wifi and plenty of room to work but it was very loud and weird vibes. I asked the woman at the counter which puffy cake she recommends and it was the right choice! I got the chocolate bomb puffy cake which was delicious! I would recommend getting the food but taking it to go.

The best place to enjoy a dessert!! I loved the Japanese cake, really good presentation!! A little bit expensive but absolutely worth it.

Ordered the PB one and a coconut custard tart. Both were delicious! Not super sweet which I like and just the right consistency. Def be back, welcome to the hood!

Black Sesame Matcha Latte - while the black sesame graininess settled at the bottom expectedly, the matcha was clearly whisked well. There were no clumps of bitterness to be found. Despite sugar adjustments, this was still very sweet so I'd classify the spot as more desserty rather than strong matcha or a cafe. Though I'm happy to be proven wrong with their regular matcha in the future.

I wish I was able to travel with one of their cheesecakes but they require refrigeration. Anyhow the cheesecake itself was delicious super light, fluffy, and honestly felt like biting into a cloud. I had the salted egg but they had several flavor options that I would've loved to try if slices were available. The texture is what really stands out, and the flavor was unique and interesting in a good way. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it taste like, but it was sweet, but not too sweet They only sale but I consider a personal size but it's definitely enough to share with two people, maybe even three depending on how much of a sweet tooth you have. My only downside like others is the price. Paying around $19-$20 for a small cheesecake felt a bit steep, especially since they don't offer slices. I really wish they had smaller portions available so you could try different flavors without committing to a full cake prize. They package it very well and they also serve you a cute little fork set and a knife for cutting which I think is contributes to the price. The shop itself is very cute with chic décor and a lot of Asian-inspired artwork, which adds to the overall vibe. Customer service was friendly. When I visit Chicago again I'd definitely go back the texture and taste alone make it worth it but I do hope they consider offering smaller portions in the future.
