AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I had my items at this storage unit for two years. ALL of my belongings. I paid for the Public Storage/Orange Door insurance to make sure I was covered. My storage unit was overrun by mice who came from a nearby unit, bringing all sorts of weird food debris with them, along with the resulting excrement and urine, and ruined EVERYTHING IN MY UNIT. My furniture, my kitchen items, my clothing... unless it was in an enclosed PLASTIC tote with a lid, it was ruined. Many THOUSANDS of dollars worth of stuff. THE INSURANCE WAS USELESS. For VERMIN issues it pays out only $250. TOTAL!!!! Photo of my custom-made $3300 couch, covered in mouse pee/crap, that went to the dump. The manager of the location was also exceptionally rude, and unhelpful. She was a joke. (The other employee was very nice but I barely dealt with him.) read more

Go up on price in crazy amounts my storage went form $62 to $115 in 7 months. Bad customer service, sent a email one day because the app or the gates access code wouldn't allow me in my unit, 2 months later still no response. Staff commonly leave to go to the store and your there with no way to talk to anyone. I vacated my unit, a item had broke in the unit and I trashed it, a lawnmower and I was called and informed I can't leave it there the trash is for when they throw trash away. This is a dumpster they have. Beyond crazy to me. Stay away from this place. read more

Like everyone else says, the staff is very nice. Unfortunately, that isn't enough to counter the fact that there is a serious rodent issue. I've seen rodent droppings in my storage unit and I was there when someone else was throwing their belongings away due to the same issue. No one seems to want to do anything about it. Even the insurance that I purchased through the storage company will only cover $200 of damage. So now I have to find a new unit, get rid of things that have been impacted by the rodents and pay to move to another location, all out of my own pocket. To say this is beyond frustrating (and expensive) is an understatement. I would not currently recommend this location. read more

This location is pretty convenient since it's on a bus route. Laynetta was extremely helpful and accommodating! Her & her associate set up the rental/completed paperwork very quickly even though it was very close to closing time & a Friday night. They were fast, efficient, & friendly! The only reason I gave 4/5 stars is because the storage is expensive. The rate/ads say $1 for your first month but after taxes, fees, and insurance you end up paying a high portion of what you will pay monthly. This fees will also add up to paying an additional 30% more monthly than the original price you were prepared for so budget wisely! read more

Again, customer service is not their strong suit. I went on a Saturday and found all of the carts were locked in the office. They were supposed to be open, no one was there and there was no note. No one answered the phone when I called. The office was locked. I called to register a complaint and instead of apologizing for my inconvenience, I was yelled at and basically told it was my fault. The aggravation is getting a bit much, but unfortunately, I still have things in storage from my father's estate. There are also people hanging about smoking marijuana in the units, elevators, and hallways. I was told by the onsite person that she knows who that is and she does not cause any problems. Huge facility, clean (other than the occasional mice dropping). They don't have good evening or weekend hours for access. They went up on my fee by over $40 after 4 months. A lot of the units are empty so there isn't much competition for space so I'm not sure why they went up. I was about to get a 2nd unit but not after the increase after such a short time. read more

purchasing a unit was so easy online but the people that was on the inside are soooooo RUDE. Was In they're phones acted like they weren't trying to help at first. Then when help was received the demeanor was off. She came off as if what was being asked of her was just a lot of work. continuously huffing and puffing when asked a question. the project manager just sat there on her phone no help. Just there. I understand working in customer service is a lot but it's a choice. Horrible experience trying to lease a storage unit from PS. After booking a 5x10 unit through the call center with $1 first month promotion, I was told the local office would be calling me to confirm the reservation. They called right away, and let me know I would have to pay some additional fees, but didn't go into detail about what they would be. I said ok, and verified that the unit I booked was still under promotion. After calling me a couple of more times to confirm I would be showing up for my reservation (not sure why they needed to call me repeatedly), I arrived on a Saturday morning to begin moving in. When my wife and I walked into the office, we weren't greeted and were barely acknowledged, despite being the only ones in there. Once the gentleman started looking into my reservation, he made a concerned face and looked over to his colleague. He then tells me that the unit I reserved was not available, despite it being reserved and confirmed multiple times over. He then says he has a similar unit available that would still be the same price. After showing us the unit and hitting us with the "obligatory" insurance fees, he then says my total would be $180. I asked him how that was possible when my booking said the amount due to move in would be $25 plus fees. He responded that the unit he switched me to was not eligible for the promotion. What!?! I explained that I had reserved a unit using the promotion and it wasn't my fault they had screwed up my booking. The guy just apologized, shrugged his shoulders, and said it wasn't them it was corporate. Nice. I don't think I've ever felt as scammed as when I tried to book a storage unit with PS. The staff were NOT up front with what the fees would be, tried to sell us useless plastic wrapping to prevent our furniture from getting damaged (despite the fact that they're selling a safe, climate-controlled building), and did not tell me the unit wouldn't be under the promotional rate until I asked after being hit with the bill. This place is a joke! I have a unit reserved, specific size. Had a confirmation email. Went in with the movers and I get there and they say they don't have my unit. That after I reserved it, they rented it to someone else. They cost me so much extra money for their illegal wrong doings. They said they couldn't offer me the same promotion for the next size up even though they completely messed up on their end and left me there with the movers with my reserved unit given away. Stay away from this place! Then they put me much further away and didn't tell me that the place they put me wasn't a climate control unit. I have had a wonderful experience with Public Storage so far. Their call center operators were extremely helpful in determining which size unit I should reserve and helping me find the right location. The Bladensburg location called me promptly to confirm my reservation and recommended I see the unit first to make sure it met my needs. They held my unit until I was able to see it and were very courteous and detailed about the process when I arrived. I am giving 4 stars for now and will probably update my rating to 5 after I've moved all of my things into my unit. read more

This is the first time I have ever had to use a storage facility so I knew I wanted one that had a great rep (hey I have some semi important items). When we entered we where immediately greeted by Josh. I had reserved a unit online only to discover that at best it would only store one chair. Josh showed us two larger units and we made our selection did the paper work got our keys answered all of our questionand everything went off without a hitch. The best thing about this place is Trixie, who probably has the best customer service skills in all the district!! The morning after I signed up for my unit, she called to make sure I had all the info I needed and from the time I walked in the door until the time I left, she treated me like a long lost friend. She is fabulous. The facilities are very clean and well-kept. The 4 stars (rather than 5) because I asked for a 5 x 8 unit (the last one they had available), but it had a wall that was at a slant, making it a trapezoid and not a rectangle. So the really square footage was not equal to a 5 x 8 unit. That said, I would still use this facility again in the future--I would just be more clear that I want a rectangle. read more

Please be careful before you rent a seemingly affordable unit here: The rate increases are random and shockingly large. If you don't happen to have the money at hand when they suddenly decide to charge you as a periodic increase--with no rhyme or reason as to when or why such increases happen-- you'll end up losing your stuff. I am the adult child of a hoarder, and have inherited some of the tendencies he has. Consequently, when I moved out of state, there were items that "I might need it someday", "It means so much to me, I just can't throw it away", or "I might be able to sell it one day". All these items went to Public Storage at 1618 Bladensburg Road NE, Washington, DC. At the time, Monica was the manager, and I found it great. The place was always clean (that I saw), there was always a dolly either free or about to be free if I wanted to wait my turn, adequate lighting, and a fairly clean bathroom for customers (meaning no trash all over the floor, no feces or vomit or even the smell!), and no cranky employees wanting to take their bad moods out on customers. Skip to 3 (approximately) years later; Myana is the manager now, as Monica is at another property. (Big ups to her and good luck!) I have finally closed out my account with Public Storage, and time to update my review. I think I expected there to be substantial changes, but there were none and in this case, it's kind of a GOOD thing!!! Public Storage (this one) should rate 5 stars in my book, I still have a problem with that small parking lot!! It's still clean, there's still adequate lighting, and the bathroom still doesn't have stuff on the floor and/or walls, and doesn't have that perpetual stink some public bathrooms have. (Someone goes in there and sprays I'd bet!) I was there early, so Myana was the only employee I saw, but she was, like Monica, a phenomenal person/manager. Public Storage must either have a great training program, or someone has a good nose for who to hire! Any question I had Myana answered, and she did it professionally. She cared about me, not only as a customer but as a person, showing concern for how I lifted boxes and how high they were stacked on the dolly. She had tips on how I could get rid of unwanted but usable items. Myana made a hot, sticky, tedious job/day much easier and, as much as moving can be, much more enjoyable. I recommend 1618 Bladensburg Road NE Washington, DC to anyone who needs short-term storage. I kept it for almost 3 years, but I realize now that was 2 1/2 years too long to keep a storage unit. If you must keep it stored, this Public Storage is a great place to do so; it even stores FURS safely!! DON'T MOVE IN WITHOUT A CONTRACT! The unit is good. BUT 1. it has no power and the only light comes from the 'hall.' Our previous storage unit had an overhead socket: we provided the bulb and could have light. 2. there's all sorts of structure above it so we have a bare 8' in height WORST OF ALL they won't give us a contract. So, for the long term, which we are, we have absolutely no price stability. When they want to raise the rent; they do. And they have. A lot. Somehow we now seem to be paying more than DOUBLE what they advertise as a rate on the internet!!! read more

Public storage facility located at 18 Hughes, Irvine, CA, property number 20906. The store Manager Ghizala was professional in dealing, showing the options, with prices and knowledgeable about rules and regulations of the facilities. I rented the largest unit 10x30 and the day the movers were moving the stuff at that time we felt that storage unit will not be large enough to store our households. She advised that it will fit if it is three bedroom's household. Anyhow for safe side I rented another unit, it was late closing time but she was kind enough to stay little longer and found us the unit. However, finally we did not needed extra storage unit. So I requested her to get the refund for the additional unit. She said that I can not return the money but write to the upper management. She tried her best and finally after few days upper management approved my request and I received the refund for storage unit which was 10x10. I do have storage unit at this facility and she also advised for auto payment so I do not have to worry about payment at every month. Which helped. Ms. Gahizala was very professional, knowledgeable, care for customer and examine customer's need. read more

I've just rented a unit, and so far no issues, it's an indoor facility and seems secure. It's right across the street from the Police station, soooo it should be secure. The two young ladies at the front desk were very nice and helpful (Arian and Carla?). Be advised you will have to purchase their insurance plan, and there are a limited number of handcarts (3) so I'd move during non peak times if possible. (I have no clue what the peak times are) read more

Completely dishonest and misleading- the kind of company that leaves you sputtering to complain the DC attorney general. Like several other reviewers, I made a reservation with Public Storage for a particular type of unit with their advertised $1 for the first month promotion. I received an email confirmation that included my move in date, confirming the unit, location and price. When I showed up with my moving truck they would not honor the price and said that the reservation I had made 3 weeks prior was not valid because reservations are somehow only valid for 7 days. This, according to them, is in the "fine print" on their website (yet I made my reservation by phone) and totally inconsistent with the fact that they made a reservation for me for that date. The manager who said her name was Felicia was beyond rude and combative. It's a moving day equivalent of highway robbery- I was paying movers by the hour, was there with my truck and thus I basically no other option the day of my move but to rent a higher priced unit. Do not trust your reservation with this place- better yet use a better company. read more

The PS located on Bladensburg is the worst storage unit you can ever enter agreement with. The two individuals that works there are horrible. Very rude, unprofessional, and unethical. Monica is a godsend. Moving is totally stressful and placing your worldly possessions in a small storage space isn't the most comfortable feeling. She was thorough while explaining everything and answered all of my questions. The facility itself is clean and feels safe. (The boxes and moving supplies are overpriced, though. I am writing this review on behalf of the DC Government's Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE) and our experience with Public Storage at 1618 Bladensburg Road, Washington, DC 20002-1804. DOEE was in need of storage and since there are not any local, small women or minority owned business who offer storage facilities, we were given the OK to use Public Storage. We worked with the district manager Fatina Abdeen to set up a purchase order for our storage needs. After setting up the purchase order, we then had to work with the manager of the facility (Monica) to sign and finish all the necessary documentation so that we could tour the facility and get the keys. Customer Service 4/5 -- Fatina and Monica were both very professional, knowledgeable and diligent in regards to helping us get everything done so that we could start using the facility. Facility (5/5) -- The facility is new and is very clean and well maintained. You can tell that Monica takes pride in the upkeep of the facility and as a government customer, it feels good to know that our files and records will be in good hands at this location. Overall, I would rate our experience 4/5. I will change it to 5 out of 5 after we have started to move things in and if everything has gone as smoothly as it has thus far. read more
